Hello I want to know if I can my 3GS phone abroad. I don't want to register Data roaming service, but I heard that I can use same a device in Korea if I change USIM card...
Is this an unlocked iPhone?

Usage abroad - stop apps updating
I recently went to France: turned off data roaming etc and set a usage limit, but every time I turned on Maps to check traffic etc, all my other Apps decided it was time to update. This used up my daily allowance in minutes. How do I stop the usual apps updating without permission? Then I can restrict my data usage to navigation only.

Go to Solution.When you enable data/roaming all apps in the phone will have access to the internet. To avoid high data usage, open Play store -> [menu] -> Settings -> Auto-update apps and set it to not use auto-update or to only use WiFi. Then go to Settings -> Data usage and check what apps you have that use alot of background data. Tap those and select to restrict background data.

I want to know whether we can use iphone to browse the internet abroad where there is no ATT. I know we can use it and we get charged when we come back. I wanted to know whether we can use it with a WiFi connection free of cost.
Yes you can use a Wi-Fi connection free of cost - as long as the Wi-Fi connection does not charge for access - the same with a laptop that includes a wireless card.

UK iPhone 4S Activation/Usage Abroad

I immigrated from the UK to Hong Kong on Saturday 15th. I was lucky enough to have my 4S pre-order from the Apple UK Online Store arrive on the 14th at my doorstep.
Does anyone know why I can't activate certain SIM cards in my 4S?
I'm currently still on my O2 sim and roaming, but when I tried a local PCCW (it's equivilent of BT over here) sim card, it wouldn't activate. The shop owner then tried it in another new 4S (also from UK he said) and it activated fairly quickly eliminating the SIM to be the problem.
I can activate 3 Hong Kong SIM cards without issue. I'm going to try Smartone-Vodafone later today (who I plan to start a SIM only contract with anyway) when the store opens but any idea's before I go?
All networks here are GSM based and not CDMA.
Are UK iPhone 4Ss locked down to UK similarly-based carriers (i.e. the UK has a 3 network presence, hence it works in HK)?

The essential thing is is your 4s officially unlocked or locked to any British carrier? But i wonder since you said your 4s can be activated by 3 HK because 3 runs biz in both HK and UK then you phone is bought as unlocked, also as you said it's online pre-ordered i presume your one is unlock from apple website.
My situation is slightly different. I purchased 4s from 3UK and paid to unlocked them after i brought them back to China, buy calling 3UK CS and paid by credit card. Now i have confirmed with both 3UK and UK apple stores that my 4s is permenantly unlocked by apple, submitted and requested by my carrier 3UK.
The truth comes as ones i switch from the original 3UK sim to any other sim from Mainland China, the phone asks for re-activiate again... tried everything, dead end.
I've beending talked with one very friendly staff at apple store here in UK. The guess is either the phone need to at least be able to roam to it's original operator to get unlocked via itunes, or all the Chinese providers are not supported to ran 4s up. I dont believe the later one because if the phone is originally unlock from uk and been activated in the UK, it's for sure can be used with China Unicom or CMCC at 2G mode.
Still cant activate my 4s, once i insert other sim, asked for re-activate till i swith back the original UK3 SIM.
Any suggestion or help is appreciated! -
At the moment my Iphone tells me when there are updates available for my applications, I assume that it connects to the internet but I get free internet so this isn't a problem but if I'm abroad is this going to start costing me or is this a free service? Can I turn this off if needed as I don't want a £100+ bill for data usage abroad?
Whether you'll get free Internet will depend on where you are and whether there's free WiFi available in that place. If you're forced to use 3G, then it will most definitely not be free; international data roaming is expensive (though it's a lot more expensive if you don't sign up for a plan ahead of time). I would suggest that you avoid any large downloads unless you can find free, or affordable, WiFi.

has an old iphone 3gs that was not in usage for awhle. I called ATT and had it unlocked officially. After resetting it here in USA I gave it as a gift to someone to use abroad with forign sim card and phone service.
However, at the foreign company office they were told that USA iphones can not be used outside USA.
Is that true?
So How can they use it abroad?I'm fairly certain you should be able to use it abroad if it was unlocked by AT&T.
Did you restore it as a new phone and get a screen that said something similar to "Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked"?
If so, it should work on just about any GSM carrier, though the other person would want to make sure their carrier supports the iPhone. I was able to use my US iPhone 4 in London just fine.
They may not have full functionality for data speeds outside the US, but that's the only issue I can think of. And I don't think that would affect the 3GS since it can't use anything faster than 3G anyway.

Help, I've just bought a second hand iphone (my first ever) but when i try to get any apps it tells me i require ios4.3 but wen i try to update it I seeem to be missing a catorgory inbetween about and usage i should have software upgrade so i've been told i'm learning as I go lol but i have set up an itunes acc and i cant put apps on that way either has anyone come across this and a friend looked at it and said check its not been jailbreak/broked I have no idea what this means or how to check for it is it reversable any help is appreciated as i'm slowly losing the will to live lol many thanx in advance. oh I think it is a 3gs or a 3 but deff no newer cheers

As a part of my Daily Reporting Activity; i have to send 35 SMS everyday. Can someone suggest me which software is suitable for my usage as it's tedious job to forward the same sms report 35 times. Iphone 3gs:Cellular data usage
I recently purchased iphone 3gs with 200 MB data plan. 98% of my data usage was performed using wifi but i still see in the usage section that Data sent is around 225 KB and Data received is around 550 KB. My question is
1. Whether the usage in the phone matches the cingular.com records
2. Whether wifi adds to the usage and why
3. Is there any hidden app/ acct setting which is accumulating data during the sleep mode?
4. How to stop it

There are no hidden apps. The phone does do a brief send/receive data around 2:30 am.

Since the last update to iPhone 3GS, battery usage has been extremely quick! Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I would like to decide what pictures I put on my phone and which ones to delete NOT APPLE. This as you can see has really annoyed me, if any APPLE employees read these posts I would like to know how to get rid of. Deleting on one device does not affect another device.
You can delete the App's on the iPhone and nothing will happen to the ones on the iPad.
1. You don't need to.
2. Settings->Cellular->"Use Cellular Data For" will show the data usage for each App since the last statistics reset
3. Settings->General->Background App Refresh Will show which Apps are allowed to get data in the background
4. It restricts it to Wifi. If the App requires internet access and Data is turned off, it will have to wait until the device is connected to a wifi network.
5. Nope, You just use up battery since the BT radio will continuously look for nearby BT devices.
6. The Personal Hotspot uses your cellular internet connection from your phone or other cellular device; whether you consider that secure or not I cannot say. It also depends on what you are doing while connected to the Hotel's wifi. I would not do online banking while on vacation though. -
Help, iphone 3gs battery life go down in 3h abroad
Hi everyone, my iphone 3gs battery in italy is perfectly normal, when i go for example in spain or in greece ( no different voltage) the phone is 100% in the morning but after 4 h without call, message, wifi or 3g activated run out at all.
I try to close all the app, close all tab of safari, roaming is off for the data, i clear history and i reset it....
I dont know what else i could do...

That is NOT what you said previously. You said: "I try to close all the app, close all tab of safari, roaming is off for the data" We are NOT psychic. Your original statement does NOT indicate that you have 3g off.
If the phone is unable to lock onto the preferred provider you set in manual mode, it will be constantly searching for the carrier signal. This will drastically reduce battery life. If you are out of range of the carrier you want to use, put the phone in airplane mode. -
How do you delete the usage data in Diagnostics and Usage?
It just keeps piling up. There is an option to send this data to Apple but I don't and have no intention of doing so.

Thank-you.What I've done now is moved my music folder into a different folder to keep it safe, I've deleted my iTunes library, ie on itunes highlighted all and deleted. Then gone to iTunes media folder and checked they are deleted and they are. Now whatever done is put my music folder back and checked preferences and it says keep a copy of file in iTunes etc. also keep folder organised is on.
So now I have started afresh I have both my music folder and iTunes folder which hold the same songs.
So what do you recommend I should do to be able to delete the music folder and just have one folder of songs?

Unable to Create an iTunes account (free usage or otherwise) (iPhone 3GS)
So my father and I just bought our selves iPhones to stay in touch (today is the 24th... well now 25th). I recently wanted to try to get foursquare, skype, and a few other free apps so I decided to try making me an iTunes account. We tried 3 different credit cards to try and make one but they all came back with the same issue "your credit card was declined please try another pay method."
Jump to 2 hours ago I've been trying constantly to make a Free app account, the type where you go to the store, click a free app, apply for an account and say "none." When asked for credit card information, which then allows you to download free apps only. Well using this method I get the EXACT same responce "your credit card was declined please try another pay method."
Is there currently some issue going on with the iTunes store right now?
I should note I've tried making an account through both the iPhone and my PC.I don't know what "something" you were trying to redeem, but if it was a valid iTunes Store give, go to the main iTunes Store page (within iTunes), click on the "Redeem" link on the right side of the page, and enter in the code from your card. You'll be able to create an iTunes Store account without needing a credit card.
