3rd Gen iPod Battery will not hold a charge

After fully charging my ipod I turn the unit off and lock the unit, the next day I only have about 2/3 battery power left, 2nd day 1/3 and the 3rd day the battery is fully discharged. I just had the battery replaced hoping this would fix the problem but no help

my 3rd gen Ipod will not hold a charge for more than 4 days after it is disconnected from the charger. The Ipod is turned off and locked.
New battery installed and no help

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

Apple will exchange the iPod for $79

If only the battery is bad, Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • Battery will not hold a charge

My ipad 3 will not hold a charge on the battery, it has been pluged into the wall, using the provided wall charger, since noon. Now, it is 5pm and the battery is only around 40%. The iPad is still under the 1 year warrenty. Will apple replace the battery if the digitizer screen is broken? (it has a slight crack) Or is my warrenty void?

You will need to take the iPad to Apple, the screen and battery are two different problems, but they could be related.  Apple will need to make that determination.  It will be very difficult to replace your battery without breaking the digitizer if it has a small crack.

  • 3rd gen ipod touch will not sync having done so on coutless occassions and now it just does 1 phase of sync

I have a 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch when I try to sync it it goes through phase one of the sync and then says sync complete, changing nothing on the ipod
if I reset my Ipod and it wipes everything off and then it still wont sync I will have a worthlerss ipod no tune or apps on it

I have checked for latest updates but there are none i had the errors wrong they are actually:
"Attempting to copy to the disc "iPod touch" failed. An error occurred while writing to the device."
"iTunes could not copy "song name" to the iPod "iPod name" because an unknown error occurred (-20)."
the strange thing is i am allowed to take things off because i had some voice recordings and they got transferred into iTunes but its just copying onto the device that is the problem i also checked my Anti-Virus software and it hasn't blocked iTunes or anything associated with Apple. i will also check my computer's manufacturing website for updates.

  • 80GB iPod Battery Will Not Hold Charge

I have owned an 80GB iPod since September. I have had no previous problems except for it resetting on certain mono audio files while the EQ was on. Turning the EQ off fixed that.
But tonight I plugged the iPod into the power adapter to charge, came back 5 hours later and it said 'Charged', unplugged it, began using it, and within 2 min it reported a low battery and then died. I plugged it back into the power adapter and it began to charge. It charged for a few minutes then reported 'Charged', but again it died within two minutes of being unplugged and played. I can watch the battery meter drop. It works fine while plugged in though.
I restored the iPod twice, but it still does it.
Has anyone every heard of a new iPod's battery going dead?
What happened to it? Power surge? It was plugged into a surge protector.
Is there anything else I can try before I send it back to Apple?

I just spoke with them as well. They told me to try charging it from a different source for a good 4 hours then, if it holds the charge, to pick a song and play it on repeat and see if it will last around 20 hours. She said if it doesn't to visit: depot.info.apple.com/ipod and they would send me a box to send it back for a new one (mine has engraving too). She said the box would arrive in 1 business day, the test and replacement (if it's broken) would take 4 days with a few extra for personalization. So about a week. Still ***** though.

  • Help please.... My 3rd gen Ipod Touch will not sync up to Itunes....

It keeps bringing up a window that is recognizing the Ipod as a camera and starting Camera wizard.  I followed the troubleshooting steps - I have the updated ITunes version, I have restarted, I have switched USB ports.... The last step is to reinstall Itunes, but I am afraid I will lose all of my recent music that I have uploaded from CDs (& spent hours doing!)

Reinstalling iTunes will not do anything to your music/iTunes library. However, you should always backup your important files.
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
I would remove and reinstall all the Apple software using:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

  • IPod battery will not hold charge

I bought an iPod Classic last March and for some reason, even when I charge it for the full 4 hours +, it will show a full charge, but within an hour the battery has drained entirely and is dead. Can anyone help me?
I can't even take it back to the store... I bought it at Circuit City and their chain is obviously gone.

You can take your iPod and the receipt to an Apple store.

  • HT1430 My 4th Gen iPod touch will not turn, doesnt charge, and i can't reset in computer because it says it is protected by a passcode, but i cant enter pass code because the screen stays black and won't even light up... What do I do

My 4th gen iPod Touch has had a blank screen for about 3-4 weeks now, it will not turn on, sync, or charge. iTunes recognizes its plugged up, but i cant reset it because it says its passcode protected, but i cant enter passcode due to screen not lighting up or working. How do i fix this?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • Palm Pre Plus Battery WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE throughout the day!!!!!!

I have been a Palm user for many years and just traded in my Treo for the Pre Plus, what a dissapointment. I am continually looking for a place to charge the phone so I can use it when needed.  This is very frustrating.  Took it back to Verizon but they were not helpful, they just offered to sell me a car charger at 50% off and let me know that this has been on ongoing porblem with the PRE. I have dimmed the backlight and turned off automatic updates for most applications. Any other suggestions before I trade it in for the DROID.

Battery life on any of the current crop of smartphones will be pretty disappointing especially if you really use the heck out of them.  There are some things I can tell you about the Pre, though:
When you first start using it, especially if you add a good number of email, calendar, facebook, etc accounts, it chews through the battery really quickly as its constantly pulling data to populate those accounts on the phone.
Add to this that the radio requires more power the lower the signal wherever you are.  You can thank CDMA for that, and the best you can do is try to stay in a strong signal area the first day or two, especially if you're seeing a lot of data use.
The GPS is on by default (or at least it was initially, not sure on the VZ plus devices).  TURN THIS OFF (GO to location services app and from the menu make sure its checked off) if you don't use it.
Finally, I don't know the chemistry here, but the first few charges on the battery seem to "condition" it, and you'll see life improve as the first few days and charge cycles are behind you.
Palm has some general tips for maximizing your battery use, too.  Find them here:

  • I have had my iPhone about 1 1/2 years...with no problems. About 2 days ago my battery drained within an hour, I plugged it in to charge and it heated up so hot the temperature warning popped up on the screen. The phone will not hold a charge now.

I have had my iPhone 4 for about 1 1/2 years, with no problems. A couple days ago the battery drained in about an hour, I plugged it in to charge and it was not charging. After a few hours a message popped up on the screen about the temperature being too hot...the phone was very hot when I picked it up. The battery will not hold a charge and it heats up every time I plug it in. Suggestions???

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • I have a 3rd Generation iPod that will not connect to Home Wi-Fi- keeps dismissing- saying unable to connect.

I have a 3rd Generation iPod that will NOT connect to our internet connection at home. Message on screen keeps saying it is 'unable' to connect. Yes I have already reset to default factory settings, No we do not have our service encrypted or password protected, anyone else have any other viable suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • MY new Ipod Nano does not hold a charge.  I use it mostly as a watch, perhaps look at it 5 or 6 times in 8 hours, and leave it in sleep mode the rest of the time.  I drains to the red line in less than 2 days.  My husband's nano will last a week this way.

You are still under warranty if your iPod is "new."  Take full advantage of it by either calling iPod tech support, Apple Care if you have it or take it in to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
