3rd party Backup Software ..

HI,
We are on APPS 11.5.10.2 & DB 10.0.2.0.4
As per my knowledge .. If we are using Tape drive .. we require a MML .. like Veritas etc .. this softwre uses RMAN untility to take backup ... If suppose am using Disk drive to take backup.. is that necessary to go for veritas or any other soft .. or we can manage with RMAN utility.
Why we need to use 3 rd party tool for TAPE? Ex- Veritas ...
What is the advanatge by using 3rd party tool if we are using Disk to take backup?
Thanks

Hi,

If suppose am using Disk drive to take backup.. is that necessary to go for veritas or any other soft .. or we can manage with RMAN utility. It is not required as you can use the OS command to take the backup from the disk to the backup drive.
Why we need to use 3 rd party tool for TAPE? Ex- Veritas ...There are many features that are available of those software which can be used and the standard OS backup cannot provide.
What is the advanatge by using 3rd party tool if we are using Disk to take backup?Refer to the software documentation for details about the feature the software provide (or ask the backup software vendor and the sales person should be able to answer your questions).

  • 3rd party backup for EBS

    Hi hussein,
Have you heard about 3rd party backup software that caters all kinds of apps and databases? It is working on the O.S. side
and does not interacts with RMAN. I am just wondering how can it be effective or reliable without using RMAN?
Are 3rd party OS backups supported by Oracle?
The name of the software is ecostream and its kinda cheaper backup solution. Something like 8,000USD.
Your comments is very much appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,
    Ms K

    Hi,
What I mean is it is not same sa veritas, Is is a disaster recovery software. It copies the apps and db folder to another
server using OS copy then they can open the EBS at the other server just like Oracle DataGuard.Does it simply copy the files and let you open the application/database on the target nodes with no additional setup? I suspect there is any software in the market that can do this as there are other steps need to be followed before and after copying the application/database tier files to have a Data Guard.
They also use veritas for backup purposes but no RMAN. Have you heard something like this? This is possible (RMAN is mainly required for hot database backup).
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Third party backup software, how is the log sequence working?

Me and a colleague had a discussion about how third party software and full backups locally on the SQL works together.
If we use TSM that do full backups and then logbackups every hour in between for example.
If I between the two full backups from TSM accidently do a "non copy-only" full backup do I then also break the whole log sequence backup from then and untill the next TSM backup is?
Or can I use the full backup from my mistake and then take the log backups from TSM that occured after that fail and restore the database?
I guess this depends on the third party backup software, but in my mind it should work but according to him it doesn't.
Try to "paint" how I mean:
    I = full TSM backup
    - = log TSM
F = my fail backup full but not copy only.
    I---F-------I
^ is where I would want to restore with both my full one and the logs from TSM. Hope you understand what I mean.

yes, you should be able to use the full backup taken in middle and use the rest of the log backups taken afterwards to restore the database.while I do not use TSM, we use QUEST(DELL) LITESPEED, that takes full backup once a day and log backups
    every 15mins.
if someone accidentally takes full backup in the middle of day with out 'copy only',
log sequence will break and successive log backups depend on this full back up.
while this should be prevented from happening in first place, you can still restore from native full backup and then apply log backups taken from third party taken after the  native Full backup.
if this happens, I would restore the FULLBACKP with NORECOVERY using NATIVE SQL and then use  lite speed syntax to restore the log backups.Remember, native sql cannot read third party formatted backups(atleast litespeed), thats why I restore the full backup
using native sql, since it was taken with native sql backup and log backups using litespeed syntax.
    Hope it Helps!!
Thanks, well it was just a theory discussion we had about the issue. But none of us could find info on the internet easy to prove our point :) Thanks.

  • How do I get 3rd party photo software to work when logged in as myself?

As someone who works with expensively in photography, Aperture is one of my main software programs for processing photos, Now, with Apple apparently no longer supporting Aperture in the near future, I need to find a replacement. I have spent years avoiding anything made by Adobe except Reader, but bit the bullet and purchased an out of the box (not monthly rental) version of Lightroom, When I opened it after downloading, it didn't work. I kept getting an error message about the modules not changing properly.  After searching for an extended period of time for how to contact Adobe tech support by phone, I was left to attempt to find a fix through their support community similar to this one. I received a couple of emails that attempted to help, but none of them worked, or allowed me to use the program at all, until it was suggested I log out and then log back in as another user to see if that works.  So I did that and redownloaded the software as the new user and it worked perfectly.
But when I logged back out and then back in as myself, I was back to the same issue as before and I still can't use it as myself. This is highly problematic, given the number of photos I have access to when logged in as myself. Besides, I want to be me, not a different person.
Is there anyone out there that can give me a "For Dummies" explanation of how to get the stupid software to work as myself instead as someone else? I already tried several times to uninstall and then redownload the program, but that didn't help. (God, I hate Adobe software!)
Thanks for any assistance you can give.

    Frank:
You make good points. Please allow me to make a couple myself:
    1. I am a serious photographer. And the first place I go with my RAW files is Aperture. I love Aperture. I also understand that it's not going away, so I will continue to use it. But if all the articles appearing in photography-related publications are correct, it eventually will be far behind newer versions of other photography software. It would be similar to something like if all my friends were using Mavericks OS, but I continued to use Panther OS. They would be far ahead of me in ability to do terrific stuff. Should the prognosticators prove correct about Aperture, then I will eventually need a replacement to stay current. In reading a plethora of articles, many of which were comparative from one photo app to another, I reluctantly decided to go with Lightroom. I dislike Adobe, hence, my reluctance. But it seemed the best of a series of poor replacements for Aperture. I didn't want to pay Adobe an annual fee equal to the cost of a single out of the box Lightroom product, so I did go out of the box in this instance. And my thought is that while I will continue to use Aperture for the near future, it might behoove me to practice on Lightroom so I am familiar with it if I eventually abandon Aperture.
    2. Your second point is that this is an Apple forum, not an Adobe forum. Point taken. I have always gotten terrific assistance when I come here for help. I went to the similar community in Adobe and the responses I got there were not as functionally helpful as what I usually get here. And since it seemed that it was eventually found to be a user issue, rather than a software issue, it would seem that a community of Apple users would be of more assistance than a community of 3rd party software users. So I came here. And what do you know? It seems that the information I received here was far superior/helpful to what I got over there. It turns out my faith in the Apple community was well-placed.
When I get back home from work this evening, I'm going to take the info I received from Leonie and yourself and attempt to resolve my user issue. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

  • Third party backup software support for dataguard configurations

Any Oracle document about the subject?
I would be interested in an answer about backupexec 2010 r2 in particular, because reading the manual for its oracle agent there is information about Oracle/RMAN and RAC support, but nothing about Dataguard integration, that could be a value added.
Anyone using third party backup agents in a Dataguard configuration?
Interested in version 11gR2 on Linux.
    Thanks,

  • Third-party backup software

    Hello,
I have just read that you can restore Windows 2008 to a different hardware, like Windows 7.
I was wondering: Is there the need of third-party software anymore?. I mean, you just backup the whole system in a network share or a san volume or elsewhere (outside the 2008 box), and that is that, no Acronis anymore.
Am I missing something?. To me, it looks so great.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Luis,
We can use bare metal restore process for windows server 2008 to restore it on dissimilar hardware.
Using inbuit windows backup admin console it is possible to restore windows 2008 or windows 7 on a different hardware, however for windows server 2008 you need to be cautious about the scsi/raid controller drivers.

  • Third party backup software help.

    Hi!
I have zero computer skills and want to backup two virtual machines at my office.  I created an Azure account and set up a backup schedule to a "backup container" at Microsoft.  Went online and some said it is cheaper to store data in
a "storage container" as a  BLOB, and will save $10. per month and will only cost $.024 per Gig.  They recommended a third party like Cloudberry to configure the backup process and manage the storage.  Does anyone (not affiliated with
the companys) have any advice on which product works well and is as idiot (me) proof as possible?

    Hi,
You can use the Following link with the Video which guides you through on how to setup Cloudberry with you Azure account and setting up a storage account and container.
Once you have done that, you can follow the Backup wizard in Cloudberry to create the backup.
      http://www.cloudberrylab.com/windows-azure-server-backup.aspx
      Hope this helps.

  • Installing 3rd party backup client on 7310 with Fishworks

    Greetings!
I am, admittedly, brand new to the Unified Storage platform. In fact, I don't even have the hardware fully up and running yet. However, one of my requirements for this system is backup. The backup solution at our institution is provided by Tivoli. My question is thus:
Is it possible to install a third party application that performs network backups on the Fishworks system? I've heard from product engineers at Sun that by doing so, we could potentially violate licensing agreements. I do know that they (Sun) don't generally allow the users to root these Fishworks systems. Anyone have any experience with either rooting the Fishworks box or installing third party apps?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Kermit Short

These storage appliances support the NDMP protocol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NDMP).
There is support for this in Tivoli too.
This probably would be the easiest solution without the need to mess with the warranty.

  • What is the best 3rd party dvd software

I want to have video files as well as downloadable content like mp3's and pdf files. I may need to burn a two sided disk

    Hi
Then there is no option to iDVD for not really big Pro Companies. Really.
Roxio Toast are a great tool
DVD-Studio Pro (if You can obtain a second handed one - and LEARN to master it)
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
    Fairly good resulting Video-DVD
    • Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
(very simple - Quality ?? not sure - looked problematic reg. Interlacing)
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Mac Mini DVD issues with 3rd party player software

New to the forum. I have a Late 2012 Mac Mini with 16GB RAM and 256 SSD (Crucial) fitted and the latest version Yosemite OS. I get a slight jerkiness when playing DVDs from an external Panasonic UJ265 USB3 Blu-ray drive using either Aurora or Macgo software, however Blu-rays play fine and the jerkiness disappears with Apple's native DVD player. Any ideas what might be going on? Many thanks.

I'm having a similar issue as well with my Mac Mini (Macmini 4,1) connected to an HP LP3065 via the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adaptor. I also have a Dell 2407WFP connected via the the HDMI->DVI connector:
    Summary:
When the Mac Mini wakes from sleep, the display for the Dual-Link DVI connection is set to the wrong resolution and cannot be modified in System preferences.
    Details:
In my case, this manifests as a blank screen and flashing green power led on the HP, which is how the it indicates the display resolution is set to something other than 2560x1600. The Dell still wakes up, but is now in Mirroring mode. At this point, Displays system preference shows a generic "Display" with a resolution of "640x480", plus the HP2407, with no option to change the resolution for the generic Display)
The only thing that seems to fix the problem is restarting the Mac Mini.
This seems to happen about 30% of the time the Mac Mini wakes from sleep. The rest of the time, everything works fine. It's extremely annoying.

  • Where could I download Adobe Acrobat 6.0 (we need to for compatibility with a 3rd-party custom software package)?

Please send me a pointer to a download site. Thanks in advance.

acrobat 7 is the oldest available unless you find something public on the adobe ftp server, ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/

  • USB Sync with 3rd party Software

Seem like Verizon is determined to press using it's restrictive syncing technique with MS Outlook.  I guess they still want to compete with Outlook.  There is an issue with USB sync with the Droid X.
Android OS 2.2 supports TETHERING, but Version does not.  By allowing tethering, 3rd party software can sync with the Droid X via USB.
Why is Verizon restricting a feature so many business users want?  To compete with Apple, Verizon should wise up and support its user communit to allow easy syncs with Outlook (Contacts, Notes, Calendar) at the subdirectory level.  Business people will not post their sensitive information on the Google site in order to sync with their phone.
Wise up Verizon!  You are missing an opportunity in your battle with Apple!

    Hi Nitsan
You need to contact Oracle to see if they can help you. Supporting a Discoverer installation without a support number (CSI Number) is not the right thing to do. You need to pay up and buy the necessary support so that you can get the help you need.
Having said that, Oracle do produce lists of certified operating systems and platforms etc and you will not have a lot of luck if you go outside those boundaries. I'm not saying that you have but usually if their product works on one platform but not on another it is usually something at the platform end that is causing the problem. In this case the first place I would look is to see whether there are any settings within the 3rd party security software that can be applied to tell it that anyone running Discoverer inside IE is allowed to do so.
It may be as simple as allowing JInitiator to work. You may also want to try using the Sun JRE instead to see if that helps.
I strongly recommend you buy a support license. You can buy these relatively cheaply and they can be purchased in groups of I believe 25 requests (could be a different number) thus keeping the cost down. If you yourself are an independent consultant you can buy your own support license and use that to get help for your clients.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Link between 3rd party software and SAP

Our company uses a 3rd party software for its payroll processing.  At the end of every 2 weeks, we receive an Excel file that the clerk sorts and uploads into SAP using LSMW.
The Director of Finance thinks that this process can be achieved much quicker/faster/more efficiently, and he wanted to know if we can directly establish a link between the 3rd party payroll software and SAP.
Any thoughts on how this can be established?  Do I have to write a BAPI functional specification for this and work with the ABAP team?
Thanks in advance for all your help.
    Regards,
    Vijay.

    Hi Vijay,
Through BAPI / BDC / Idoc you can achive this requirement.
    Ex:
    1 - Create Landing Table in R/3
2 - Pull Data from Leagacy to SAP Landing Table
3 - From Landing Table you can post to SAP

  • Can I use a USB camera with the 3rd party USB camera software and share screens?

I want to do more than just use a USB camera w/iChat (or ichatusb).  I also need to be able to initiate screen sharing between two computers.  Specifically, I will use iChat with an insight built in camera on my end, and the other person will be using an iMac G5 PPC using a USB camera and the 3rd party USB software for USB ichat support.
My question then is am I able to request screen sharing (taking over their screen) from my ichat/fw combo to their ichatusb/usb combo?
    thanks
    dc

    Hi,
The Cameras don't come into this at all.  (But iChat and OS versions do)
Each end needs iChat 4 or higher.
Go to the Video menu and Enable Screen Sharing (Selecting toggles a tick On and Off (Tick Present is ON) )
Highlight Buddy in list and use the Screen Sharing icon at the bottom of the list (interlinked rectangles).
The G5 could be on Leopard (iChat 4) and be using a  USB 1.1 camera that would need iUSBCam (formerly iChatUSBCam) as well as the Camera manufacturers Software.
iChat 3 (In Tiger OS 10.4.x) on the G5 with a USB 1.1 camera, Software and iUSBCam may well offer a Screen Sharing option (Or rather Desktop as Video Feed) in the iChat > Video Menu  and that will not work
However if the G5 has USB 2.0 ports (not the Keyboard additional ports) then if it is up to OS 10.4.9 it can use a UVC Camera for Video Chats  (UVC = USB Video Class No need for Additional Drivers) but Screen Sharing will still be an issue due to the iChat version.
IF the G5 is still on OS 10.4.x then you will have to use a third Party VNC app at both ends (And run a iChat Audio Chat along side)
