3GS shutting down AFTER update to 4.1
So I've been reading a lot of posts here about their 3GSs randomly shutting down running iOS 4... I haven't been having that issue at all, that is until 4.1 was released (which was supposed to have fixed that issue for others...). Ever since I upgraded, my phone will shut off after it dips down to about 80% battery life. I can't restart or turn on or anything. The only thing I can do is plug it into the charger and wait a few minutes until it turns back on, and then my battery is still in the 70% range... I've tried restoring, I've shut down all the apps, I've tried everything that I can, except that I'm nowhere near an Apple store... Anyone else having the same issue with 4.1?

I would suggest collecting some data and putting it on this thread. Then when you file a bug against Apple or take your phone to the store, reference all the data points you've collected. It'll help you to get a new phone.
I know it's frustrating (I had to deal with it for a while before I just started keeping track of the behavior), but the more data you can collect, the better chance Apple can fix the problem, especially if you can't replace your phone.

When I choose the above options nothing happens.
MBPr can only go to sleep.
When i force quit loginwindow from Activity Monitor nothing happens.I can sudo reboot /shutdown

MacBook Pro (10.7.3) not shutting down after updating to latest iTunes
This is a bit of a strange one, and after searching high and low, I haven't seen any other references to it, so...here goes:
I'm working on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) running OS X 10.7.3, and the complaint is this: the system will not shut down or eject a connected iPod (classic) or smartphone (Verizon Android phone) after updating to the latest version of iTunes.
I've been troubleshooting this for several days now, and I've tried the following:
1. Created a new admin account and tested from there. No change.
2. Created a backup image of the hard drive, erased & reinstalled 10.7, created temp admin account - issue resolved, but iTunes library unable to open because it was modified by a newer version of iTunes.
3. Ran software update to bring system current (as of 20 April 2012)
4. Issue reappears after software update.
5. Reinstalled 10.7.3 from Recovery partition.
6. Again, issue resolved, but unable to open iTunes library modified by newer version.
7. Update iTunes, issue returns.
I actually did several variations of the erase & install routine, as well as several admin accounts, but the basic gyst of it is that after updating iTunes, the system hangs at the spinning gear on shutdown every single time.
The version of iTunes that is reinstalled with Lion is 10.5.1. I don't know which version between that and 10.6.1 is causing the problem.
Not sure where to go from here, so I figured I'd throw it out to the community.
Thanks.Well, after throwing my hands up in the air, I returned the MacBook Pro and iPod classic to their owner because I'd held onto them for over a week trying to troubleshoot the issue with no success.
Two days later, she contacted me and told me her iPod was the culprit -- it had some bad sectors on the hard drive. I had thought to check that, but she had data on the iPod that wasn't backed up anywhere, so I back-burnered that until later.
Glad to see I'm not going insane, though. ;^) -
Macbook Pro doesn't shut down after update
After downloading the update for Safari 5.1.2, I restarted my computer to finish the installation but it stayed stuck on a grey screen with the software update bar on top. Now I can't shut down my computer. Everytime I shut it down I'm brought back to the same grey screen and nothing other than the power button will shut my macbook down.
I'm running Lion on a Macbook pro 2.4 GHzHow long are you waiting? I've waited as long as 3-minutes in Leopard already. I was about ready to force shutdown, but then all of a sudden, it shut down.
If yo don't reboot that often, you may have a bunch of virtual memory swap files it's unloading. Try shutting down right after a reboot and see what happens.

My iMac has begun shutting down (twice in the past day and a half) after downloading the newest update, (I didn't get OS Lion) just the new updates. I have i5 intel mac and it is less than a year old. I am just curious if anyone else is having similar issues. Also it is important to include that when I turned my cpu back on I had to unplug it from the wall first, the power button was unresponsive.
I have 2 of the same iMacs in addition to 2 macbook pros with quad cores that are very new. The latest update rearranged my bookmarks on one machine to a previous set and, more importantly, disabled a program I use to disable keylogging. On another machine, some website settings were dropped in addition to the keylogging program. The macbook pros, which are brand spanking new, also had some minor glitches. I know these guys have a lot on their plate right now since they have obviously released Lion before they fully debugged, but those of us who had sense to wait a few months for them to get things straight should not be punished by the release of a buggy update of the migration tools. Apple is such a strong company and culture that I would have expected them not to rush to unleash this Windows-like buggy set of updates and releases.

My iphone 4s shuts down after update to iOS 7.1!
My 4s shuts down every time, almost every hour but only since I updated it to 7.1!
I tried everything but nothing helped. No resetting, no going back to factory settings, no pressing Home Button + Power button.
The staff in Apple Store told me that my phone hardware and battery i ok so it has to do wih the software 7.1
They can't fo anything and I have to wait for an update!!
Does anyone has the same problem or a solution?

In Apple Store, they told me that it is a hardware problem and my phone isn't able to use the new iOS 7.1 because my phone is too old but it's only 2,5 years old.
I suspect that something in that conversation was seriously misunderstood. The iPhone 4S runs iOS 7 without any issues.
If the device has a hardware issue, then it does not matter what version of iOS is on the device, it will not function properly. -
IPhoto shuts down after update
I recently brought my MacBook into the Apple Store and had someone from the Genius Bar do a massive overhaul software update on my computer. The reason was because whenever I tried accessing my iPhoto it would shut down. Now I can pull up my iPhoto, but if I try to email or upload a photo on my facebook, it will shut down. I saw the guy delete a certain file in my application folder. Any suggestions?

MacBook shuts down after update on startup
Today my MacBook has been acting up again. This time, I shut it Down and restarted it, then it started applying the update for a while. Then, after it's done, it shus down. When I power it up again, it updates again. Then the same cycle repeats and repeats. Could someone please help me?
I am having identical issues as you described - although I haven't installed secrets preference pane (so I doubt that's involved).
My problem went on for hours one night, I got sick of dealing with it and went to sleep with AC adapter unplugged and macbook off. The next day, it worked fine all day long. Now here I am in the evening - had a power cut, AC adapter went off obviously, and MacBook powered off. Again now I have this problem.
I tried everything you've talked about (PRAM reset) as well as SMC reset, no change. My battery stats look great, says battery is healthy. This started happening to me a few days ago, I upgraded to 10.6 a few weeks ago.. not sure what caused this to start happening.
I found one VERY interesting thing, maybe you can check this: when I have the problem, with AC adapter unhooked, when I try to power up my MacBook it comes up for 2-5 seconds (sometimes until the apple tone, sometimes not), and turns off. If I HOLD THE POWER BUTTON for 5+ seconds the MacBook remains on, the white light on the front flashes, and I get a long tone. This procedure is supposed to be used for firmware updates or something. Anyway, when I do this, the computer comes up perfectly and it uses the battery. When I hook an AC adapter up, that works, but as soon as I unplug it I am back to the same problem. You should try this and see if it works for you, it may be a clue. If nothing else, it's a good way to still use your laptop if you are on the go and can't be dead in the water
My wife has a MacBook slightly newer than mine, I'm going to try her battery when possible to see if that solves the problem. I hesitate to go to the genius bar as they are terrible where I live and it's always been a waste of time
(Also, the battery update fails for me as well). -
IMac (late 2013) periodically shuts down after updating to Yosemite
I have a 27 inch iMac (late 2013, have had it 6 mos.) which I updated to Yosemite and after the update, it has just shutdown 5 or 6 times, (panic reports say 5 times). The system also seems sluggish at times... It has worked like a charm until the upgrade. I'm trying to decide whether to reinstall Yosemite -which went smoothly- or to try to go back to Mavericks. I have the System Diagnostic Reports as well as the system diagnostic test, I just don't know how to interpret the results. Does anyone have the expertise to explain what is happening? (I'm not a novice, but haven't played with unix for 18 years!)

MarkI have a similar problem on my iMac 27-inch Mid 2011. No problems before upgrade yesterday to Yosemite. System settings show positive connection for wifi and ethernet. But web & mail access doesn't work for ethernet. Wifi access works only if I change service order with wifi listed before ethernet.
Apple phone support blamed it on my internet provider or router. However, our 2nd iMac (identical model) has web & mail access with ethernet. The other iMac is still running Mavericks. So the problem is clearly Yosemite.
I have put in a request for Apple support to call me tomorrow, & I'll see if they try the blame game again. -
No sound on youtube videos. Again. Seems to come and go with auto updates or shut down after updat
Currently no sound for windows and no sound for youtube but I have sound for songs saved in windows media player and the sound tests accessed through the speaker icon in the tray. What can I do?

Restore the phone as new, and you will have to redownload your apps back to the phone and put your other content back in. As of right now you have nothing so, you have nothing to lose.

Just updated my 4S to iOS 6 - it shut down after the instait showed a "connect to iTunes" icon.
Just updated my 3GS to iOS 6 - it shut down after the install - then it showed a "connect to iTunes" icon.
iTunes said the phone was in recovery mode & needed to be restored. Clicked "restore" in iTunes & get "iTunes is restoring the software on this iPhone" - didnt work - came back to showing the "connect to iTunes" icon.
Have repeated the process twice now - same result - "connect to iTunes" icon displayed on the phone & iTunes says the phone is still in recovery modeSee Here > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is. -
Mac won't shut down after 10.6.8 update - a possible fix
I noticed that after updating my MacBook Pro to 10.6.8 (using the latest 1.1 combo update) that often times when attempting to shut-down after using Safari the computer would just hang or, I'd get a message that said something like, "OSX didn't log you out because Safari did not quit...".
After putting the system into SAFE BOOT mode and trying to launch Safari I was getting tons of errors about Flash Player plug-in 10.6 crashing.
After downloading the latest Flash player plug-in from Adobe the hang-on-shutdown behavior seems to have stopped.
FYI for those who haven't found a fix.Hi, I've just come accross the same problem... did you manage to get a resolution??

After having shut down after installing updates, when I restarted and tried to open a word doc, it started opening ALL the word docs and the only way I could stop it was by"force quit" . This is REALLY annoying!!
May be it is the Resume feature.
System Preference > General > Number of recent items
Uncheck the box next to "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps".
