4.9/5.0 Playlists There but contents missing

When I import my Library or copy library files into either iTunes 4.9 or 5.0, the library fills ok with all my music and the previously created playlists show ok down the left hand side but when I click onto a playlist they are empty and not showing the songs that used to be in them. Any suggestions to restore this or will I have to fill each of the playlists again?

I experienced a similar problem - the names of the playlists restore but not their contents. The only way I found to fix it was to go back to my previous version of iTunes (I had made a backup of the iTunes folder prior to doing a mass import) and Export Song List on each playlist individually, then import them into the new version.
If you find a better way, do tell me, as I have at least 100 playlists!

I downloaded file and when I hover over the file and move to the right the files are there but when open says files missing how do I recover??

You can download the 10.6.8 combo update from the Apple download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/ . The combo update includes all prior updates, which would include the App Store application in 10.6.6.

  • Events there but Calendars Missing? (Version 2.0.5)

When I open iCal, there are not any events showing up in the Month view - it's totally blank. When I click on Week or Day view they all appear and when I go back to the Month view they are all there. There are NO calendars showing up in the left side window but they are all listed if I click on an event over in the info window. Every time I tell it to add a new calendar, it will list a new untitled calendar in the event detail drop down list in the event information window but still nothing shows up under my calendar list. (yes, my backup is gone - it's a long painful story.) Is there any way to get my calendars listed again in the Calendar window?

    iSlaw,
    1. Backup your existing calendar data base with iCal>File>Back up Database... (Backup twice to different locations).
    2. Use iCal>File>Export... (each one of your calendars individually).
    3. Delete all of your calendars. You will not be able to delete the last one.
    4. Quit iCal.
    5. Start iCal, create a new "Fake" calendar and then delete the calendar that remained in step 3.
    6. Quit iCal.
    7. Delete the plist file again.
    8. Start iCal and use iCal>File>Import... to incrementally import the .ics files that you exported in step 2.
    9. Delete the calendar that you created in step 5.
You should test iCal performance after each incremental import in step 8. If you have a bad calendar that should at least help you isolate it.
If that is not successful, my next question would be...Why have you not updated to 10.4.11?
    ;~)

  • I suddenly have problems syncing my itouch. when i connect it to the computer, it shows that i still have all of my songs and playlists. But when i look on my itouch, it says i have no content in the music section. and when i try to sync it, there's error

I wanted to listen to some new music i added to my itouch, but when i looked, it said no content in the music section. So i connected to the computer and opened itunes. My device showed up and everything, my playlists and songs where still there, but my itouch still showed No Content. Then i tried to sync it, and there's always an error popping up, so now i have no idea what to do! I have too many songs to start over again! And the iTunes i am using now was not my original one because my old computer broke so i got a new computer and new iTunes, so this iTunes doesn't have all of my songs. i'm sick and tired of being afraid to update my itouch because it says it won't save my songs so when it updates my songs could be deleted. Could someone please help or tell me how to contact the Apple people?

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

  • How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? They are there but the individual song titles aren't listed. They are only listed by album. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also, when I click on music, it will not list options.

My itunes account is messed up. How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? The list's are there but the individual song titles aren't. They are only listed by album. I can only see the song titles as they are played at the top of my itunes. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also when in the itunes store, I am not able to see music genre choices, or search for a song or group.
    Thank you

    Hi dones49,
It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.
To find the file, use the information in this article to navigate through the iTunes media folders -
Locate and organize your iTunes files
If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

  • All e-mails in my mailboxes have been deleted.  All the mailboxes are still there but the content in them...GONE.  I tried the time machine

All e-mails in my mailboxes have disappeared.  The mailboxes are still there, but no content.  I think my behaviors were set to delete them after a month (i since tuned it off).  I tried to go to time machine and it has never been "on".  Can someone please help me retrieve ALL my e-mails that were in my mailboxes? Thank yoU!

It depends on your Mail Preferences Accounts Mailbox Behaviour settings.  If your settings for the Comcast mail account are somethikng like this you would find them in your Mail Trash folder and then you would simply move them back to the correct folders.  If you had not activated the Trash option for deleted messages and they are also no longer on the Comcast server, then they are probably erased from your system.  Using the Trash option gives you some breathing room in case you accidentally or mistakenly delete messages.
Look in your Mail folder in a Finder window.  Click on Home, open the Library folder and then open the Mail folder.  Would be nice if there’s something there to recover but I don’t think so.

  • HT1751 This was extremely helpful, however, all the songs I had unchecked in my library are now checked on on my new MacBook.  My playlists are all there, but I do I really need to uncheck the ~3,000 - 4,000 songs I had previously unchecked?

My original library exists on my old computer, so I could still transfer it.   Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated - thank you!

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • HT1386 I copied my my iTunes music from an old computer to a Macbook Pro, but it did not copy the playlists on my nano. How can I transfer the playlists and their content from the nano to the Macbook

I copied my iTunes music from an old computer to a new Macbook pro but it did not copy the playlists that are on my Nano. How can I copy the playlists and their content on the nano to the Macbook? If I automatically sync the nano from the Macbook, will it scrub the content and existing playlists on the nano?

You need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

  • Got the Trojan.Zbot before the antivirus kicked in. All previous emails show that they are there but can't see the contents. Can they be restored?

All old emails are showing that they are there but there are no contents when you try to open them.

right click the folder, select properties and then the repair button. A new index will be generated which may fix the issue or make the empty mails disappear because they are no longer available to be indexed.
BTW look in your anti virus program for quarantined files with names like inbox

I've upgraded my 4th gen ipod to ios6.  I manually manage videos and music as it is easier to access my videos through playlists which I access through the music icon.  Since upgrading to ios6 the playlists are there but when I go into them the individual videos aren't visible.  I know they are there because I can access them through the videos icon.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Does it still turn on to the Apple logo?
If it does, turn it on and hold it up to your ear. If it's making a clicking sound, try hitting it easy a few times on the side. The idea is the hdd is "stuck" and hitting it loosens it. Just don't do it too hard to break it.

  • I just got Pages for my iPad. I am learning Mac. I spent hours on a document last night. This morning the document is there but it is completely blank. Did I somehow delete content? If so! What did I do? Is there any way to retrieve this document????

I'm not sure what happned either but If you are doing this via iTunes, iTunes should have backed up the iPad first. It can take a good bit of time when you update with iTunes on your computer because iTunes downloads and installs the entire iOS all over again. If you are running iOS 5 on the iPad, and you will be now, you can update OTA via WiFi in the future and the process takes far less time since you will only be downloading an incremental update.
If you are syncing on a regular basis with iTunes, you should have a recent backup. In the worst case scenario, you should be able to restore from the backup. And as stated aboce, you can download all apps again and virtually all purchased content from iTunes (if you live in the U.S.) and you can always sync your iTunes library back to the iPad.
Let the update finish and see where you are then. Come back if you need help.

  • HT1386 I cannot sync my iPod with the Playlists that I want. For example, I have all the songs in my classical Playlist checked but it doesn't appear in my iPod after syncing. Also I don't get an opportunity to review sync options.

I cannot sync my iPod with the Playlists that I want. For example, I have all the songs in my Classical Playlist checked, but after syncing it does not appear on my iPod. Also, there are no opportunities to change syncing options. None are listed in the left column of my iTunes screen.

    Hello Jefflo64,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with syncing music to your iPod.  For issues like this, I recommend resyncing the music to your iPod.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPod by unchecking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply,"  then checking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply" again.
You can find the syncing steps in the following article:

  • IPod playlist = no podcast content

    iTunes (11.0.3.42) on Windows XP
    iTouch 64 GB iOS 6.1.3
    These are recent updates.
playlists on the iPod no longer receive podcast content that is set up for them in iTunes.
What this means is, the podcasts are on the iPod and iTunes, the podcasts do get updated on the
iPod, but the iPod playlist does not show the  content that consists of podcasts, whereas the equivalent  iTunes
    playlist does show podcast content.
This makes playlists & my use of the iPod pretty useless.
I've reset & rebuilt the iPod device and this did not improve things -
in fact it made it worse, as it seems that some playlists still had
podcast content, but now none do.
playlists that consist only of podcast content aren't even made available
on the iPod; they have to have some non-podcast content before they're
even made visible.   And even then, no podcast content.
Can anything be done to fix this?

I fixed it.  How is one thing, but why is another.
The rebuilt iPod caused ITunes to complain about 2 items -
one was a podcast (one element of a large group) that for
some reason was no longer visible to ITunes - the file was
there, but iTunes decided it was missing.  I deleted the file
and had it re-fetch.  The other item was a video podcast
that was in a format iTunes said the device couldn't play.
    I deleted it.
After this, the playlists on the iPod sync complete.
    I'd call that a bug.
iTunes didnt complain about these items before the rebuild.

Go to the Music section of your Library (very top-left corner) and see if your songs are there. The "Purchased" playlist may have been deleted or gotten corrupted, but if that happens it's not a big deal because your music should still be in your main Music Library.
If your music is NOT in the Music section of your Library, then go to the iTunes Store homepage and find the Quick Links list on the right side. At the top of that list, click Purchased and you can redownload all of your previous content that you might have lost.

  • Creative X-Fi problems - large number of playlists and protected content

    Hi,
Apologies if I'm posting to the wrong forum - please point me in the right direction!
I'm a developer, consulting for a client trying to launch a business around pre-loading mp3 players, and later updating the content and playlists on the player.
We're trying to load a Creative Zen X-Fi with 7000 pieces of protected subscription content (WMDRM Root and Leaf licenses) and about 400 playlists which point to this content. We're using the WMDM SDK (not the WPD/MTP Sdk) to load the content onto the X-Fi just fine. Building the playlists and loading them to the device usually succeeds, though we occasionally see a WMDM-specific out of memory error code. Later, we update (remove, then add) content to the device and replace all of the playlists after new content is added. This is very buggy, and we can't tell if we're hitting device limitations or what. Music and playlists are loaded into the Music folder and My Playlists folder, respectively - matching WMP behavior.
    Some straightforward questions:
. After writing 430 playlists to the device (some contain > 000 songs) all is well. Playlists play as expected, therefore rights resolve ok. If I delete the playlists, then re-create these playlists again, it appears as though things are successful, though when I unplug the device it's screen goes blank. Hitting the reset button works around the problem, but customers won't like that.
    2. When loading new content I periodically get C00D2779 - 'The file could not be transferred because the device clock is not set'. This is after a successful update of the root license. Is there something I can do to proacti'vely set the secure clock? I would think not - it's not very secure if I can set it - but I'm puzzled by this error.
    3. Is there a documented limit (or any guidelines/help) on the X-Fi's limit on number of playlists, number of pieces of protected content, number of entries in a playlist?
    4. Does Creative provide a developer's forum where my questions might get some tracktion?
Thanks - any help/pointers are appreciated!
