3rd Gen iPod Stuck at Apple Screen

Hello,
My 3rd gen iPod is stuck on the Apple screen. It is the screen that comes on when you first turn it on (or reset it). It is stuck on this screen, and each time I reset it (Menu,Play/Pause) it just goes right back to that screen. The hard drive is spinning non-stop. When I plug it into the computer the iPod does not mount, and it does not show up in my System Profiler under FireWire connections.
Did my iPod finally die, or is there anything I can try?

If you haven't tried already, do a hard reset.

  • 3rd gen iPod stuck at apple logo

    hi all,
last week i bought a 15gb 3rd gen iPod from someone.. (with all original accessories and box)
I bought it knowing the battery was shot and bought one the day after i bought the iPod. i havent recieved the battery yet but when i plugged the iPod into my Macbook, the iPod boots to apple screen but stays there..
I can feel the hard drive spinning only when i turn it on.. and after the battery turns off or after a few seconds, i can hear a high pitch whinning sound..
I also thought that even when an iPod battery is dead, it will fully boot or at least say "do not disconnect" when plugged into a computer or ac adapter...
    any help?

When you get your battery, it should come with plastic tools to open the iPod. Try disconnecting the current battery and letting the iPod sit for a few minutes. Then, connect it with no battery. Maybe having no power and connecting it will "jump start" it, assuming there is no problem with hard drive.
Note: If you have not previously opened an iPod... Start at the top edge seam; there are no clips there. You usually get a pair of plastic tools. Open a gap (into the metal half) with one tool, at the center of the top edge. Use the other tool starting at that gap and follow the seam to the top right corner, around the corner, and down the right side. Press into the seam as you go. It should pop open along the right side. Open it like a book from the right side. The left side has a delicate ribbon cable connecting the two halves of the case, so don't yank it open on the left side.

  • 3rd Gen iPod - Stuck at startup screen - restarting

I've always had problems when a new version of itunes is released, but this time is by far the worst. I hooked up the ipod after the software update, and itunes froze (as usual) and then started transfering slowly, I then got the -36 error, as usual, so I quit itunes (via Force Quit), but the iPod could not be ejected - so I had to restart it (holding menu/play). At no point did I unplug the ipod. Only now it won't start up, or mount - it just keeps reloading the apple logo - I can hear the disk spinning and clicking, but its stuck in a constant resart.
    Any ideas?

    This is a good summary:

As Apple points out, lots of problems give the -36 error. You have to sort them out one at a time.

  • My iPod touch 3rd gen is stuck on apple logo

My iPod touch 3rd gen is stuck on the white apple logo. It will not manually restart/restore if I hold the power and menu button. It does auto restart about every 15 minutes on its own. If I plug it into my computer, both my computer and iTunes will recognize it and lets me edit its contents, fully syncs without a problem, etc. However, if I try to Update/Restore Ipod iTunes will completely freeze until my iPod autorestarts at which point it will become "unfrozen" and say there was an error communicating with my iPod. I have tried using 2 different computers with the latest version of iTunes. PLEASE HELP!

    - Try another cable

  • IPod stuck at Apple screen and computer won't restore iPod

My 80gb Classic is stuck on the Apple screen, and doesn't respond at all. It says to restore my iPod using iTunes, however, iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod, even though I've updated it.
I've tried restarting my iPod, updating iTunes, and repeated attempts at connecting my iPod. None of the support articles really help, and I've tried all I can think of.

Try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

  • 3rd gen iPod stuck in disk mode

Just realised I'd posted this in the wrong forum:
    Hi,
I've got a massive problem with my trusty old 3rd generation iPod and I'm hoping someone can help me out. This may just be a sign I should get with the times and get something a bit more up-to-date, but this iPod has served me well over the years and I'd like to see if I can fix it first.
Basically, the iPod is well and truly stuck in disk mode. I've tried over and over again to reset in various different ways. It's nothing to do with me having to connect it to my computer via USB, either, since I've tried it with my sister's computer via FireWire and it's still not happy.
I don't get a sad iPod picture or anything - it's just when I turn it on I get a picture of a folder with a hazard sign over it, and can't get rid of it.
iTunes 9 isn't the problem, since it got stuck in Disk Mode before I upgraded.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do? Like I said, I've tried over and over to reset it, so please don't just suggest that.

Sounds like you covered most of the basics and it would seem that it is indeed your iPod's controller that is the problem. Not sure what else we can add to what you have already tried, which is above and beyond what most people are capable of doing.
When you plug it into the computer does it actually show up as an external hard drive and can you use it as one?
    Sorry,
    Patrick

  • Ipod stuck on 'apple' screen

Tried reseting, nothing. Plugged it into the computer, but it didn't recognize. Tried plugging into the wall, also nothing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any other ideas? If I plug it into the wall it eventually comes on, but when I plug it into the comp itunes says it is corrupted. If I try to update it I get an error. I eject it from the comp but it stays on the do not disconnect screen. Reseting brings back the perpetual 'apple' screen.

  • Ipod stuck on apple screen after update

I did the update from my ipod touch for the iOS 6.1.something, it finished and reset and is now stuck on the apple logo start up screen. I've reset it using the middle button and the sleep button at the top and it flicks off and back on to the same screen. It won't connect to itunes either. I plug it in and it doesn't pick it up at all on my laptop.

  • My Ipod Nano (3rd Gen) is stuck on the apple logo and I don't have a computer or iTunes to fix it

Says it all in the title. My 3rd Gen is stuck on the apple logo and with no computer or iTunes how am I to fix it? I'm in some money troubles at the moment and I dont have that many resources available to fix my beloved iPod. I have tried resetting but it comes back to the logo and then it dies of battery.
    Any suggestions?

If you have an Apple Store, near you, make an appointment to take it to them. If it's not a hardware failure, they may be able to help.
    Regards.

I took the iPod to the local Apple shop. The guy put the iPod onto a docking station and checked it - answer "connections are OK". I have used the link before but have not gone through all its suggestions (although picked on the most relevant ones). I may have to go back. Thanks again for your suggestions

  • My iPod nano 3rd gen is stuck in a restore loop.

My iPod nano 3rd gen is stuck in a restore loop.  I have wiped it with Disc Utility and attempted to restore with iTunes, but there was no effect. I checked it in diagnostic mode against an identical pod and found no significant differences in the results, both checked out fine.  I know that this is not a windows driver issue since I use a mac.  In any case such an issue should have been resolved when I wiped the pod.  I have not attempted to load any music on it or sync my library, so a corrupted file seems unlikely as well. there is no water damage and the case is in excellent condition.  I have no idea whats wrong with it so any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.
