4 Gig Nano not updating/Cant write to this disk error. Please Help!

Hi. I have a Ipod Nano 4g. (actually my husbands.. but anyway) he will load it to his computer and it starts updating, recognizes it.. everything looks perfect then after about 4 songs sometimes 3 or 8.. but generally within minutes it stops updating and says "cant read or write to this disk" something like that. The restoring didnt help.
Its a desktop computer with XP on it.. any suggestions?

just checking. have you worked through the possibilities from this document?

I was looking through our resources and found an article with information regarding that error message. The article is called iTunes for Windows XP: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1866.
Here is the text but the article contains images for a visual reference:
Verify the location of your Windows XP My Music folder. The default location for this folder is
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music
If you do not have this folder at the default location and have not moved it to another location, consider creating one inside your My Documents folder.
Download and install Tweak UI from the Microsoft PowerToys website athttp://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Note: This utility is for Windows XP only. Please review the system requirements before installing.
Once you have installed Tweak UI, open it from the Start menu.
In the column on the left, click on the plus symbol next to My Computer and select Special Folders.
In the right pane under Special Folders, choose My Music from the Folder pop-up menu.
Click the Change Location button. You may see a warning message appear with precautions for changing this setting; after reviewing the message, click Yes.
In the resulting window, browse for the My Music folder as described in step 1, and click OK.
Reinstall or open iTunes.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, the settings for the current user may be corrupted, which could cause iTunes not to install or open. You may have to install and open iTunes in a different Windows user account.

Not Authorized to write to this folder - error msg.

I have been trying to install updates for my Canon Dig Camera software [Applications/Canon Utilities - Canon Utilities is the folder I created during the initial install], it appears to go fine for the first few updates (image browser, Camera Window) and then suddenly stops and throws the error 'Not Authorized to Write to this Folder' and quits. Any suggestions?
Folder Permissions:
Ownership: you can R&W
Owner: system (locked)
Access: R & W
Group: Admin
Access: R&W
Others: Read Only

OSX Tiger 10.4.3 Will Not Update!!!!!! Please Help....:)

I have a Power Book G4 15" Ti 867Mhz1Gb RAM which I recently upgraded the HD to a Samsung 160GB, at the same time I also upgraded OSX from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3.
Since the upgrade my operating system seems to be stuck on 10.4.3.(ie will not update)
I have tried everything, from repairing disk to repairing disk permissions (using OSX Tiger install disc), reboot upgrade, reboot archive & install, but i am still not able to update the OSX...:(
I have manually downloaded Delta (10.4.4) & Combo (10.4.6, 10.4.8 & 10.4.9 PPC updates but they all say my volume does not meet the rquirements.
I have checked about this mac and i am definitely running 10.4.3....
Why am I unable to upgrade????
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi guys I appreciate your assistance...but i am still stuck on 10.4.3!!
I just ran archive & install again (OSX 10.4 Tiger) and still I am unable to update from 10.4.3..Is it possible my install disk is faulty??? I have tried absolutely everything including applejack, disk permissions, disk repair ect...nothing seems to make any difference.
Same old statement when manually updating from apple website (using both delta & combo) "this volume does not meet the requirements"
My automatic software update works fine, it just installed the latest iTunes 7.2 no problem, it just wont detect the OSX upgrade...:(

I have dellbiz.myway.com as my homepage. For several weeks it will not update the information on the homescreen. The same article appears at the top (there are usually several different ones that change every few seconds but this is not happening, it's stuck on an old article). You can also enter a zip code for your local weather and I can do that and it changes to my local weather at that time but when I close the browser and re-open it, it does not keep that setting even though I check the box to "save the location." Can't figure out how to get this straightened out. I have cleared the cookies, history, cache, etc., but to no avail.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I uninstalled itunes because i could not update it. now when i try to install it it comes up with this

Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Apple\Apple Application Support then try again.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Noob question, how to avoid this runtime error,please help..

Im new to java. Im using a JOptionPane in getting the user an input/a number, which is in String,. and to use it, im converting it by Integer.parseInt. When I run it everything seems ok, but whenever i inputted other data types other than integer(e.g char), i get a runtime error message "exception in main thread java.lang.NumberFormatException blah blah.....,. Is theres a way or a method or something that i can filter the users input when they type a character or when they inputted nothing that will not resulted to a runtime error, instead, an error message box will said that it is an invalid input. thanks in advance

Ah, well, after an evening of rest and reflection, I have to conclude that we are all partially correct. I never meant to imply that NumberFormatException should not be caught. I have had to repair too many classes in which just-in-case or programming-by-exception was a rule, rather than a valuable technique for handling exceptional or error situations.
As far as this example, I was not attempting to write a parser, or even start one. We are talking about a very simple situation ... determine if a String represents an integer. My example was overly simple, too. As pointed out, too simple. *\d+* would have eliminated empty strings, and with a few relatively minor changes, could handle all legal integers easily, including '-' and ',' characters, while excluding floating point and other invalid inputs. I did mention that regexes were an advanced technique. A Scanner could be used to test for the existence of an integer in a string. None of these rise to the level of parsing, IMO, but, as I have frequently said in these fora, the arguments of the mages are infinite. Of course, that implies that I consider myself a mage, which is not actually the truth.
In any case, as pointed out, this is an example where catching a runtime exception is probably a good idea, as long as we don't give the OP the idea that this is the only technique, or that code can be written to ignore the causes of exceptional situations, because we can always handle them in the catch block. I have seen way too much of this to be comfortable with even the suggestion of this.

this may happen on external drives if:
The external drive was hotpluged (removed) without going the correct "eject" way
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for external drive
Close iTunes
Unmount (eject) external drive the right way.
Mount drive again
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up" This will force the filesystem to rescan the file structure of the drive and rebuilding the file system table and journaling file.
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive) restart iTunes
If your iTunes library is on your internal drive, this may happen
The system was not shoot down correct, e.g. "pulled the plug"
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for internal hard drive
Close iTunes
Reboot system
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up"
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive)
Reboot system, restart iTunes
If none of the above fixes your problem, post here.

Sounds like you can't update your device. You don't mention an error that it gives you. Take a look at both of these articles to troubleshoot.
iPod displays "Use iTunes to restore" message

If you can't update or restore your iOS device

If you started your device in recovery mode by mistake, restart it to exit recovery mode. Or you can just wait—after 15 minutes the device will exit recovery mode by itself.

Not athorized to write to this folder

I just transferred to Mac a few weeks ago from many years with a PC. So I am fairly new at this Mac stuff. I've been trying to install new camera software on my local hard drive. I know that I need to enter the administrators username and password, but it won't ask me. It just says: "not authorized to write to this folder". I've talked to the to camera tech support, and they say that it is a mac os x problem. I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i've never seen that message - bad media maybe?
Third, I have two CD's labelled Mac OS X Install Disk
1 and Disk 2 and I can't find the Disk Utilities
program to Repair Permissions on either CD.
you don't need to boot off of an optical disk to repair
permissions. just run the app as already installed on your machine.
double-click on Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
select the boot volume on the left side, then click
Repair Permissions...
Forth, with the thought of trying another version of
the same software; I can't find any of this software
on Canon's website.
that's a bit scary! is this app, in fact, still supported?
you know, you can probably get the raw photo data off the camera
just by connecting it and dragging and dropping from the Finder.
and there are other decent and free photo-editing apps out there
(like GraphicConverter)... i.e. you might not really need the canon software... just a thought...
