4:3 to 16:9

Hi I've recently completed a film which I shot on a 4:3 camera but masked for 16:9. I've edited the footage in 4:3 and applied a widescreen matte to give me the 1.85:1 that I wanted.
Now my question is how do I output the film so it plays in widescreen on a widescreen tv. If I output the film to DVD its basically still a 4:3 image with a matte. What do I need to do to get it into DVD Studio Pro 4 in a 16:9 format?
Also can you explain anamorphic to me and how and if that should apply to what I'm doing?
Thanks in advance

Hi! Did you edit in Final Cut? If yes, crreate a new sequence. Then go to the menu "sequence"/"settings",then choose ccir dv pal (or ntsc if you're booorn in the usaaaa...); same thing for the compressor. On the right of the window, check "anamorphic"
Then, in the bin, simply drag'n'drop you original sequence. Click "w" so that you can see thepicture and the wireframe. Zoom the picture so that it can fill the 16x9 frame.
Then, you can export in dv, and do not forget to check 16x9 or anamorphic. Same thing on DVD studio pro.
Voila!
ps: do not hesitate to email me fot further info!
