4 days old MBP 13". First boot up showed charge of 100%, next boot up showed battery fully charged but the percentage read 98% in the subsequent boot ups the battery is fully charged but percentage reads 96%. Whats wrong??
I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. On my first boot up, the battery charged to 100%. I didn't operate this thing on the battery. The next time I booted this thing up, the battery was charged but the meter read 98%. In the subequent boot ups of this machine, and I still having not used the battery, my battery is fully charged but the meter now reads 96%. IS there some problem with the hardware or the software? Help is appreciated!!
Thanks.
hey thank you for the info. Based on what happened, the battery has gone up to 100% just once when I booted this machine for the first time. On subsequent occasions the Battery Charged symbol has appreard at below 100% charging. I have been using my MacBook Pro for the whole day with outlet power and never did the battery go back to 100%. I hope I don't have to calibrate the battery on this model?

2 day old MBP not running off AC adapter.
My two day old MBP is refusing to tun off of the charger. Yesterday I had no problems with it, But now when I plug in the magsafe the light doesn't come on or anything.
Twice I have switched the power outlet that the charger was plugged into and it worked until I looked at the battery charge level in both Leopard and WinXP. At witch point the charger quit working.
Battery currently at 41% and charger still not working.Yes... send it in for repair or take it to an Apple retail store or authorized service provider for diagnosis and/or repair.
You have called Apple support by now haven't you? -
When i plug up my Iphone 5c too charge it makes the noise that it is connected, 30 seconds go by and it makes the sound again. My phone is completely dead so it won't turn on at all. Whats wrong with it?

5 days old MBP C2D - dead HD - what 2 do?
Just purchased a new 2.33 GHz C2D (5 days old) and the hard drive will no longer respond, tried all the tools, can't even re-install the system software.
I'm taking it back to the Aplle store where purchased today. BUT, old dead HD has personal and business confidential info on it. What's Apple policy in physically destroying old hard drives if replaced under warranty?
Thanks for any advice...Providing you go to an Apple authorised service centre that does the repairs themselves you should have no problem getting the dead drive back as long as you pay for the new one.
Otherwise, you might want to consider doing the job yourself even though it technically voids warranty. While not a sanctioned suggestion and I would honestly recommend having a service centre do it, it's not a difficult job if you have the right tools and it'll be far cheaper. -
Can I exchange my five-day-old MBP for the newer model?
Hi,
Friday before last I ordered a new 13" MacBook Pro, and I received it in the mail last Thursday. I've been using it and I love it. However, today Apple released the new MBP's with slightly better processors and graphics. The one I already have is still in near-perfect condition, as I've only had it for five days. Would I be able to send it back to Apple and exchange it for the newer model? If so, would it cost me anything... and would the increased performance be noticeable enough to be worth the cost and trouble?
Aside from web browsing and other general stuff, I use my MacBook for design programs like Adobe Creative Suite. If I do end up being able to do some kind of exchange, I'll almost certainly go for the 2.4 GHz 13".
Thanks for your time!Update: Sorry, I didn't see the other similar threads. I should have looked first.
Apparently it's possible, since I'm under the two-week limit, but how do I go about the business? Whom should I email/call? -
Hi to everyone, here's my trouble!
As it shows full charge, and health to 96% in 5 days after I purchased this one to replace my 2008 mbp15. Also the battery drains a lot faster than I expected, and I'm only doing web surfing at this time, don't have time to install protools yet.
I know, you might say, "dude, 96% is a good battery " My answer to that would be "4 cycles!!!!" I also read that other mbp 2011 are having drain problems, don't know if they use istat, but I used it on my previous mbp and always showed correct info.
Any comment on similar situation, please let me know. I will keep searching for info
Thanks for the space! Cheers!Would you stop stressing?
Go have a read through the forums at all the posts about batteries, and you will find the majority are the same question you are after 4 cycles.
It's going to last you 2+ years if you treat it right / 300+ cycles.
I've seen people post saying their battery is stuffed after 800+ cycles!
And they are $100 to replace... Seriously, is it really worth stressing over 4%?
Just enjoy your new mac & have fun! -
I just bought a 15" MBP, loaded Office for Mac, Roxio Toast, and 3 more programs for audio recording. Aside from that, I sent some e-mails of some recordings that I made. I leave the computer alone for a few days, plugged in to the charger. Now the computer is dead. I was told to contact Apple directly after going to the Apple store, because the computer was a "Custom Order" from the website. Has anybody else had major problems with a MBP within the First week of delivery?
I went to the nearest Apple store and they wouldn't even touch the unit because it was a "Custom Online Order". After making a huge fuss about this being the 6th mac that I've purchased in less than a year, the store manager came over and gave me a work around solution. But, to get this work around I had to purchase an external hard drive and re-instal OSX on that external unit. Now I have to wait till I get back home, and see what Apple is going to do.

1 day old MBP, MASSIVE cpu usage when any USB device is plugged in?!?
I just purchased a brand new MBP 2.2
If I plug anything into any of the usb ports my CPU starts clocking and within 10 minutes my system is running it's fans at full speed trying to keep it cool. This can be with no activity AT ALL. I can simply plug a USB thumb drive in and watch as the system gets hotter and hotter!
Has anyone heard of this and is there a solution. I had planned on booting and external USB drive to run a separate OSX install but this makes that impossible. Any help is greatly appreciated.
KalelSorry, it was just taking FOREVER to index my USB drives. One drive is only 120GB and after almost 6 hours it still has 4 hours remaining! For reference it indexed my Firewire drive in about 15 minutes.

new mac convert (well except for my mouse)
a bit surprised to have an issue at all, but especially so soon in my new mac life
I purposefully initiated an adobe acrobat update from it's updater .. about 2 minutes in, the machine froze and displayed the panic box (you must restart your .. )
I rebooted in safe mode.. seemed fine..
rebooted normally .. okeedokee
checked for apple updates .. was already up to date
ran acrobat updater again .. it ran / completed successfully
here is the panic log .
linux experience so i am comfortable with terminal if i need to look for anything else .. but don't know what I am looking for here.

phone support indicated panic log troubleshooting was not part of the deal unless it was recurring etc.
any insight appreciated.
trying to learn a bit from other logs and responses in these forums, i see the last loaded kext and am wondering if my trend micro was running a scan and i wasn't aware of it, and there was a conflict with the adobe updater running.
VERY thankful to have this community which appears to be so willing to help educate and resolve issues for the less than genius of us
Thanks
wHi..
not sure if it is appropriate to post to this same thread or start a new one so I will start here..
~20 days later and i have had another kernel panic
can someone confirm that the main cause is likely trend smart surfing for mac, or if there are other indicators i should also look at ?
I don't know if it could be related, but personally think this machine is getting way too hot to be normal, but a trip to the genius bar, and i was dismissed as a moron(my interpretation of the guy's eyes rolling at me) for thinking i should be able to type on this thing without my left hand sweating (I even have it on an elevated lap desk ON my desk desk with the back end hanging over so it has extra ventalation super low cpu usage and i have upgraded to 16gigs of ram)
i digress..
right before the panic attack, my surfing speed was noticibly slower (reg 15 meg testing at 9-10)
crash.. reboot .. and i was instantly notified of an update available for OFFICE for MAC.. which ironically includes a security update for a vulnerability in Word which would allow an attacker to rewrite the memory on the machine.
having had my pc before this as well as my router, severly hacked, i am obviously a bit weary.. but i also understand that antivirus/malware software is a bit of a new thing for a mac, and could be the simple explanation for my issues..
another note.. right after the most recent lion update 2 days ago..
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
some of my security preferences were reset ..
specifically ..
log out after X minutes .. that was previously set to 30 minutes .. it was now unchecked..
the 'require admin password to access locked preferences'
.. this was unchecked as was
'disable remote control infrared receiver'
EVERYONE tells me not to worry about mac viruses/malware/exploits .. but it is really difficult to do when you have been hacked as bad as i was.. pc or not... so again, i appreciate a bit of allowance for my paranoia

2 day old MBP and already lost a USB port!!
I just bought a macbook pro yesterday along with a mighty mouse. Everything worked flawlessly until this morning. While I was working in Photoshop the mouse quit working. Since then it has given me the error message "USB device over current notice" even when there is nothing plugged in. As soon as it boots up I get the notice. It is only the right USB port that is giving me the problem. I upgraded to 10.4.6 but that didn't solve the problem. I searched around and haven't been able to find a fix. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it? Thanks.
MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Mac OS X (10.4.6)Thanks for the reply. I was on the phone all morning with Apple and tried many different things to get the port to work and apparently its a problem with the port itself. I'll just have to exchange it. I'll go ahead and do a fresh install of the OS and let everyone know if it gets rid of the problem.
I bought it at CompUSA. When I took it out of the box I noticed that the screen had some smudge marks on it as if someone tried to wipe it off. It certainly didn't look "new". I'm guessing someone else returned the computer and they turned around and sold it to me. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the new one. -
1 day old mbp, hard drive crackle normal?
I've been waiting to pick up a MBP for several weeks now and last night I finally bit the bullet.
I've read about the whine issues, heat issues and crackling speakers that some have experienced.
Last night when running updates, I noticed that the hard drive crackles/buzzes when reading/writing. I know hearing the hard drive is normal but the sound isn't of the drive spinning but more of a scratchy irregular buzz.
Noise only happens when access the HD, like starting apps...it's just that I've never heard anything similar, I'm used to hearing hard drives whine while they spin.
Only way I can explain the sound would be it's similar to the sound effects in movies when a spider would crawl around the floor, but only in 2 seconds spurts.
Maybe I'm just paranoid because I love the machine but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts...btw if i remember correctly it's a week 17 machine.
-gabeSound is normal. Certain drives are louder then others, the ones that Apple uses are known to be particularly loud. It shouldn't be regular at all but instead a sporadic sounds whenever the drive is written to or read from. If the sound does become noticeably louder or changes its pattern, it could be an indication of a drive failure. If you are worried about the status of your drive, you can check the SMART status, which will inform you on the drives overall health.

1 day old mbp 90 deg. 6500rpm
- 4 gb RAM, i7 2.7ghz, Latest OS
Simply running Minecraft (absolute minimum graphics) with no other applications at all, the fan hits 6000 - 6500 rpm,
and the CPU is at 90 degrees flat.
Does anyone know what i have done wrong? or whether there is something wrong with my machine?Sorry, it was just taking FOREVER to index my USB drives. One drive is only 120GB and after almost 6 hours it still has 4 hours remaining! For reference it indexed my Firewire drive in about 15 minutes.

can anyone help lol?
Does it just say "Accessing iTunes Store" and stay like that?
If so, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.) -
I receive fresh emails from the enterprise server (outlook) but, if I receive a response I can not open that email or the original one. Also my outlook calendar does not update to today's date and it does not sync to my enterprise server calendar. All of this used to work fine before.
Have you consulted your IT department about these issues?
