3rd Generation iPod version update

I have a 3rd generation iPod touch(I've checked already), would it be possible for me to update to the LATEST (iOS 5 I think...) version? If so, how?

My newlly restored Ipod wont let me enter the wifi password in order to use the wifi. When you go to the wifi tab, it wont let you click on it and looks white. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

If 4.2.1 is the latest version, then you have a 2nd gen iPod, not 3rd.

After charging the iPod for half an hour, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

iOS 5 is compatible with a 3G (as well as 4G) iPod. However, if you are stuck with 4.2.1 that indicates that you really have a 2G iPod. those can only go to 4.1.2. See:

It had not been used for awhile and most of the songs that were on there were gone when I turned it on. I was trying to sync to update the library.

Weeks, months, years? It's possible your battery is dying. Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

All you have to do is connect the iPod to our computer and update via iTunes. You do not have to seperately erase and restore the iPod. That is done automatically as part of the update process.

iOS 4: Updating your device to iOS 5 or later
You need iTunes 10.5 or later on the computer. Y will go to iOS 5.1.1. the last update fopr the 3G

Just updated to itunes 10 and now I can't manually get podcasts to play in my music line up on my 3rd generation ipod shuffle

I just updated to Itunes 10 and now when I drag a podcast to play on my 3rd Generation Ipod Shuffle, the podcasts won't play as as part of the music list. I know you must add the podcasts manually by dragging them and dropping. I did do that. I know that you can only use the Ipod in order not random. So, it must be a problem with the new software?

3rd generation ipod touch that will no longer sync but charges

I have a 3rd generation ipod touch. It was syncing to my itunes just fine and then one day it stopped syncing. It shows that its charging but never syncs anything. When i click to do a manual sync, it goes through the process but does not transfer any music. Any suggestions. I am running windows 7 64bit if that makes any difference with the newest version of itunes.

On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it.
