[3GS] Upgraded to iOS 6 and battery exploded.

Hi,
I recently upgraded my 3gs to latest iOS, and today the battery exploded.
When i called the Apple support, they told me its supposed to happend to older
iPhone's (2 years) to protect the battery from being charged when its old.
So when i asked him if its supposed to wreck my iPhone, he just say yes,
and gave me an offer to repair it for $350.
The only thing he kept asking me was if i got burned when it exploded.
So, what do you guys think, is a 2 year iphone old enough to explode?
Regards
Marcus

Not sure about that, but for the repair price of $350 what I do know is that you could upgrade to an iPhone 4s or 5.

CME is part of the IOS, so you can't upgrade the IOS seperately from CME.
That said, if this is a production environment you should proceed with caution and be prepared to roll back as you may find bugs, etc.
You should also look at release notes and make sure your phone firmware will still work or needs to be upgraded too.

  • IPhone 3gs upgrades to ios 5 and now crashed

I have spent the whole day upgrading the families iphones, ipods and ipad. The 32gb iphone 3gs has now crashed and is stuck in a loop of shwoing the Apple logo, then goes into the connect to itunes screen adn then back ot the apple logo. It will not power off, will not hard or soft reset and will not go into recovery mode.
I have trried all resets by being  both connected to itunes and not. I have installed all latest itunes. I am using windows 7. I have also tried on another computer using viats, but no difference.
    What now?

If your iPhone is in recovery mode, your data is already gone.
If you have been regularly syncing with your computer or backing
up over iCloud, you can restore from there. Otherwise, your contacts
should be in whatever program you use on your computer - for
example, Outlook for Windows and Contacts for OS X. Any photos
not previously backed up to computer or iCloud are gone.

  • 3Gs upgrade to iOS 5

I still have a 3Gs and planning to upgrade to iOS 5, are there any major issues with the upgrades for 3GS?

The system runs really slow. Safari runs really slow. You can type something and it will appear a few seconds later. Even the sound is delayed. Screen gets fuzzy for a couple of seconds when you zoom in. My advise is wait to upgrade.

  • Has anyone with a 3gs upgraded to iOS 6 without issue?

All I see below are a stream of issues people have had.  Is that the norm or are others actually having success.  No sense in upgrading if it will brick my phone.

No issues here. My iPhone 3GS, which I purchased new in July 2009 upgraded from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 6.0 with zero issues. Battery life is great (I replaced the battery this past June 2012 as it was only getting ~3 hours 3G use rather than ~5 hours it did new.) The GUI is more or less just as snappy as it always was. All in all iOS 6.0 is just as good as 5.1.1 in my old 3GS.

  • I have just upgraded my iOS and now I am unable to recive any emails. What's gone wrong with my iPad and the cloud?

I upgraded iOS and since then I have no emails, no iCloud tabs, and it just dose not work, and this is also on my I phone 4s.

Have you tried Deleting the Mail Account and then Re-adding it...
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.

  • Upgraded to ios and safari crashes

Upgraded both iMac and iPad and now Safari crashes on the iPad.

Other people have also reported issues with Safari on iOS 5. See if any of the following help.
Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies and Data (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT4623 iPhone 4 upgraded to IOS 6 - battery drains quickly - can anyone help me?

I have just upgraded the operating system software in my iPhone 4 to IOS 6.0 (10A403). Since that time, the battery has been draining rather rapidly. With only the phone in standby, wi'fi off, the battery gets extremely warm to the touch. When I come out of standby, you can almost watch the battery capacity drop at about 10% in 3 or 4 minutes.
I have tried dpoing a backup to my computer, then a restore with a re-synch. This gained me a bit more memory space, and the battery went from 100% down to 28% in the period of 7 hours. No calls were made or received.
I am preplexed and hope someone has some idea of where I should start looking.
    Thanks.

  • 3GS upgrade to IOS 5.0

    Hi All,
I have Iphone 3GS with OS version   Settings -> General -> About -> Version  4.1(8B117), I think its installed IOS 4.1, I am not sure. I am planning to Upgrade it to IOS 5.0 or 6.0, I dont know which one is available for 3GS. But heard 6.0 is faster than 5.0.
But has some doubts on locked/unlocked. I bought it in USA and now using in India (Its unlocked). Bought unlocked one through Amazon few days back. Now If I upgrade OS thorugh Itunes, do I face any issues like Not detecting SIM / carrier?  Any issues after upgrade.
    Need your suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Manjunath

If your phone is not officially unlocked, and you upgrade software or restore the phone, it will be re-locked to the carrier it was originally locked to. Since Amazon is NOT an authorized source for iPhones, it is safe to assume iPhones purchased this way have been "hacked" to unlock them, hence the warning you received. Only the carrier, that an iPhone is locked to, can authorize the phone's official unlocking, & the ONLY source of officially unlocked iPhones, out of the gate, in the US, is Apple...no where else.

  • Since upgrading to IOS 5 battery life is much less

I have upgraded my IPHONE 4 to IOS 5 and have noticed a significant change in my battery life. Any recommendations are welcomed

If your ISP is Comcast, read on....
I had similar problems with both my iphone and ipad when using my wifi, but not when using cellular.  Turned out to be a Comcast issue with their implementation of DNSSEC validation. You can see my full explanation on my blog at http://blog.trif.com/?p=295.  The site is being blocked by Comcast because the Microsoft portal does not meet DNSSEC validation rules.  This applies to Comcast DNS Servers 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.75.76.

  • HT4972 I have music on my itouch that I did not purchase from itunes, but downloaded from CD's that I owned. If I upgrade my iOS and sync my device, will it remove that music, requiring me to reload it back onto the device?

I've found that certain apps that I desire require a certain iOS level, so to speak. However, I have been hesitant to sync my itouch (3rd generation) to itunes to upgrade, mainly because it warns me that my media will be removed. Most of the music on my device has come from CDs which I have downloaded onto my itouch and not from itunes, so the music is not on my itunes itself. Since I do not fully comprehend what "syncing" my itouch to my computer will do, I would like to be certain that if I do sync my device all media will be removed. If this is the case, then I must persue ways to back that music up before I proceed with the syncing. If you could let me know as much information about this as possible, I would be truly grateful. Thank you.

You will probably lose the music.
Why is it not on your computer?
Have you failed to maintain a backup copy?

  • When i try to update my iPhone 3gs with new IOS and it won't restore and update

i Tried to update my 3Gs with the new IOS 5 and now it has the plug into  itunes sign. I plugged it into itunes and it told me its in recovery  mode and it needs to be restored. when i click restore i can only  restore and update it but once it is don extracting the software and  preps it for restore it tells me it has an unknow error. when i hit ok  it tells me to restore it again. i tried all the troubleshooting steps  none helped. Any ideas?

I have spent the better part of three days on this.  Yesterday I took it to the Apple store and they looked at it and tried to DFU (hold the lock button for 5 seconds, then press the home button along with the lock button for 10 seconds, THEN, let off the lock button continuing til the 'connect to itunes' symbol.
They say that my phone has a bad memory module or logic board.  Funny, it worked fine up until I updated.  Seems to big of a coincidence to not be related.
The only thing that seemed to get access was using redsnow unlocking tool (my phone is NOT unlocked).  I was desparate to try anything.  I tried to load a different firmware but still no luck.
I have a blackberry through work that is paid for, so I guess its time to get rid of my iphone plan.
