3rd party iPhone apps no longer launching - as of today (1/21/2010)

All third-party apps (those Not installed with the iPhone) are not launching.
I have called support and have done the following:
-Restarted the iphone
-Deleted apps. Installed New Apps. Deleted New apps. etc.
-Unchecked "Sync Apps" in ITunes (which removes them all).
-Checked "Sync Apps" and resynced (reinstalled all apps - which I then painstaking moved to the screens that I wanted them installed on)
When I touch an app, it appears to launch for a second, and then the screen appears, so the app never fully launches.
-I have signed out and back in my iTunes account.
I purchased this Iphone 3GS the day it was available on the web (from AT&T). All apps were working and launching until this morning. 3.1.2. 32 Gb. I've removed several apps so I "only" have five screens, or less than 80 apps.
I have set up for a callback Friday morning, but am wondering what others may have done with the similar problem.

After posting this, I read through related issues and found a reference to this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
I did the first step, which was Slightly Different than what I had done, and solved my problem. In short: iTunes > select iPhone icon > Store: Deauthorize, etc. Of course, now I have to set up all that apps with UserIds and passwords . . . .
This appears to be a DRM issue (Digital Rights Management). Why, I have no idea, but this is how I am now able to use all apps on my phone (once again).

  • 3rd party music app to play iTunes?

I'm looking for a 3rd party music app to replace the updated music app; any suggestions?
I listen to music constantly on public transportation and the app is garbage now.  I try and forward to the next song while shuffling and consistently hit the volume control instead, which is right below. I am a little sick of having my eardrums blown.
The artist view takes far too long if you have multiple albums.
If I can't replace the app I will replace the phone.

  • Audio Output Selection in 3rd Party Media Apps

In all 3rd party media apps that I have, including Netflix and Pandora, among others, I do not have that box/arrow button that allows me to choose which audio output to use.
I normally have my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) connected to a pico projector, and paired with a set of bluetooth headphones.
Depending on the order I plug the projector in, or pair the headphones, I can get the audio to play through the right channel, but it is very finicky. If there are any interruptions (call, text, ect) or if Ieave the app, and come back, it defaults to the serial connection, and tries to play the audio through the project.
Is the lack of the audio channel selection button on the iOS side or the app side?
    Thanks!

You should be able to reset the default app in application settings, then it'll ask again, but I don't remember how >_>

  • How to play previously DRM protected content in 3rd party iOS apps?

I have a collection of tracks which I purchased from iTunes around 2008, which have the iTunes DRM protection. I would like to play these tracks through 3rd party iOS applications. Specifically, the applications "NuVo Player", "Sonos", and "Ambify", although this seems to apply to all 3rd party music apps.
To remove the DRM from the files, I signed up for iTunes match. I enabled the service in iTunes, and let it scan my library. Once it was complete, I deleted the tracks which have DRM, and used the iTunes match service to re-download them. I used the Finder to inspect the new files, and verified that they are no longer protected. They are .m4a format, and are capable of being played by 3rd party applications in OS X.
I then removed the protected files from my phone, and manually re-synced the new files to my phone. Even after doing this, they are unplayable by 3rd party iOS apps. Unsurprisingly, syncing this .m4a file to a new device (which never had the protected version) allows it to play.
It seems that metadata of some kind may be retained on the iOS device. I suspect a full device restore would fix the problem, but I'm looking for a less intrusive solution.

I found that restoring defaults on the device, followed by a restore from backup, allows this track to play in 3rd party apps.

  • Apple Web apps versus 3rd party Web apps

There would appear to be some confusion regarding the use of Web apps on the iPhone; specifically, whether the iPhone warranty is voided if a Web app not currently offered on the Apple site at: http://www.apple.com/webapps/, is used on the iPhone. The issue came to light when a poster suggested using the iPhone Pixel Fix Web app (http://www.ebaspace.com/iphone-app/#_home), intended to resolve issues with stuck or dead pixels on the screen.
My understanding is that the use of any Web app that is not Apple approved automatically voids the iPhone warranty, no matter how innocuous it may seem or be. However, it may be that some users consider 3rd party Web apps, such as iPhone Pixel Fix, to be "allowed", as they run on locked/legal iPhones, and are not downloaded onto the phone.
As usual, I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong. May I have your thoughts, advice etc.?
    Cheers.

    jia10,
Web apps were available even before Apple posted the web apps directory. The information about each web app in the web apps directory is supplied by the submitter which is usually the author. Being included in the web apps directory does not indicate endorsement, recommendation, etc on the part of Apple, it is a directory of available web apps.
No web app should be able to void your warranty, regardless of the site it is posted to, unless it were to exploit a known or unknown security hole. For example, there was a web app that would exploit a security hole to "jailbreak" the iPhone. That was fixed in a previous update to the iPhone.
The Pixel fix web app cycles the colors on the iPhone screen several times using Javascript. It does not install anything on the screen. Essentially it tries to do the opposite of screen burn in. Whether or not it will work, I do not know.
However, using a web-based application that does not overwrite system files or modify the file system, does not void your warranty.
Installing third-party native applications or files that require you to crack the iPhone file system could potentially cause damage to the iPhone's firmware, and would void your warranty.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • IPhone apps no longer working...

iPhone 4, was running 4.x.  Windows laptop recently crashed, usual problem with iTunes wanting to wipe iPad since it hadn't sync'ed with new machine.  So allowed it to wipe iPad and all apps and data from it.  Spent time to rebuild sync libraries, got iPad working for the most part on new laptop.
New problem: since resolving the issue with the iPad, now no non-Apple apps on iPhone work anymore.  Press icon to launch, app entry screen flashes, then back to desktop on iPhone.  Computer *IS* authorized in iTunes store.  Tried downloading new app as test to iPhone, every app either says it needs iOS 5.1 or iOS 4.3.  Unable to sync apps from iPhone to iTunes, says computer is not authorized.  Re-did the authorization four or five times, no errors.
So went ahead and update iOS to 5.1.1 on iPhone in hope that would fix the app not running problem.  After many reboots and such, iPhone back up, and apps just restored to iPhone.  None run.  Start screen on each flashes, then back to desktop.  Five apps had updates, so I go to update one or all, get a popup on iPhone telling me I needed to pay for the apps.  Completely useless.
This iTunes thing not working is getting old.  How do I get these apps running again?  Computer *IS* authorized, iPhone *IS* running latest iOS, apps just flash and won't run or update.  Can't install new apps.  "Restoring" iTunes from a backup is a non-starter.
On a side note (and please don't focus on this comment as your reply to the above), is there any chance there's a third party app that can be used in place of iTunes to manage apps, music, et al on iPhone or iPad?
Edit: as soon as the music finished sync'ing, all apps were wiped off the iPhone for some reason.  Now blank of all but default apps.  No clue how that happened.  Also, ZERO apps appear in the purchased section in iTunes store, so nothing can be downloaded.
What the heck is going on here?  I'm not about to recommend ANYONE at the company go with iPhone 5 at this point.
    Thanks.

First, all of your issues are the result of not having a backup of your computer to put all the content on the new computer.  This is just plain dumb... take this as an opportunity to learn a lesson.
Second, basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these steps in order until the issue is resolved.
Many users have reported success in simply downloading any new app (free or paid) to the device to resolve the app failing to launch issue.
Third, the only way to manage content on an iOS device is via iTunes.
Fourth, as long as the user is signed in with the same Apple account, content will appear in the purchase history.  If it's not showing, then the logical conclusion is that you are signed in with a different Apple ID than then one used to acquire the content.
Finally, nothing about your issues indicates an Apple, iOS, or iPhone issue.  Everything points to a failure on the part of the user to maintain backups which has created all the issues you are experiencing.

  • Image preview not working with 3rd party photo apps in iPhoto/Image Capture

I haven't had a problem until recently with the iPhone 4. Pictures taken with third party photo apps such as Shake It Photo or Hipstamatic no longer generate a thumbnail preview in either iPhoto or Image Capture. It's just a generic jpg icon. All pictures taken with Apple's camera app appear just fine. I also had a problem where I couldn't import any of the photos, but I restarted the phone a couple times and that seemed to fix the importing issue, but not the thumbnail preview issue. This is particularly weird because i've been importing pictures since the first day this phone came out, and it's only been doing this since yesterday.
I know a lot of people are having problems getting their iPhoto to recognize the phone at all or that there are photos on the phone, but is anyone else having the same problem as me? Any solutions? I have iPhoto 8.1.2.
    Thanks!

I'll subscribe to this tread to see if anyone comes up with a fix.

  • Recommend a 3rd party camera app?

    Hi,
I was wondering what people's opinions were in reference to using a 3rd party app from the app store for the camera (both photos and vid)...where the app will let you lower the resolution for taking pics and shooting video so you are not forced to use the native setting in iPhone?  Not sure why Apple refuses to add this feature and forces everyone to shoot in the highest setting which eats up storage space.
Anyways wanted to see what others used before I decided on which app to go with.
    Thanks!

  • TS4550 Are 3rd party VPN apps affected?

We use the app "Cisco AnyConnect" to establish a VPN connection "on demand".
Are third party VPN apps also affected by this change?

According to our Cisco contact, this change affects also 3rd Party VPNs on the iPhone.
"For customers unhappy with this change, they will need to discuss this with Apple as this is not a Cisco feature and this change is not in our control."

  • IPhone apps QUIT UPON LAUNCH

I have been experiencing this problem every since I purchased my 8gb. iPhone 3G.
When I sync my iPhone after installing apps on the phone, the apps no longer work. I select an icon and the application opens a blank window and then quits to the home screen. Anybody know if Apple is working on this problem?

    Hello
You may wish to try the following
    1. De-authorize and Re-authorize iTunes Store account
About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
    2. Now Un-sync the Apps off the iPhone and Re-sync and then attempt to launch Apps
    3. Download a free app and then sync from iTunes to iPhone & then launch app on iPhone
    4. Reboot iPhone

  • 3rd party Iphone books. Are these any good?

Everyone knows that Apple is notorious for their lack of written documentation regarding their products. You get a little booklet with little or no information and either a web site or a electronoc file with a to fill in the rest of the documentation. Again the electronic files and the booklet do not get into great detail about the product nuances. I have beeen looking at two Iphone books that seem to be good but I am not sure if there are any better 3rd party books. The two that I looked at are:
    Iphone 4 Made Simple
    ( http://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Made-Simple-Martin-Trautschold/dp/1430231920)
     and
    Iphone 4 Thr Missing Manual
    ( http://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Missing-Manual-Covers-Software/dp/1449393659/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1296942194&sr=1-1)
    Any opinions?

Never mind.  I just realized I totally misread your question...  I't is still early for me!
I am hoping that any booklets would be from Apple and not Verizon.  It would only make sense since Verizon will do none of the service on them, only Apple.  But, we all know what "it would only make sense" usually gets us.  Maybe hold of on them until you actually see what you get.

  • 3rd party iPhone 5 adapter question

I recently bought the iPhone 5 from AT&T and while i was there they said something that if i were to used a 3rd party adapter to charge my phone, i would leave a electric stamp in the phone and would void out any warranty and the same thing for 3rd party cases.  Now to me, it sort of sounded like a crock to try to get me to buy thier marked up products but is there any truth to this?
    Thanks in advance.

Ok so let's work out how much I need to spend on adapters!
We have 3 iPhone 4's in the house which I would love to upgrade to iPhone 5's plus 1 ipod touch which again I would love to upgrade.
We have 1 speaker dock in the dining room, 1 in the living room and 2 upstairs! Now charging is not a problem cos I will get lightning cables with all the new devices!
All of my docks are on many occasions being used at once!
So I need £120 worth of adapters.... Which to be honest are a bit ugly and I'm not convinced will fit some of my devices!!!
I got about £400 quids worth of equiptment which is now redundant unless I spend another £120!!
I personally am only one of many whos is not happy with having to buy the adapter!
I understand the need to move with times and thik the cable is brilliant! But common I bet it only costs a fiver to make!!!

  • 3rd Party Audio Apps randomly freez3

3rd party audio applications (Podcast! Audible, iHeart), randomly freeze on both my 1020 and 925. This doesn't happen on my 920 or 521 devices. Is there a fix in the works? I'm not the only person who is having this issue

Make sure these apps are allowed in "Background Tasks"
And also, make sure you are connected to a fast WiFi network.
