4 bars in menu, but no internet

Howdy. I was trying to connect an iMac 350 with 10.3.9 to a friend's home network. He uses an AirPort Express for wireless. The computer recognized the network and shows 4 bars in the menu bar, but neither Safari or Explorer will open any pages. Any ideas?

you could try trashing the /library/preferences/system configuration folder. if you are unfamiliar with your network settings, then write them down. after trashing the folder, restart the computer and then reconfigure your network settings and try to connect. if that doesn't work, you could try booting to the install disk and running disk repair. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 let me know if that works. I have an iPhone5 with Verizon LTE and I get GREAT service all over San Francisco EXCEPT at my garage! I can't understand it, everywhere in the city: at home, at work (in a basement), all over the place I get full LTE service but for some reason in this ONE spot on a residential street two blocks from my house I'm having some problem. It's a garage I rent and in there, I have bars and it says "LTE" but the connection ALWAYS times out. Not just inside the garage, but just outside as well. Location is 23rd at San jose in San Francisco. I even typed the *3001#12345#* to see the exact numbers and they are -84 at the garage but around -100 at home and at work, but I get great service at these places. For some reason in this one spot, it will say I have service, but it can't connect.

No, I'm really not sure if this is a hardware or carrier issue since the weird thing where it says I have service but the phone won't actually connect to any data.

I show great coverage in that area and no reported issues with data. Has it always been this way in the garage? Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee service indoors, as there are many factors out of our control that can interfere with the signal. For issues while indoors we recommend our network extender http://vz.to/1b3bWa7. This is a great accessory and definitely worth the investment.
One thing you can try is resetting the network settings http://vz.to/1g5YUtN and removing the SIM card for a minute and retesting.

Spry menu works in Firefox and Safari, but not Internet Explorer

I designed my school website in CS4 and CS5. The left spry menu bar appears correctly in Firefox and Safari, but in Internet Explorer the gray background and buttons do not appear. You can only see the text and when you scroll over the text, it disappears even though when you click on it, the link does appear. The website is http://ml.chinookschools.org. I created the site on a mac and I am hosting it on a mac mini server on my network at school. I am a beginner with Dreamweaver and I'm not sure if someone can help me with this, but I would sure be appreciative for any help offered. Here is the source code for the main template page:

You are not using the latest Spry files
The latest version of the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.
Then, if you have a look near the bottom of SpryMenuBarVertical.css you will see that the white background colour has been specified for IE as in
@media screen, projection
    ul.MenuBarVertical li.MenuBarItemIE
    display: inline;
    f\loat: left;
    background: #FFF;
Change the value to #CCC and it will have fixed that part of the problem.
When you upgrade to the later version of Spry, make sure to keep a copy of the CSS file as a reference to modifying the new CSS file.

Did you see a "Bookmark" tab in your Menu Bar? All of your IE Favorites should be there if you pull it down.
FYI, It's called Bookmarks in Firefox.

I have tried shutting down, closing tabs, with no success. What's going on and how can I fix it?

PS: I'm not sure of the actual OS level, but I have not allowed it to upgrade to Maverick yet; concerned about it because of a few things I've read...

A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

As for which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.

It's your choice whether or not to upgrade to Mavericks. If you decide to do this, make sure your Mac meets the requirements noted here.

Did you already try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data.
If this does not work, try to reset the network settings in Settings/General/Reset. After that you'll have to put in the passwords for all known networks again.

Airport network connected on full bars but "no internet connection" and missing lock icon!

this is really frustrating!
I'm using wireless in my house. when i click on my network it connects and it shows perfect connection which is full bars.
on Network Preferences it says that i'm connected to the Airport but when i go to Safari it shows "You are not connected to the Internet" so i click on Network Diagnostic where the 3 network status on top has the green indicator but the ISP, Internet and Server show red and failed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with my internet connection since I'm able to go online using my sister's computer and also on my iPhone.
There's also usually a Lock icon/symbol next to my network's name but when i'm connected to my network the Lock icon seems to be missing but it still shows full bars connection. I really don't get how it's possible to be connected to a network, but no internet connection, while i can access the internet on other devices.
Please help me out here. I've tried ways like going to library>preferences then put the system configuration into Trash, and going to Network Preferences and removing the Airport service and creating a new one.
and one more thing. all mentioned above are when i clicked on Advanced on network preferences then i clicked on TCP/IP and changed the Configure IPv4 from Using DHCP to Manually. When i'm back to using DHCP there's an exclamation point over the airport icon on the top bar and it says no internet connection.

Got my own question answered by a colleague.
He had me create another "Location" in the network pane of System Preferences, then choose it and click Apply. I created a new location which I called 'Airport', chose it and clicked Apply and sure enough, an IP address showed up and all is well.

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

It sounds like a poor data connection. I get the same thing when I try to use AT&T here in my house. It shows 4G and 3 bars but I get little to no data at all. If that is what is happening to you, you can try another carrier if there is one.
Here, I can get LTE at my house and about 10-15Mbps on T-Mobile. Switching carriers can make the difference.
