3rd gen. wont charge on my computer

Yesterday I received my 3rd generation Ipod. I bought it off ebay and it was just the ipod so i went outy and bought some ear phones and a Belkin USB 2.0 to 30 pin cable for Ipod To charge and sync it. Well This morning my Ipod died from a low battery and when i plugged it in to charge it my computer didnt read it. So i dont know if its chargeing or not. So can a USB charge my 3rd gen. do i just have to wait for a while? and if a USB cant charge my ipod what do i go buy to charge it?

Bought a wall charger. Ipod still isnt charging. Could it be a defective battery? What else could it be?

    Try:
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Faulty port on the computer
If something is wrong with your computer's FireWire or USB port, it may not supply power to iPod. Note: Only iPod mini can get power from a high-powered USB port using the supplied cable.
    Check the connections.
Try another known-good FireWire (or high-powered USB) port on a different computer if available.
If you do not have access to another computer, use the Apple iPod Power Adapter.
Plug in one end of the FireWire cable to the Apple iPod Power Adapter and the other end to your iPod.
Plug the Apple iPod Power Adapter into a working electrical outlet.
If you have an iPod (with Dock Connector) model, connect the FireWire end to the Apple iPod Power Adapter and the dock connector to iPod. Warning: Never plug the dock connector end of the FireWire cable into a computer's FireWire port.
If this resolves the issue, consult your service and support guide to see how you can have the computer's port repaired.

    Try another known-good electrical outlet.
Make sure all the connections are good. Try disconnecting and reconnecting all connections to make sure they are snug.
Try another Apple iPod Power Adapter if one is available.
Try connecting iPod to a computer's FireWire port using iPod's FireWire cable.
If this resolves the issue the Apple iPod Power Adapter needs to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at theiPod Service Website.

    Hi thesquib,
Have you tried connecting your iPod to your computer in Disk Mode? Sometimes if an iPod is in disk mode it will be recognized better by the computer.
    For instructions, see this article:

  • My ipod touch 4th gen wont connect to my computer or charge at all

ive tried wall chargers, idocks (both plural) and plugged it into my computer. it will not charge, and my computer wont reconize it. (its a mac that has worked with my ipod since ive gotten it). It is not the cable , because my sisters ipod (4gen touch) syncs just fine with it. please help! my ipod is my life ! I NEED my music. :'''''''(

If your sister's 4G iPod conect fin to the same computer then tyr the following:
    - Reset the iPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Place the iPod in recovery mode and try to restore via iTunes. For recovery mode:

  • My ipod shuffle 2nd gen wont charge or recognize my computer blinking orange 3x

My ipod shuffle wont charge or cant connect to my computer or detect by iTunes its  just blinking orange 3 times
I tried connect it to other ports same thing happen I tried any possible way but still the same
I use my ipod 2 years I guess and its working fine until I experience this someone experience this same problem please help.

If it's less than one year old, it should still be under warranty.  If you are near an Apple Store, I'd make an appointment at the Genius Bar to see about getting it replaced.
There are two likely possibilities.  The cable used to connect it to USB has gone bad.  Or the connector on the iPod has gone bad.
Be sure to try these things, if you have not already. Use a different USB port on your computer.
Disconnect iPod shuffle and completely shut down (power off) your computer.  Also, use this procedure to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Turn on computer.  Run iTunes.  Connect iPod shuffle.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Gen. wont backup, corrupt or not compatiable, please help!!

I have an issue, running Windows XP and I don't have the location where the backup's are stored on my pc: Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\.  What I do have is the following: Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and I keep getting the same message.  I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can anyone help?
    Thank you!

    Try here:

    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • 3rd gen ipod charger with ipod nano?

I have an 3rd gen ipod and i was wondering if i can use that charger for the ipod nano

Could you tell me if when using the firewire recharge connection to the computor can the comp be in sleep mode or does it have to be active as it does if you recharge with the USB?
Oh, and if any one's a PowerBook user, I'm not too sure what the cables were that came bundled with my PB, but I think one was a firewire, would that be all I needed to recharge my nano through the pooter?
    Thanks

  • IPad 3rd gen not charging via wall socket

Ok I'm really annoyed right now, my iPad 3rd gen has suddenly decided not to charge when plugged via adapter to the wall socket. I thought it was the cables fault so I went into the currys store and bought an apple charger, came home and I have the same problem. When I plug my iPad to the wire to charge the battery sign flashes between between charging and not charging and then I get a message saying maybe this device is not compatible with the iPad and now I just keep getting the message saying "not charging". So I plugged the wire to my MacBook and yay the iPad charges, but its a little bit inconvinient for me and I prefer charging via the wall socket. I've tried everything resetting etc I've even done the software update (ios7.1). Can someone please tell me what's going on, am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated! Oh I've also ordered the apple 12w adaptor charger, do you think this will solve the problem? Thank you

You, say, " I thought it was the cables fault", but then you say, "I went into the currys store and bought an apple charger". Did you buy a charger or a cable?
The problem could be the charger. If so, the new 12W charger should solve the problem.

  • Old Ipod 3rd Gen not charging in usb

    hi,
i have a 3rd gen ipod, wich was sold with firewire cable, i've tried to charge it with an usb cable, but it didn't charged...was it my fault or is it a normal situation?
    thanx

The iPod video does charge over Firewire--however, it will NOT sync with the Firewire cable. A USB connecion must be used to add songs or videos to the iPod.

  • Ipad wont charge wall or computer

I plug my Ipad (1) into the wall or computer and it wont charge --- takes days --- now I dont think it charging at all.  What can I do?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Failure to charge usually is caused by
A bad wall outlet (iPads do not charge efficiently when connected to a computer)
    A bad cable
    A bad charger
If you can rule these out by connecting or using other chargers, cables and outlets and you did the reset me tend able then Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
