3rd generation iPod nano-why is it restarting on it's own and thinking it's battery is almost dead after I just charged it??

2 years ago, when I got my iPod nano, everything was fine. I never really dropped it, and when I did, it was short distances on the carpet in it's case. In the past few months, my iPod nano has been acting funny. From almost dying after I charged it the whole night or re-starting itself on it's own. Any suggestions on how to fix it, or is it time to trash it?

As for the almost dying problem, this is usually a good indication of a dying battery especially given the age of the iPod.  If you want to continue to use your iPod fully, you'll want to have the battery replaced on it.

  • I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I upgraded to lion. I tried to buy an audio book and download it to my nano like I have done at least 50 times before. Now the dialog box states that I need an ipod touch for the same function. MacBook Pro 2008 w/ m.trac

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I recently upgraded to Lion which is causing lots of issues. Aside from that, I went to the Itunes store to purchase books like I have done at least 100 times before with no problems. Now I can by the book and get it to my computer, however when I tried to download the book to my 3rd generation ipod the dialog box informed me that to download any new audiobook purchases I would need an ipod touch. My ipod nano 3rd generation serves my purposes just fine. Why should I be forced to buy something I do not want just to continue something I have always done seamlessly? I know this is more of a rant than a question but I am sure someone else out there has had this happen to them. Maybe you could share your thoughts on how to work around this issue if possible?

I forgot to add the last obvious and crucial step I had taken - plugging a different iPod into my system. It was also not recognized. That was the final proof I needed to determine if the problem was device or system. But now what?
I truly appreciate any help I can get!
    Thanks again...

  • 3rd Generation IPOD Nano not recognized

I have two 3rd generation IPOD nanos that are not being recognized by 4 different windows XP systems. One of them is a 4G unit that my daughter has been using for at least half a year. It is not being recognized when plugged into the USB. The other one is a brand new unit that is also not being recognized. I have installed and uninstalled the iTunes software and have the latest. I have reset the IPODS. I have double checked the USB drivers and such. Rebooted. The whole bit. The 5 R's +.
On my system at work, they are not recognized either. However, I plugged in somebody else's 2nd generation IPOD nano and it was immediately recognized and happy. So this is clearly some kind of 3rd gen IPOD nano issue and likely some kind of software issue that has recently happened.

Mate i have had this problem for ages managed to sort it with itunes 7.4 but i have the problem again.
It is becoming very frustrating to say the least, and no matter what you say on these forums or the amount of times i have emailed apple i dont get any answer.
I basically have over 100 punds worth of equipment on myy desk which is a waste.
And no one is helping from apple.

  • No Photo tab under source list for 3rd generation ipod nano

I have a 2nd generation ipod nano and recently purchased a 3rd generation ipod nano. I have the latest version of itunes, however, there is no photo tab under the source list. How am I supposed to import my photos?

I am a brand new ipod user and I have not been able to find the summary, music videos and photos tabs. I have gone into every tab up on the Itunes tool bar and poked around but still can't find it. No such page opens up when I connect the nano. Can someone please help?
    Thanks in advance.

  • How can I delete songs downloaded from Limewire on my 3rd Generation iPod Nano?

I have a friend with the 3rd Generation iPod Nano that downloads music from Limewire on her iPod. She does not have an iTunes and wants to erase all the music tracks on her iPod but does not know how. What does she need to do?

Your friend will have to do this via iTunes. All she needs to do is connect the iPod to the computer the click the link to iTunes on the side bar, click "Restore" and everything will be restored to original (factory) settings and all songs will be deleted.

  • HT1435 my 3rd generation iPod nano won't charge

My 3rd generation iPod nano won't charge and when i connect it, it shows up charging then the screen goes black and wont work. Can i get it replaced for a new one? or a different one? What can i do?

    Try these steps listed below.
    1. Run “c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc” (i.e. *Device Manager*), and leave it open for now for later use
    2. Start up iTunes
    3. Next, connect your iPod.
    4. Go to your iPod Settings and select the “Enable disk use” option from under theSummary tab.
    5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you’ll need to manually eject. Go ahead and hit OK
    6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod
    7. Quickly switch to the Device Manager window and right-click on any item within the window and select “Scan for hardware changes”
    8. Finally, switch back to iTunes, and try re-syncing your iPod to see if it helped.
It might not also hurt to trash your iPod's Photo cache if it has one (i.e. you sync photos to the iPod).  See this article for information on where to find this folder on your Windows XP machine.

I would contact Apple directly and have them work with to get the iPod shipped to a new/different address.

  • I accidentally press Off  the Backlight in my 3rd generation  iPod Nano, how can I turn On the Backlight again?

I accidentally press Off the Backlight in my 3red generation iPod Nano, how can I turn it On again? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

What do you mean you turned off the backlight?  How did you do that?
Have you tried a hard reset to see if that takes care of it?  To this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Is it worth getting my 3rd generation ipod nano repaired?

I have a 8GB 3rd gen iPod nano. Today I turned it off and before I pulled the earbuds out of my ears, there was a couple of weird clicking noises coming through the headphones. I thought nothing off it and put the iPod in my pocket. I come back an hour later and the iPod will not turn on. I plugged it into my charger, my iHome, and my Mac and the thing would not turn on. Is it worth repairing or am I better off buying a new iPod? I do not want to send it into some third party repair place to get it checked out. Should I spend money to repair it, and if so, how much? or am I better off just buying a new one.?

Apple won't repair it, but it offers an out-of-warranty exchange.  Depending upon the iPod capacity, the price will be $100-130.  Only you can decide whether exchanging it, or purchasing a new one would be a better choice.

  • HT4972 I am attempting to update the software on my 3rd generation ipod touch using itunes.  I understand I must erase and restore everything first.  Must I do this with my ipod plugged in to my pc?

I am attempting to update the software on my 3rd generation ipod touch. I understand I need to erase and restore my device first.  Must I do this with it plugged into my pc?

All you have to do is connect the iPod to our computer and update via iTunes. You do not have to seperately erase and restore the iPod. That is done automatically as part of the update process.
    To update see:
iOS 4: Updating your device to iOS 5 or later
You need iTunes 10.5 or later on the computer. Y will go to iOS 5.1.1. the last update fopr the 3G

  • 3RD GENERATION IPOD NANO STOPPED WORKING THE SECOND I CONNECTED IT TO ITUNES TO UPDATE MY LIBRARY ... I TRIED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE AND NOTHING IS WORKING ... AND IT WAS WORKING PERFECT RIGHT BEFORE I CONNECTED TO ITUNES ... HMMM.

I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START BUT OR STARTERS LET ME JUST SAY I TOOK GREAT CARE OF MY IPOD NANO 3RD GEN AND THERE IS NO REASON ON MY PART WHY IT STOPPED WORKING... BUT IT DID STOP WORKING AS SOON AS I CONNECTED IT TO MY ITUNES LIBRARY... SO I AM A BIT SUSPICIOUS TO SAY THE LEAST... I ALSO HAVE AN IPOD TOUCH AND THAT'S WORKING JUST FINE. BUT BACK TO MY IPOD NANO 3RD GEN... WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON WITH IT

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.
