3Gs purchased from AT&T two weeks ago

This past week, every day, sometimes twice mind you, I get No Service or Searching usually when I’m using an app called News Hour. I’ve tried switching Airplane mode in and out, no luck, when I go to General/Reset Network Settings, the phone switches off and then I get the No Service/Connect to iTunes, Emergency calls only mode.
I went to the Apple Store and they did a hard reset and I set it up as a new phone in iTunes.
Same thing happened this morning. I went to AT&T on Apple’s recommendation that it may be a failing SIM card. Had the card replaced and phone was operational again. Reading news in News Hour again and the phone did the same thing. Now I’ll probably have to go out to the Apple store again and ask for a replacement phone. Could an application do this? (I suppose I could remove it and see what happens but this never happened on my 3G.

Update: Impressive customer service through Apple, online system is pretty slick, entered my phone number and the phone rings in about 3 seconds, in touch with a tech about 20 seconds after that! Anyway, uninstalled the suspected app and phone still lost signal and went into emergency dial mode. The Apple rep got AT&T on the phone and conferenced me in. AT&T reset my account and are planning to follow up on Friday. The phone did the same thing this morning. I did the "have Apple call me" bit again and they agreed it was probably the phone and set up a reservation at the Apple Store for me who promptly replaced the phone. No issues yet!

  • My "What's happening today?" status keeps changing to something I set it to two weeks ago.

    At work we use Microsoft Lync 2013.  I have used the "What's happening today" status line in the Lync client so people can keep updated on things from me when I am away from desk.  Two weeks ago I was busy moving IT equipment into another
    building, so I had in my status bar a little blurb about equipment moves.
    Now off an on for the last two weeks, my "What's happening today" keeps reverting back to that blurb about equipment moves.  I'll change it by either blanking it out, putting in a different status like "Spring is here finally!" and
    guess what?  In due time it reverts back to the old status from 2 weeks ago.  
    I rebooted my PC and still it seems to be an issue.  I am not sure if other people see this status when it reverts back or not, but next time I will log in with a test account from my laptop and see how I appear in the contact list.

    If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

    If you apps are still in iTunes, you should be able to sync them back to your computer.  Otherwise, if you have iOS 5 (5.01) on your phone you could redownload them by launching Apps, press the Purchased button at the bottom, press Purchased at the top, then Not On This Phone.  This will list your apps and allow you to redownload them.  If you've purchased apps using multiple Apple IDs, you will have to sign in to each of these IDs to be able to download all your apps (by going to Settings>Store>tap on the Apple ID, sign out, sign back in using another ID).

    Ok Fellas, let me give you a clue:  Games, particularly those that make heavy use of graphics and sound are notoriously power hungry.  In fact, when I was in the Navy many years ago, the folks working on the NTDS (Navy Tactical Data System)  computers used a version of Space Invaders to load test the AN/UYK-43 computers.
    I have also noticed that all of my laptops (I have a brand new Toshiba dual core, an older Toshiba single core, plus 2 Dell dual core machines) have significantly shorter battery life when I play Company of Heroes than when I am just reading e-mail or surfing the 'Net.  I have also noticed the same behavior when I play games on my 4th gen Touch and my iPhone 4.
    The fact is, iOS 5 did make some major improvements as well as adding some nice functionality like iMessage, wireless synch, and such, but the down side is that depending on how you use the device battery life can be shorter that what you may have experienced with pervious versions of iOS.  Its just the nature of the beast...

    I have a friend / customer who bought Elements 8 two weeks ago from the Apple Store.  I was wondering if he would be entitled to a free upgrade to version 9 seeing as it was such a resent purchace?
    I searched the store and all i can find is the upgrade option - £60 odd.  Doesn't seem fair.
    I sat through the install with him a couple of weeks back and we did register the product - he's new to computers so that's why i'm asking.

    Purchased PSE 8 from Amazon UK on 26 September, delivered on 28 September.
    Installed 1 October.
    Updated to PSE 9 no problem except I missed the confirmation emails from Adobe.
    Spoke to Adobe help desk who arranged delivery of PSE 9.
    Adobe help desk was most helpful, BIG SMILES.
    PSE 9 now installed. Learning curve, have purchased wacom tablet CTH 460 EN.
    Up date priocess involved but eased by helpful helpdesk.
    MAC OSX 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard), on MacBook 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mem 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.

    I hate to say this, but unless you are paying the 25 bucks you cannot back up your library to the cloud.
    All you can do is back up the items you "purchased" from Apple.

    If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

    The other day i deleted my email accounts off of my ipod and only reloaded a few of them. today i looked at my notes to look at a project i had typed on my notes because i didnt have paper and pen around to write it and i didnt want to froget. I reloaded the rest of my emails in hope that everything would reappear but sadly only some of them from 2010 loaded. Recently i had update some of the files and they were like they were when i first created them there were alos ones that i had deleted long ago. There are other notes i had made that were really important to me to andi wouldn't be able to remember every single one. Help Please!

  • Since installing Snow Leopard and Lion two weeks ago, my iTunes program opens seemingly at will.  It usually starts playing music, too.  What is causing this?

    Since installing Snow Leopard and then Lion on my Intel-based iMac two weeks ago, my iTunes program seems to open at will whenever the computer is on.   It often begins playing music, as well.  What is causing this and how do I make it stop?

    There are ways to minimize, mitigate, and help avoid a lot of problems.
    Bootable backups.
    Zeroing a drive twice before using, and format it with SL DVD Apple Disk Utility for sure.
    Even a clean install should import old apps without having to reauthorize.
    If you must do an upgrade, do it from the SL DVD, after repairing the drive and be sure to use the SL version of Alsoft Disk Warrior (4.2).
    Wait six months before jumping on a new OS.
    10% is still too many. Yes, it is more sensitive to RAM and hard drive errors, doesn't like some controllers; most ext hdd cases; and enough software to make for test-only status. And it only IDs some known incompatible applications, drivers, extensions, etc and does not remove even those always in best manner.
    Plus, there are problems with the new Rosetta and the cache files it now uses. So some apps and plug-ins will cause more trouble. Not all are ready. Good reason to hold off for the months it takes.
    Other devices act different as far as on/off behavior.
    (Migrating from G5s to Mac Pro can cause all kinds of problems, weird behavior, sluggish system, and why anyone that went down that road was strongly recommended to NOT use Migration Assistant for any of their applications, and to ONLY do clean/fresh installs of any apps. If you skipped that day, didn't read the Guide to M.A., or didn't want to do fresh installs then, your system could have been on borrowed time. If you did do clean install of applications, great.
    Installing SL can result in a corrupt directory - I think and it "seems" to be happening, but no real proof, just gut feeling and instinct (underlying file system problem? weak sectors that pre-existed waiting to happen?).
    Remember all the "there just aren't a lot of 64-bit drivers" for Vista and XP? it's come home to roost.
    ... my guess is not enough incense and offerings. To hop into TimeMachine and SuperDuper backup images and pull the 1TB for another day (week, month, year).

    Umm,, no offence... but what is ridiculous...  is you didn't troubleshoot the original problem but instead you assumed it was a LP9 problem so you updated to LPX which is still in its early days and is likely to be less stable than LP9... rather than more so!
    So.. Here's the thing.... 
    LP9 was working fine and then stopped working normally according to you. Therefore what changed at the time LP9 stopped working normally?
    Here are just a few ideas to think about.. for around the time this started..
    Did you update Logic Pro 9... OS X... Drivers for Midi/Audio or other connected devices?
    If you did, did you then restore from a backup you made prior to these problems occuring and what happened when you did so? (assuming you do make backups of your system?)
    Did you install any new Apps on your Mac?
    Did you add a new Hard Drive? How is it formatted?
    Did you start recording or creating music in a different way to how you used to before the problem started?
    Have you started using a different SI or FX plugin or plugins.. More or different FX for example.. Did you install a new version of a plugin?
    Is all your software legal? (Have to ask because some people install all kinds of illegal plugins and whatever else.. and have no idea how the 'cracks' work or what they might affect/mess up/conflict with in the process)
    Have you looked at the System logs to see if anything is happening out of the ordinary when you get these messages?
    Have you looked at OS X's Activity monitor to see if any app or routine is kicking in hard when you get this issue?
    Basically, you need to think about and look for what changed... because something apparently changed to suddenly cause these issues...given you said you didn't have them until a certain timeframe and some of the questions above, I hope, will get you thinking..
    ....and maybe a few of the others here will come up with other ideas and suggestions to help you...
