3x GTX 470's 3dMark Scores

Hi,
I just got my 3rd GTX470..
and I've noticed a bit of a problem with the comp in my sig.
My 3dmark 11 scores have dropped by almost 1/2 ..
Was 6700, now 3800..
Not sure what's going on..

Remember that neither SLi nor X-Fire scales linear.
The first card you add, will add roughly ~50 - 90% performance, the second only ~10 - 50%, depending on games, hardware, drivers etc.
Just dont go for quad SLi, thats truly awfull scaling and best only be used for benching, since there are not many profiles for quad SLi.
It could be that at current your cpu is holding the cards up.
According to this:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-470-2-3-way-sli-review/26
Quote
3-way SLI will quickly run into limitations, the biggest one being your processor. Now our Core i7 965 is locked and loaded at 3.75 GHz, which already is a decent overclock. With the older or less demanding titles our setup is still not enough to feed three GTX 470 cards.
And, no offense, its a much faster cpu than the one in your sig.

  • Output Issue with GTX 470

Recently I changed my vodeo ard from ATI to GTX 470. After installing all updates every thing seemed fine excapt that when I applied "Freez Frame" effect and got output on DVD there was terrible shake on the clip where I applkied this effect. IT happened in the previous projects created with ATI card and even in new projects created with GTX 470. I removed GTX 470 put back old ATI card and completed the project.
I searched on the internet and did not find anyother person faced with this problem.
Can you please tell me what was wrong. I have already returned GTX card and using old ATI. but I want to have some card that uses MPE and speeds up my work.
    Waiting to hear

Sorry about that, thought I checked it. It was simply a link to another thread on this forum. I get a lot of good answers here. You may not completely get all the flicker out of any given frame grab, especially if it has a lot of contrast or motion/ interlace banding. I have struggled with it myself. When I use grabs I always take extra ones so I can swap out any that are problematic.
Some fight it http://forums.adobe.com/message/1721546#1721546 and some keep it a little more simple http://forums.adobe.com/message/2445526#2445526
    Hope it helps.

  • Premiere and Photoshop not recognizing GTX 470

Something happened and neither Photoshop nor Premiere are recognizing my GTX 470. I updated the drivers with a clean install. And did a stress test on the card. It is working perfectly. It is not hot.
What should my next step be?
    Thanks!

Fixed. For some reason I had to turn on GPU acceleration again. Works fine now.
    Back to work

  • GTX 470 lack of GPU acceleration

Windows 7 64-bit, 8GB RAM, MSI-branded GTX470, NOT gaming, using with Adobe CS5 applications. CS5 applications are updated to loatest patches.
I've read a few other posts but I still have some questions:
    1) If the hardware monitor provided with my GTX 470 is correct, and during effects rendering in Premiere and in transcoding in Encore with AME, GPU % used is about 1%, is that expected?
    2) I posted a question on the NVIDIA forum regarding my inability to add Premiere Pro CS5 and Encore CS5 to the list of GPU-accelerated applications using the NVIDIA Control Panel. The *CS4* applications are listed but Control Panel does not allow me to add CS5. I uninstalled CS4 some time ago, before I added the GTX 470.
    3) Today when I attempted to load a Premeiere Pro project, I get a message saying that Mercury GPU acceleration "is not available on this system" and "software only" mode will be used. What changed? Any way to recover?
So basically two sets of questions:
    a) Shouldn't transcoding use GPU acceleration? Shouldn't rendering in Premiere Pro use it? What else should I expect to NOT use GPU acceleration, aside from video effects, which are pretty clearly marked.
    b) Is there a trick to configuring either CS5 or GTX470 to allow GPU acceleration to be used?

Some effects are hardware accelerated, these are CUDA effects, because they use the CUDA engine on the video card. Others are not.
The GPU usage during transcoding is dependant on the source material and the export format. For instance if you start with HD (1920 x 1080) material and transcode to 720x576 SD PAL, the scaling is done by the video card (CUDA enabled). If there is no scaling during the transcode, then there is no assistance from the video card.
The faster the CPU and the memory, the more work can be done by the GPU, but if the CPU is slow, the video card is constantly waiting for the CPU. A Phenom II X4 is pretty slow, so the GPU is waiting for the CPU and will show low usage.
Look at the Background Information page at the PPBM5 Benchmark

  • GTX 470 - ya or na?!?

I know there are quite a few topics on ths and from reading in various of places I didnt really get any soild answers. Or is it still to early to tell?!? Since im tihnking longterm.
I have to buy a new card tmrw for my system and I jst need a straigth aswer if the GTX 470 GTX good to go? Or should i wait to see if adobe approves it?
Seems liek the 480 is getting more in favour for. Go with the GTX 285 or the 470 will do fine?
    any ideas?
    Im running:
    win 7 64bit
    Q9500 overclock'd
    raid 0 setup
    8 gig ram
    graphic card -  pending

Depends, what is your primary use?
If your primary use of the computer is to do video editing, I would probably either wait a little bit and wait to see if it becomes officially supported or buy a card which is supported right now.
If your computer primarily serves as a gaming rig, with video editing done now and then, well the 470/480 card is good for that, and the missing CUDA support in Premiere Pro CS5 will probably not be bothering you that much.
I mean that card is CUDA ready, so it might be added as a supported card in the future, but it's not a guarantee. So you can choose to bet on a safe horse (current supported cards) or bet one something that might or might not be supported.
    That's your choice.

  • Solid State RAID or no? GTX 470, playback is jumpy still

I am currently shooting with 3 Sony HDR CX550v cameras. When trying to edit it's very jumpy, almost impossible to edit. I used to use 3 Sony HDR SR1's. Both used AVCHD codec. On CS4 I was able to edit 3 tracks and sometimes more and it would scrub decent and playback most of the time decent, it was bearable at least. Transitions would be jumpy and I would render to preview when adding any effects. I knew I probably needed to upgrade my hard drives to a RAID.
Here's my Hardware as it was:
    Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9650 (12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Asus P5K3 Deluxe WiFi Intel 935 Socket 775 Motherboard
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS Superclocked 640MB PCIe
Western Digital Raptor 150GB Serial ATA HD 10K/16MB/SATA-150
2 more 320 GB Serial ATAHard Drives slaved
    OCZ 850w GameXStream Power Supply
    Corsair 8 GB DDR3 1333
Before I upgraded/installed Premeire Pro CS5 I reinstalled windows 7 64 bit, nuked everything, started fresh. Then installed CS5, then updated it. After trying the hack I replaced the EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS Superclocked 640MB PCIe that I though was future proof when I bought it over a year ago, the hack didn't work on the 8800 GTS despite the fact that it has over 100 CUDA Cores. I replaced it with a PNY GTX 470 so I could use the mercury playback engine.
It seemed at first to edit better with the GTX 470 then with the 8800 GTS in that transitions played back smooth. I even changed the brightness on one of the video tracks and it played back fine without having to render. But, about half way through I started experiencing jumpy playback.
I believe I need a better hard drive configuration. According to windows my primary hard disc is 5.9 out of 10, everything else is either 6.9 or 7.3. And, with the task manager open viewing the Performance while I play the timeline the CPU and memory seem to be doing great but playback is jumpy. So, I guess I need to upgrade to a RAID.
My mother board can do a RAID 0 or 1. But, I don't know enough about RAID to do it confidently and I don't trust anyone in this small town to do it for me. So, I need to know, should I:
do a RAID using my mother board to control it? if so, RAID 0 or RAID 1 (I can occasionally back up stuff to a slaved drive, right?)
do a RAID with 2 solid state drives or 2 hard drives?
Get a solid state drive for the operating system and have a RAID separately for programs?
    do an eSATA RAID?
    Serial Attached Storage (SAS)
    iSCSI
    Networked Attached Storage (NAS)
Number 5, 6, and 7 are some options my friend told me to look into. I did a little and being getting stressed with all the options. I really don't want to understand all the options, I just want to know what will work and move on.
I found on the forums something about RAID 3 being the best but a friend that knows about this stuff didn't know why that would be better than RAID 5.
I'm so swamped with my day job, being a father, and trying to get my video business going that I don't know if my brain can handle trying to figure out much more. I got excited about Solid State and thought that would be an easy option, but the more I got to digging the more I found that it has some flaws too.
The bottom line is, I just want to edit AVCHD without having playback issues during the editing process. I've tried Neoscene by Ceneform but that turned out to be converting the files to an insanely large size. I canceled the conversion when I saw that my 4.7 gig AVCHD was growing over 30 gigs! Yikes! and it was taking forever. I would prefer to not add another step to the work flow and what not. Life is too short for all that mess. I just need to edit without playback hesitations.
I'll move the timeline indicator and there's this annoying delay, I hit the space bar and delay, I playback and it's jumpy, I try to scrub the timeline and it's not showing anything. While there are some subtle improvements with the new graphics card and MPE enabled to use it, it's otherwise all worse than before it seems. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I should have said this.
With my current processor and good old set up I didn't have these playback issues.
Now, here's an update, this is what I shared with someone else earlier today:
I am editing multiple tracks of AVCHD video. The project at the moment is about 50 minutes long with three video tracks. The computer has a fresh, new Windows 7 Pro 64 bit install on it. Really, that's all that's on my system along with the Adobe Master Collection CS5.
Since my change from CS4 to CS5 I have not been able to edit video as well, it's really bad now. First I reinstalled windows and installed CS5 and didn't change any hardware. The performance was not good so I removed my GeForce GTS 8800 video card and purchased and installed a new GTX 470 certified adobe video card. That didn't work so I purchased 2 new hard drives to create a RAID, that didn't work either, still the same performance issues. After all of this in the last week, and now I'm wondering what do I do next? Here is my system hardware at the moment:
    Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9650 (12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Asus P5K3 Deluxe WiFi Intel 935 Socket 775 Motherboard
GeForce GTX 470 "Adobe Certified Video Card"
Two Seagate Baracuda 1 Terabyte drives for a RAID 0 using the ASUS RAID controller off the board
Western Digital Raptor 150GB Serial ATA HD 10K/16MB/SATA-150
2 more 320 GB Serial ATAHard Drives
    OCZ 850w GameXStream Power Supply
    Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333(Twin 3X2048-1333 C9)
I have the OS and CS5 on the RAID, the project on the fast WD hard drive, the media cache and preview files on a slaved drive, I even tried moving my media files to a slaved drive. It continuously, no matter what I do, performs the same.
    The permance issues are:
when I move the timeline indicator there is often a pause before it will play
when i jump around using the page up and page down keys there is often a pause
when i move tracks there is often a pause
when I hit the space bar to preview there is a pause/delay, and then it may sometimes playback fine but in certain spots the video stops and then resumes and does this often
when i scrub the timeline the preview doesn't display
I did add one effect on one track, that is brightness, but that is all.
What's weird is when I would edit AVCHD in CS4 I didn't have these problems. But, in CS5 I do notice some minor improvements, like in CS4 simple default transition would hang up for a bit, but the rest of the editing experience was easy. This is the other way around. It plays through almost all the transitions, even when the brightness effect is on one of the tracks, but everything else is horrible!
I've also been trying different settings, I've updated my video driver, RAID driver, and everything else in the device manager looks great.
I need help bad, otherwise I'm going to have to return CS5 and go with a different NLE real soon. I've wasted too much time now, please help.

  • GTX 470 or 570 for editing TIFF sequences with Mercury

Hello! II am making a short film with Cinema 4D and I'm thinking of getting either a GTX 470 or 570, does anyone know if using the mercury engine will actually improve editing speed with uncompressed 1080p TIFF sequences? All the prerendering slows down the editing process I'm on a i7-950 with 12 gb DDR3 and a ATI 5770 currently, my OS drive is also an SSD if that matters. My editing drives are just regular drives though, no RAID either. thanks!

I have a GTX 480 (with MPE hack) and a i7 980x, 24GB ram and a 3-disk Raid 0.  I've never been able to get a TIFF sequence to playback in real time.  The best I get is probably a choppy 4 frames per second.    I know this doesn't answer your question entirely, but maybe it can help a tad.
I myself I'm trying to get find a way to playback TIFF sequences.  I'm going to be setting up a 4-disk Raid 0 on an eSata raid box, but I'm thinking at some point it's just getting bottled necked at my port connection.  Not sure.  Others can probably shed more light on the Raids.
The best way I've been able to adapt so far is to create annoying proxy sequences (hence my repeat posts about Premiere needing proxy capabilities).  I drop my TIFF sequence in a new sequence.  Render it out in low rez. Drop that new low rez version onto the same sequence so now it has two--one HD 1080 and SD 720 (ok, so it's not really SD).  I turn on the SD version and the other one off.  I make my cuts and edits on my sequences and then when everythings all nice and purdy, I flip the switch back on the HD version and I'm ready for final rendering.
I have my "SD" version set at 720 so it's obviously smaller than the other clips so I don't inadvertantly leave it on for the final render.
Not a great workflow and adds some steps, but that's been my best workflow so far.

  • AME CS5.5 Hanging at 75% & Drive Update for NVIDIA GeForce GTX-470

    Hello,
I am having problems with AME CS5.5 hanging as well.  I was wondering if somone from Adobe can tell me if the latest Driver upgrade for my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 card of 285.62 is safe/recomended for Adobe CS5.5 Premiere/AME/Encore/After Effects programs.  I do not want to cause any additional issues with my Adobe related issues.  My present driver is 280.26...Thanks, Steve

I installed the update after creating a restore point.
I guess it's safe, but the behavior is the same.  I still have the hanging issue.
I hope that this bug gets fixed soon.,

  • GTX 470 Connections

I'm questioning how my GTX 470 card should be connected.
Image 7172 shows the harness connectors from EVGA and they are missing a pin (correct, per manual)
Image 7189 shows the harness from the CoolerMaster PSU but it has all the pins in it. This harness plugs into the PCIe side of the PSU
Image 7178 shows the card, with all the pins in it.
I would rather not use the wiring connectors I got from EVGA since each of the 2 connectors splits off into two 4 pin connectors for a total of 4 (molex?)
Can I use the harness that came with the PSU as it is or do I need to cut the wire that corresponds to the missing pin in the EVGA harness?
Maybe I'm just thinking too much but I would hate to see a plume of smoke coming from the case when I fire it up.
I hope I am being clear as to my problem / question. This is the last hurdle to overcome before I turn it on. (I think)
    Thank you in advance.

Your PSU should have atleast 2 of those 6 pin PCI-E connectors available. You don't need to cut off the extra 2 pin connector to use it. That is strictly for the bigger cards that require the 8Pin PCI-E connector.  Just plug in the 2x6 pin connectors and leave the 2 pin hanging.

  • GTX 470 MSI frozr twin ii - Mounting

    Hi,
I recently bought a twin frozr ii cooler for my GTX 470, however, I'm missing the screws to mount the cooler. Does anyone know, A. what kind of screws I need and B. where I can buy them from?
    Thanks,
    Lee

all i can really suggest is you take the cooler to a hardware shop (like Maplin as your in the UK and they will usually help as they want to sell stuff and they stock lots of weired obscure stuff) and ask them what size screw threads it has as that is the most important thing and there is nearly 0 information available about that but the biggest concern is if you are missing the retention springs as there nearly impossible to get...

  • MPE doesn't do its job well with GTX 470

    Hello,
I recently bough a new pc which i use for video editing with cs5:
    Intel Core i7-930 @ 2,8GHz
    12gb DDR3
Evga GTX 470 SuperClocked (for my first 2 monitors, Samsung F2380)
Evga geforce 210 (for my third monitor)
    128GB SSD / 2TB SATA300 hd's
As i stated above, the GTX 470 is used for my primary and secondary monitors.
When i use premiere with the MPE the results are really not that good: the video image stutters, even with simple tasks like a change in opacity. All bars are yellow, so the MPE is activated - in reality it just doesn't do that much. When i don't use the MPE  i can at least render to get a nice picture quality, but when the bars are yellow premiere "thinks" its just all good and i cant render witch results in crappy images again.
How do i solve this ? I just bought a € 3000 computer and now i cant really use it the way i bought it for...
Can someone explain to me how i can use MPE without stuttering ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind regards,
    mambo88

The Power management option in the global 3D settings should be changed from adaptive to Max Performance. Also you want to add the Adobe Media Encoder to the program list in the Nvidia control panel. Beyond that there really isn't anything else you need to change.
Using the card before the 5.0.2 update does not change the performance. The 5.0.2 just overwrites the previous cuda card list file anyway.
One of the main issues I have seen when overwriting the previous video driver is the fan control is messed up for auto and the card gets well over 70C at idle. This will  push the card way to hot during MPE use. That can definitely cause the performance problems you are having.

  • 3DMark Scores!! (Post Yours!)

I decided to make a thread for all the MSI forum users, to post their 3dmark scores!! Also once enough people have posted, I can make a list of who is leading in 2 categories, of AMD and Intel cpus.
    3dmark01=16800
    3dmark03=5445
(At 400mhz for my ram, it wont remember the fps in 3dmark01 )
(PS. Can we move this to the "Anything Under the Sun" forum. I meant to post there)

Here is a thread i started about 3dmark scores in 64bit forum and Here hope this helps in your testing the last link was when i was trying to see what ATI drivers didn't like K7N2 but is obsolete now.

I have configured my bios according to the settings guide on http://www.amdforums.com/showindex.php?s=&threadid=124482
Hard drive have also been defragged
I have also used River Tuner and have changed my settings from default to Core clock 279 Memory clock 567 that gave me an increase of around 400 points. But its still not what I had expected. what would be a safe limit to reach ?
I have the FSB set to 148x10.5
I would have thought my scores would have been around the 10,000 mark.
Anyone have any ideas as to why the score is so low or any ideas on how to improve performance.
I am so dam disapointed, it seems no matter what i try with this board it doesnt work.

    hey Grandad,
try closing/disable PC Alert 4 AND Cooler XP,
and don't forget the programs running at the background, such like anti-virus programs (McAfee/Norton). Those services must not running while benchmarking.
TIP: the time of benchmark is also important.
After starting WinXP/system your processor is cold.
And a much better cooling is very recommended.
10 degrees celcius colder means 1000 points more.
ATTENTION: Don't adjust the PCI reserved megabites (for DirectX/OpenGL) at the display (drivers) properties.
I did that once, i had a lack of 40 fps at every benchmark test.
i hope this is usefull for you.
Thats why i got 10025 points with my GF4 Ti 4200 XP  )
