4:3 becomes 16:9 when encoded to DVD with Encore

Hi,
I have three sequences in a project.  Two are 16:9 HD and one is a 4:3 slideshow that came from a power point presentation.  When i burned to Blu-ray using Encore everything came out in the correct aspect ratio.  However, when I burned the same 3 sequence project to mpg 2 DVD the 4:3 slideshow came out 16:9 and, of course, the geometry of the pic is incorrect.
First, are there any suggestions as to how I can correct this?
Second, I can't figure out why it happened with the DVD and not the Blu-ray?  BTW, when I playback on the Encore monitor the 3rd sequence shows the correct 4:3 aspect ratio.
  Suggstions appreciated.  Tom B.

It was a slideshow converted to a videoclip.  I added the video to the end of the timeline.  Here:
I cannot find the option in the properties panel to select 4:3 or 16:9,  this is what I am seeing.
also...................
Where should I look for the option ?

  • 30 fps projects automatically become 25 fps when export a DVD from share menu

I shoot some video at 30 fps.  I made a project setting to match that.
My 30 fps projects becomes 25 fps when I make DVDs from FCPX share menu.
I thought it would make 29.97 DVDs but somehow FCPX makes PAL DVDs.
I tried different settings: all 23.98, 24, 29.97, 60 fps projects give me 29.97 DVDs when I share from FCPX.
Only 30 fps projects does not give me 29.97 but 25.
Do you know why that happen?

I am bit confused.  It is not easy to make 29.97 out of 30 fps yet let FCPX handle the frame rate change?
Of course we should have the right fps setting when we shoot.  I guess it is still best option at this stage to set FCP project 29.97 and let it do the math.
If, though, I am okay to have my source video slow down tiny bit, then using Compressor for frame-to-frame conversion will assure the best quality?

  • Error when tryying to burn ny dvd with Encore

I am getting a error when tryying to burn ny dvd with Encore
PCG "baseball_and_more" has an error at 00;00;00.
Internal software error:0% line basball_and_more -PGC Info name == baseball_and_more ref == Bpgc, time 00;00;00
Anyone know what this is due to?
If I add another clip before the base_ball_and_more then I get the same erro but at 16:45:0I 4
This seems related to changing the M/N field in the adobe media encoder. If I use defaults while encoding in premier
I dont get them error in Encore. But if I change the defaults ( hope fully to get better DVD results) I get the error.

First, back on the main page http://forums.adobe.com/community/encore enter
    pcg
into the SMALL forum search window on the right and read previous discussions
Second, try exporting from Premiere as DV AVI type 2 and give that to Encore... use the Automatic encoding setting and let Encore make the decision on what will best fit on a DVD

  • How can I increase resolution when burning a dvd with elements 11 premiere

How can I increase resolution when burning a dvd with elements 11 premiere
I am trying to generate a slide show DVD....the pictures on the TV are poor quality

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve points out, a DVD-Video is set in resolution, to 720 x 480 (for NTSC), in either Standard 4:3, or Widescreen 16:9. That is as good as it can get, and is not a limitation of PrE, but of the DVD-Video specs, which were written a long time ago.
The best that one can get is to play that DVD-Video on an up-rezzing DVD player, or most BD players, that also have up-rezzing, to an HD TV monitor. Those players have dedicated chips, JUST for up-rezzing.
Then, and per Peru Bob's questions, I attain the ultimate Still Images to DVD-Video, by doing my Scaling in Photoshop, and using either the Bicubic Sharper, or Bicubic Smoother Scaling algorithms. I Scale my Camera RAW Images to match my Project's Frame Size, and Crop, where necessary to match the Aspect Ratio of my Images, to the Aspect Ratio of the Project, i.e. if going to a 16:9 Widescreen, I will lose some pixels top and bottom, but I account for that, per my asesthetic.
Note: some PrE users insist that the Scaling in PrE is as good as Photoshop's, but my critical eyes point to using PS. Also, I do NOT use JPEG, which is a lossy, compressed format, and will Save_As PSD from Photoshop, for ultimate quality.
Good luck, and please let us know the pixel x pixel dimensions of your Images.

  • No sound when playing burned DVD with Windows Media Player

    Hello!
I made a 10 minute movie which I burned , tested and delivered today.
But it turns out that when playing the DVD with WMP, there is no sound.
I had tested the movie playing it with powerDVD, and it worked as it should. When playing it with a normal DVD player and TV it works allright.
But I had not tested it with WMP. And sure enough, when playing it with WMP there is no sound!
The ones who will show the DVD will do it from a computer to a video projector, and maybe they don't have a "proper" DVD program installed. But I heard that there was sound when playing with "VLC" which is a relief.
But I feel the need to get to the bottom of why there is no sound with WMP? Any clues?

In NTSC-land, one has but two choices: PCM/WAV or DD AC3, which is a particular "flavor" of MPEG. In PAL-land, one does have the option of MPEG (not DD AC3) as an option, but that seems to be falling out of favor.
When MS was re-tooling WMP, they wanted to add back the functionality of commercial (pressed/replicated) DVD's, but sought to limit any burned DVD's. Do not know what the mindset is now, so much could have changed with a few iterations of WMP. I have to admit that I just do not reach for it that often.
In the Project, or Disc, menus, one can tell En which Audio Transcoding to use. As John T, suggests, I would definitely do a test with PCM/WAV, and X my fingers.
If your client(s) is/are set on WMP as the player, there is hopefully a scheme that you can get to work. Also, remember that some older versions of WMP might not play the DVD at all, unless one finds the right plug-in, that basically hacked the intended setup in those older versions. Just like when delivering to a client, and not knowing their systems' calibration, or setup, trying to cover every base in a particular player software might involve a lot of work, and prayer.
    Good luck,

  • How do I prevent snags when buring my DVD with a soundtrack for playback on a DVD player?  It only plays clearly on the computer itself.

I totally get how to create a DVD with a great soundtrack on my computer.  I put the whole thing together and when I play it back in preview, it plays beautifully.  However, when I select "burn" and burn it do a disk and then go to play it on my DVD player hooked up to my TV, there are rough spots---times when the sound goes out and then comes back on, etc.
Someone wrote me and said to choose "save to disk" first and then use disk utility or Toast to burn it at a slow speed.  I tried doing this and when I selected "burn to disk" it only came up as an audio file and a separate video file, so I was lost at that point.
Any ideas of why this discrepancy might be happening?  I'd appreciate any of your thoughts!
    Thanks!
    Rick

okay, I can help you a little bit. your dvd player (standalone) plays mpeg-2, I think, so
in order for a disk to work in it, both the audio and video have to be combined into a whole package, which i think is video_ts.Using Toast, choose video, then dvd-video then drag n' drop, and it may work. As far as  i know, disk utility cannot make video dvd's, but  I may be wrong, and you may be right. I used iDVD, but there are probably other programs that may do as good a job of burning. Oh, and this is most important: Some blanks will work ok, and others won't. Verbatim, maxell ( I think) and Taiyo Yuden will work fine. the other ones are a gamble. I think what it's supposed to do is called muxing. I'm sure someone will correct me on this. You could try using "Burn" which is relatively cheap or Handbrake and see if that will do what you want to do. not that it's super important, but the amount of Ram in your machine is helpful too
    anyways, good luck

  • Motion Graphics quality loss when encoding to DVD

I have completed a logo reveal and movie titles for our short film that we will be authored to DVD. I used AE CS4 and created the compositions as 1050x756 PAL square pixels.
The uncompressed AVI renders look amazing. However, when i encode using MPEG2-DVD straight from AE there is a big hit on quality. I understand that encoding is about compressing and that we need to expect a certain amount of quality loss. But the text is especially bad.
I read somewhere that saturated reds are not particularly well handled by the MPEG-2 encoders. So we changed the color to a more subdued burned orange. We also remove the titles horizontal scroll on the screen that was causing excessive flickering. But there is still a high rate of quality loss on the text.
Is there any special workflow that i should be using, tips or tricks that you know of? I see some awesome intro titles on DVD and the text does not behave in this way.
Any pointers and suggestion you can give, would be greatly appreciated

    Robert:
The MPEG-2 encoder in AE/AME is a very good, general purpose encoder.
Commercial DVD titles frequently use high-end, specialized encoders. This includes very expensive, hardware-based encoders.
That said, you could get better quality from the MPEG-2 encoder in Adobe applications by using 2 pass encoding. Unfortunately, the Render Queue in AE only can do 1 pass encoding. In order to use 2 pass encoding, you'd have to launch Adobe Media Encoder in standalone mode, pick an MPEG-2 DVD preset and enable 2 pass encoding.
Specialized encoders include, for example, Cinemacraft SP. It can do multipass encoding and offers a great deal of control over encoding settings. Even as a software-based solution, it's not cheap.
It's also worth pointing out that type for highly compressed media has its' set of do's and don't's. Applying a very subtle vertical blur (Reduce Interlace Flicker) usually helps. Fonts designed for high-resolution media (most families with serifs) need to be used at large sizes, or use sans serif typefaces for smaller sizes, etc.

  • No Video, only Audio when building a DVD in Encore CS6

    Hi everyone!
First post here, and I apologize if this has been somewhat covered in other posts, I couldn't seem to find any similar issues in this matter, and I pray someone here can help.
I'm new to DVD authoring, and just started using Adobe Encore CS6 over the summer. I shot a dance recital, and after following some tutorials, made an awesome DVD that was very well received.
However, my last two DVDs have not come out working properly.  I imported .m2v files from HC Encoder (DVD Compliant, max 7500kbps for safety) into Adobe Encore CS6, where the .m2v files say "Don't Transcode." They play just fine in the timelines in Encore.
When I build the DVD to either a folder, image, or disc, only audio plays for the video portions of the DVD. The only way to get the video to play is if I run the DVD through VLC. I tested in Windows Media Center (on Windows 8) as well as my PlayStaton 4, and the black picture with audio persists for each video element of the DVD.
Between making the DVD of the dance recital and the DVD today, I have gone through at least two complete system restores, if this is something that could possibly have made things go awry. If it helps to know, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Oops, sorry!
I imported an *.m2v file along with a *.wav file, both the exact same durations and lined up correctly in the timeline.  In the project panel, for the *.m2v it says "Don't Transcode" for Status and "Don't Transcode" for Settings; for the *.wav it says, "Untranscoded" for Status and "Automatic" for settings.
That's all that Encore's telling me about the files.
Side note, interestingly enough, I went back and re-exported the DVD of the Dance Recital that I had mentioned earlier, and it plays just fine. (I'm trying to compare the two projects as best I can) It seems as if the *.m2v file that I made in HCEncoder for the recital plays just fine in Windows Media Player, however my most recent ones do not.  But they still play in Encore.  Needless to say, I'm baffled.

  • Out of sync audio when burning a DVD with iDVD

    Hello Folks,
I'm trying to burn 3 - 1 minute quicktime files to a DVD using iDVD 7.1.2 and everytime I burn a disc the sound is out of sync. It seems to speed up and finish about 10 seconds earlier than the video. When previewed all is fine. I have checked the 3 quicktime files and they are perfectly in sync when played. Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

    Hi Bengt,
Thanks for replying ! I spoke with tech support and we tried everything including saving it as a disk image but after the burn it still was out of sync.
Then we tried creating a project in i Movie and then imported (shared) the project into i DVD and it worked !
This was a frustrating issue to tackle but I'm ready for it if it happens again.
Thank you very much for your help. Have a great day.

  • Quality problems when burning a dvd with Premier Elements 11

I purchased a while ago, but just recently installed Premier Elements 11.  I previously had 9 and 10.  11 was great until I burned to a disc.  The quality is very substandard. Have you come up with a fix for this?  I have read many other complaints about the quality of burning.
Until I can get a fix, I have uninstalled 11 and gone back to version 10.

    Irene
Thanks for reporting on your results. Much appreciated.
Do you have the opportunity to record 1080p instead of 1080i? If so, we would be interested in the results. But, for now, just some miscellaneous comments.
    1. What are you using to apply the pan and zoom effect?
    Pan and Zoom Tool
Keyframing of the Motion Position property for Pan and Motion Scale property for Zoom
Presets under fx Effect/Presets for pan or zoom.
Are you applying the same pan and zoom effect to each of the photos?
If so (an not using the Pan and Zoom Tool),
Pan and zoom one photo, then copy/paste effects and adjustments for a group selection of the rest.
If using the Pan and Zoom Tool, then consider
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Pan & Zoom Tool, More Than One Photo at a Time
This is acceptable for a few photos, but the increased duration that it will add to the Timeline content may make it prohibitive.

Recently upgraded to CS4 from CS3 on my HP-9300 workstation. When encoding for DVD from the Premiere CS4 timeline I've noticed that there are no options for adjusting bit-rate. This functionality was available for the PC on CS3, why is it missing from CS4? Am I doing something wrong?

  • Encoding in DVD SP

I have a 150 min. dance program that I am trying to burn with 7 menus and 36 buttons. I have customized the encding down to 1 pass at 3.6 and at the very end of burning it tells me that I don't have enough media output. I am burning to a DVD -R 4x which has always worked before.
I am deperate to burn a good looking DVD for my client.
    Please help.

    Hello Cecilla,
It is possible to get a 150 minute video on a standard DVD. I'd like to know how you are conducting your encoding? Did you run your source video through Compressor before bringing it into DVD Studio Pro? Or are you using DVDSP to handle the encoding?
One thing I'm assuming is that your audio is still AIFF and not AC3. When encoding for DVD, it's highly recommended that you not only encode your video to M2V, but your audio to AC3 (Dolby). The main difference between AIFF and AC3 is that AIFF is uncompressed, and in that state can give you large file sizes, and will take up a lot of bandwidth on your DVD. AC3 compression will greatly reduce audio file size and bandwidth, thus allowing you to fit more on a single DVD.
My typical workflow when authoring a DVD is export the video and audio through compressor, then take the resulting M2V & AC3 files directly into DVDSP. I normally use my own custom settings when encoding for DVD. Those settings can be found here.
I also recommend that you take a look through this site for a better detailed description on how to build a DVD.
    Hope this helps!

  • PE8 in Windows7: cropping a still picture does not encode to dvd properly

Within PE8, the cropping top, bottom, left and right appear to be correct but when encoded to dvd, the image is either hashed on one side or not cropped at all.  I have other pictures within the same project that are cropped and encode correctly.  It appears that there are limits of cropping, i.e., if you crop more than 14% on a side ... the only way I could get around this is to crop the picture externally in photoshop and use this copy in the project without using the cropping feature in PE8. Any thoughts on what the problem could be??
I have a Intel i7-860 cpu with 8g ram; evga gt200 graphics card and lots of internal drive space.

Thank you to Bill Hunt and Steve Grisetti for your replies.
I am using the Project Setting of HDV-720p (1280x720).
My default on the "Scale to Frame Size" is un-checked.
The two pictures in question that are 3700x2800 pixels & 4890x3400 pixels respectfully.
So both pictures used Property>Motion>Scale of 24% & 18%. They also use the Video>Effect>Crop with the Top of 22% or Bottom of 24%.
As a test, I created two separate projects:
         . project setting of HDV-720p (1280x720)
. project setting of STD (720x480)
Each project used the same two pictures in the following scenarios:
. picture #1 & #2 with the "scale to frame size = unchecked as well the pictures with the "scale to frame size" = checked
. for the clips with scale to frame size = unchecked, the Property>Motion>Scale were reduced to 24% & 18%
. for the clips with scale to frame size = checked, the Property>Motion> Scale were increased to 110%
Prior to creation of DVD output to folder all pictures in PE8 look properly scaled and cropped.
    The results of the tests:
. project setting of HDV-720p generated picture #1 with "scale to frame size" = unchecked as if no cropping was applied; picture #1 with the "scale to frame size" = checked was correctly cropped.  Picture #2 with both unchecked & checked options generated okay.
. project setting of STD (720x480) generated all pictures cropped correctly.
So, looks like the cropping effect works okay for STD but may have problems with the HDV setting when using "scale to frame size" = unchecked.
Most of my pictures are in the 3500x2600 pixel range so I will take your advice and use the "scale to frame size" = checked for the bulk of my project and use the "unchecked" option for only those that I want to pan or zoom.  Also I will consider doing more intensive cropping externally (like in Photoshop) before importing into PE8.
