3rd gen ipod click wheel.

My 3rd gen nano click wheel doesn't work. I have reset my ipod. I can't get the click wheel to respond to my touch. The center button works but it is REAL slow to respond. Any suggestions?

Oddly enough I just found out by accident that the click wheel works perfect..... when the usb cable is plugged into the computer. I click eject in itunes and then I use the click wheel freely. If I unplug the usb from the computer or from the iPod it stops working. Anyone have this same problem?

  • Songs not playing properly on 3rd gen iPod (click wheel)

I have a large amount of songs on my iTunes and iPod, and I often buy new music (from sources other than iTunes) to add to me collection. After updating my iPod last night to add a new album that I purchased, I noticed today that certain songs on my iPod would not play properly. When they come up in the cue or are selected to play manually, they appear on the screen, stay at "0:00 elapsed" for a second or two, then the iPod simply switches to the next cued song, as if this song has come to an end. If it's the only song in the cue, the iPod reverts to the general Menu screen.
I checked my iTunes to see that the songs were still in my library and that I did not move or delete the source. None of the affected songs had the "This song cannot be found" exclamation point next to them, and they all played fine on my computer through iTunes, but they simply wouldn't work on the iPod. I updated my iPod tonight in hopes that the mistake would correct itself, but nothing's happened.
Since this is a rare problem, I haven't been able to find any FAQs or solutions regarding it. I hope someone has the answer.
    Thanks for your time.

I have the exact same thing happening. I just bought the new Foo Fighters album, the songs play on iTunes, but will not play on my iPod. I have updated my iTunes and iPod to try to get it to play with no success. With the iPod in the sourcelist, I can play the songs from the iPod music list, but not once the iPod is undocked from my PC the song titles come up for a brief second then skip to the next song on the album without ever playing any audio. I even tried to delete the album and reload it. Never had this happen with any other songs, artists, etc.

  • 3rd Gen Nano click wheel won't work in the car.  My OLD one worked, but this one doesn't.

I use a  PXDP iPod2Car iPod interface in my 02 Firebird.  My original, trusty 3rd gen. nano used to work perfectly.  It charged, and the steering wheel as well as main stereo controls operated it.  Something happened to it recently (my guess is the logic board went bad) and it does not come on at all, plugged in or not.  I actually have 2 more just like it that I was going to give away, but decided to keep.
Neither one of these will let me use the click wheel to scroll while plugged into the car - the old one did.
I can only change songs with the car's controls.
The only difference between these two and the old one, is that they have the HP logo on the back.  Are they later models, with perhaps different hardware?
Is there anything I can do about it?
Is there any hope for the old one?
I hate not being able to scroll at all!
    thanks in advance!

Contact PXDP.  They should know if their product is compatible with your iPod Nano.

  • 3rd Gen IPod connection to Windows

I have a 3rd gen IPod (touch wheel) that came with a fire wire cable. I've been running the IPod on a Mac, but now want to switch to a PC. Question: must the PC have a firewire port or can I buy a USB cable and connect to the PC via USB? If yes, must the port be USB 2.0?
    Thanks

Question: must the PC have a firewire port or can I buy a USB cable and connect to the PC via USB?
You can use a USB cable, but frankly you can buy a firewire card for cheaper than the USB cable probably, and the firewire card works better and will allow the iPod to charge while connected (3G iPods cannot charge from a USB connection).
If yes, must the port be USB 2.0?
Again, it'll work on a USB 1.1, but it's really, really, really slow. USB2 or Firewire is much faster.
The general recommendation around here is to use Firewire. Adaptec firewire cards for preference. And most newer PC's nowadays have firewire built in anyway, and these usually work okay.

  • 3rd gen iPod caught in restarting loop

As of yesterday morning my 3rd gen scroll wheel iPod has been restarting itself over and over. None of the suggestions on Apple's website have helped (I've tried both the standard restarting technique, toggling the hold switch and holding down play/menu, and the select button/menu technique). It's not under warranty anymore and I don't particularly relish the idea of paying $249 to replace it, so I thought I'd see if anyone here had any suggestions on troubleshooting this issue - I don't care if I lose data, I just want it to play music again.
3rd gen iPod scroll wheel 15GB   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Same iPod same restarting loop problem. I put it in forced disk mode but I can't see the disk when connected to the computer with finder even with iTunes. So the latest iPod Updater doesn't see my iPod.
    So I can't Restore it.
    Any suggestion?

  • 3rd gen iPod not seen by iTunes 7.6.2.9 on Vista

3rd gen iPod and iTunes 7.6.2.9 on Vista
Used to be flawless. I'd drop the iPod on the dock, Windows would
make that sound of a device attaching, my iPod would appear in iTunes
    and the updating would happen.
Then after going out of town for a weekend (for a funeral), I come back, and my iTunes doesn't see the iPod. I do all the things Apple support and this group has suggested in the past (uninstall/install/reformat iPod/clear registry). It works again! Hooray.
Last night, I plug in the iPod, and iTunes doesn't see the iPod---AGAIN.
I repeat the process above, but this time it doesn't work.
Now, I put the iPod on the dock, Windows beeps, the iPod displays "Do
not connect" but the iPod doesn't appear in iTunes. Eventually the
iPod display will change to a plain old charging display.
    Any ideas?

If you are connecting using USB (and it has the click-wheel ), it's probably a 4th gen iPod...
Not that it matters in this case. The most likely cause is the hard drive has become faulty. It may have worked when you reformatted the iPod the first time because any bad sectors were mapped out. If the drive has too many bad sectors (or has developed some other problems), reformatting will no longer work.
You can run some internal iPod tests using Diagnostic Mode. Use this handy guide to see how to put your iPod into this mode.

  • IPod Click Wheel games compatible with ipod nano 5th Generation

I've found the iPod Click Wheel Games by clicking the triangle that appears next to the "App Store" tab and clicking the third option, "iPod Click Wheel Games." But when I look at the details of any of the games it says they are compatible with:
"This game is compatible with iPod nano (3rd and 4th generation), iPod classic, and iPod (5th generation) only. It cannot be played on your computer, nor is it compatible with other iPod models or iPhone."
Does this mean that I cannot use them on my iPod nano 5th generation? or is the iPod nano being referred to as "iPod (5th generation)"
I guess it just seems silly that a game is only compatible with older versions or that the newest iPod nano can NOT operate older games.
Can anyone explain this? or has anyone tried to download one of these iPod Click Wheel Games and found that it actually Does work for an iPod nano 5th generation?

    Can anyone explain this?
I can't but Apple should be able too - U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)

  • 3rd Gen Ipod Will Not Charge on Wall Charger

    I have a 3rd Generation non- click-wheel Ipod.
    Stock Cords
    Never opened up
    Dock
No way of charging it on my computer (usb 1.1 and 4 pin firewire)
I recently bought a wall charger, and I plug it in, and nothing happens. I am really anxious to use my ipod (I got it used) but I can't charge it. I have put it on a firewire and I has charged that way. But I have never charged it via usb or through my charger. Is my USB cord broken or is it my Wall charger (or possibly the ipod)? Any help or other ways to charge it under $40 USD would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Please check out the following

If your iPod is (dock connector) it will not charge over USB2. Charging this unit requries a built in 6 pins firewire port or the firewire iPod Power adapter

  • 3rd gen ipod not detected by mac or pc

Hi, I used my friends laptop all summer with my old 3rd gen ipod and everything was fine... now I'm home and I try to sync it to my dual 1.42 ghz g4 and iTunes wont detect it and the disk doesn't appear on my desktop.
I went into device manager and it is identified under the firewire tab but other than that theres no indication that it is connected to my computer . The Disk utility doesn't detect it either.
So i try my PC notebook and it is recognized as a removable disk in my computer, though I cannot open it and when i try to right click to reformat I my computer stops responding and I have to force quit. very rarely It reaches the format option but when i try to do it it says "disk cannot be formatted".
I've downgraded itunes to the one on the cd, ive reinstalled itunes, and nothing seems to change it. I just need it to show on device manager and I think I will be ok.
The ipod itself works like a champ...the music from my friends laptop plays fine on it, but there just seems to be an issue with connecting it to another computer so i can restore it... any tips?

Have you run Disk First Aid on it? In the Applications Folder, Utilities, Disk Utility
If the System Profiler can find the device, Disk Utility usually can, too. If Disk Utility finds something wrong, run the repair a couple times, even if DFA says it can't fix it.
    Good luck

  • Is a 3rd gen ipod supposed to charge from computer?

I just bought a ipod off ebay, it is a 15gb 3rd gen ipod with touch wheel, but when I plug it into my computer, My computer recognizes it and everything, it just doesn't charge. I have a cigarett charger, and it charges it fine. I updated it to the newest version, and it still doesn't charge, is there any way i can fix that without the restore, since i have music i still haven't transfered, because it keeps dying when plugged into my computer?

Okay. I was reading the USB does not provide power, not that the 3G iPod does not accept power thru USB.
But I must also admit, I forgot the little fact that it's FW charge only.

  • Return 3rd gen iPod to iOs4

Is it possible to return a 3rd gen iPod touch to iOs4? Every since iOs5 came out my iPod has slowed down tremendiously, I have try resetting by holding the front button and power button together until it reboots, double clicked the front buttom and cleared aout unused apps and it still isn't much better. I am very disappointed with this product now.

No, it isn't. Downgrades are not available. Sorry.
You could try restoring your iPod, but back it up FIRST so you don't lose data. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339

  • What would it cost to fix an ipod click wheel from 2004?

I have 2 old ipods from 2004. They are ipod click wheels. I think the harddrives need to be fixed on both. I would love to get them fixed. Is this possible?

Yes.  You can choose to have either Apple or a third party repair center do the job for you.  Obviously Apple's pricing will be a bit higher.  Here are their repair quotes.

For 3rd party repair centers, just do a simple Google search for iPod repair and you should get a plethora or results.

  • Need help updating a 3rd Gen iPod Touch....

I have a 3rd Gen iPod Touch running iOS4.1. I have an iMac G5 running OSX10.4.11. The iTunes version is 9.2.1. When I connect my iPod to my iMac and click 'Update' in iTunes it simply states 'You have the latest version of iTunes 9.2.1'. How can I update my iPod?
    Thanks in advance.

You need to update the OSX on your computer. Going higher that 4.1 requires iTunes 10 or higher. iTunes 10 requires OSX 10.5.8 or higher.

  • Freezing iPod Click Wheel

I was using my iPod Click Wheel 20G almost a year with absolutely no problems. I was satisfied. Like a month ago I downloaded latest update from apple web. Since then my iPod freezes very often. It hasn't played continously more then 30 songs (sometimes much less). At the end of the song it just stops playing and all I can do is to reset it. I tried to restore it to the factory settings, use the software which was on included CD, use downloaded update ... but nothing works. Can anyone help?? Thanks.

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
