3rd generation ipod and macosx 10.5.2
Whenever I hook up my ipod I run the risk of my clock locking-up - apparently there is (or was?) a problem that crashed the User-Interface server. Has this been fixed?
I connected a 3rd gen iPod to a Power Mac G5. It has 10.5.2. Did not experience any problems. It's a 3G iPod, so it was connected via FireWire. 3G iPods were not designed to be fully compatible with USB like later models.

Just restore your old one. This wipes all content from the iPod and resets all of its settings back to its defaults.

If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Please help, I cannot get any apps free or bought, I am able to update just fine and, I can use the apps I already have with no problem. But to be able to install an app. ie, new game recommended by app I already own, is impossible. A few weeks now I have been unable to get any new apps. Why is this occuring and can there be something I can do to fox this without upgrading to 4.0.
Try resetting the device.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. -
So there I was just on facebook page through my iPod when it just shut down. I try to turn it on, but it didn't work. I tried to charge it but it wouldn't charge either. What should I do? What do you think is wrong?

This has nothing to do with this forum but there was nowhere else to post and I though maybe someone could help me out here. I love my color display iPod but the first iPod I had was a 3rd Generation iPod and to be honest, it was so awesome I want another one. Anyone know a good place to buy one? For not too much money if possible. I checked eBay and didn't find much so if anyone else has any suggestions that'd be great.

On the Apple Store main page, navigate down and to the right - you'll see a big red tag which says "special deals".
That's where they have refurbished items.

Can a 3rd Generation Ipod catch a virus?
I have a 3rd generation Ipod and have been downloading music from Limewire. (I now realize this is not a good idea.) Recently, one of the songs that I downloaded and moved over to my Nano popped up in my virus scan as a virus. I have since deleted it from itunes and my ipod but do you know if it's possible for the the Nano to have the virus in it?
It is not really possible. The only executables a third-gen nano can have are games that are built in or purchased from iTunes. Since these are written by well-known, reputable companies and also screened by Apple, there is very little chance they could ever contain a virus.
I guess there could possibly be security vulnerabilities somewhere in the OS that would make it possible to craft a malicious MP3 that can run arbitrary code, but AFAIK no such vulnerabilities have ever been discovered or exploited on an iPod nano.
Since iPod nanos are not connected to the Internet (or really anything else), even if they caught a virus, the worst that could happen is that your nano would get completely erased, in which case you could just sync it back with iTunes anyway. -
I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I recently upgraded to Lion which is causing lots of issues. Aside from that, I went to the Itunes store to purchase books like I have done at least 100 times before with no problems. Now I can by the book and get it to my computer, however when I tried to download the book to my 3rd generation ipod the dialog box informed me that to download any new audiobook purchases I would need an ipod touch. My ipod nano 3rd generation serves my purposes just fine. Why should I be forced to buy something I do not want just to continue something I have always done seamlessly? I know this is more of a rant than a question but I am sure someone else out there has had this happen to them. Maybe you could share your thoughts on how to work around this issue if possible?
I forgot to add the last obvious and crucial step I had taken - plugging a different iPod into my system. It was also not recognized. That was the final proof I needed to determine if the problem was device or system. But now what?

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

There is no way to transfer ipod-to-ipod. Look for a 3rd party program, such as Yamipod, that will let you pull the music from your old iPod to your computer.
You really should be backing up your data on your computer.
