3rd party AU plug ins vs Logic Plug ins

has any one got any suggestions of any 3rd party plug ins or instruments that compare or better the Logic ones, i am very happy indeed with what i have at the moment but feel some of the sounds i am getting from the synths are lacking a bit of warmth, maybe i need to dig a little deeper or maybe there are better things out there, obviously the ES2 is a killer piece of software but some of the pads that i am creating are not up to scratch. Is this just me? am i not adding enough plug ins to the synth or is it just not as deep as people say it is? i hear waves are a good too, discuss..............Thanks

3rd party stuff eh?
Spectrsonics makes stellar AU plug ins. Can't wait for the aforementioned atmosphere to come out as UB this fall.
Also mentioned before, Reason is just a fun program that is very powerful and inspiring.
Odd that many people mentioned the NI products. I would, but after getting FM8, I just can't say I am an NI fan.
FM8 sound great! The software is powerfull, the UI is easy to use, the flexibility is enormous, but I can't recall all the setting of patches with Channel strip settings. I was quite disappointed as I wanted to Use FM8 to give me that DX-7 Rhodes sound to use for live gigs, but recalling a performance channel strip didn't load the envelopes, and the sound just didn't work. I emailed NI and asked what the deal was, and they told me it was a bug, sorry. The only workaround they could give me was to load the patch from FM8 it's self.
I still use FM8 for recordings, but never for live use. I also decided not to try any new NI products fearing more incompatibilities with how I work.
NI's stuff does sound great, but with tweaking I can get most of my other synths to match it.

  • Do 3rd party lightening-USB cords damage iPad plug?

I purchased an iPad Air in Nov. 2013 and switched to a 3rd party lightening-USB cord because I wanted a longer cord than what Apple provided. Although the lightening connector fitted into the iPad plug, the plastic holder of the tip was thicker and heavier than the Apple one.  I paid no attention to this difference, but 10 months later, my iPad Air had intermittent charging and data transfer, so it needed to be replaced. I think the extra holder weight led to the tip wobbling in the plug and damaging it. So checking if others have had this experience. I am now using only Apple cords, which now come in longer versions, hoping that the plug will not be damaged over time.

The best cables to use are MFI certified.  Regardless of the brand, if they are MFI certified, they would be held to the same rigid standards that Apples own OEM cable are held to which also happened to be manufactured by third party partners.  Many refer to the certification as the "Apple Tax," because there is a cost associated with getting the certification, but it also ensure that the proprietary, Apple patented, connector parts are being used.  I've seen a lot of non-certified cables and they are often sloppy (bad soldering), fragile and lack the authentication chip to ensure compatibility.

    Hi Kaustubh
The answer lies in how the sales order is closed and invoice is printed when the GR is done.
Please check if it is possible to update the invoice  with the information you want to be printed on the Export doc and Packing slip.If this can be acheived then you print the information out of the invoice without using the delivery.
    Hope this helps.

  • Will my 3rd party plugins be detected by Logic X?

I have logic pro 9 right now, if I uninstall it and leave my 3rd party plugins be and then install Logic X, will Logic X be able to pick up these right away? obviously the 64 bit plugins/instruments.

    thanks for the quick response

  • 3rd party plugins are missing in logic pro x

only a quarter of my plugins are showing up in logic pro x any idea why & how i can get them 2 show up? cause they all work in logic express 9 except for a few that stopped working since i installed maverick osx. any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

It's not because they are outdated 32-bit AudioUnits and Logic Pro X is a 64-bit application?

  • 3rd Party Plugin Text fuzzy in logic 9

I am running EZ Drummer and Stylus and in Logic 9 on my machine the text where the name of the loop is displayed or the type of kit, any basic text, is all messed up and illegible.
Everything else is fine, the samples play fine etc.
Is anyone else seeing this, does anyone have a workaround perhaps?
    Thanks

  • AU Manager Crashes, Standard 3rd party plug-ins not working

I recently had a huge crash, down to the point where I eventually replaced my system drive with a brand new one, and started fresh.
After rebuilding my entire world, plug-ins that used to work, don't anymore - and they're standards that everyone uses (Kontakt 2.1, etc). I can't even get the AU Manager to load.....Logic just sits there forever with "the beach ball of death" untill I force quit.
Nothing "new" has been introduced. I've simply replicated the system I had before down to the T.
    Any thougts?
    I'm on 7.1.1 in 10.4.4
    G5 2x2, LAP 7.1.1, 10.4.2, 4.5 gigs

Try removing all 3rd party plugins and see if Logic works by itself.
Add the plugins back to the components folder one by one, testing to see if they behave.
Sorry to hear about your crash, I have had this happen to me and it was a week of pain.
It really made me wish all plug ins were authorized on dongles, so that something like carbon copy cloner would have saved the day.

  • Sort 3rd party plugins by categories

    Hi there,
If this has already been asked, my apologies, I haven't found an answer to it using the search engine.
Is there a way to sort 3rd party plugins by categories, like Logic's built-in plugs (Compressors, EQs, Delays, Reverbs, etc...)?
It would be much better to search the plugins by category than by manufacturer name, don't you think?
Again, sorry if this is an old question.
    And thanks in advance.

The problem with organising your plugins into channel strips is that it works fine to load the complete channel strip, but obviously cannot be used to load individual plugins on a channel.
I would like to be able to organise/customise my plugin menu in the way that best suits me, including not having to scroll all the way down to the third-party list and so on - I agree that this way of loading plugins is pretty inefficient.
Unfortunately, while this is technically easier using a Mackie Control (because you can scroll through the plugins with a knob before clicking it to load that selected plugin) - it's also next to useless because the plugin list is seemingly random, meaning that each time you scroll to a new plugin, you have no idea whether this is going to be the one you want, or whether it will take another 53 knob turns before you get there.
The library is supposed to be the redeveloped solution for this, and while it helps to a degree I actually don't like wasting a quarter of the available screen space having it open, or hitting a key command to open and close it just to load plugins. But you can't load individual plugins from the library anyway - it's either channel strips, or plugin settings/instruments. There is no way to highlight the plugin slot and then see your plugin list - so we are back to the navigate through four sub menus dance to load a plugin.
So none of the current methods are particularly good, imo. I'd like to see something better. At the very list, a menu list of "Favourite Plugins" at the top of the menu list which you could organise and choose which plugins should go in there.

  • How to PERMANENTLY get rid of 3rd party Plug-ins in Logic pro 9.

Hi, im trying to get rid of some 3rd party plug-ins on logic, but it only looks like i can disable them. (sweeping them under the rug isn't helpful) This is a problem because i have one version of a plug-in that doesn't work and im gonna get another of the same version (with expansions) to replace it so im concerned that the 2 versions will conflict with one another and i wont get the expansions i payed for. Anyone have a solution to permanently get rid of plug-ins? -Tim

The component files of the third party plugins are in:
    Local Drive\Library\Audio\Plug-Ins\Components
You can make a backup of a given component (say in a desktop folder) and replace the component with other version etc.
You can use [Pacifist|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/mac/12743] as well to install/extract a component from a given installation pack etc.
Edit: Sorry Immo I duplicated your reply solutions hitting posting a few sec. later...

  • Using native Logic OSC support with 3rd party plug-ins & new touchOSC maps

    Hi All.
Now that logic from 9.1.2 has native OSC support, I wandered if anyone has used it succesfully with their own customised touchOSC maps?
I'm not so interested in using touchsc as a transport/mixer for logic - which is what the default logic map that comes in touchosc s focused on, but more to control a few 3rd party plug-ins inside logic (FXPansion Geist & Strobe) - which would mean I need to create my own maps. It doesn't seem clear however if or how you can edit or use touchOSC maps which use the native OSC support bult into Logic
Anyone had any joy with this, or able top shed some light on possibilities & limitations?

For now they are OSCulator reliant, and that has some advantages: primarily that the user can easily remap anything that doesn't suit their needs. I've been using these for weeks and the combination has been rock solid so I wanted to go with it rather than wait for (and learn) the SDK.
The best part is that these bundles will include everything you need, including custom Kontakt multis, VSL matrix files and of course the OSCulator mappings - and building those may have caused carpal tunnel syndrome! Talk about a mammoth task... Anyway, the goal is for it to be an easy plug & play experience.
Trying to wrap up today or tomorrow - just waiting on some website reorganization...
    Stay in touch!

  • Logic 9 no longer recognising 3rd party plug ins

Without any change to OS or software versions, Logic 9 has decided not to recognise any of the 3rd party AU plug ins that have been working perfectly in all projects ... until today.
    How do I fix this?
    I'm using:
Logic Pro 9.1.1 (1697.53) in 32 bit mode
    OS 10.6.4
    Novation Automap Pro 3.5
On starting Logic, a notification window tells me
Logic Pro: Plug-in "Battery 3 ("Not available
Logic Pro: Plug-in "FM8 (Autom" ("Not available
Logic Pro: Plug-in "Kontakt 3 ("Not available
Logic Pro: Plug-in " Massive ("Au available
Logic Pro: Plug-in "Ozone 4 ("A Not available
Logic Pro: Plug-in "Predator ("A Not available
Logic Pro: Plug-in "Predator (" Not available
    Logic Pro: Plug-in "Sylenth1 ("A Not available
Logic Pro: Plug-in "Sylenth 1 ("Not available
If you have a definitive answer, I'd love to hear it.
    Cheers.

I think logic is missing your Auto-mapped synths all of a sudden.
It happened to me with Predator just now.
After Automap was updated to 3.5 I got the same message.
Rescan with the Automap Plugin manager without Logic running and see if the plugins are available.
Tick the boxes of all the synths Logic expects to see auto-mapped, press OK, close Automap Server and restart logic.
Now Logic and Automap Server are started in order.
If the plugins are not available you can also try to move the AU components that are mentioned to another location on the drive.
Start logic, on your Channel Strip the names of the synths will be crossed out because you moved them.
Close Logic and Automap Server, move the AU components back to their original location and restart logic.
If I am correct they should be rescanned.
After this, scan with the Automap Plugin manager.
Check the boxes and tick the boxes of the plugins Logic expects to see Auto-mapped and restart logic again.
It is a lot of restarting I know, but the goal is to flip that bit in the software that is giving all this hassle.
I hope this works for you, It worked for me on logic 8.

  • How do i import 3rd party VST plug-ins into Logic Express 8???

I downloaded some vst plug-ins for logic express online somewhere and the instructions to install them says to go to library/audio/plug-ins/vst and to just drop them in there. i do that, but then when i drop them in there and then start up Logic, they're no where to be found in the program
is there another way you are suppose to import vst's?

You can't use VST plugins straight in Logic. The format recognized is AU (Audio Units) but there is a workaround using a program called VST to AU Adapter.

  • 3rd party plug-ins are not displayed in channel strip audio unit insert

I have successfully loaded several 3rd party plug-ins (Wave Masters and IK multimedia Studio Bundle) into my MacBook Pro. The files are shown in Library>Audio>Plug-ins>Components, in User>Downloads, and they appear in my Audio Unit Manager (for each the box is checked for access from Logic Pro). Yet, when I go to a channel strip to launch some of the plug-ins, the product does not show up under audio units. How do I get these plug-in files to the insert list for my audio channels? Unfortunately, I need to launch these plug-ins in order to authorize them with the vendor. I must be missing a key step, but I have not had this issue before with other 3rd party plug-ins. Thanks for any direction.

Also, I know in the case of my IK Multimedia Classic Studio Reverb, it will NOT be available from within my 3rd party plug-in list, on a MONO channel.
I need to be opening the list on a stereo track (or stereo Aux), in order to be able to select those plug-ins.
See if it's something that simple...

  • 3rd party plug-ins/DSP

My head hurts. Why does my head hurt? Because I've been banging it against a wall for the last few days trying to figure out whether I need 3rd party DSP or plug-ins. So, I'm new to LS. Just bought it on the 11th with my spiffy new Macbook Pro 15" C2D 2.4GHz. I bumped up the RAM to 4GB too. Overall, I have to say that LS looks pretty darn comprehensive. I'm an old skool engineer used to working on real H/W (Neve, SSL, Trident, etc....) I've been evaluating things like T.C. Electronics' Powercore, Universal Audio UAD-XPander, Focusrite Liquid Mix, Waves, etc.....So, my questions are as follows: A.)Do I even really need external/3rd Party DSP? B.)Although the UAD looks cool, doesn't look like it's got much horsepower. C.)I've heard fantastic things about the Waves plug-ins as well, but will they suck up a massive amount of CPU juice and leave me out in the cold when trying to mix? and lastly D.)Has anyone used Liquid Mix with LS? I heard the Firewire latency is less than pleasant.
    Thanks,
    -Laurence

I'll try to answer your questions:
    1) Apple tries to make Logic the only program you'll need for recording, editing, and mixing. They attack all the big plug ins with some variation, that is pitch correction is added so you wouldn't have to buy Antares or Celemony. That being said often the plug in is all a company really does, and thus they do it better. But they are not inexpensive. My off the cuff advice would be to get to know Logic very well and only spend money on areas that you find it to be lacking for you, that is, don't rush out to buy an inexpensive convolution reverb and find out Apple had a great one all along. That's actually what made me get Logic- I couldn't find a good reverb at a price I could live with. (I'm poor as the dirt.)
    2) Waves makes a great plug in, and if you can afford it, go crazy, you'll find you use them. However you can demo them, or at least the reverb. They are fully functional and stop working after a certain period.
    2) UAD is something I have to say I don't know anything about first hand. I've heard mixed things but that's all you ever hear really. I want to know myself how much actual processing power they add, I've heard 1 GHz but then I've heard other numbers too. Do you know they only work with their own plug ins? So if you don't end up liking those, which seems unlikely but still, you're stuck. But another way Logic can use extra processing power is with a "node", that is, another Mac with ethernet capabilities. If you do some serious mastering with your laptop, and your plug ins are draining you, you can farm some of that out to another computer. The Mac mini is what I'm sort of considering for that should I ever end up graduating from school and making some god **** money. And later turning my G5 into a slave to whatever Apple blesses us with in the form of a G6.
I hope any of this was helpful and good luck!

  • Problem with 3rd Party Plug-Ins

I am running Logic Pro 7 and recently a majority of my 3rd party plug-ins quit working. When I try to load the plug-ins or open a song that uses the plug-ins, Logic unexpectedly quits. Some of the plug-ins that cause the problem are:
    Spectrasonics Trilogy and Atmosphere
    Plugsounds PS01-06
    Ueberschall BPM120 and PLP120
    Native Instruments Kompakt
This has happened before, but for some reason within two or three weeks, they just magically started working again. I could use an update on my OS (10.3.9) and some updates are available for the plug-ins, but why wouldn't everything continue to work as it had if nothing has changed? And is this absolutely necessary because I'd rather not because I'd have to update everything.

Did you update or change ANYTHING on your system? I've learnt that once I have a stable system, DONT upgrade unless you HAVE to, as updated plugins are designed to work on the most recent software, and sometimes dont get tested and/or work with "older" systems.
However, if you have not changed anything and are getting these problems, the most likely cause is either song corruption (though you said this is happening on multiple songs, so I doubt thats the problem) or preference corruption, which happened to me just a few months ago. Dont ask me how things get corrupted, but when they do you start to experience random weirdness. For example, recently all my songs stared giving me "memory errors" on stuff that use to playback fine. Once I rebuilt my preferences, every was stable again.
Here is a link to troubleshooting tips created by Bee Jay (a wise poster here). Follow them and they should fix your problems:
    http://logicquicktips.blogspot.com/2006/10/troubleshooting-logic.html
Note: if you created any custom key commands for logic, do not trash your old preferences, as you can import your key commands from this file. Check your manual under import key commands. Here is a link to the PDF of the manual, which is easier to search:http://www.apple.com/support/logic/
If you want to turn off your plugins just to see if they are at fault (though it sounds to me like song/prefs corruption, not plugin problems) use the AU
manager. I'm not in front of Logic right now, but I believe its under either the apple pulldown menu, or the file menu, or one of the other menus "up top."
(sorry for my bad description). If you still cant find it, let me know and I'll look it up, but as I said, this sound like a corruption issue and not an issue with your plugins.
    Best of luck!
