3rd Gen Ipod Will Not Charge on Wall Charger

I have a 3rd Generation non- click-wheel Ipod.
Stock Cords
Never opened up
Dock
No way of charging it on my computer (usb 1.1 and 4 pin firewire)
I recently bought a wall charger, and I plug it in, and nothing happens. I am really anxious to use my ipod (I got it used) but I can't charge it. I have put it on a firewire and I has charged that way. But I have never charged it via usb or through my charger. Is my USB cord broken or is it my Wall charger (or possibly the ipod)? Any help or other ways to charge it under $40 USD would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If your iPod is (dock connector) it will not charge over USB2. Charging this unit requries a built in 6 pins firewire port or the firewire iPod Power adapter

  • 3rd gen iPod will not complete the RESTORE process with new Hard Drive

I have an 3rd gen iPod and I have replaced the hard drive with a newer MK2006GAL. The drive formats fine with a USB cable, formating Mac OS Extended Journaled. It will not complete a "restore" when connected via FireWire in iTunes or with any ipod updater utility. this happens on any mac (we have several). It will not even see the iPod updater when connected via USB and it says MUST CONNECT WITH A FIREWIRE CABLE. It will not format with Disk Utility when connected with the Apple FireWire cable only USB. This is the second new hard drive I have tried. I thought the first "replacement drive" was bad. Turns out it must be something else. Does this sound like a bad battery or motherboard or bad FireWire cable to you? The connectors look fine (under magnification). other problems, while this iPod will not Restore properly, it also will not turn off.
Would like to know if anyone else has seen this trouble.
    thanks.

    Hmm now getting this message.
"The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An Unknown Error occured (1429)".
It still will not format. Does anyone know what a 1429 error is?

  • 3rd gen Ipod will not connect to wifi

It says "unable to join the network ___". I have connected to this network before, a million times. It will connect for 2 seconds then not work.

As long as you are 100% positive you are entering the password in correctly, try resetting your router by unplugging it for about 30 seconds.  It wouldn't hurt to also reset your network settings on your iPod Touch.  To do this, head to Settings -> General -> Reset -> and tap Reset Networking Settings.

"iPod software update server could not be contacted. The Server does not support this version of iTunes." iPod will not turn on or charge or reset settings. I tried plugging it in my laptop, house computer and docking station to charge and nothing. Also, I have all the latest software updates to my knowledge. This is a classic 8GB iPod, running of Windows 7. Any thoughts/suggestions?

only thing that seems to work so far is syncing without photos and also check here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206849?start=30&tstart=0

  • 2nd Gen iPod will not charge in Windows 7 machine.

My 2nd Gen ipod will sync to iTunes just fine, but will not charge.  Windows 7 shows a problem (yellow triangle) in Devices.  I've got the latest Windows Updates, iTunes version, and iPod update.  It works fine with our Windows Vista machines, just not my newer Win 7 laptop.  What is going on?

Is the iPod being plugged into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the Win 7 machine?  Are there any other USB devices plugged into the Win 7 machine? If so, remove them, reboot the machine and reconnect the Shuffle.

  • Ipod will not turn on or charge

Hello there!! I've never done this before so hear it goes...
My ipod (5th generation video ipod) will not respond when I push any of the buttons.
    The hold button is off.
I've tried to reset it but the computer will not reconize it. All the software is up to date.
I would have gone thru all of the 5 R's if I could turn my ipod on.
I hooked my ipod on to the charger with no response.
This situation is sounding pretty hopeless. I hope someone can help and tell me otherwise?
    Help me pretty please??
    Thanks in advance...

    Try these.
    My iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
    My iPod won't wake up.
iPod touch-wheel is unresponsive after waking from sleep.
If none of the above help, it may need service.

  • 4th Gen iPod will not mount or connect to Windows

Hi, one of my iPods will not connect to Windows XP. Its a 4th Gen 40gb non photo iPod
The iPod still plays and works "normally" as a portable device (ie I can play music), but I cannot connect it to my pc at all.
When I plug it in via either USB or Firewire ports the iPod disc whirrs and gets stuck in a loop (that can last over 2 hours plus) before i need to reset it in order to disconnect it from the pc.
When I connect, it doesn't launch iTunes as it should.
It doesn't appear in My Computer.
It doesnt appear in Computer Management>Disk Management
Latest iPod updater cannot read it (even when put in disk mode) and tells me that it can't mount the iPod.
Also, the iPod has since started to mess my PC up - it will not allow the PC to boot up with the iPod connected. If I connect the iPod to the PC with iTunes already launched it causes iTunes to freeze and crash. When I go to restart the PC, Windows will not shutdown.
Getting sick now - any ideas please (besides throwing it out the window!)?
It's weird how the iPod still plays, but it will not connect to the PC when my other 4G 30gb photo and Shuffle will.

I have tried resetting and restoring the ipod before, and I have put it into disk mode too (in order to restore it) but the ipod updater said it could not mount it
However, I did try Deanz advice by putting it into disk mode whilst attached to the mains and then connecting it to the PC has at least enabled me to see it in "My Computer" for the first time as (the "F" drive), even if iTunes is not recognising it.
However, when I attempt to see the ipod in Disk Management I get the same problem outlined above in an earlier post (grey screen).
If I try to browse the iPod via My computer that task freezes. Task Manager claims the function is "not responding"
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Anyway, all my music is backed up so that's not a problem. The iPod works, but I can't update it so it could be worse. Not really sure how to remap the iPod to a different drive letter
[edit] During the process of closing down the non-responsive "My Computer", Windows had a major gimp out and completely froze me out until I reset the ipod an put it back into disc mode (again). Then Windows reappeared in the same state before it crashed. I suspect this is due to some kind of conflict with the iPod as it has done this a few times now since my iPod started acting up (and only when the iPod is connected).
Thinking of some elaborate home insurance claim now..............

  • My 4th gen. ipod will not keep a charge, wont play music and keeps freezing-did full restore/updates already - please help!!

The ipod will charge and allow me to access it/touch screen still works. When you click on an ap it is very delayed accessing. Sometimes music takes a while to show up, other times it freezes altogether.
Started a few weeks ago after it sat in a hot vehicle (not in use) for a few hours and hasnt worked since!

If you still have problems after restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod you very likely have a hardware problem.  Excessive heat will permenently degrade the batter.  I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • 2nd gen ipod will not work or neither of 2 computers will recognize it

My Daughters nano 2nd gen just stopped working, it will not do anything, "froze" up solid as she says.
I have gone through the "5Rs" but nothing will make the ipod show any life and nothing seems able to make the computer see the ipod. I can't do the "restore" option because the computer needs to acknowledge the ipod to complete that step.
I have 2 computers and neither computer recognizes the ipod at all. i have read all the troubleshooting tips, all the tips in the discussions any other suggestions, we are 4 hours away from an "Apple Store"
I am really new to this iPod world, and it appears there is nothing to friendly about it when it comes to this,

I am also having a similar problem when i try to connect my ipod it comes up with the error message "the software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly. please reinstall itunes to install the ipods software."
i ran itunes diagnostics and it said that itunes helper is not running.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes many times doing the full uninstall as outlined on the support page. I have also tried installing an older version of itunes but this did not work either. I checked msconfig and ituneshelper.exe is selected to load at startup but when i check task manager it is not there.
Is there any way to fix this problem. I have been trying for two whole days to sort this. I have tried the ipod on other computers and it works fine so i am certain there is nothing wrong with the ipod.

  • 3rd gen iPod Touch not syncing with iTunes 10.4.1 on Lion?

I've had a 3rd gen 64GB iPod Touch for almost two years now and I've only had one problem with syncing it before. I followed this (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747) and it helped. But since I updated my MacBook Pro to Lion, this article no longer applies and iTunes hasn't recognized my iPod. My iPod does show up in iPhoto though. Everything is fully updated and I restored my iPod using another computer, but even after doing that my iPod isn't recognized in iTunes. Also, my iPod won't go into recovery mode. It shows the connect to iTunes screen but when I connect it, nothing happens. I've tried restarting my computer and my iPod many times and I've tried everything I know.
Now, since restoring, I have nothing on my iPod and I use it every day so any help would be appreciated.

I figured out how to show the hidden files, but even after doing that, the files weren't there.  On the page that you showed me, it says "Note: These steps do not apply to OS X Lion" and since I am using Lion, it didn't work

  • My Ipod will not turn on or charge.

First signs of something not right is that my camera would freeze. I rebooted it and that seemed to have fixed the problem with my camera. But now it won't even cut on. Even when trying to get it to charge the charge indicator won't even show when it's connected to an ac or usb. I've tried to reset and reboot but nothing. I was hoping it was a simple fix with either of those but I'm getting nothing out of it. Any one have this problem?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • HT1695 My 3rd gen iPad will not connect to my iPhone 4S hotspot

My iPad 3rd gen will not connect with my iPhone 4S

Try a reset on both devices. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.
