3rd Generation ipod -computer wont support a newer itunes version.....

okay, I am having serious issues! back in July I accepted an update on my ipod and when I did that, it told me that I needed a newer version of itunes, I tried to download it but i got a message that said "iphone and ipod require windows xpservice Pack 2 or later"... i have an old computer, can't get a new one right now & so getting a newer version of ituens seems impossible with my current system....my question is when I connect my ipod it says "The ipod "..." cannot be used because it requires itunes version 7.6 or later.... got to ... etc"... my computer wont support the newer itunes version so is there a way that I can reset the ipod (back to how it was when I purchased it) to where I am still able to use it with the current itunes version that I have on my computer???
(i tried to go to a friend's computer & we goofed & the sync only downloaded the songs that I purchased; (i know-duh) so I've lost over 800 tunes,,, (that are still in my library on my computer but I can't sync it because of the trouble i described above...)
am i making sense?
Can anyone help me? please?? I would forever be indebted to you!
Highest of Blessings...
Seriously Disconbobulated,
Sonia

Why not go to www.microsoft.com and install Service Pack 3 on your computer and then download and install the latest iTunes?

  • HT3951 I have a 3rd generation ipod nano and I recently downloaded itunes version 1.1.3. my computer recognizes my ipod and says it's connected, but it won't sync some new songs I just downloaded. why not?

Why can't I sync my ipod? and where is the newest sync button? there is no more file and sync button anymore.

Are you sure you have a 2G iPod? See:
    Identifying iPod models
A 2G can go to iOS 4.2.1 via iTunes directly if you have iTunes 10.X on your computer.
A 1G can go to 2.2 via iTunes amd 3.1.3 via the link proved already in this discussion.
    Error 1 or -1

my 3rd generation Ipod touch wont unlock and screen is unresponssive  after reset

    - Connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes. First restore from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - If iTunes did not see the iPod, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow you to restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

  • 3rd generation iPod Touch not recognized by Mac & iTunes!

My 3rd generation ipod touch is not recognized on iTunes but is recognized when I plug it into a different computer. I've tried reinstalling iTunes numerous times and have referred to other online tutorials. With no success, my iPod will still not show up on my Macbook, and I've never experienced a problem like this before with either device. My mac and itunes still recognize my iPhone so I don't know why they would recognize one device but no the other. Solutions?
Any feedback will help greatly. Thanks.

It should work fine.  I have a 1st gen shuffle, and it still works...
If you are updating to iTunes 11.x for the first time, iTunes may hide the sidebar initially, which is where the shuffle appears.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the shuffle should appear under DEVICES.

  • HT4972 I have the 3rd generation ipod touch and it is saying that version 4.2.1 is the current version and there is no mention of ios5

Apple says ios 5 works with the 3rd generation ipod but the highest os i have is 4.2.1?!?!?! help!

If 4.2.1 is the latest version, then you have a 2nd gen iPod, not 3rd.

  • Does the 1st generation ipod Shuffle work with the new iTunes?

I was just trying to sync my old iPod shuffle with iTunes 11 and it won't work. Any help?

    Mine works fine...
What do you mean by "it won't work"?  It doesn't appear in iTunes?  It doesn't sync?  It doesn't charge?

  • Computer crashed after installing new itunes version

My laptop just crashed after installing the new 9.0.2 upgrade. Upon reboot I received a dos screen that said my computer shut down due to a recent download and asked if I wanted to reboot in safe mode or normal mode. I chose to reboot normally and the computer would not boot. Now my laptop won't power up at all. Is there anything I can do, or has itunes killed my laptop??

Please help me ! I don't understand why I had to restore to factory settings and then when I tried to re-sync  it kept telling me iTunes is not working. Why ??

  • No Photo tab under source list for 3rd generation ipod nano

I have a 2nd generation ipod nano and recently purchased a 3rd generation ipod nano. I have the latest version of itunes, however, there is no photo tab under the source list. How am I supposed to import my photos?

I am a brand new ipod user and I have not been able to find the summary, music videos and photos tabs. I have gone into every tab up on the Itunes tool bar and poked around but still can't find it. No such page opens up when I connect the nano. Can someone please help?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Itunes is not reading 3rd generation ipod. help please.

ok so here is the deal. i just bought a 3rd generation ipod for my lil sister and itunes does not read it at all. but i have a 2nd generation ipod myself and it works just fine. i have done the 5 R thing and it still does not work. anyone have any suggestions?

Restoring it will erase the songs from your iPod, but not iTunes. It's simply a matter of loading them again from your library.
I think this is your only option.

  • We have some 3rd generations iPod touches that are note syncing with the computer we have. The original computer that the ipods was synced to is gone. We downloaded the itunes to the new computer and logged on as the same account and it won't sync.

An iPod can pn;y sync wiht one iTunes kibrary and the new computer is a new iTunes library:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party probgram like one of those dicussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
