3rd Generation iPod Shuffle Not Recognized by iTunes 11.1.1

I am trying to have iTunes recognize my iPod Shuffle 3rd generation.  It worked fine until I downloaded iTunes 11.1.1.  I am using OS X version 10.8.5.  Does this latest version of iTunes not work with my shuffle any longer?

It should work fine.  I have a 1st gen shuffle, and it still works...
If you are updating to iTunes 11.x for the first time, iTunes may hide the sidebar initially, which is where the shuffle appears.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the shuffle should appear under DEVICES.

  • 3rd Generation iPod is not recognized in iTunes or Finder with FireWire

My refurbished 3rd generation 30 GB (used the battery replacement plan) all of a sudden is not recognizable in either iTunes of the Finder when connected to a FireWire port, which it has done many times. However when I connect it with a USB connection it is recognized, but when I go to restore the software, I’m told I need a FireWire connection by the warning windows from iTunes.
    Any suggestions?
Looking at the postings, it appears that other iPod users are having the same problem.

Strange. Both of my Macs are PowerPC Macs running 10.4.10. My Third Generation iPod works fine. The only problem is that when charging it from the wall using the iPod Power Adapter it won't charge to 100 percent. Even after syncing it up directly to either my '17 iMac G5 1.8 GHz or '12 PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz it won't charge all the way. The Knowledge Base Articles I've read seem to indicate that in rare cases the iPod's logic board or Hold Switch may need to be replaced. So far I've replaced the 10 GB hard drive that died with a 20 GB hard drive, replaced the Hold Switch & replaced the Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. I think in my case the iPod logic board may need to be replaced. I originally bought mine refurbished & replacing the iPod costs about $299 according to Apple. Replacing the logic board only costs $65 though if you Google iPod with Dock Connector parts. The link shows up in one of the ads in the right pane of the search results. I really think Apple should recall the Third Generation iPods with defective logic boards. The least they could do is offer a logic board replacement program like they do for Macs.

  • 5th generation ipod is not recognized by itunes, why?

5th generartion ipod is not recognized by itunes, why it this?
    thank you.

    See:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    If it does not charge
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

  • 3rd generation iPod Touch not recognized by Mac & iTunes!

My 3rd generation ipod touch is not recognized on iTunes but is recognized when I plug it into a different computer. I've tried reinstalling iTunes numerous times and have referred to other online tutorials. With no success, my iPod will still not show up on my Macbook, and I've never experienced a problem like this before with either device. My mac and itunes still recognize my iPhone so I don't know why they would recognize one device but no the other. Solutions?
Any feedback will help greatly. Thanks.

  • 3rd Generation IPOD Nano not recognized

I have two 3rd generation IPOD nanos that are not being recognized by 4 different windows XP systems. One of them is a 4G unit that my daughter has been using for at least half a year. It is not being recognized when plugged into the USB. The other one is a brand new unit that is also not being recognized. I have installed and uninstalled the iTunes software and have the latest. I have reset the IPODS. I have double checked the USB drivers and such. Rebooted. The whole bit. The 5 R's +.
On my system at work, they are not recognized either. However, I plugged in somebody else's 2nd generation IPOD nano and it was immediately recognized and happy. So this is clearly some kind of 3rd gen IPOD nano issue and likely some kind of software issue that has recently happened.

Mate i have had this problem for ages managed to sort it with itunes 7.4 but i have the problem again.
It is becoming very frustrating to say the least, and no matter what you say on these forums or the amount of times i have emailed apple i dont get any answer.
I basically have over 100 punds worth of equipment on myy desk which is a waste.
And no one is helping from apple.

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized in iTunes

When I connect my iPod shuffle to my computer, it is recognized as a device (I can safely remove it under "safely remove hardware") yet it is not recognized as a drive. Also, it is not recognized by iTunes and therefore does not appear on the source list.
I am not having any of these problems with my iPod nano which I have tested after having the problems with the shuffle - I have the most current version of iTunes loaded and I am connecting the ipod through a high-speed USB port.
I am unable to restore the ipod software because it does not appear in my iTunes. Currently all of the songs I had on the shuffle the last time I was able to successfully connect it are still there so the shuffle isn't broken completely.
I have read through all of the applicable troubleshooting documents and none seem to specifically apply to my situation (i.e. it is being recognized by the computer as being connected but not as a storage device, etc...)
What should I do? Please help!
    Thank you!
    IBM   Windows XP

Not sure exactly what you mean but here's a shot.
    - Connect shuffle to computer, "safely remove hardware" icon in system tray has it under "USB Mass Storage Device"
    - When I double click on "USB Mass Storage Device" there is an option to stop "Apple iPod USB Device"
I only know this b/c that's the only way I can disconnect it safely since I can't eject it from iTunes.
What I meant by it not being recognized as a drive is that when I connect my other ipod, it brings up a window for "drive E" in windows explorer as well as populates the nano in the source list within iTunes. This does not happen with my shuffle.
    Does that make sense?

  • 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port, 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port

    Hi,
My 2nd generation ipod shuffle will not connect to any usb 3.0 port.  I've tried on to computers -- one Windows XP and the other Windows 7.  Any ideas?

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Late 2009 Mac mini running Mavericks and iTunes 12. When I connected my 2nd generation iPod shuffle it would blink amber once then do nothing. This seems to be a common problem with the iPod shuffle and newer versions of Mac OS X (10.6 and up) and iTunes albeit with somewhat varying symptoms but the same overall problem syncing the iPod with iTunes.
The predominant go-to solution is to give the iPod more power by either connecting the iPod directly to a USB port on the Mac or by disconnecting all other USB devices. On paper this makes sense.
What worked for me, however, was the opposite. After trying to solve this problem for hours (weeks, months), I had success ONLY after adding a low-powered 4-port USB hub to the chain between the iPod and the Mac. I suspect this had the effect of throttling the power supplied to the iPod from the Mac. I was able to perform a restore on the iPod then sync my music over.
I can't tell you much about the USB hub except that it is running at USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mb/sec). In theory a USB 1.1 extension cable should also do the trick. You might even be able to use the USB hub in old wired Apple USB keyboard. I will attach a photo of the hub I used to this post for greater clarity.
    I really hope this helps.

  • 1st Generation Ipod Touch not recognized by Itunes 10.3

Just updated Itunes on my PC to the most recent version.  My 1st generation Ipod Touch is not recognized now.  I get an error message 0xE800000A.  Looking for suggestions.  Thanks!

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized by iTunes on mac

When i plug in my 4th Gen iPod Shuffle this is the error message I receive:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I reloaded iTunes but the problem persists. It works fine on my other Mac using the same cable. I get the Status Light on the Shuffle so the connection and cable are fine.

Apple will not deny the downgrade to OS X 10.10.1 in the App Store. Just make sure your Settings>App Store>Automatically check for updates>Install OS X updates box is unchecked. I did not uncheck mine and last night my MacBook Air was upgraded to 10.10.2 (14C81F), the corrupted update, automatically! I had to downgrade again this morning and Apple again allowed me to downgrade.

  • My 2nd Generation iPod is not recognized by iTunes 10.5

I have a 2nd Generation iPod Touch running on 4.2.1. I recently updated my iTunes to 10.5 but now my device is not appearing in iTunes. My computer still recognizes the device but iTunes does not.

Tried going to another computer but it does not support the Ipod because the itunes on it is not updated enough because the os is os x 10.4 which cannot get itunes 10 on it

  • My new 6th generation ipod is not recognized by itunes or my computer. I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the help guide and the ipod is not recognized anywhere on the computer, not even as an 'unknown device.'

I can't find any answers to this question besides a discussion from 2006 regarding a "SPTD driver installation" with a broken link.  I don't think it's the cable because I can still charge the ipod, but the device is not listed in My Computer or in the Device Manager or anywhere.  The ports work with other USB cables including my web cam.   Help, anyone?

If you uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, did you follow the steps in this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 exactly. Check and make sure.  If you did, then try this support document to get the phone into the Recovery mode. It may take more than one try. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • HT1338 Why does my 1st gen iPod shuffle not recognized by ITunes 11

Why did it take me ten minutes to log into this web site.  The security pass words are rediculous

Apple no longer supports 1st gen Shuffle.  They want you to throw it away and buy the latest gadget from Apple.  Your alternative is to use a PC, which will recognize your IPod.

  • Just updated to itunes 10 and now I can't manually get podcasts to play in my music line up on my 3rd generation ipod shuffle

I just updated to Itunes 10 and now when I drag a podcast to play on my 3rd Generation Ipod Shuffle, the podcasts won't play as as part of the music list.  I know you must add the podcasts manually by dragging them and dropping.  I did do that.  I know that you can only use the Ipod in order not random.  So, it must be a problem with the new software?
    Thanks.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.
