3rd Part Menory Causes Fan Failure

Bought my MBP about 9 months ago and shortly thereafter installed a 1G Ram Module from OWC. 2 Weeks ago my Right hand side fan statred making an awfull racket and then dies. Contacted Apple who had me send it to them. Received my computer last nite. Now remember the only thing wrong with this MBP was the fan. The Hardware Test (Short/Long) run from Disk 1 showed only a Fan Problem. No Memory, Mother Board, Etc. I received the computer back with the Main Logic Board Replaced, Disk Drive Slicked, Memory in a plastic Bag. And the MBP is unusable as received from Apple. Screen goes black, locks up, etc. Tried Reinstalling OSX and it would not complete. I sent about 5 hours on the phone with Apple Tech Support on receiving my MBP back in worse condition than it was sent in for. After going around and around with Apple I got a good tech who said it was a definit hardware issue (Others wanted to first buy Apple-Care for 359 or a 49 version) but since its still falls within one year and also 90 day warrenty if Apple Screwed it up I refused. Finally it will be sent back in to "HOPEFULLY" be fixed this time! Anyways, enogh venting and back to the original question; "Will A Ram Module Cause A Failure To A Fan?" Just one fan by the way the left one worked but upon return they said they replaced both. Thanks for allowing me to vent!! Hopefully this is a fluke on Apple Support since I really miss my Laptop right now!!

MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the response. Yes I am or was using SMC Fan Control along with iStat in the Dash for moniotring. I work with a lot of PC's and have built my own from MB and Up. Since I am fairly new to Mac but in all my years I have never heard of Memory causing a failure of a Fan. I could as you said believe Kernel Panics or Programs screwing up or reboots for that matter. My assumption is that they did not like the OWC Memory or the addition of Non-Apple Memory. I also find it hard to believe my Main Logic Board all of a sudden (In the Apple Techs Hands) went bad. I can understand maybe the drive being slicked and fans switched in-pairs. But the rest I find really off the wall. I just hope that they can correct the problems right this time since I have been hyping my MBP since I got it and now this is a real show-stopper for me!

  • Spurious router fan failures?

    Hi gang.
    C3745-ENTSERVICESK9-M version 12.4(10b). ROM version 12.2(8r)T2
This router appears to be generating spurious fan failure alarms. The fan assembly has been changed for a new one, the engineer checked and was satisfied that in a physical functional sense the replacement fan assembly was definitely working, but we now have all 4 fans showing as failed. We are being told that the replacement unit is believed to be part of a batch of faulty fan assemblies and that it was a known Cisco issue. ... Has anybody got any more information on this? *Is* it a known Cisco issue??

3745 is quite an old model what went out of support
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps282/prod_end-of-life_notice0900aecd80444877.html
indipendetly from what the cause is, if you upgrade to a current model like an ISR G2 on which you can have a smartnet contract on it, to get guaranteed support, and peace of mind.

Get CPU FAN Failure warning and shut-down at random startups. it has been thoroughly cleaned as have been the fins. Will boot up afer 2-3 restarts and runs OK rest of day. There are no obstructions or interferences and fan appears to be visually performing at a good speed.

    Windows 7 - 1 TB drive, 8 G RAM  64 bit,

    Hello astrobilia,
Let's start by checking your BIOS settings since you have already inspected the CPU Fan.
This HP troubleshooting article should help us
    Error: CPU Fan Failed
If you are unsure about the CPU Fan settings or you don't see the settings. Navigate through the menus and reset the settings to default.
After resetting the BIOS try booting the computer and monitor the results.
That is the easy fix before we start looking at having to replace parts.

  • Unused IP addresses attack 3rd parties

    Hello,
We are having a strange situation where (used and) unused (!) public addresses belonging to our network attack 3rd parties.
The specific network is as follows.
    WiFi5 -- WiFi6 -- SW11 (CE500-24TT)
    |
    |
    /--- <vlan 2> -- WiFi1 -- WiFi2 -- SW10 (SG300-10) -- WiFi3 -- WiFi4 -- R1 (Router 3640)
    |
    |
    R0 (Router 3825) -- <vlan 1> -- SW0 (C2960-24TT-L) -- SW1 (C2950T-24)
    |
    |
    SW2 (C2950T-24) -- SW3 (C2960CG-8TC-L) -- SW4 (SG300-28)
All the above devices use public admin IP addresses from two fragments of a public Class C subnet which has been split in multiple parts.
Wireless Links WiFi1--WiFi2, WiFi3--WiFi4, WiFi5--WiFi6 are high distance bridges implemented with Motorola equipment.
A part of vlan2 Switches/Wireless Routers remained exposed to the Internet for some days with public admin IPs (i.e. it was accessible from the Internet, whereas we normally prohibit access using ACLs).
I don't know if this was the cause of the security issue we are facing: We are watching (through Netflow monitoring) a high number of outgoing flows, which consist of attacks from IP Addresses of the whole Class C subnet (used or unused!) to addresses abroad (mainly to China), mainly to ports 22, 80, 7000.
The most strange aspect of the attack is that many of these flows originate from IP addresses which are unused! No ARP or MAC entries exist for these addresses.
I thought that hacking to one of the exposed Switches/Wireless Routers might have been the source of the issue, so we blocked access and eventually we shut vlan2 down. Before that, we examined all these devices and we did not find any visible signs of hacking (config changes / password changes / new accounts, etc.).
However, we continued to see the same behavior, until we rebooted SW0 and we are currently see no such traffic, although we are worried that it will start again.
    We have the following questions:
Can someone understand/explain what may have really happened?
We are suspecting that, if Switches have not been hacked, some endpoint (node) may have been hacked and be causing this traffic. Is there a way we can monitor the number of outgoing flows per port on switches, to be able to identify a port (and an associated connected device) that causes the traffic?
Is it possible that a Cisco Switch may run malware? Where/how should we look for it?
Can you please suggest any other actions we should take (investigative commands to run, etc)?
    Can you suggest related documentation?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

We found what was happening and I post here for everyone's reference.
A workstation (running an old version of fedora) had been hacked and was attacking the Internet using IP spoofing. It was automatically using IP Addresses from all the public Class-C network to which its own IP Address belonged.
So, not any part of the network infrastructure had been hacked, but the source of the attack was difficult to locate.
    Regards,
    Nick

  • "Fan Failure" and strange revving noise

    Hi everyone,
*I'm noticing some troubling stuff from my Dual 1.8 PowerPC G5:*
-Console is reporting "Fan Failure" literally every second.
-Persistent high/low revving noise (recording: http://mg.freeshell.org/g5sound.mp3).
-iStat Pro reporting 76rpm slot and 51rpm backside (temp range of 29-37 degrees celsius under load).
*So far, this is what I've done:*
-Tested with Apple Hardware Test and Tech Tool Pro. Both found no errors.
-Checked that all fans appear to be spinning.
-Insured red light on logic board isn't lit.
-Tried to pinpoint the source of noise. Hard to say, but sounds loudest by the dual processors.
    -Reset the PMU.
    -Reset the PRAM.
-Reset the NVRAM (via open firmware).
-Reinstalled OS X Leopard via erase/install; installed all updates.
    *More background info:*
A week before the "Fan Failure," I noticed a BIG drop in speed/performance. I installed more RAM by temporarily moving the front inlet fan and I also cleaned the inside of the machine with compressed air. After this, I noticed the machine lacked the normal revving sound on startup. I reseated the front inlet fan and startup sounded okay, but then the G5 proceeded to freak as described. I removed the new RAM, but problems still persist.
    *Any ideas? Please advise.*
    I'd really appreciate the help.

    Dear Afri,
The only thing I can think of is not a failing fan, but a failing logic board sending the wrong values to the fans (iStat reports the instructions passed on to the fans, the fans do not report back the actual speed).
Although the temperatures seem normal, 76 and 51 rpm for the mentioned fans is far to slow. The slot intake fan of my late 2005 G5 turns at 1500 rpm and the backside fan at 1000 rpm all the time.
Did you check the new RAM in the system profiler, because that also could be the cause of many problems.
I'm sorry I can't provide you with a definite solution.
    Success finding the problem,
    Robbert

  • E4000 Key switch fan failure

I have an E4000 that listed several failures in prtdiag associated with a failed PPS. The PPS in question was not working at all and I have not replaced it. Prtdiag is still listing Key switch fan failure and prom detected failure.
Any suggestion on what might be the cause?

    What I'd like to do:
    Open PowerPoint
    In PPT open a presentation
    In PPT select a slide
Drag it to my 3rd party WPF application
In the 3rd party WPF application drop handler get the slide data (text, background image, etc...).
When I do this I get the DragEventArgs Data (the clipboard data) and it has the 20 supported formats I listed in the 1st post. From these formats #4 seemed like it could have some useful info.

    hi,
RMMR1MRS report when run in background cause update failure errors .
There are few  below reason for the error log.
    1.  for the PO invoice already generated -  (its right if already invoice generated. should not happen again)
    2.  In  MIGO,  entire  quantity has been reversed  and also invoice generated with zero value - ( its right , should not happen invoice again )
    3. Particular PO line item deleted -  (its right if the PO line item deleted. ERS settlement not require)
For the all above reason, the update error occurs.  But the mean time  the program  "RMMR1MRS"  should not through the update error log.
Note: The job was not terminated due to this update error and also no harm because of the error log

  • Need an help to maintain catalog structure for objects parts, defects, causes, activities and coding in one z table

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to create a z table with the same fields repeating for the development in PM module.
I want to have Catalog structure (Catalog,Code group,Code) for objects parts, defects, causes, activities and coding in one z table.Firstly I have created these fields by selecting it from QPCD table. Then as I want the same functionality as it is in IW21 (PM Notification) I created the fields by referring to VIQMFE, VIQMUR , VIQMEL and VIQMMA as in IW21.
    1) However, I am not able to maintain the values.Once I select catalog structure for object parts and then when I am selecting it for defects the search help is still taking the object parts value in it and not allowing me to get the relevant data and also to maintain the data.
I feel the problem is of check table as all the fields are referring  to the same check tables TQ15 , QPGR and QPCD but I am not getting the exact solution.
Please find attach the screen shot of the table I have created and also the error I am getting while maintaining the values.
    Please do the needful.

  • Dv7 6014 fan failure message

Is there documentation on opening a dv7-6014 to replace the cooling fan please? We got the 'detected cooling fan failure - 90? - shutting down in 15secs' during a windows update. Its running now with an external fan on the vent.
Also have a dv7-5003, which has run hot, and  noisy fan all its life - temp now is under 20C ambient, and the left side of the body is almost too hot to keep a hand on it. The 6014 has vents at the rear left, but the 5003 does not...??? Documentation on opening this model please?
    thanks

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - Fan-Failure SNMP-Trap Issue

    Hello,
I am facing the following Prime Infrastructure (v2.1) issue:
    - A Fan-Failure SNMP-Trap from a Cisco 3650 switch doesn't appear on Prime, but a Link-Failure from the same switch does.
    - The both events appears on Prime with Syslog.
    - The command "snmp-server enable traps envmon fan shutdown supply temperature status" is set up.
    - The switch is in "Managed" state in PI, I have checked the ACL at the "snmp-server community" command, it is okay.
    - I have set up an SNMP-Trace for the switch on PI, but only "SNMP Null was returned for class com.cisco.server.managedobjects.bridge.Fan3KStats attribute fanIndex" arrived. Please find the log below.

It seems like PI and the switch doesn't understand each other concerning the fan...
Thanks for any ideas, comments and feedbacks,
    Csaba

I have the very same problem.
The switch has a power supply error (one of the two is down). There is the syslog message in PI about it, but no event has created, so nor alarm is there as well.
When I check the status of the switch in the Device Work Center, and choose the Environment in Device Details I can see that PI has not realized the power supply error.
However when I click on the Sync for this very device the power supply status is updated, but still no event or alarm.
This is the case with the FANs as well.

  • Step failure causes sequence failure Option

    Hi !
I need some clarification about the Step failure causes sequence failure Option , I'm using TS 4.2 Under Win XP .
Lets say i have a Seq with 4 steps in all of then Step failure causes sequence failure Option is Checked .
Record Result in all of the3 steps is Checked , If the first step will fail will it perform the next steps ? and will it record the result for this steps ?
    Thank U .
    Kobi Kalif
    Software Engineer

Record Result in all of the3 steps is Checked , If the first step will fail will it perform the next steps ? YES
and will it record the result for this steps ? YES
What this is signifying, is if a Step fails then when the Sequence has completed and returned back to the caller the status of this step will be FAILED.
If you need to jump to Cleanup then you will need to set the Post Action.

  • Giveing 3rd parties access to message tracking for their messages?

    Hello,
Before I go looking at documentation to see how I would like to find out if it is possible, with Oracle SOA Suiet 11g R1 PS2/3 B2B, to configure the B2B Web Console in such a way that a 3rd party can be given view access to message tracking and/or KPIs for partnerships that involve their messages only?
The purpose of this is to selectively provide visibility to 3rd parties and minimise the effort the hosting infrastructure support needs to go to to help troubleshoot messaging issues.

    Hi Michael,
Now the question on what is the Enterprise Identiry storeAn Enterprise Identiry store is a store which maintains authentication information of all the users of an enterprise and categorizes (or groups) them into particular roles, for e.g. a LDAP system. By default, each weblogic domain has an embedded LDAP server which stores the information of all the users of that domain. The Default Authentication, Authorization, Credential Mapping, and Role Mapping providers of Weblogic use the embedded LDAP server as their data store.
and where do I look to find out how to created the users, the roles and the assignments So if you are working with default Weblogic LDAP, then you have to just create a user on Weblogic and assign it to appropriate group. Then assign a specific role to this user on B2B console (because B2B uses the Weblogic's security framework for authentication & authorization). I have written a short blog on the same which you may refer (here I have added a user in Host TP so it belongs to Host Admin/Monitor, you may perform same steps to add a user in remote TP user's tab to make it remote admin/monitor) -

  • IMac 27" (mid 2010): Will replacing the HD cause fan problems?

    Hi,
I have an iMac 27" (mid 2010). My HD is broken, and I'd like to replace it. I've already installed an SSD, so replacing the HD shouldn't be much of a problem.
However I've read that replacing the HD causes the fan to spin up all the time. Some sites say this started one generation later, but some remain unspecific or say that this problem affects all iMacs. Before I replace my HD, I'd like to know what to expect.
So my question is: in my 2010 iMac, can I replace the HD without causing fan problems (provided I put the temp plug in the right place )?
    Best regards,
    F

OWC is mistaken. I don't know why they keep saying that. (I'm not even certain the OWC blog linked above related to using the same make drive on the late 2009s was ever correct. I had a long phone conversation with an upper level WD tech some time ago who said that the originals were special ordered by Apple.) Those drives have Apple proprietary firmware which puts the temp sensor output to the jumper block, and you cannot just replace with a drive of the same manufacturer. A non-Apple WD drive will not have that connection at the jumper block.
Two possibilities: Get an external stick-on temp sensor that will work with your model or use SSD Fan Control.
    http://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl/
If I'm mistaken and you do get it to work directly with a replacement WD drive I will be pleasantly surprised, since I have a Late 2009 which will need a new drive sooner or later. Please post back with your results.
