3rd week of MacBook ownership.. my observations and questions...

Note: I have 2 main questions below.. if you don't want to read my thoughts, skip below...
I bought a Black MacBook about 3 weeks ago from CompUSA.. 18 months no interest and an interested buyer for my windows laptop--I had to go for it. This is my first mac, and due to not having done enough research, I feel I may have jumped too quickly into buying one. In case you're wondering, it's a week 20 model.
First off, I do love this computer.. It is far more intuitive than any system I've used. The learning curve was small and worthwhile... Some software I had been using doesn't exist on the Mac and I'm not really willing to purchase a copy of XP just to install it on this system.. then again, I have my original disk from my old laptop.
Anyways.. Photoshop CS2 is unbearably slow. Illustrator CS2 is tolerable, but I do a lot more work in Photoshop at the moment... Ableton Live 5 is universal, so is Reason.. so those both work well.
Heat.
Okay, it's running at 50 degrees right now. I'm unplugged and only running Firefox and iChat. I've seen it go as high as 82, which was the absolute highest I've been able to get it.. What's odd is that it was during the same conditions I'm in right now. I let it drop back down to around 65 (which is the normal idle temp) and then I shut the lid. Well, it didn't go into sleep and the fan decided to start spinning faster.. and faster.. and faster.. until it was really loud. I opened the lid and the system wouldn't start back up.. I had to hold down the power button to stop the fan and reboot. After that, it wasn't running hot at all. crazy.
Moo.
Yes, it moos. In a completely silent room it will drive you crazy.. this normally kicks in at 65-69 degrees when the temperature is hovering around that area. It's kind of annoying, but I don't really notice it unless everything is quiet. Overall it is much quieter than any windows laptop I've ever used.. .and if a firmware upgrade fixes this in the future then gravy.
Hiss.
Yes, there is a hiss coming from the processor. Doesn't matter if the power adapter is plugged in or not.. the only thing that stops it is turning on the camera.. crazy. It's not that loud and it's easily overlooked.
Dead pixel.
I have one dead pixel. Close to the center of the screen. Looks like a tiny speck of dust. I feel that a $1500 computer shouldn't have this issue, but whatever.. 2.3 million transistors, one is bound to go bad. I've tried the fixes with no help.
So here are the questions.
I'm going to talk to the Apple rep that works at the CompUSA location I went to... I'm going to tell him my concerns and see what I should do. In the event that I get it replaced, how do I go about backing up my programs that I've installed? I'm not sure if Macs are like windows where you can't just copy over folders or something like that. Is there a way I can make an image of my applications folder on an external drive and somehow save all of my info so it can be copied onto a new macbook? I'm lost. I don't want to spend another 2 days getting everything reinstalled on my system.
Anyways, any help would be great.
Macbook (Black) Mac OS X (10.4.6)

To answer your question, "core duo" means that the chip actually has 2 cores in it.. basically two processors in one. Since it's an x86 chip, you can run windows (by using bootcamp) but you'll need a real XP install disk to do it.
You can then run your existing versions of CS2 on the Windows partition.. you can't run them on the mac side. I would actually recommend using them in Windows, since all of those adobe suite products on Mac use Rosetta emulation which makes them reaallllly slow. Illustrator isn't bad, but Photoshop CS2 is rediculously slow especially with large files.
So... yes and no. You CAN run your windows CS2 programs on the Mac, but you'll have to install Windows on your mac. I'm thinking about using windows for design and running the Mac side for web browsing, music production and everything else... I'm pretty sold on Mac, but until CS3 comes out I won't be able to stand the loss of speed.

• Gray screen on Macbook Air with folder and question mark flashing

when I am trying to boot up the brey screen and a flashing forlder with question mark appears
I did a bootable flash drive usd but I cant get to the flash drive! I tried with option key with C key but nothing works.
When i press Option key its getting the wifi connection , which i establish but that is all nothing else happens.
With C key you see that reads the flash drive but that is all what it does, after a minute will go to that traffic sign on interdiction.
Anybody could help.

My macbook OSX10.5 has done this twice. First time I tried all the "fixes" suggested by the gurus. Waste of time but I did not reformat the HD and instead put it aside for a few weeks. I tried it agan and hooray, it booted normally and continued for some months until two days ago with the return of the gray folder of death. The clicking noise sounded like the HD hunting or maybe stuck. In desperation I gave it a thump on my knee and my old macbook booted normally and continues to work normally. I know that eventually I'll have to invest in a new computer but in the mean time I will try to keep "old faithful" going as long as possible. Sometimes Ockhams Razor is the best solution.

• MacBook shows grey screen and question mark folder on startup.

Have tried different things that have been suggested....reboot PRAM holding down option command P R etc but nothing yet has worked. Don't have installation disk as MacBook is 9 years old so must've thrown disk out years ago. Any ideas?

Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

• Some Observations and questions

I was running my RMI application on 2 different machines, and found out that the applications never called the remote methods (they could find and connect to the remote objects but never called any methods on them). So I read about it and found that I had to set the security manager.
I wrote the following policy file:
grant {
permission java.net.SocketPermission "*:1024-65535", "connect,accept,listen,resolve";
permission java.net.SocketPermission "*:80", "connect";
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "accessEventQueue";
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "showWindowWithoutWarningBanner";
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "user.home", "read";
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "user.dir", "read,write";
permission java.io.FilePermission "${user.dir}/", "read,write,execute";
permission java.io.FilePermission "${user.dir}/download/", "write";
//permission java.io.FilePermission "${user.home}/text2.txt", "read";
I compiled as follows:
P:\xml approach1>java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase="file:/P:/xml approach1/" -Djava.security.policy="P
:/xml approach1/server.policy" P2P
But I got the following errors:
Exception in thread "main" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermissi
on C:\WINNT read)
at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source)
at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(Unknown Source)

at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicFileChooserUI$BasicFileView.getIcon(Unknown Source)
at javax.swing.JFileChooser.getIcon(Unknown Source)
at .........
I am doing my development at my University and therefore do not have access to certain folders e.g C:\WINNT.
I thought if I delete the line : permission java.util.PropertyPermission "user.home", "read"; I may be able to run the code. But again I got the following errors:
Exception in thread "main" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPe
rmission user.home read)
at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source)......
If I have a policy file wchich just says:
grant {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
I can run the code, but again the methods are called locally.
So my questions are:
(1) How can I make sure, that the system does call remote methods.
(2) Since I do not have access to 'C:\WINNT', how can I use 'permission java.util.PropertyPermission "user.home", "read"' without getting 'access denied' error.
This post seems lengthy
regards

-Djava.rmi.server.codebase="file:/P:/xml approach1/"The server codebase must be in an http server capable of serving files. It will not read files from a standard filesystem across the network. It was working 'locally' because the classes were all found on the classpath by the same classloader ...in effect it ran like a normal application.

• Pioneer BD-203 Blu Ray drive Observations and questions

I have a DP35D motherboard with a Q6600 processor and 2mb RAM. I run XP with SP2 and PE7.
I use hi def video and usually write to a DVD burner, with no problems. I have 4 hard drives with a dedicated drive for PE7 video files, a 1TB drive.
On DVD all is well.
So I installed a Pioneer BD- 203 Blu Ray drive (all my drives apart from the DVD drive are SATA). Installation of the BD203 went well, the PC recognised it and I was not required to "do" anything. It was a bare drive so NO additional software was installed. I did not need to go into the BIOS or "do" anything.
I went into PE7 and the BD-203 was instantly recognised - so far so very good!
I took an existing 1hr 27 minute Hi Def video which I had successfully written to DVD and wrote it to BluRay. As a matter of interest it took 1hr 40mins to encode the video (as an MPEG2 file), then PE7 reported that the disc (BluRay that is) was being burnt (Burn in Progress) but there was no movement of the progress bar within PE7 and the hard drive was busy for just over an hour. Then there was activity on the BD-203 drive but the progress bar remained static - after maybe less than an hour the drive spat out the disc (a Traxdata 4* record BD-R disc) and NO error messages were reported. So all looked relatively good, at least thats what I thought. I have NO means of playing the disc at the moment and the BluRay disc certainly has some data written to it but only about half a discs worth.
I tried to read the BluRay disc on my PC and Windows XP said "Windows cannot read from the disc. The disc may be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows". I was not overly concerned by this as I have no BluRay reader on my PC.
I then encoded a separate 2 and a half minute video onto a Verbatim BD-RE disc. Obviously this was a much quicker process!! Once again the same set of processes albiet much more speedy.
Questions.
What encoding should I select MPEG2 1440 * 1080i PAL Dolby OR MPEG2 1920 * 1080i PAL Dolby? My camcorder produces 1440 by 1080i as I believe is common practice.
Can I assume that the resultant discs are OK or should I suspect something?
Is there a free/cheap BluRay player for a PC that wont interfere with the BluRay writing operation or cause any other problems? and which I can use on my PC in order to verify that the discs I have written to are OK?
Andy

Thanks, I will be tyesting my discs over the weekend.
But I can advise you that my DB203 does successfully burn DVDs and I can play those DVDs. From that I deduce that the drive is functional in the DVD writing mode - so I am a little more hopeful.
Andy
PS Will advise all re progress - as BluRay writing seems to be a bit of an issue!!

• DSC-RX100 III - 50i (French model) - observations and questions

SONY DSC-RX100 III running firwmare Ver. 1.00 out of the box.Unit made in China serial 288XXXX.French specs - PAL 50i model Pros:This is an excellent camera! I love the weight (heft) and feel to the touch. The wider end of the lens is now 24 mm and it is fast F1.8.Neutral Density filter built-in! The functions and manual controls do not disappoint either.The PlayMemories Mobile app v. 4.2.2 (which is required to use the Remote Control app on the camera) also works as advertised on my Android Nexus 5 running 4.4.4 to remote trigger the shutter and then transfer the shot over to the phone via WiFi.Can't comment on the image quality as I just got it yesterday and I am still learning to use it properly. Cons:The LCD pannel on my unit leaks light from the bottom left corner and the whole vertical right side. Very annoying.Also, I can see it getting scratched with use by the body sharp edge when the panel is flipped-up (why not rubberize that part?). I *really hate* how pushing the viewfinder down will turn the camera off. It should stay on. They did this because opening the viewfinder will turn ON the cam if it's OFF and they figured it should go OFF too when the viewfinder is put away. The solution is to add a menu item to let the user choose. FIRMWARE this update please!!! Switching the camera to record video to NTSC 60i will cause the camera to show that info *every time* the camera is turned ON. ***This is also very very annoying***. FIRMWARE UPDATE THIS AS WELL PLEASE. I can't find anywhere in the User Manual or online a complete legend of all the symbols displayed on the screen. Some of those I have no idea what they mean, e.g. a green running little man which shows up and disappears.Someone please send this info.

Thank you for your note. Yes, I have been using it in Auto Mode. The little green man. I think it sense motion as it only seems to show when I am making ample moves with the camera in hand. Light leak means that the lights is visible through an opening/ gap in the frame surrounding the LCD screen. Obviously it is not normal and I have seen have had my RX100M3 exchanged by another one. The new one is from a more recent produciton batch serial 289XXXX, doesn't have that problem but the LCD screen has a slightly yellowish tinit to it. So annoying. Video: I thought there is only one way/ mode to shoot video.There is a discussion about this on dpreview as well. I also would like to see an edge/ border protective rubber edge or something similar to protect the screen when it's deployed vertically and touching. The current implementation has me worried it will gret scratched somehow. Let's Sony know we expect a fix for everything listed.Please pile on! Love it otherwise!

I upgraded to mountain lion a week ago and now on startup of my macbook pro, microsoft excel and word start up automatically and then crash? very strange can anyone please help? I have checked the login items under users and groups and there is nothing.

Are you using the Office for Mac 2011 version, as you need to do? The Office for Mac 2004 is Not at all compatible with Mountain Lion, and the 2008 version has been noted to have some problems running with ML.
Hope this helps

• Hello, i registered my visa card and then removed and again 3 times. and im realize itunes takes money at every register, so i make little research there says itunes gives back that money back but its already 3rd week and no refunds ? Please help

hello Apple community i have little problem i didnt know itunes takes 1$ for every register visa card. i registerd and then removed 3 times so its taked 3$ so i make little researchs i found itunes gives back that money but its my 3rd week waiting and no refund pls help.

The temporary store holding charge that is made when you add or change the card details (to check that the card is valid and active and registered to the same name and address as on your account) should disappear within a few days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702 - it should be your card issuer that removes the hold, so you may need to contact them :
Authorization holds are removed by your financial institution shortly after your purchase clears. The amount of time it takes to remove authorization requests varies by financial institution.
If you have questions about the way your financial institution handles authorization requests, contact their customer service department.
If you want to contact iTunes support then you can do so via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

• Hi everybody, I am in Turkey on a long assignment, I need help solving a big problem on my macbook pro os 10.9.3. The other week my wife visited some website and now we have a redirect virus of some sort, and every other time when we click

Hi everybody, I am in Turkey on a long assignment, I need help solving a big problem on my macbook pro os 10.9.3. The other week my wife visited some website and now we have a redirect virus of some sort, and every other time when we click on a link or anywhere on the page we are redirected to this casino web site, https://casino.7bets10.com/tr/?from=hy9yKXD43jSC-8Oxbw4femNd7ZgqdRLk-dHJpeG9uaXR l. Its the same whether on Chrome or Safari. Does anyone have a solution, thank you!

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(Software Hardware Memory Diagnostics Power FireWire Thunderbolt USB Fonts 51 4 1000 25 5120 KiB/s 1024 85 \\b%% 20480 1 MB/s 25000 ports     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

• Brand new Macbook Pro keeps crashing and restarting - Mavericks

Hey guys, I just got a new Macbook Pro on Monday and my first time turning it on it was perfect, the next day I turned it on and kept crashing and "Restarting due to a problem", it wouldn't even make to to the log in page. Every time I power it up now I get the same issue over and over, once I make it passed the log in it is usually fine but does crash sometimes randomly but not much.
I have read here that updating to Mavericks has caused this problem but surely when it came with it and is less than a week old it should be fine? (I'm confused as to why the report says my Mac is Mid 2012, I just bought it!!) Also the only software I have installed is Microsoft Office. I do have Silverlight Plug in installed for Netflix which I read can be an issue with Mavericks.
I downloaded EtreCheck and this is the report I have. Please any help will be great!

• Macbook Air random freeze and reboot, plus other problems

I've had my Macbook Air for about 6 weeks and am having several issues. It is the 13" model, special ordered with 8GB of ram so it came straight from the factory. I copied all my data over from a mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro using migration assistant, and for the most part it has been a wonderful machine. There are a few problems, however, and now it is getting more serious.
First, I visited my closest Apple store to have them look at the wifi and bluetooth connection. It was not picking up wifi after waking up, and the same for my bluetooth mouse. They replaced some files and tested it out and it appeared to be fixed, but the problem persists. At least 50% of the time when I wake it up after leaving for 30-60 minutes, I click the mouse and it wakes up, but then there is no response when I move or click the mouse again. I often have to turn the mouse off and on several times to get it to connect.
Wifi is the same, though not as bad. Probably 10% of the time, it will not connect to a known wifi spot after wake. Sometimes it even tells me that none of my trusted networks are available, even when the network I use everyday is listed as available. This is a minor inconvenience, but it is a problem I never had with the macbook pro. Instead of picking up wifi within 10 seconds of wake, it can take as long as 60-90 seconds.
Now the real issues begin. Yesterday morning I stepped away from the computer for a few minutes, and when I returned it had rebooted itself. I do not know why. Only a few programs were running, nothing like system update that would restart the computer. I did a search online but could not find anything recent enough to point to a possible problem.
Then this morning it froze while I was using it. Mouse and keyboard (both external and the ones on the laptop) stopped responding. After a few minutes of waiting I finally shut it down by holding the power button until it turned off. This was alarming, especially less than 2 months after buying the machine. I will likely make an appointment at the Apple store again but these issues happen randomly and if I can't reproduce it they have little hope of diagnosing the problem.
Has anyone else had similar issues? I have run system update and nothing else is pending. This weekend I may restore it to factory settings and load all my data manually instead of copying from timemachine, but that is a royal pain. I'm looking for any suggestions of what to do because I planned to use this computer for years and the first 6 weeks have been very frustrating.

It is probably best to return to the Apple store for assistance, however, you do have 90 days of phone (in the US 800-275-2273) access to Apple which you can use too. If you buy Applecare anytime in the first year of ownership, the warranty and phone access is extended for a total of 3 years coverage (warranty and phone).

• Do week 26+ Macbooks moo?

(to avoid sob-story, skip to 4th paragraph)Well I'm on my 3rd Macbook and not quite sure what to do. I bought my first Macbook almost a month ago (which was also my first Apple). Opened it up at home and discovered a cluster of 3 dead pixels dead center. The next morning, I drove back to the Emeryville store and a genious tried to tell me I had to keep it. Spoke with the manager and got an exchange without restocking fee.
Macbook #2 had an idle temp of 65c, not highly unusual, but it mooed dreadfully from 65-69, which covered just about every typical load I would ever put on the machine between firefox, itunes, and word. The moo was loud enough that my wife didn't want to study in the same room as it. Called Apple support and got a hold of a "second tier" tech who guided me through a few various memory resets and told me to bring the Macbook into the Apple store. Ran into the same genious at Emeryville who told me he couldn't hear the moo, even in back, and then that this was the way Macbooks are supposed to run the CPU fan. He even picked up the Macbook at one point, with his fingers on the LCD and turned it upside down with his ear to it.. scratching the glossy (gotta love this guy). Suffice to say they did not offer to fix it since there was no "demonstrable" issue.
Switched gears and brought the Macbook to the Palo Alto store, which I have to say is an entirely different experience. The genious immediately identified the problem and offered to either have the machine fixed or exchanged. I took the latter and ended up with macbook #3 which has the exact same CPU fan throttling issue, plus kernel panics.
Last night I called Apple support and they told me they that they have figured out what is causing the moo and that it is not a firmware issue that can be fixed with an update, but a hardware issue which should be sent in. I have to say I'm a little confused at this point because I've heard three things from Apple re: the moo: 1. It's spec, 2. It's going to be fixed via a firmware update (which other users have reported and would seem to make sense) and, 3. it's purely a hardware issue that shoudl be sent in to Apple.
I don't really know what to do at this point. I absolutely love everything about the macbook aside from the moo, but using this notebook in class or at a meeting at work would not be an option with the noise factor. I'd feel guilty returning a 3rd macbook because at a certain point it's a little ridiculous, and figure I'll just get another mooing Macbook in return.
I have read online that week 26 macbooks are a "rev. 2" and that they both run slighlty cooler and do not moo, can anyone confirm this?
macbook Mac OS X (10.4.6)

OK
how are the chances the 'moo' will be fixed with a firmware-update?
I have the moo also. Had it in my first macbook, which i send back because of a broken superdrive. And i have it in my replacement (the 'moo'). It's not as loud as in my first macbook but still. I also can hear the harddrive spin (constantly). Most iritating when it is quiet in my room. There are more problems, but i don't want to apply for a third one. Cause there are so much good things about this one: no kernel panics, no dead pixels etc. So stuck to this one. Only bringing it in for a good check-up. With a squaky lid as excuse. Then they can check the complete macbook. Rather have it repaired (if possible) then replaced.
But about that firmwareupdate. Will it become available?

• Problem with Macbook Pro 2,66Ghz and 4GB Kingston memory

Hi all,
I bought 2x 2GB Kingston memory(SODIMM - DDR2 @ 667MHz) in order to upgrade my MBP.
When I install both modules, the MBP won;t boot. I get a blank screen.
If I use 1 Kingston module at a time (1x1GB(original memory module)and 2GB(Kingston)) .It works fine.
Both of the Kinston RAM modules seem to be working fine, when not installed together, but MBP doesn;t start when both are installed at the same time.
Any idea of what the problem could be?
Is related to my MBP or it has to do with the Kingston Modules?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm having the same problem on the 2.4 (early 2008 2.4 GHz macbook pro.) I bought 2x 2gb Crucial RAM and installed correctly, but the machine doesn't start up. So, I tried every conceivable combination, but the new 2gb RAM only works when paired with one of the old 1gb sticks giving me 3 gb total.
The new 2gb sticks BOTH work (when paired with old RAM), just not together. The 2gb RAM they sold me shows its speed as 6400 800mHz -- Could the faster speed be the problem? My system profiler shows the 800mHz RAM as 667mHz when it is installed.
D.P. it looks like you have the same mbp as me. I talked to Apple Support on the phone a couple weeks ago doing my own research and learned (i'm not SUPER tech-savvy) that the laptop is 800mhz but will only accept ram of 667mhz because the computer has to be faster than the memory installed in it. They cannot be the same speeds. Don't know if this would cause the problem you are having, though.

• I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror to an AppleTV. The devices will connect, but the video monitors show only a blank screen. The AppleTV's work fine with various other iOS & OSX devices. Ideas?

I have three AppleTV's where I work. I have two at home. I have an iPhone 4S running iOS7.0.2 which mirrors smoothly via AirPlay. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and a 2011 iMac, both running Mountain Lion, both of which mirror smoothly through AirPlay. I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror. The iPad will connect to the AppleTV, but the TV's and projectors only show a black screen when connected: the iPad screen looks as it should, except that the transitions become jumpy when connected via AirPlay. This is true on both networks: at home and at work. Another gentleman using the network where I work has the most recent iPad, also running iOS7.0.2, and he is having the same problem. I have tried to "Reset All Settings." I have tried to "Restore." Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone else experience difficulty mirroring the iPad through AirPlay since the release of iOS7.0.2?

No problems exists with the router (on either network described above) or the multiple AppleTV's which are able to mirror multiple other OSX & iOS devices seamlessly. The problem is strictly with the iPad and iOS7.

This is an iOS 7 AirPlay mirroring bug...
To make matters worse, the iPad automatically drops its mirroring session 45 seconds after it auto-locks.
3-4 mirroring sessions is all it takes for the iPad mirroring to freeze up.
After this happens, mirroring to an Apple TV only projects a blank screen.
Once the mirroring is hung, the only way to fix it is to restart the iPad.
Apple please fix this iOS 7 issue!
