3GS Upgrade to OS4.0 - Lost Pause Functionality when dialing

A number of my contacts have extensions or dial a calling card string after the PAUSE key. This worked very well on my 3GS before I upgraded to OS4.0. Now the numbers after the pause are no longer recognized.
Is there any way to fix that or is it a known issue?
Thanks

Thanks Tommy, but I had already tried the "Notes" setting on and off and neither seemed to make any difference.
I just tried to email a Voice Memo, another feature I use regularly, and it had the same problems as before however this time it wouldn't even send a message to the Outbox.
I decided to try a few differnent mail accounts I have, POP3, IMAP and HOTMAIL to see if any of them would work. Interestingly, when I created a new POP3 account and clicked "Save", during the verification process for this new POP3 account it produced an error with the IMAP account!
I thought I should just delete the newly created POP3 account as well as my normal IMAP account (this one noted in the first post above) and then I'd recreate the IMAP account. As I deleted the POP3 account, I heard the sound that is played when an email is sent, the phone then automatically switched to the Mail application and showed the Outbox with all of my previous attempts to send Notes and Voice Memos from the last couple of days. Which all sent successfully.
So even though I was able to send and receive emails during this time, it would seem the OS4.0 upgrade butchered something in the IMAP account settings, which caused both the Notes and Voice Memos to have issues.
It all seems to be working OK now, I just thought I would share this solution/work-around in case anyone else is having the same problems as I did.

since upgrading to os4 my 3gs won't sync music and photos. a sync completes successfully and other things like contacts, calender etc all sync fine. but my folders of photos i want synced to the phone don't appear in the photos app anymore... and also any new music (songs or playlists) i add to be synced just don't appear on my phone. also another i've noticed, when i add a song (or more than one), the space that is attributed to music doesn't increase and free space doesn't decrease. does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I also get alot of errors liek 13014 or 9..

  • IPhone 3GS upgraded to OS4

Hello, please can you help me fix a problem. I recently upgraded to os4 which was a problem free exercise. However in photos I cannot get rid of the toolbars top and bottom which effectively spoils one of the great features; ie viewing uncluttered pics. Normally these should vanish with one tap. Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me and my 3GS. I tried syncing and unsyncing, didn't work. The strange part is that I'm pretty sure the ringtone is actually on the phone-- I hooked my phone up to a different computer and transfered purchases, and it moved my Imma Be ringtone off the phone into the different computer's iTunes library. But I still can't set it as a ringtone...

  • 3Gs upgraded to os4 - breaks nissan car integration

Controlling my 3Gs with my 2009 Nissan Murano worked fine with os 3.x but after the 4.0 upgrade, I can still browse my music library when connected via a wired connection, however when I select a song it will not play.
I can select a song when the 3Gs is disconnected, start playing, then connect it to the car and it will play properly, but won't display the song info on the car's screen, nor can I pause/skip tracks. To confirm the issue started with the 4.0 upgrade, I tested my brother and friends 3Gs's which haven't gone to 4.0 yet, and they work properly, as mine used to.
I read a few other people having problems with this in their infinity cars, but since its a relatively fresh problem, there isn't too much support out there.
Anyone else having this issue? I would gladly roll back to 3.x if it were an option without loosing all my data.

Have the identical issue with my 2010 altima. 3G running v3.1.3 works perfectly. Iphone 4 running v4.0 can see playlists, but when trying to play, all i see is the #1 on the screen. hopefully a fix coming soon from Apple. for now, we'll have to use AUX.

  • IPhone 3Gs - upgrade to OS4.0 failed and I can't restore anymore (error 36)

I tried to upgrade my iPhone 3gs to the new OS4 and I received an error message (unknown error (36)) during the process. I can't turn the phone on anymore and it is not possible to restore it using iTunes 9.2.
I tried to follow the steps described in the topic http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2469544&start=0&tstart=30
however it hasn't worked. I've downloaded the OS4 file about 10 times, always deleting the previous one located in the DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS folder. I've also tried to install the 3.1.3 firmware but iTunes didn't accept it (error 3194), showing me another error message...
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

  • Audiobooks wont "start from where I left off" after 3GS upgrade to OS4

    Hi All,
I am having a bit of a problem with my 3GS iPhone that is running OS4. When listening to an audiobook, if I stop listening to the book, and instead watch a movie, listen to a song, or another book, my place in that original book is lost.
The bookmark is kept if I stop the book and later come back- but if I do anything else in the iPOD, the bookmark is gone.
It seems as if only 1 bookmark can be stored at any 1 time- whether its a movie, a song, or an audiobook..
Previous versions of the software never had this limitation, so I am suspecting that this is a bug.
(yes, I have the 'start playing where i left off' selected in the setting menu)

I have the same issue, but I'm listening only to one audiobook at a time, I do not switch between Audiobooks and videos.
Usually I plug my iPhone (3GS) into my car cradle and select the Audiobook via the car stereo iPod interface. It happens very often that the book starts from the beginning when I do it that way. What I usually do is, that I start playing the Audiobook from the iPhone and plug the phone into the cradle afterwards. This works most of the times. Additionally I make a screenshot of the iPod app after leaving my car, so I have a "Backup" of the last playback position.
The bad thing is, that it was working perfectly with iOS 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, in iOS 4.1 it starts to become crappy.
I had the same issue on my iPhone 3G ever since.
    Regards,
    Frank

  • IPhone 3GS upgrade to OS4 Photo problem

    Hi All:
After updated my iPhone 3GS to OS4 system, I found all the pictures are damaged. The resolution becomes less than 320*240...
Do you have some ideas about it?
    Many thanks to any reply.

Okay - Have managed to fix this issue.
    1) Un-sync photo's via itunes by unchecking the 'Sync Photos From' box
    2) Once this has done and photos from Iphone have been deleted, *reboot Iphone*.
    3) Sync photos from desired folder as normal via itunes. Once done *reboot phone*
Think the key here is to reboot your iphone everytime.

  • I have iphone 3gs upgraded recently n have lost all my apps how do i get it back n also the itunes looks different ?

All of  your apps should be in iTunes on the computer, simply sync them back.
If they are not, go into the purchase history and download them again.

Is there a Windows 8.1 driver that I can download to make the sound card work again? Please provide the source/link so I can download and install it. Thanks.

You could try the driver for windows 7 and check if it helps.
you can also try to update windows 8.1 as a new update may install the driver from Microsoft's driver library.

  • Pause function when dialling via 3rd party

I use Planet Talk, a cheap rate international calling service, to dial international numbers from my Nokia N80. It's a bit of a hassle, because I have to first scribble down the number I'm going to call, then go through the PT number, and then manually type out the friend's number. My old Windows Not-so-smartphone did have one great feature, which was being able to insert a pause into an extended string of numbers. So I could amend my overseas friends' numbers as the PT number, "p", and then their number. When dialling them it would go to PT, pause for 3 seconds - which was enough time for the rerouting to kick in - and then dial the contact's number automatically. Does anyone know of functionality like this in Nokia phones?

try pressing the '*' key (repeatedly) when you dial/enter the number in Contacts

  • After upgrade from 3.6.28 to 12.0 I lost bookmark functionality

OS is Windows XP 64-bit SP2. Upgrade from version 3.6.28 to version 12.0 doesn't work properly because I lost bookmark functionality. Bookmark menu is there, but no bookmark entries.
    - I tried to add a bookmark (visit a page, then 'bookmark this page'), but that doesn't work: no error message, but nothing is bookmarked
    - I tried to restore bookmarks from previous Firefox (yes i previously made backup), but that doesn't work either. I tried that in 2 ways:
    1) Show all bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore -> Choose file -> bookmarks-2012-05-06.json;
I get error message 'Unable to process the backup file'.
    2) Import and Backup -> Import bookmarks from HTML -> bookmarks.html;
I get no error message, but nothing is imported.
    - I tried to rename places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old and start Firefox. Didn't help.
    - I tried to uninstall Firefox and make clean installation (didn't keep old settings), but that didn't help either. Bookmarks don't work.
    - In the past year I tried to upgrade Firefox 3.6.xx to previous versions (i think they were 4.x, 9.x, 10.x), but I ran into the same problem, so I reverted to 3.6.xx. Problem this time is that 3.6 is no longer supported, so upgrade is not optional.
Thanks in advance for your help.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Upgrade to os4 - A way to get lost information - CONTACTS and TEXTS

I have been spending hours, and hours, trying to figure out what happened to this phone. I upgraded to os4, and when I did, I lost everything (contacts, texts, pics, apps, etc.), eventhough I backed up everything on a weekly basis. Not sure where Apple dropped the ball on this major issue. I have been looking for hours to find a fix. I came across a post that was helpful in finding a way to solve some of my problems, including FINDING MY LOST CONTACTS! I have to manually enter them into my phone again, but at least I have them! Like, me I am sure many of you don't memorize phone numbers anymore. I have just added to a post I found by Somebody2 on another forum (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11831613), as a starter, and added to it, to give more specific directions. I am extremely thankful; to have found this! I am still looking to find a way to get back my lost pictures, but that may be a lost cause. Hopefully this can help some of you out there, like it did me(....sigh of relief). Anyway, here is a way to find those lost contacts and texts:
Here are the main steps, assuming that you did backup your iPhone using iTunes recently:
    1. Use the following tutorial to install FireFox with SQLite Manager add-in and point it to your backup folder:
    http://www.skyontech.com/blog/iPhone-app-data-access
(**when following these directions, make a copy of the backup folder, and paste it on your desktop to make the overall process a little easier)
**2. Once you have opened SQLite, Click on the options (hammer/screwdriver icon) at the top. Change the "Default file extension for SQLite files" to mddata then click OK. Next, Click on the word "Directory" at the top, just under the menu bar. Then select choose "Select default directory". Choose the most recent folder inside the backup folder you copied to the desktop, then click OK.
**3. Now the more time consuming part (took me at least 30 minutes). Beside the word "Directory" you can now choose files from a drop down menu. The easiest way I found to do this is to click on the 1st one, then click go. You can continue down the list using the arrow key, and click go each time you go to a new file... As you do this, you will see the left side change. Sometime it has nothing (No directory found), and other times there is a list of menus (master table, tables, views, indexes, triggers). I found mine in the 38...range out of the hundreds of files.
**4. Continue to go through the files until you see "ABGroup" under the tables menu as an options (it does not show up under the "master table" menu, just under "tables").
    5. Once you have found "ABGroup", Click on the "Execute SQL" tab in the SQLite Manager and copy/paste the following:
    ====================
SELECT First, Last, Organization, Note, value as Phone FROM ABPerson, ABMultiValue WHERE ABMultiValue.property=3 AND ROWID=record_id ORDER BY First
    ====================
    Then click "Run SQL" button.
You should now see the list of all contacts backed up from your iPhone. You can also highlight all rows with the mouse and the SHIFT key, then right-click and select "Copy Rows as CSV for Excel", then paste them to Excel so that you can print your contacts spreadsheet.
NOTE: You can do the same thing for finding text messages. The only difference, is that you want to look for the word "message" under the tables menu instead of abgroup.
I have never posted here, but this was a HUGE help to me, so I thought I would try to share a more detailed way to get these back. I know it's not easy, but IT WORKS!! I am so relieved, and thanks a lot Somebody2!!!!
If anyone knows how to recover lost pictures, even if it is a process like this, please, please, please post it.

oops...ouch...hard way to learn to always back up your stuff
you "never" backed anything up?? not even an old backup someplace? you really don't have to answer...i'm just feeling your pain. difficult.

  • I lost my photos when I upgraded to ios5 on my iphone 3gs

Hi I have lost all but the photos from the camera roll album when I upgraded my iPhone 3gs.  I had also lost my music but have sorted that out.  The photos tho are what are important as some are my wedding photos and of our puppy when we first got him etc.  I have read about doing a restore but that wants you to wipe everything and that worries me.  I can't find my photos anywhere.  I freely admit that I haven't done a sync in ages with my itunes so thought to do it today and now it's all lost....please help.  I'm not very computer savvy.  All my apps and contacts are there the photos are all that are now missing.  Yes I admit I'm an idiot for not making sure the photos had been backed up.  I thought that happened automatically when you synced the iphone which I did do a few months ago.  Please help a woman in her mid 40's fighting depression and now the loss of her photos...beware family...lol....it's either laugh or cry.  Thanking you in advance for your help...Cheryl

I was able to get photos to show up on the camera roll that look like they are missing. Here's how (taken from another thread.)
1- Download Iphone Explorer (does not need to be a jailbroken device) http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/
2.) connect your iphone using the usb cable
    3.) launch iphone explorer
4.) backup and then delete the following files:
         /Media/PhotoData/MISC/Info.plist
         /Media/PhotoData/Photos.sqlite (or /PhotoData/Photos.sqlite)
         /Media/PhotoData/PhotosAux.sqlite (or /PhotoData/PhotosAux.sqlite)
    5.) reboot your iphone
After you reboot your device, windows will prompt if you wan to open your iphone on windows explorer as usual. After you open it, your photos are going to be there, just like it was before update.

  • 4.2 Upgrade, Lost Movie Functionality

Ok, this is really strange. Just updated to 4.2 on my 3GS and i've lost all functionality for movies. I mean, the icon for movies has GONE off the phone, all of the options in settings that relate to movies have just gone, if i search for movies that i know are synced to the phone, they don't show up?!
Checked all the settings in iTunes, nothing unusual, i've checked that parental controls have not somehow been activated, i've re-synced content. It's like the 'Movie Abilities' have just been removed.
Just restoring my phone to see if that fixes it, absolutely bizarre!
