4.2 Update Failure. "The network connection timed out"
After downloading 4.2 just before installation the error message pops up:
"The was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "XXX". The network connection timed out.
Make sure your network setting are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
This happens on different machines in different locations (IPs).
What is it and to fix it???
I have had the same problem trying to update to 4.3 on both my iphone 4 and my kids' ipod touches. The problem seems to come after the huge 400-700MB downloads when itunes extracts the software or verifies the download with Apple. This is what seems to get blocked by the firewall.
Turning off Kaspersky Internet security for the duration of the software download and update sorted the problem.
I could not find a different solution. Once it is completed then you can re-enable your security software.
If you are really paranoid about turning off your security software then I guess you will need to mess around with the firewall settings to allow itunes free access through the firewall but it may take some trial and error.

Can not update iphone firmware using iTunes "The network connection timed out"
Hello,
I can not update the iphone firmware using iTunes.
Messagte displayed
"There was a problem downloading the software fo the iPhone. The network connection timed out.
Also seen stopped error -3259
I have run network connectivity tests from iTunes and All Tests passed.
Can anyone help?
Thank you,
JoanDid you make sure it was the exact file for your device and the latest version? I just downloaded the latest file for my iPhone4, put it in the folder I mentioned above and it ran the install versus downloading the file. This problem where it times out after downloading is a big Bug within iTunes that has been there ever since IOS 7.0 was released. I wished these apple developers would just fix iTunes. There are a ton of complaints about this issue. I sure miss Steve Jobs running this business, I really feel like it's gone down hill after he left.
I hope this helps!

I am trying to download an update to my iphone, but in the middle of the download, I get an error message that reads, 'There was problem downloading the software for the iphone. The network connection timed out'. Any idea how to reslove this issue?
Hi Robertfrom Denver.
Did you try the solution given, and if yes, did it work?
I have done several "attempted downloads, and see the full file download, typically taking 30 minutes to complete, and then something goes wrong.
I am happy to suspend AV and FW software, but would like to know if it is a good fix or not first?

"The network connection timed out" Update/Restore using iTunes
Can anyone help with this problem. Ever since IOS 7.0 was released, iTunes is so broken when it comes to updating the software or restoring iPhones. Everytime I try to restore or update I get the error "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The network connection timed out." after waiting for the 20min download. For one thing there is nothing wrong with my network connection it's fine, I cannot access the itunes store the whole nine yards, it's just when I need to update or restore the phone. It takes 20 mins to download then it gives me this stupid error. I have tried everything I've seen on the forum that others have tried with disabling virus scanners and other 3rd party software and nothing! The funny thing is, it happens on every computer in the house, even my Mac notebook, so it seems like it's tracking the Baja network connection, but I don't have any problems with anything else we are using, it's just with iTunes. We were using OpenDNS, so I removed that from the router and I still have the some problem. Does anyone know a way around this problem. I am so ready to bail on apple products. Frustrating....
I would appreicate any help in resolving this problem....

I am trying to update to iOS5 on my iPad 2, but after the download completes, and file processing starts, I get an error message "There was a problem downloading the software ... the network connection timed out." Diagnostic tests check out OK. Any suggestions?
Temporarily disable your firewall and security software and see if that helps.

The only thing I can identify as an issue is that your Windows Firewall is running and iTunes is not enabled in it, so this may be the source of your issue. Here is an article for you that will help you rectify this situation:
