4.2.1 What the? Bluetooth, alarm, voice recorder playback.

Updated to 4.2.1 4 days ago via itunes update, have an older iphone 3gs since then have had ongoing problems. Bluetooth now drops in and out. Cant play any voice memo via bluetooth on either of my bluetooth enabled vehicles, but phone still works for chat? Weird. Alarm just doesn't function at all anymore. was wondering of the top of my head how long Apple is going to keep its easy going and no hassle product claim. Seems to me its getting the same amount of flaws and issues as what has always plagued windows products. Certainly getting to the point of being unable to highly recommend apple products after huge issues of their video editing software on my mac (basically now given up trying to do so.) Anyway apart from having a shiny mac around the house, their doesn't seem to be much difference between the two worlds of pc anymore. Pitty was really thinking I was onto a great thing when I finally left pc a year ago.

So I have been attempting to use my 3GS after this 4.2.1 update and have run into some rather annoying issues. Here is a list of them, and I will update as I encounter more:
1) Touchscreen response is lagging, I had to press down for VIDEOS 7 times before the APP switched.
I noticed my screen lagging as well, really badly. I had to reset my iphone three times to fix it.
2) ALL of my custom ringtones have been RESET. ARE YOU SERIOUS! Why not just reset my entire phone to factory settings when you apply a software update Apple. I really love having to go back and reassign every caller to their individual ringtones all because Apple now separates ringtones made by iTunes and those created elsewhere.
Thankfully I did not have this issue.
3) No longer have NOTES listed in SETTINGS\MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS for syncing. I am not even sure when that option went away, from reading the discussions here, some folks lost it back in 4.1. But now I am not able to set up my notes for syncing with MobileMe.
I found that Notes now has its own listing under Settings:
SETTINGS\NOTES
4) FIND MY PHONE cannot find my iPhone when OFF. What is the point of this APP if all someone has to do when they steal my iPhone is turn it OFF?
Have not tried nor am I interested in trying something that from your account sounds to be another idiocy on Jobs/Apple's part.
5) USB cable that came with Apple's Bluetooth earpiece is no longer supported by my iPhone for charging. It was bad enough when Apple stopped supporting their own earpiece, but now I have to go out and purchase ANOTHER cable to charge my phone?
Sorry to hear that.
Since when did the company that was know for its innovation and superior products turn into Microsoft Jr?
I have a 3GS. We 3GS users got shafted with this update.

  • Does the 5g support voice recording

The specs page says that the 5g has voice recording. Does it?

Went to Apple store in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan today with a regular minijack microphone to test the G5 pod. Plugging the mic did nothing whatsoever, no menu poping up for recording like the iPod Photo does. Nonetheless, on the Apple page (http://www.apple.com/ipod/features.html) there is a screenshot showing literally "VoiceMemo" on the settings menu (settings of the main menu) and the techspecs do mention Voice recording settings:(Low (22.05 KHz, mono)
High (44.1 KHz, stereo). Wonder what's cooking but I sure hope the voice memo function will be soon available, otherwise I stick to the iPod Photo

  • What is the cause of electronic buzz during voice recording playback?

I have purchased a Sure 8900 microphone and have recorderd a couple of short files using recorder.xhead. It records fine, but upon playback, along with my voice is a very defined electronic humm in the background. I have recorded without my external speakers on - same problem upon playback. There are no dimmer switches in the area - something I've heard can cause such an electronic clip. The mic cord is very long. I have recorded some distance from the computer- same problem. Note: When I turn my speakers up loud, I hear the same noise. When I shut the computer off, this noise goes away, although the speakers are still powered. Please note: The sound seems to mimic and amplify what I believe is the low humm of the hard drive. Could there be a bad ground in the computer allowing this to bleed through to both the mic and the speaker jacks? Any ideas on cause an/or solution?

Thank you all for the input regarding grounding. This was the problem, but not from a power outlet. The Sure 8900 microphone is has a 3-prong "balanced" connector at the microphone, but then is adapted to 1/8 inch connector so that it will fit the "mic" input jack on the iMac. The result - a conversion of a balanced to unbalanced signal. After describing this to a technician a a local electronics store, he immediately said "You can't go from a balanced to an unbalanced input and not have grounding noise. The reason: one channel shares the ground - allowing the AC clipping to occur.
Solution: The 8900 mic comes with a 1/4 inch adapter making the mic "balanced" if connected. Put the 1/4 inch input over the 1/8 inch input, PLUG THIS INTO A USB mixer and into the USB port- problem solved - no more buzzing AND BETTER RECORDING QUALITY!!!

  • What's a good voice recording app I can use on my laptop and interface with iTunes?

Does anyone have a great recommendation for making home-made voice recordings that I can post on social media using iTunes?  Is there a particular app/recorder that makes it sound more professional than a home-made job?
    Thanks.

You can't plug a microphone directly into a Mac: you have to go through a mixer or a preamplifier to bring the voltage level up to the Mac's input level. Of course this doesn't apply to USB microphones, which can be plugged into a USB socket and will usually work straight off. The Mac's own microphone may be reasonable sounding - you can try and see what it sounds like - but obviously you musn't touch the Mac while recording and you will get better results with a decent external mic. (USB would probably be best, but they're not cheap.)

  • WHAT THE ****?? Random Audio playback

I have had similar problems and reconnecting did not always fix it. I had to actually delete the media file and reimport it THEN reconnect it.

  • The BEST voice recording filters

I want to achieve the *highest quality* voice recording I can using GarageBand for voice over work. I have a good quality USB cardioid mic with a pop filter, fairly good acoustics where I'm recording, and a little bit of experience with recording in general. I have experimented with several of the filters and effects included on GarageBand, but I can't seem to find just the right mix to produce a *pro quality* sound. Does anyone have any good advice on the subject? I sure would appreciate it.

If the question is how do I improve my recording using what I have...
Compression and EQ. If you don't know how to use those two tools you are fighting an uphill battle.
And how much room do you hear? With sensitive condensers your room may be a big problem.
Experiment with affecting your room and mic positions while recording. See if it improves things for you.
Use what ever you may have to deaden live and reflective areas. Use your ears until you are happy that you have the best possible incoming signal for your setup. Last thing you want is to have a recording that already puts you in a corner.
    An effect worth trying is...
Duplicating your VO track. Keep one dry and one wet using a light touch of delay.
The last thing is the mic you have 'may' not be suited to your voice....if EQ can't fix it then...
If you have a studio available close enough you can rent an hour cheaply and test mic's.
You can learn a lot very quickly being in that environment.

  • What's the best way to record a phone conversation to GB?

i am doing a small podcast with my best friend "the joseph podcast" and we have a few celebrities calling in to our show, we can't believe it either, Angela Kinsey from "the office" and Charlie Day from "it's always sunny in philadelphia" and we were wondering what the best way to record a phone conversation would be. we need help and we are pretty much poor so keep it cheap. thanks so much!

If I were trying to record something very important, likely "get one chance only" type of thing, I would not use GB to do the recording. I would use a tape recorder and then later transfer the recording to GB.
    I'd use something like this BELL-SONECOR TR-70 Tele-Recorder Adapter for $13.

  • Enough already with Voice Recorder's 1h limit, PLE...

I'm hoping this post will also be read by someone who works on the applications that are built-into Nokia phones.
I have recently made extensive use of the voice recorder feature of my Nokia N85, and I was reminded how extremely inconvenient the arbitrary one hour limit to the recording is.Thanks to it, one has to always check whether the hour has finished, and if it has, manually start another recording. If it hasn't, just check back...
I had to spend a good amount of time searching for third-party voice recorders, none of which I found satisfying, either because of their price or because of the fact that, for some reason, the recording quality never comes close to that of the in-built voice recorder. I therefore have to continue to go with it, although I really wish Nokia realised that it is ridiculous to cripple the functionality of an essential application, especially in more recent phone models.
I have 8GB on my memory card and want this to be the only limitation my voice recordings. The one hour limit may have made sense 10 years ago, but not any more, and I doubt any one appreciates a "legacy feature" like that. Please show a bit of flexibility, Nokia, and address this issue in your future firmware versions. Thank you.

I have to agree, this is annoying. So many choices made in included software seem to be placeholders for third-party or nokia-developed premium apps. Nokia provides quite a bit free of charge, and is good in so many ways, that I hope they'll reconsider the iPhonification of their lines and provide solid value with included apps, instead of charging for basic functionality.
hadimassa, no personal offense meant to you, but i have to respectfully disagree, this is exactly where grievances should be aired, and what we can do about it is discuss it.

  • Reduce base on voice recorder?

Hi I have the icd-ax412 voice recorder and wanted to know what are some good setting to reduce the base during concerts that allow voice recorders at the base makes the sound not so good on playback?

There's no bass settings adjustments on the ICD-AX412 Digital Voice Recorder. It is recommended to attach a tripod (not supplied) or opening the stand on the rear and placing the IC recorder at a more upright angle on a table when recording a music performance (e.g., concerts) so you can adjust the angle of the IC recorder and the built-in microphones more precisely.
Also, you cannot modify the Scene Select settings (page 34 of the manual). If you want to change the setting items, such as REC Mode (page 74), Mic Sensitivity (page 75), etc., for recording situations, use the menu to change each item of recording settings.

  • IPhone 4s running on ios 7.0.4 voice recorder

I have been using my iPhone on ios 6 for over a year and the voice recorder had no problems. After I updated my iPhone to ios 7 (I am currently using 7.0.4), the voice recorder showed 3 problems. First of all, it sometimes stops recording alone although I have more than 25 gb available in the memory. It also displays some of the recordings' durations as 00:00 and doesn't want to play them even though they take up part of the memory. The third problem happens when I'm listening to a recording and i try to unlock the phone for some reason. The recording stops playing alone. The ios 7 voice recorder is really disappointing and I have to use the recorder frequently. Any help? If I can't solve these problems, is there a way I can get the ios 6 voice recorder back??
    Thanks in advance..

It will show up depending upon the carrier. Many carriers do not allow the settings to be cganged so the settings will not appear.

  • WP8.1 MDM Restrictions - Voice record and safe search not working as expected

    Hi
I'm having some issues with the new restrictions -
    Voice recording
After setting Experience/AllowVoiceRecording to 0, voice recording no longer works as expected in the Nokia recorder app, however you can still voice record from other apps such as One note.  Is this expected or should this restriction be applied at
    OS level?
    Safe search level
Setting Search/SafeSearchPermissions to 0 or 1 causes the UI in settings > search for the level to be greyed out and states that it is disabled - but it does not show the correct level set.  It seems this restriction is not working or the values
    I am using are incorrect.
    Thanks
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
I was checking the documentation and it seems vague. However, I have a few thoughts...
Are you running this as PolicyManager/My/<Area>/<policy name> or PolicyManager/Device/<Area>/<policy name>? In Windows Phone 8.1, the PolicyManager configuration service provider is new. "My" path handles the policy configuration
request coming from the server and "Device" is a read only path to reflect the plicy values that are enforced at the device.
I would check to insure that you've set it up in the correct area. To troubleshoot, you could also try setting it up in either the opposite area and/or both areas.
    I hope this helps!

  • Olympus Digital Voice Recorder (VN960PC)

I have an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder (VN960PC). On the Olympus site they have no Mac OSX software [though they do have it for the Dark Side] that will allow me to download the audio files onto my mac mini [PPC].
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there any software that might enable me to do this outside of going to Boot Camp or Virtual PC?
Flat Panel iMac 20 inch 1.25 ghz, iBook 500 mhz, mac mini 1.42 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi, bikinijack.
    1. With the particular digital voice recorder you have, I suspect you are going to be out of luck. Olympus offers DSS Player for Mac OS X for their higher-end units, i.e. their DS-series digital voice recorders.
    2. I presume you've tried connecting the VN-960PC to your Mac via USB cable and found that its built-in storage does not mount on the desktop. True?
    3. I suspect DSS Player is not going to work with your VN-960PC, but if you hada DS-series recorder, here's how I'd advise you, based on having previously researched this question for a person with a DS-series player:The short answer is that if you install the DSS Player application that comes with their digital voice recorders, and then install the "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) V6 Update to V6.0.4" — which can be found using their Support - Downloads Web page — then the DSS Player software will work with Tiger.
They are planning to update their Web site to reflect this as well as provide a FAQ. The basic instructions are the following:
    • If your Olympus digital voice recorder comes with DSS Player V6, you simply install "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) V6 Update to V6.0.4" using the instructions in the Read Me file.
    • If your Olympus digital voice recored comes with DSS Player versiion 1.xx, you first install the "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) Upgrade from version 1.xx to V6" using the instructions in the Read Me file, then install "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) V6 Update to V6.0.4," again following the instructions in its Read Me file.
StuffIt Expander is required to unpack these downloads. Tiger, unlike prior versions of Mac OS X, does not include Stuffit Expander: see "Mac OS X 10.4: Where is StuffIt Expander?" If you don't have StuffIt Expander, a free download of such for Mac OS X 10.4 can be found here.4. Since your Mac Mini is PPC, your only real option for running Windows is Virtual PC. There are some other, open-source projects for getting Windows to run under Mac OS X, but Virtual PC is probably the "gold standard" in that arena.
If your 20-inch iMac is Intel-based, in lieu of Boot Camp you could also try Parallels Desktop for Mac. This leverages the virtualization technology of the Intel chips, permitting you to run Mac OS X and Windows simultaneously.
    Good luck!

  • WHY---------???? WHY can't I use my bluetooth for voice commands with the driods?

I purchased a droid1 and found out very quickly that my bluetooth COULD NOT BE USED WITH THE DROID OR VOICE COMMANDS-----IT IS NOT A HANDS FREE DEVICE!! I paired my bluetoot with the droid and expected to make calls as I did with my OLDER phone but NOPE-----IT WILL NOT WORK-------YOU HAVE TO "TOUCH" THE DROID TO MAKE A CALL BEFORE YOU CAN TALK VIA BLUETOOTH! WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING? A basic function (AND LEGAL) like voice command calling wasn't put into these driods? PLeaase..........what--why-----how-----could they overlook such a basic and legal requirement (MOST STATS REQUIRE HANDS FREE OPERATION)..............I'm baffled and extremely disappointed because I can not use any of these 'smartphones'=droids.
Be very careful before you buy one without being informed of this flaw--------the DROIDS are not HANDS FREE DEVICES--------sadly.

I had the same shock when purchasing 2 new Droids less than a month ago. The store rep emphatically told me that Bluetooth dialing worked but of course that was wrong. The Froyo 2.2 version corrects that -- if you haven't received an update notice from Verizon you can get it here: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/03/manual-android-2-2-update-for-motorola-droid/  and do it yourself. it's pretty simple.
