3i PREF.txt file

The IP address of the machine that 3i is installed is suppose to be placed in the PREF.txt file. Now does it matter if the machine has two IP adresses (two network cards)? I guess what I am trying to as is does is matter which address you use in the PREF.txt file? Thanks!

I have never seen this with a disco server. Why don't you try it both ways. Ounce with a single IP address and ounce with both. I would be interested to hear your results.

Wow, what a question and the simple answer is - it depends. It depends on whether you want to do the query predictor, whether you want to increase the timeouts for users and lists of values, whether you want to have the Plus available items and Selected items panes displayed by default, and so on.
Typically, most organizations go with the defaults with the exception that you might want to consider turning off the query predictor. That predictor is usually a pain in the neck and most companies turn it off, thus increasing query performance.
Do you have a copy of my Discoverer 10g Handbook? If so, take a look at pages 785 to 799 where I discuss in detail all of the preferences and their impact.

Correct values for DefaultExportPath option in Disco pref.txt file

Hi All,
I am trying to edit the "DefaultExportPath" parameter in Disco pref.txt file file. We are using Discoverer Plus and Viewer on CP4 and are using JVM1.5 or higher.
I referred to Metalink Doc Id: 365245.1 and Oracle Configuration Guide doc B13918_03.
I am interested in making the local system desktop as the default export location for all the users with no exceptions.
Tried to edit the parameter values to
DefaultExportPath = "C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Desktop"
but it didn't work.
Also came across Metalink Doc Id: 438598.1 which talks about changing individual systems "deployment.properties" file which I don’t want to get into. It’s too much of over head.
I am looking for some pointer so that we can edit the pref.txt file to change the default location to the desktop universally across all the users.
Any help is appreciated.

I am using Firefox 11 and I am unable to print web pages. I can print PDFs ok. I tried to open the prefs.js file to delete anything that starts with print and I get an error message.

When editing '''prefs.js''' you need to use a simple text editor program. WinXP Notepad messes up the line formatting of prefs.js, so I use Wordpad - but you need to save the edited file in a Text-Only format (Wordpad asks about that when you go to save the edited file). I never used Win7, so I don't know if that version of Notepad messes with the line formatting of prefs.js or not.
Another thing - make sure '''''"Hide extensions for known file types"''''' is de-delected in Windows file / folder options > view -> advanced settings. Otherwise Windows may add a .txt file extension that you won't be able to see, and that will break that file in Firefox. '''prefs.js.txt''' won't be recognized by Firefox, when is expecting to find '''''prefs.js''''' .

.INI files vs .TXT files for changing default values in a .EXE?

I have a two-part question related to updating the default values of controls in an executable:
I am creating a LabVIEW executable for installation on two different production-floor computers.   I need to be able to change the default values of the front panel controls (as I would do with the “make this value default” command during development). From reading prior posts, I understand that I could use the “Write Configuration Settings File.vi” and “Read Configuration Settings File.vi” to generate a .INI file that would be read by the .EXE and would establish the desired values of the controls. However when I took a look at the block diagrams for those configuration .VIs, they don’t appear (to me) to be any easier to use than just reading values from a spreadsheet file. IE: Instead of using these configuration files and a .INI file, could I not instead just read values from a .TXT file that contains the desired values?   I’ve never used a .INI file before, or had to worry about “keys” and “sections,” so from my (perhaps naïve) perspective, the .INI method seems less easy to use. Is there any advantage to the .INI format?
Regardless of whether I use the .INI file or a .TXT file, I have this additional problem: One of the things that changes when I install my .EXE file on a new computer is the COM port numbers used by two serial devices.   (On my development computer, the two serial devices use COM5 and COM6, whereas on the two production-flood computers, the COM ports will almost certainly be different).   I suppose I could use the Device Manager on the production-floor computers to change the COM ports to be the same as those on my development computer, but I’d prefer to be able to (again) change the default value of the COM ports in my .EXE.   However, I’m not sure how to do that.   The configuration VIs, have options for reading / writing Booleans, strings, paths, and numeric, but not, (so far as I can tell) for a VISA class.
Any thoughts / suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

And - ah - you are right about the .INI files. I just did an experiment in which I re-ordered the sections and randomly changed which letters were capitalized in the key values, and the "read configuration settings.VI" still read the file correctly. Thanks for that.
Unfortunately, in my existing code, the controls on the block-diagram aren't all co-located together; they are scattered throughout the block diagram - some of them in case structures and loops.   I suppose that means I'll have to move them all to the left side of the block diagram, route them to these "Write Key.VIs" and then wire them up into the cases and loops with fairly long wires.   It's just a hassle, and is going to make my block diagram more complicated.  Well, I suppose that's how one learns...

Assuming you have a state machine and an Init state it's a fair use of Local Variables to update controls from the ini-file. The same goes for saving the values.

Tagging words through a .txt file

Hi all,
We have been looking all over the internet for a script that we can use/buy. But cannot find it anywhere.
We have a rather large document and an external word list in a .txt file. This list contains words that need to be in the index at the end of the document.
Instead of filling in a couple of hundred words and linking them by hand, it would be great if there is a script that can handle this.
We have looked in to Indexmatic2 (http://www.indiscripts.com/post/2011/07/indexmatic-2-public-release-and-user-s-guide ), but this script generates its own index list and does not create links to the original words in the document.
We have found a script that can create index links from colored words in the document.
So does anyone know if there is a script floating around that can load an external .txt wordlist and either color or add a character style to words in a document?
Or even a script that does what we need in 1 go?

there is a script by Martin Fischer at www.hilfdirselbst.ch (a swizz-german website) that could fit your needs. You can download it if you choose to be a premium member which requires a small fee. It's written for InDesign CS3 but it should run with CS4 or CS5. I tested it with a small list of words and it ran fine with InDesign CS5.

PowerShell Export to txt file not exporting IP

I am having an issue getting my IPs to export out to my txt file. The Hostname works fine but IPs are not there any suggestions?

How to open and edit "*.txt" file with "Notepad"

Hello guys!
I'm facing problem with SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and got no clue how to solve it.
What I want to do is to open "*.txt" (which is placed to "Documents Library") in "Notepad", so I could edit it and save (publish) directly to SharePoint from "Notepad".
If I upload any Microsoft office File, such as "*.docx", "*.xls", etc - it works as it should - document opens in appropriate application and everybody is happy.
But, when I create documents library, put some "*.txt" file there and click on it - it opens in new browser's tab as text, so I cannot edit the file.
What I tried to do is to activate feature "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" - not happy.
Edit "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\XML\DOCICON.XML" - I've modified "txt" entry as follows:

Archiving TXT files in Sender File Adapter--Unformatted Way

I am Archiving TXT files thru Sender file adapter, files are getting archived to specified directory.No issues in that.,
When i open the archived files, those are not in the correct format way that i placed before file pickup.
Header & lines got messed up side by side.

If the file that it being archived is not transformed, it should exactly be the same as the original file.
Please make sure that you are not transforming the archive file by any means(unix script, mapping logics etc).
As suggested above, it is advisable to open the file in the editors like textpad, ultraedit etc. The difference in the alignment could be because of the notepad editor.
Try to open the original and archived files in any of those(textpad,ultraedit etc) editors and check.
Please let us know if you are still able to find the difference in the alignment.

The problem is in the delimiters in your text file. By default, Read From Spreadsheet File.vi expects a tab delimited file. You can specify a delimiter (like a space), but Read From Spreadsheet File.vi has a problem with repeated delimiters: if you specify a single space as a delimiter and Read From Spreadsheet File.vi finds two spaces back-to-back, it stops reading that line. Your file (as I got it from your earlier post) is delimited by 4 spaces.
Here are some of your choices to fix your problem.
1. Change the source file to a tab delimited file. Your VI will then run as is.
2. Change the source file to be delimited by a single space (rather than 4), then wire a string constant containing one space to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi.
3. Wire a string constant containing 4 spaces to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi. Then your text file will run as is.
Depending on where your text file comes from (see more comments below), I'd vote for choice 1: a tab delimited text file. It's the most common text output of spreadsheet programs.
Comments for choices 1 and 2: Where does the text file come from? Is it automatically generated or manually generated? Will it be generated multiple times or just once? If it's manually generated or generated just once, you can use any text editor to change 4 spaces to a tab or to a single space. Note: if you want to change it to a tab delimited file, you can't enter a tab directly into a box in the search & replace dialog of many programs like notepad, but you can do a cut and paste. Before you start your search and replace (just in the text window of the editor), press tab. A tab character will be entered. Press Shift-LeftArrow (not Backspace) to highlight the tab character. Press Ctrl-X to cut the tab character. Start your search and replace (Ctrl-H in notepad in Windows 2000). Click into the Find What box. Enter four spaces. Click into the Replace With box. Press Ctrl-V to paste the tab character. And another thing: older versions of notepad don't have search and replace. Use any editor or word processor that does.

Copy contents of a txt file into a transport request

I don't know the OSS note, but I think they mean, that you have to go into the object list of your transport (in transaction SE09), switch to change mode and insert the objects from the text file.
I guess the text file looks like:

A better way to search a string in a 3GB txt file

I am looking for a string(12 characters) in a 3GB txt file. I use the file reader to go though each line and use the startwith() (that 12 characters are from the beginning of each line) to check if that line contain the string I am searching for. Is there a faster way to do it? Thank's.

I would avoid using java to parse/search a 3 GB text file at all costs. Any java solution is going to have terrible performance and you may run into memory problems. I would recomend that you either a) develop a native method for resolving this search and just invoke it from your current java class or b) use Runtime.exec to invoke a native OS command for searching the file (like grep or find) and parse the results. ....
I'm not even sure how I would complete that task with java exclusivly ... maybe break the file into smaller parts, then iterate through each smaller, temporary file ... I would really recomend storing your data in a different format if possible. A 3 GB text file just isn't very partical or secure.
... oh, to answer your original question (which I'm not sure if I all ready did), the fatest way to load the file is to wrap it into some BufferedReader. The fatest way to perform String searches is through the java.util.regex package if you have access to the 1.4 API. Other wise, just use basic String searches, as you all ready are.

How do I read txt file and add items to dropdownlist or checkbox

I want to add items to a dropdown or check box by reading from a text file(and select one of them). (I donot use any table or database). The list of items is sometimes upto 20MB and hence cannot populate using session bean.I want items to be added to either checkbox or listbox during a button action. I have done this for textarea but unable so far to acheive for checkbox or listbox. I use following code which does not work:
