Yesterday (6/18/2012) my phone rec'd maintenance update 6.01.605.05 710RD. Since this update my contacts pics no longer show in my sms app. I have little gray boxes beside all my message threads. Before the update, everyone's contact pics showed with their messages. Does anyone else have this problem? Can I uninstall this last update? It might be ok for some, but I find it extremely irritating not to have the contact pics with the sms text messages. Any help/suggestions welcome. I actually backed up and returned my phone to factory last night and that did not help. Thanks.

Yes imthe1who, that is exactly what happens!! Pics inside with the actual thread, but no pics on the main screen. And totally agree it makes it difficult for some reason to grab the right conversation quickly and efficiently. I too tried all the same things you did, finally resorting to factory reset with no success. Grrrrr is right!! And RainMan_JH is also right -- you would think someone would notice before sending the update out!! Sheez.

  • Wireless update freezes phone now stuck please help

my torch has started a wirless update but when getting through back up freezes between 8 an 20 % . Have noticed in forum that this is known but for a computer update you just take out this as a back up option but on a wireless update the phone is stuck if I do a battery pull and put itback after few mins it starts again and tries to update is there anyway to cancel update or solve this. tried pluggin into pc but doesnt do anything different. please help

    Hello,
A forced wireless update? I've honestly never seen that...quite unusual...normally, you must initiate the process. Nevertheless, as I'm sure you've seen, OTA updates are NEVER recommended for exactly the situation you are experiencing. The OTA update conducts an on-device backup, which is used to restore after a successful OS update. But, if anything should go wrong, that backup file is lost forever. Hence, updating via PC is recommended since you then have the opportunity to take a manual backup and store that resulting IPD file on your PC.
But, back to your issue...the update being forced is rather strange. If there's no way to prevent it, then perhaps you could try the following:
Turn off all network connections (both mobile carrier data network as well as WiFi) and then do a batt-pull reboot. See if the update continues to be forced...if not, then proceed with a PC/USB based update.
Failing that, try booting into Safe Mode and see if you can then keep the forced update from running:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
I've honestly never tried to update the BB OS (from a PC) when the BB is in Safe Mode, but you could give that a try and see if it helps.
Let us know how those attempts work out for you.
    Cheers!

  • Freezing phone and restoring deleted BB Messenger contacts.

I'm using a Blackberry Curve 9300, it seems to freeze a lot lately, sometimes for hours at a time. Like this morning it froze from 12midnight until 5:30am. When it freezes I get a black squared clock at the centre of my screen. I then decided to whip out everything on my phone thinking if I did that everything will be back to normal. After whipping out all my stuff now not only do I still experience the same problem of freezing, I now lost all my BB Messenger contacts that I can't restore. I now don't know what to do. Please help, how do I stop my phone from freezing all the the time and how do I restore all my contacts!

I think you mean "wiping" not "whipping, I understand now.
Did you do a backup of the device to your PC before wiping it?
Do you have BBProtect installed and backing up daily or weekly?
Before wiping, did you do a BBMessenger > Options > Backup Contacts? to either the media card or remote backup?
    For the freezing...
Do you have Memory Cleaner enabled (look at Options > Security > Memory Cleaning) and if you do, disable it.
What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.6.0.x.xxx", What is yours?

  • 8120 SD Card Freezes Phone

I have been having a tremendous amount of problems with my 8120 pear freezing.  T-Mobile tech support couldn't figure out the problem, and sent a replacement phone, and the new phone had the same problems.  I finally figured out it was the SD Card causing the problems.  The problems started when I updated my device software to the latest version.  I had a 4G card in it for a long time without a hitch, I bought an 8G card, and didn't have any problems either for several weeks until the software upgrade.  Now my phone freezes with the 4G or 8G card, I even bought a new 8G card thinking that was the problem.  Any way to downgrade to 4.3 software?  Any fixes?

    mikekell wrote:
My Droid X does the same.  It works fine w/o the SD card. I am able to access the SD card using my reader and am in the process of copying all the data off it (10 of 16 gigs used).
Any idea what is the problem if the SD card is readable?
    Thanks.
(I will eventually reformat the SD card and reinsert.  Will update with results of that after done and then if possible, after readding some data.)
Also, my phone has been crashing a lot lately anyway... particularly when using Google Maps.
Most cases like this there is a corrupt file on the SD card.  After you format the SD card and if it tests okay when put back in your phone, add the folders back on one at a time and reboot the phone.  When you find it doesn't reboot you know you found the folder with the bad file.

  • 6600 fold - number 6 freezes phone. a bug well kno...

I bought 6600 fold for my wife over 6 weeks ago. The phone is totally useless because of this feature: pressing number 6 too rapidly or at all(which is often the case when typing sms messages and you just need to use that 'n' or 'o'), totally freezes the phone. A reboot is needed to get it going again. I've encountered this bug even when typing the PIN code.
Nokia care centre replaced the device and the same "feature" seems to be issue in this new phone too. And yes, the latest firmware 5.60 was used in these 2 phones. So I rushed to to Nokia care centre again I was told: it's a software bug, will be fixed in release, don't know when.
So I did some research and I found out that this bug has been known for over several months now, and Nokia hasn't done anything about it. I wonder when Nokia bothersto fix this, the phone is absolutely useless now. Money well spent...

Ok, I had some previous posts...  That was in January, things happened since then.
Mine is a non-Nokia guarantee phone, it is from Nokia Asia, made to work in Hungary.
After several tries, the service has solved the problem.
The knew about the problem, they said it IS a hardware thing, not a software, so updating won't solve it.
after about 3-4 weeks they gave it back and since then, the phone is working.
I don't know what they did, I don't care either, it is working now. They said some part needs to be changed. Ohh, I remember now: first they gave it back, it was still buggy, then they have changed the motherboard, I have a new IMEI now, and it is working.
Nokia knows NOTHING about this, they say they haven't experienced **bleep** like this.
    Keep trying.

  • Camera freezes phone everytime!! - N8

I bought this phone (N8) for its camera capibilities, and now whenever I try to use it, it freezes the phone completely! Like **bleep**? This phone has been nothing but problems ever since I bought it new... Anyone have any insight?

    1)  it takes 2 weeks (10 working days - Monday to Friday except Sunday & public holiday) to repair my N8....This is because the shipment of the motherboard is delay.....It will take only 1 weeks (5 working days) if the the motherboard arrive earlier...
    2)  just bring your N8 together with original purchase receipt & original warranty to nearest Nokia Service Center.....You can find nearest Nokia Service Center either by refer to your warranty card or check on Canada's Nokia website....also you can ask help by dropping by at shop where your buy this Nokia N8
    note :
    -  before you send your N8 to Nokia Service Center....make sure you backup (in .nbu format) first all your data inside your N8 using either Nokia Suite or Nokia Ovi Suite...
    -  this is because they will format & delete all your data inside N8 (including mass storage E: ) & upgrade your N8 operating system to Symbian Anna (even you have update to Anna already)

  • Notifications freezing phone

It mainly happens while typing, but when I get multiple notifications in quick succession (such as someone sending 2-3 texts quickly) the phone will freeze while the notification banners slide in, unfreeze for a second, and then freeze again when the next banner starts to slide in. The phone will unfreeze one the banners have gone away.
It's very frustrating when a group conversation is going on and messages are coming in multiple at a time. It isn't only message notifications either. Any notification with a banner will cause this.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

I want to try this before I send mine back in. Just got a replacement. I dont understand what you mean when you state "formatting the user data and the cache". How do you do that?

  • Contact freezes phone

Here's an odd situation. My contact information (meaning the one tagged as "My Card" in Address Book) consistently freezes both my and my wife's iPhone. We first noticed it about a week ago when she tried to call me by looking through contacts and pulling up my number - phone froze. Now her phone doesn't ring when I call her, the call goes to voicemail and her phone freezes.
If I scroll through contacts on my phone and try to select my card, my phone freezes as well. I have already deleted My Card, re-created it and synced via MobileMe. The problem hasn't changed.
Any ideas? It's pretty frustrating that we can't even call each other.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

  • Photos Freeze Phone (nice alliteration eh?)

So, after months of squeeking wheels in the direction of my server I finally get a BB Pearl 8130. Still getting used to it but have come across a major issue involving the desktop manager, photos and the device.
I went out and got a micro SD for the thing, threw on a few hundred songs and all was going fine.
THEN I tried to upload 4 photographs. one got on the phone (the memory card) & then the entire desktop manager froze. i looked at my phone, scrolled over to see if the pic was on there, as SOON as I scrolled to 'MY PICTURES' in the device, the device froze.
I freaked. pushed buttons... eventually I did the battery removal bit... it started up again with my regular set up on the screen, but STILL FROZEN.
Troubleshot & found that when the memory card was out of the device, it worked fine.
Troubleshot the hell out of the photo files thnking they were corrupt (they're healthy).
Went out and bought a card reader so I could open the memeory card without the phone, opened it, photos worked fine from there. Scanned the whole card for viruses. nothing. deleted the photos fromt the memory card, pluged it back into the phone & it worked fine. Tried re-loading (through desktop manager) it all froze all up again.
Rewound the operation and wet at it again, this time loading photos though the card reader directly onto the memory card. That worked fine, until I stuck it in the phone & scrolled over to see them. As soon as I got to MY PICTURES on the phone ... guess what? FROZE.
There's nothing wrong with the Micro SD card it's working fine through the reader. My computer is a piece of crap, but it's healthy & runs fine when I rub it the right way. the problem lies in the phone when it's trying to access uploaded photos. The shots I take from the camera on the phone pose no problem. It's somewhere between the desktop software & the phone. But where what & why, I dunno.
Please help. I was really hoping my Blackberry experience was going to be helpful to me. I wanted it to organize my life so's I'd stop cursing all the time. I don't want to be perpetually cursing at the phone. (I did that enough with the Nokia)
thanks for any help you can offer.

'...cos everyone should have a nice piece of Trout to nail to the wall!'

thanks for clarifying. so far as those sorts of files in the device memory, I have one pic taken with the camera & one voice note. all other media is (still only just tunes) on the memory card.
i'm about to go about the tasks you suggest. If you see a small mushroom cloud emanating from somewhere on the west coast of Canada... I've done something wrong.

  • External display freezing & phone restarting

I've had an 8200 for just over a month now, and exchanged my original for a new one last week.  The original was powering off randomly and not turning back on without having the battery removed and replaced.
This one (in use for 4 days now) has begun restarting mid-call, and today the external display has frozen.  I've tried turning the phone off, waiting, and turning it back on, but all that does is turn a really old text message that I read last month into a 'new' message again.
I can call the phone, and the red light will flash and it will ring.  It answers just fine, but the display remains frozen.  If I then close the phone, the number I was calling from appears as the new frozen display.  I called it from a landline over 30 minutes ago, and the display still appears as that incoming call.
Is there anything that can be done for this, short of exchanging the device again?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Instead of just turning the phone off, a battery pull will resolve a lot of problems. It provides a
    better reset.
No data will be lost when doing the following: pull the battery while the device is ON.
Replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min, see if the problem is fixed.
    Thanks,

  • Freezing phone and non working keyboard

I just got my first Iphone, its the 3GS. Everything is good with it except that every once in awhile, certain parts of the screen (specifically when using the keyboard) stop working. I woud try and type a certain letter and it wont work, but the others work fine. I went to the ATT store i bought it from and they said to go to an apple store. I dont live close so i was hoping someone can confirm this as an actuall problem or help me fix the problem so i dont have to make the trip.

Have you tired anything to troubleshoot the issue?
If not here are some ideas.
First you can try Apple's troubleshooting assistant:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/
And then here is Apple's support document for troubleshooting:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1737
If that doesn't help then look into making a trip to the Apple Store where they will probably replace the iPhone if they are unable to fix it. I would highly suggest making an appointment with the genius bar that way you are guaranteed to see somebody for your issue and won't have to wait around for too long.

  • Thunderbolt not keeping default dialer after latest update (2.11.605.19 710RD)

Is anyone else having this problem?  I have Mr. Number installed but I use the VZW phone dialer as the default.  Since the update I will get asked what I want to use as the default dialer every once and a while, not sure what prompts this but I check the Use by default and pick the VZW dialer.  It works fine for a few days or until I re-start my phoen or something else occurs, (not sure what at this point) and I have to re-do the dialer default question.  I have had a couple of updates on Mr. Number so I don't think this is the problem and I have seen it on a few other apps like Navigation too.  Any help for this or just hold tight for the ICS update?
    Mike

Thanks, but I looked at this right away and it was set to the correct app, but then a few days later, I had to answer the question again, this has been going on since the update.
