3rd party batteries

I am wondering what people here have used for replacement batteries, I have a 4th gen Ipod color that needs a battery. I have found them online in the range of $15 to $50, and the shipping usually is between $20 to $30. Prices vary depending on the battery output. Ebay also has a ton of these going VERY cheap, has anyone used the one's off of ebay?
Out of curiosity I contacted an apple service store in the nearest city from me, for $115 they send the unit to Apple and you get another unit of the same model back, they don't just replace the battery. A bit steep but it also comes with a 90 day warranty so..

After-market self-install batteries have been successfully installed by many who visit here.
It's a matter of how good you are with small, detailed tasks, your patience, and maybe a bit of luck.
I would do it if/when my warranty runs out and I need a new battery.

  • 3rd party batteries on VIXIA

I ordered an extra battery with my VIXIA HFG10 because the one it comes with does not last long enough.  However the extra battery I received is a 3rd party battery and it WILL power the camera, but shows me a message that it cannot communicate with the camera.  That means I cannot know how much time I have on the battery before it needs recharging. Is this something I just have to live with?  Or is there a firmware update that will communicate with my spare battery.
    Thanks

    Hi stahld!
Welcome to the Canon Forums, and thanks for your inquiry! Canon does not support third party batteries since Canon can't control the quality of battery that other companies produce. Our batteries are "smart" batteries that communicate with your camcorder so that it knows exactly how much charge is remaining. It seems that your third party battery does not support this communication and this could be why the camera shows the error message. We recommend only using Genuine Canon batteries for this reason, and for the safety of you and your camcorder! You can learn more about using third party and counterfeit batteries here: http://bit.ly/CanonCounterfeit
    We hope this helps!

  • 3rd Party Batteries for MacBook Pro      (MacBookPro5,1)

Howdy! I need an extra battery for my MacBook. I see some pretty crappy reviews for the Apple brand, and am considering going to a 3rd party.
Does anybody have any advice as to which one to go to? (I'm looking at macsales...OWC computing, but have nooooo clue.)
Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Brad (in Denver)

As far as I know Apple don't make the batteries, a 3rd party does so the quality from another 3rd party might be just as good/bad. Unfortunately in the last few years quality control in the battery manufacturing sector doesn't seem to have been as good as we users would like.
You will read the problems people experience in the forums but not the vast majority situation of good experience. I think Apple are prepared to replace the small percentage of batteries that fail, if only for the good PR this brings.
It is a good idea to have a second battery if you are fairly dependent on significant battery usage between charges. Check the internet for other suppliers, and their warranty if any, and then make your decision.

  • 3rd party batteries for Mini 2nd gen

I need a new battery for my 2nd Gen Mini. I've found a great deal on ebay, but I'm a little nervous about 3rd-party stuff. What do you think?

Is this worth trying? What does "non-OEM" mean?

    Hello Daboa,
I can tell you what non-OEM means, but I cannot offer any advice regarding the 3rd party replacement battery you provided above. I suggest you do a bit more research online to see what others have had to say about it. Otherwise, try and look elsewhere for replacement batteries. There are several third party repair companies that will offer the parts and service to replace the one in your iPod mini.
For more help and information regarding battery replacements, see this older post of mine.
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10821733
Basically, non-OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) means that the product was not sold by the original manufacturer of the product, but instead by a third party company. So the battery you would be buying above would be a compatible battery, but it just will not be from the original manufacturer.
    Hope this helps.

  • 3rd party wall charger to charge apple batteries for peripherals.

does anyone know a good 3rd party wall charger that can charge all the 6 batteries that came with my apple battery charger pack, at once? i dont mind spending little extra if it can do it really fast without damaging my batteries.
i have a set each in the trackpad, mouse and keyboard (all apple). and usually when any one runs out, its about time the others would too so i would like to charge them all at once without having to take turns with the charger.
    thanks.

  • 3rd Party Battery Quirk?

As reported on MacFixIt.com Oct. 26, 2005: "Although they sometimes offer a higher purported capacity, the downside of many third-party batteries is that when the system reaches a point of low power where it would normally automatically go to sleep and preserve unsaved data (with an Apple battery), third-party batteries will allow the machine to simply shut off causing you to lose unsaved data if you aren't careful enough to put the machine to sleep manually when power is running low."
    IS THIS TRUE ? ? ? ?

Hey Terrell. Yes you did and your reply here makes me feel less lonely. {:-> Your's is the first here.
I've been, by virtue of this post and others, trying to get some help in deciding the pros and cons of different batteries and their suppliers.
Because of the so called "3rd Party Battery Quirk?" I've been hesitant to just jump in the water, so to speak.
Finding that you aren't having this particular problem is reassuring.
If you can't find the MacFixIt.com article (Oct. 26, 2005) I could send it to you. I archive many of their articles.

  • New battery is lower capacity compared to old MBP... 3rd party upgrade?

I find that I don't get as good of battery life with my new unibody mbp, compared to my old macbook pro, I found out that they lowered the capacity of the battery... does anyone know of 3rd party battery that fits in the mbp but has a higher capacity?

No. You should explore why you are getting shorter battery life with the new MBP. How much shorter? Have you checked Activity Monitor for runaway processes? The capacity of the new batteries is lower, yes. But, the machines are also more power efficient, so they should actually have slightly longer run times than the older machines.

  • 3rd party bluetooth mouse can't connect Lion

    Hi there,
There is a problem I found in Mac OS X Lion, I found that the 3rd party bluetooth mouse that couldn't be connect to those computer that installed Mac OS X Lion, beside that, I also got connect and use normally with my bluetooth mouse when I using Snow Leopard, and also I get test with some computer running Snow Leopard that I have, its running good.  But not in Lion.
I tried to reset nvram or reset the bluetooth setting on my Mac Book Air, also not working, and I tried my bluetooth mouse connect to HK Apple Store's demo iMac, also not working, but it just working at my brothers iMac that running Snow Leopard!
Could I have any advice about this?
    Thank you!

On the Mac with Lion installed, the Bluetooth preferences may be corrupted.
    Go to     /LIbary/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
Make sure the batteries in the mouse are fresh.
Now open System Preferences > Bluetooth
Make sure On and Discoverable are selected.
Click:  Set Up New Device ...
    See if that works.

  • Competent Apple 3rd Party Service Providers?

My threads concerning this issue are so old they've been archived. Alittle background.
500mhz Pismo with 20 gb hd purchased new 11/2000.
HD actually caught fire 10/2003. Apple promptly repaired under warranty.
Replaced power supply (flying saucer) in 2006. Replaced batteries and maxed out the RAM in spring of 2007. Running 10.3.9 at the time.
10/2007: Pismo's video and audio vanish although hd continues to run. Video and audio return after reboot but this only works for a brief time. Since then, Pismo has visited 3 regional shops for 12 visits. Everything replaced and upgraded according to the shops; $1000 spent to date. Pismo worked very briefly on a handful of occassions but always failed in the same manner as described above or just plain didn't start up the vast majority of the time.
My question: Is there a secret Apple 'handshake' or 'password' I need to know to get this unit properly repaired? A special 'wink'? Do I need a commendation from an Isis high priestess?
The one competent, honest Apple 3rd party tech left the area years ago and the local company owned Apple Store refuses to work on a unit this old. My nephew is a Dell tech at the nashville, TN facility and has offered to take a look.
Any and all constructive comments appreciated.

    eww,
Thanks for the response. The money hasn't been the issue here and you know it as we've gone around about this before. Two of the three shop I've never done business with before; third shop is local and had a dreadful rep years ago. I gave'em another shot as the techs bought the shop from the original owner - nothing changed except they now lack a showroom. I still recall the Police showing up on one occassion to quiten a 'disruptive' customer; one of many unfortunately.
My Apple experience got off to a rocky start until I was given a tip about a first rate Apple tech who worked for an electronic goods retail chain. He repaired both problematic Apple computers the first time and they remained problem free. Unfortunately, the tech returned to Maryland the following year I was told.
*My point is Apple appears to have no oversight function regarding whoever chooses to hang the Apple shingle over their door*. I do appreciate the tip regarding PowerBook Parts. Meanwhile, I'll let my inhouse (family) Dell Tech take a look at it.

  • OEM vs 3rd party power supplies

I'm interested in others' experiences with the relative quality of Lenovo and third-party power supplies, particularly with 20 volt, 90 watt supplies (e.g. for the T410).
I'm about to shop for a second power supply to use with a docking station. Price isn't my first consideration, but if buying a third party power supply will save me a few dollars without sacrificing quality, I'll do it. If any of the third party supplies are actually better than Lenovo supplies, I'd consider paying a premium.
If I do get a third party supply, are there any particular brands to look for, or look out for?

There have been reports of problems with 3rd party AC adapters, especially the sort you find on eBay or order direct from some supplier in China. You can get used genuine Lenovo AC adapters inexpensively at any store that sells used or refurbished PCs. I wouldn't try to save money on 3rd party AC adapters or batteries for that matter. It's not worth the risk.

  • HP AiO remote doesn't recognize 3rd party toner as compatible in LaserJet M1217nfw MFP

    Hi,
I have a HP Envy 17 running Windows 8.1, a MacBook Air, an iPhone and a HP LaserJet M1217nfw MFP.  I recently replaced the toner with a 3rd party replacement cartridge and while the printer does give me a "supply memory error" I am still able to print just fine from the Mac and my phone.  I am unable however to print from my Envy.  The HP All-in-One Remote app in Windows 8 gives me an "incompatible cartridge" message and says there are no solutions availble.  Is there a work-around to this?
I am not very good at Windows 8....
    Thanks

    Hi Thaddeus,
Although the printer may resoponse to some commands, a supply memory error is an error state about the used cartridge.
Due the error message on the screen the HP AIO Remote recognize the cartridge as incompatible, that cannot be bypassed
with any settings, resolving the issue which cause the error message is the only key to resolve a such.
If the HP AiO Remote fails to print in such condition the only solution is to fully resolve the condition by following the steps listed in my previous post.

  • 3rd Party AIFF loops tempo changes from loop library and Logic session

    Hi there,
Hope somebody out there can help me out!
I've recently purchased some 3rd party loops, some in AIFF and some in WAV (Which I have converted to AIFF using the Apple Loops Utility), and i have been able to get these into the logic Loop library successfully.....Or so I thought!
The problem I am having is that when previewing one of my loops it's often double the speed that the set tempo, and this will happen to ALL of my loops. But when I drag one into my session, Logic asks if it should copy over the automation data with it, click yes, and it plays fine in the arrange window. And funnily enough, all of my loops in the library start playing at the correct tempo!
Once this has all happened, i've tried quitting logic, and re-opening....but the issue just happens again....
Has anyone else had this problem, or have any idea as to what the issue may be??
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • How can I use a 3rd party XML parser such as xerces with OC4J ?

    Hi all tech experts,
I am using Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) and i have
installed Portal and Wireless and OracleAS Infrastructure on the same
    computer.
i tried all the solutions on this thread
Use of Xerces Parser in out application with Oracle App Server 9.0.4
    but still fighting.
I have also posted this query on OTN on following thread
How can I use a 3rd party XML parser such as xerces with OC4J?
    but no reply....
Please help me on this issue.
Since OC4J is preconfigured to use the Oracle XML parser which is xmlparserv2.jar.
i have read the following article which states that
OC4J is preconfigured to use the Oracle XML parser. The Oracle XML parser is fully JAXP 1.1 compatible and will serve the needs of applications which require JAXP functionality. This approach does not require the download, installation, and configuration of additional XML parsers.
The Oracle XML parser (xmlparserv2.jar) is configured to load as a system level library of OC4J through it's inclusion as an entry in the Class-Path entry of the oc4j.jar Manifest.mf file. This results in the Oracle XML parser being used for all common deployment and packaging situations. You are not permitted to modify the Manifest.mf file of oc4j.jar.
It must be noted that configuring OC4J to run with any additional XML parser or JDBC library is not a supported configuration. We do know customers who have managed to successfully replace the system level XML parser and the Oracle JDBC drivers that ship with the product, but we do not support this type of configuration due to the possibility of unexpected system behavior and system errors that might occur from replacing the tested and certified libraries.
If you absolutely must use an additional XML parser such as xerces, then you have to start OC4J such that the xerces.jar file is loaded at a level above the OC4J system classpath. This can be accomplished using the -Xbootclasspath flag of the JRE.
i have also run the following command
    java -Xbootclasspath/a:d:\xerces\xerces.jar -jar oc4j.jar
    but no success.
How could i utilize my jar's like xerces.jar and xalan.jar for parsing instead of OC4J in-built parser ?
All reply will be highly appreciated.
    Thnx in advance to all.

  • Airplay no longer working with 3rd party after upgrading to Maverick.

I updated my MacBook Pro this week and I have noticed that the airplay icon is no longer showing up in iTunes to connect to my Denon Amplifier. The interesting thing is that my old iPad 1 that I have that is still running 5.1.1 can connect and play to the receiver just fine.
Was there an update to the airplay software that would affect 3rd party devices? I was not able to find any new updates for my receiver.

I woke up this morning with the same problem (all was fine last night).  Only way to get all my mailbox folders back was to use Time Machine while in Mail, choosing the backup file from previous night and selecting EACH MAILBOX to restore (23 for me).  All appears okay so far today (except some of my accessories in the menu bar are gone).
I sure hope an update comes SOON.  In anticipation of Mavericks and the new MAIL I switched from Outlook 2011 3 weeks ago transfering 17,000+ files and would hate to back
