4.2, AirPlay and Keynote presentation

I wonder if we'll be able to send a Keynote presentation from my iPad to an AppleTV over AirPlay?

At present, keynote doesn't support AirPlay, but there is no reason it shouldn't. Apple, are you listening?
This would be a tremendously valuable tool for my business.

  • Merging video and keynote presentations

Is it possible in iMovie to combine a video of a person giving a presentation with a keynote presentation in order to creat the effect that we see at the keynote speeches. If not, does anyone know of any mac software that can do that?
    Thanks,
    Ged

When using a voice over using the record slide show facility, the timing of every slide is set when advancing to the next slide.
To enable manual timings on one slide, you will need to place individual sound files on each slide, created in a sound editing application such as QuickTime.

  • Since I put Mountain Lion on my MacAir my PowerPoint and Keynote Presentations freeze up when I am presenting.  This is so unacceptable when I have 75 - 500 people I am presenting in front of.   I can no longer use my presenter tool either.  Is there help

Since I put Mountain Lion on my MacAir, my Power Point presentations freeze up when hooked to an LCD projector.  I can no longer use my presenter clicker tool that moves my slides as I walk among my audiences.  This is totally unacceptable in the kind of work that I do.  The Genius Bar person told me to try Keynote but that is even worse.  I wanted to go back to Snow Leopard but because I have backed up my information on an external hard drive she said I cannot go back to Snow Leopard.  Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?  I have several presentations coming up in the next six weeks.

You need to move to Windows 7, because Apple is now releasing a new OS X version annually and it's playing havoc with people's hardware and software.
Windows 7 will get support until 2020, that's 8 years of software stability, however you do need to make System Restore disks, boot disk and another on a hard drive to self restore (like TimeMachine is for OS X)
Apple has no plans to change their currrent behavior as all they care about is selling new hardware with a shiny new OS X verison on it.
If you wait to move, what will happen is you'll lose that full 8 years and will have to swtich to a newer Windows sooner
Windows 7 machines are still widely avaialble, despite Windows 8 (a failure) being pushed currently.
Running three OS X operating systems on one machine is quite a chore reserved for only seasoned computer geeks, then it's only going to last X months as the next OS X version will be released, then the next a year after that.
Another method would be to get a virtual machine software (virtualbox is free) and install Windows 7 into that to ease your transitition if you cant' spring for a Windows 7 machine, preferablly a tower that will last a long time.
Here is a method to run Snow Leopard in Parallels, however it's a unapproced hack and not for the comptuer newbie.

We have no control over Apple's OS X release cycle, nor the third party developers who make their own decisions what to support.
Our only choice as users to stop using both products and seek software/hardware stability.

  • LCD Projector and Keynote Presentation - Do I need an adapter??

    Hi there -
I am presenting at a couple of conferences this week and have no idea which LCD projector they use at both places. However, I was told I should make sure I had an adapter. Anyone know what type they are speaking of? Where can I get them?
Hopefully this isn't too dumb of a question!

Ha! I feel dense! I was wondering what that was. The cord is so short that I figured it could be that, but now that I think about it, it doesn't need to be long because it uses the LCD cord as well...duh..thanks!

  • Using keynote presentation on projector have had brief loss of signal

I have changed projector and iPad and still experience during keynote presentation a brief loss of signal to projector.
This happens at random and keynote presentation restarts on projector. Tried every source to help and followed all advice and it still
happens at random.  Can play a movie using same gear no problem at all; Please Help.

Please do not type in all caps, that is considered shouting on a public forum and also rude which I am sure is not your intent. I would also suggest reposting in the Keynot forum, that is where the Keynote gurus are likely to be.
    Good luck.

  • Can I present a keynote presentation using airplay and Apple TV? How do I set up airplay ?

Can I present a keynote presentation using airplay and Apple TV? How do I set up airplay ?

    Hi Andy,
You can do this reasonably easily.
First up you need to think about how you are going to drive the TV- Your iMac could do it, but a laptop would be easier if you can access one.
Second you need to look at the screen inputs. If it is a flat screen TV it is likely to have at least a VGA connection which you should have a connector to 'out of the box' and it will work much like connecting your mac to a projector would.
If not you'll probably need a connector for your mac that outputs composite (a single RCA connector) or S-Video to connect. You'll need to do this connection and find out the resolution the display supports before the big day (I live in a country with PAL which typically is 720x576). Make the Keynote presso the same resolution and you should be all good. A test drive is essential!
Here's a typical adapter from the Apple Store

Just as a thought- you could just burn a DVD with the images- it's pretty simple to set up (with transitions) a photo library in iDVD, though a little more tricky if you need the images to appear at certain times.

  • Airplay, mirroring, Keynote and image resolution

There are two ways in which a Keynote presentation running on iPad 2 can be mirrored on an external monitor: (1) through Airplay and Apple TV, or (2) by connecting directly to a monitor using the Digital AV Adapter.
My question: is the resolution of the images in the Keynote presentation (which were prepared on a Mac and not on the iPad) impaired in any way when they're displayed on the external monitor? Are both of the above methods equally good?
Or expressed in another way: Would the images look sharper/better if the Keynote presentation was running on a Mac laptop connected to the external monitor?
Your input/help on this would be much appreciated!

Sounds like an OSX issue... try posting to the appropriate Mac forum.

I would appreciate it if someone could advise me as to the optimum resolution, dimensions and dpi for actual photographic slides that I am scanning for use in a Keynote Presentation, that will be projected in a large auditorium. I realize that most projectors in auditoriums that I will be using have 1024 x 1200 pixels, and possibly 1600 x 1200. There is no reference to this issue in the Keynote Tutorial supplied by Apple, and I have never found a definitive answer to this issue online (although there may be one).
Here’s my question: When scanning my photographic slides, what setting, from 72 dpi to 300 dpi, would result in the best image quality and use up the most efficient amount of space?
Here’s what two different photo slide scanning service suppliers have told me:
Supplier No. 1 tells me that they can scan slides to a size of 1544 x 1024 pixels, at 72 dpi, which will be 763 KB, and they refer to this as low resolution (a JPEG). However, I noticed when I looked at these scanned slides, the size of the slides varied, with a maximum of 1.8 MB. This supplier says that the dpi doesn’t matter when it comes to the quality of the final digital image, that it is the dimensions that matter.  They say that if they scanned a slide to a higher resolution (2048 x 3072), they would still scan it at 72 dpi.
Supplier No. 2: They tell me that in order to have a high quality image made from a photographic slide (starting with a 35 mm slide, in all cases), I need to have a “1280 pixel dimension slide, a JPEG, at 300 dpi, that is 8 MB per image.” However, this supplier also offers, on its list of services, a “Standard Resolution JPEG (4MB file/image – 3088 x 2048), as well as a “High Resolution JPEG (8 MB file/image – 3088x2048).
I will be presenting my Keynotes with my MacBook Pro, and will not have a chance to try out the presentations in advance, since the lecture location is far from my home, so that is not an option.
I do not want to use up more memory than necessary on my laptop.  I also want to have the best quality image.
One more question: When scanning images myself, on my own scanner, for my Keynote presentations, would I be better off scanning them as JPEGs or TIFFs? I have been told that a TIFF is better because it is less compressed.
Any enlightenment on this subject would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range.  Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote.  Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation.  Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs.  Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get.  There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') .  See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there.  Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

  • I have a 2010 iMac 21.5, and have updated with Maverick. Now I can't open the pages or modify the keynote presentation I am working on.

I recently updated my 2010 iMac 21.5 to MAVERICK. Now I have installed new versions of Pages and Keynote. I have been working on a KEYNOTE presentation that I am modifing for a new presentation at month end, and I can not insert new script. The template is blocked.
Also, when opening an existing PAGES, I get the message that a new version must be installed and it directs me to the app store to buy it for $19.95. Even though these new editions were installed free with MAVERICK, do I now have to purchased these updates?

Did you make the Keynotes presentation in the old or the new Keynotes, if you made it with the old version and try to modify it with the new there could be some incomaptibilites. Try opening the presentation with the original version of Keynotes which will probably be located in the Applications folder under iWork.
Does the message state you may or must purchase an upgrade. For most tasks the old Pages will work on many occasions.
I have the latest Pages to allow my devices to share over iCloud but I have not upgraded Numbers or Keynote as I do not require the functions the lastest versions provide.

  • Is there any way to view a keynote presentation and the presenter notes on the iPad at the same time?

Is there any way to view a keynote presentation and the presenter notes on the iPad at the same time? My professors at school have keynote presentations and i take notes during class with the presenter notes feature. I was wondering if there was any way i can view both of them on the same screen on my iPad while studying? This way I could see their slides along with the notes i take during class.

None that I know of. Suggest to Apple.

  • HT3697 I am trying to convert a Keynote Presentation to a cross platform PDF file. When using export it creates a 30mb file when it only need to be 2-3mb and so cant email or use it very easily. How do I get the file size down?

I'm trying export a Keynote presentation to PDF, or other format, to use on Windows PC, iPad and other devices.
The file Keynote create is way too large at 30mb+. So cant email or share it very easily
If I print it and to Adobe PDF I can get it to 3mb, but have to crop it manually, and some settings or graphics are not so good or accdeptable!
Does anyone know how to do this?

Use Dropbox to send large files that cant be sent using email:

  • I have several keynote presentations on my computer but now am getting the message that the program cannot be installed "because of a problem." All this started when I bought microsoft office for  University (2011). What is the problem and how can I fix

I have several keynote presentations on my newish computer but am not unable to open them. I get the message "keynote cannot be installed because of a problem" (unspecified). Does anybody know why this happend? Does it related to using Microsoft "University"  2011? How can I fix it? Thanks!

    Thank you for your reply.
I just tried the 3-step process suggested on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2431353
This all started when my mouse/thumb clicker was going crazy. Found an expanded battery. Obviously need a new battery. Unfortunately must wait 6 weeks to get my new battery. Meanwhile, I'm running my computer on AC only, as there appears to be no other option. I was informed that when using AC only (no battery) some high-energy-use programs like Office might not function.
Do you know if there is away to use office even when just using AC and not having the battery in? I'm doubting if I have other OSX problems because everything else works: email, safari, itunes, iphoto, quicktime, etc . . . . ?

I have downloaded many of my previous Keynote presentation into my new ipad mini and not ONE has opened properly
Rather defeats the purpose of icloud, synching, Keynote on IOS etc doesn't it?
    Any tips anyone?

Thanks for this Gary. Much appreciated. Will help with future ones.
Still a bit like using keynote in 'safe mode' and very limiting.
If anyone produces an 'auto convert' app that will save me the work of fixing existing presentations slide by slide, I'm buying it :-)
    Thanks again
