3rd gen Shuffle Corrupt? What do I do about it?

A message popped up the first time I plugged in my Shuffle saying it was corrupt...What does that mean and what can I do about it? It won't show up in the Sources so i can't restore it. it does show up in my computer, though.

I have the same issue with my ipod - it happened yesterday. It was working fine when I added a couple songs but when I listened to it later in the, it stopped -died. I presumed low battery. Went to charge it using the same dock used that AM to load the songs and it wasn't recognized by iTunes or the PC. I ran an iTunes update, made no difference. I tried other usb to test PC and that is not a problem.
When the Shuffle is powered on, it gives a green light for 3 seconds then a couple ambers, that's it. *This iPod was just purchased 10/31/07.*
I called Apple service (which was excellent for a Sunday AM) and they said to send it back; it's beyond user repair. Can't do any of their suggested troubleshooting ideas if the PC cannot see it. There is no USER FIX for this.
This is very disappointing and a hassle for me. It gives me a negative opinion of their products when I've only read/heard positive feedback.

  • Move music from 3rd gen shuffle to 2nd gen

I want to take the music off my 3rd gen shuffle and put it on my 2nd gen shuffle. How can I copy what is on one and put it on the other?

The music should be on your computer in your iTunes Library. Just sync the 2nd Generation to your library.

  • Volume gradually decreases on 3rd gen Shuffle

I have a brand new 3rd gen shuffle. I have notice something during long runs outdoors, the volume gradually decreases until it is barely audible. Volume button doesn't help. Battery is fine though. When I come indoors after a while, sound returns to normal. This seems to happen when it is cold. Any suggestions?

I'm glad and sorry to find this post.....I had bought a used 4gig shuffle on Ebay/ I was having problems with the volume. I thought that because it was used that it must be problematic, so I bought a brand new one.
    same problem!
by the way, I only use the I-Pod at the gym, and before I even have a chance to sweat the volume is so low, no matter what setting I use. since I like my music loud for workouts, I'm really upset...now I own 2 inferior I-pods. I am not crazy about the volume control on the headphones......but I would'nt mind that much if it worked!
do you think I can get a refund or exchange? this situation is unacceptable. I can't use it at such a low volume........thanks, larrytorre

  • Hi, i want to buy headphones that are compatible with my 3rd gen. shuffle

hi, i want to buy headphones that are compatible with my 3rd gen. shuffle. can you please recommend which to purchase? It appears that you do not sell the older headphones style.

This is a user to user forum. Apple is not here.
for headphones, any 3.5mm headphones will work just fine.
Apple sells the Earpods which should work just fine with a shuffle. And there are also other brands available.
Make sure you choose the wired earphones.  Wireless ones will not work with a shuffle.

No... but there WILL be some which will ONLY work with audio input ports.

  • 3rd gen shuffle

Hi. I have just bought a 3rd gen shuffle off a friend who got it free with her iPhone 5 last year. When plugs into laptop the orange light just flashes once and it doesn't seem to be picked up on itunes. Any ideas?

  • Moving tracks around when loading 3rd gen shuffle

Until very recently I've only used a first generation shuffle, but am now trying to figure out how to use the 3rd gen so that I get the same kind of enjoyment, but with more memory - which is the idea, right?! I have issues with the earphone remote set-up but what I really want to know is how I can move tracks around in the shuffle pane which lists the tracks I've put on there. This was really easy on my 1st gen shuffle, you could just drag and drop tracks into the order you wanted them after loading them. But this seems impossible on the 3rd gen. Say for example I load a playlist and a couple of albums, and then I want to change the order they appear in the list onscreen without having to delete them and reload the shuffle. How do I do that? I often like to keep the same content on the shuffle for long periods of time, but while charging it move some of the content around. This is how I was used to using my 1st gen shuffle and it seems particularly important now that I have to deal with the crappy remote - getting to particular tracks while actually listening is irritating because of all the stoopid clicking you have to do So what I really need is to know how I can reorganise the content that's already on there into a different order before I unplug and play. Very annoyingly, at the moment the only way to do this seems to be to delete all content every time I want to reorganise the order of tracks.
    Please help!! Thanks

    Linda,
No I just use one earbud in my ear. I put the earbud in my right ear--away from the window side and it is also the one with the in-line controls, so that works great. I don't put it on very loud either.
If I am not listening to a podcast and just want to hear music I sometimes will plug it into a line-in cable, but then I don't have a choice on what I am listening to. It's not a real problem because I like all the songs I have on it anyway. I can still adjust the volume on the car stereo, so that is the way I do it.
I am watching closely for any accessories that might allow a headphone splitter to work, but nothing so far. I am sure we will see some useful additions in the near future. And by the way, the earbuds that came with it work great in my ears--never fall out and are comfortable to me.

  • 2d Gen Shuffle Corrupt

I have a new 2d Gen shuffle. I'm trying to connect with iTunes 7.02 on XP Pro Machine. I have two other iPods that work fine.
    I've tried the 5 R's. no help.
When I plug it in, the orange light blinks, indicating that iTunes recognizes it as a device. Then I get an error message that "ITunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore. . . " I click OK. Then: "Are you sure you want to restore. . . ." I click Restore [update is grayed out.]. Error msg: "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod 'iPod.' The requested resource was not found." OK [of course, it's not OK]. I continually get this same loop.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks. Craig

I still have no solution for the corrupt file error message, but I tried plugging the Apple USB cord into a USB 1.1 plug on my old Dell and suddenly everything worked. I had it plugged into a 2.0 USB plug and I got the corrupt message. Using the 5 R's, I tried another 2.0 plug to no avail. I have no idea why I even decided to try the 1.1 plug on the front of the Dell computer instead of continuing to use the 2.0 plugs on the back of the computer, but it worked. All my other devices (camera and Palm) work great on the 2.0 USB plug on the back.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Itunes freezes when syncing 3rd gen shuffle

I have a 3rd generation shuffle. When I plug it into my mac, instead of syncing, I get the "wheel of death" & itunes freezes. The top status bar says - Syncing (Step 1 of 2) Generating VoiceOver messages. I can force quit itunes & eject the shuffle in Finder, but I can't access the device in itunes because the wheel of death won't let me click on it. This is my spouse's shuffle & hasn't been used for about a year, he doesn't know/remember if the VoiceOver is enabled or works or ever even existed on the shuffle. I'm more familiar with my nano ... What can I do??

    never mind, problem solved

  • Anyone heard of this problem before on a 3rd gen Shuffle?

My daughter's 3rd Gen iPod shuffle is acting up...buttons aren't working properly, no apparent liquid damage, but Up Volume changes the track one forward, and Down Volume does nothing.
She only paid $25 for it, but that's a ton of cash for a 7 year old. Since she insists she did nothing to cause this, I am trying to find out if this is a common problem or if there is a solution available.

I would guess some liquid got into the switch, let it dry and see if it works.
I would suggest that you first buy her a pair of these:

  • 3rd gen shuffle not responding

the problem with my 3rd generation shuffle is that when i turn it on the green light stays on for about 10 seconds and after that the orange light blinks 3 to 5 times. the problem is the ipod doesn't respond to any comand. it won't change the song or volume. this problem came up out of nowhere and is incredibly frustrating. please help!

you could bring it into an apple store, and see what they say.
But if I had to guess, I would say your headset is probable bad. I take it you don't happen to have an extra headset to test with?
