4 MX 440 SE (MX440SE-T MS-8878) - MSI Info and Clock Tab Crashes

Hi,
I am experiencing the following problem with GeForce 4 MX 440 SE (MX440SE-T MS-8878):
When I click on the "MSI Information" OR "MSI Clock" tabs on
Windows Xp
Windows XP SP1
The system crashes. The following is displayed on 'Event Viewer'.

It is fine on Windows Me (same pc).
My system is brand new:
Asus P4S8X Motherboard
P4 2.53 GHZ CPU
512 MB PC2700 Sumsung RAM
80 GB Western Digital HD
and of course, GeForce 4 MX 440 SE (MX440SE-T MS-8878 - http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=374&MODEL=MS-8878).
I have upgraded drivers, etc (current 41.07).
Please let me know if you have a solution.
Thanks

Yeah man. I am really happy.( well, you might wanna punch me. i feel like an idiot).
this is the first time I saw someone with the same bloody problem I faced for months. Well ,case_sensitiveuk , do not give up, because I am still working hard to solve this problem.
"...well, I also have a P4S8X motherboard. definately something is wrong with this mobo. I was very confident that the mobo has some serious problems. now, you proved me correct..."
lolz...Never buy motherboard from crazy companies like Asus who release their product with UNSTABLE BIOS.
I am still using their BETA Bios because their so-called released version randomly boots my PC. What pisses me off is this...THEY ARE MAKING ME TEST THEIR BETA VERSION while I paid quite lot of money for it (£115)..i could have got a gigabyte motherboard for £55 and be happy with it!
One more thing with that motherboard, on the AGP options on BIOS, i only have upto 4x, it does not show 8x...any ideas?
"...a message will appear saying that the drive did not qualify the windows quality test ( something like that.).."
Okay..that is kind of normal...it says similar thing with my ancient modem, and guess what IT WORKS!
"...Win me has some wierd stability problems. win 98 is kinda old ..."
TRUE! :-)
I did not give up man..I thought they MSI will fi this issue with their latest update..well..they did not. WHY? I dont know...but one thing I can say..if a company like MSI who is unable to fix this problem, then learn from them an ddont buy their product...
lolz
As for deleting "..msicpl.dll..." as advised by Deathstalker and others, it did not help me. Why? Because It does NOT EXIST on my system.
Having said all the above, I have to thank you guys for your help and letting me know other application exists like PowerStripper... :-)

  • Msi 6528 and Geforce 4 mx 440 or hdd 80 Gb??

    Hi people,
I've a terrible trouble: I've bought a Msi 6528 le with 512 sdram and an IBm 80 Gb hdd and a new asus geforce 4 mx 440. The system doesn't work and crashes or befor the os strt up or also in the bios mode. Sometimes appears on the black screen "Scan out of Range". What does it mean? Do you know about some incompatibility of any of each hardware pieces?
    Please help me!

Sounds like a BIOS problem. Try selecting 'default settings' in BIOS to start with and take it on from there. What is your OS?  Check all installations especially with your HDD/jumper setting- pins 1 & 2 and 7 & 8 positions for 16 Logical Head settings ( Device 0- Master ).
Your AGP card has to be 'enabled' in BIOS as well.
Check the other installed hardware like CD-ROM and CD-RW ect. Your PCI Cards as well.
If this does not work, then try the 'minimum' installation with just the HDD and Graphics card and see if you can boot to windows. I take t that your HDD is brand new with no data on it?
    Good luck!

  • Ballistix pc4000 ddr 500 running @ ddr 214 - help please?

    k8n neo2 plat bios ver 1.3
    3200 winchester
2x512 ballistix pc 4000 ddr sdram in slots 1+3
    Hi
Im hoping someone will be able to help. I cannot get this memory to run at anything more than a ddr clock of 107 (214 ddr) when i set the timing to 'auto' on the memlock. Cpu-z says this speed but also has '256 clocks' in the 'dram idle timer' in its memory tab (meant to be 16 clocks im sure).
Ive messed around with it for ages trying to get it to work and have just received various error sounds and messages causing me to have to reset the cmos numerous times just to be able to get back in.
I can get it to work if i lock the memlock at 200 but this is causing it to run at only pc3200 (ddr 400) speed, not to mention giving me the inability to overclock it at all. Timings are set at what the memory is meant to run ddr 500 at - 2.5-4-8-4 (but im only sticking 2.7 volts through it, from stated 2.8, as it's running slower).
The crucial tool said it would work fine, the spec of the memory and board indicate that they're compatible with each other, and several people in the thread on this site are using it (1 person @ 235 fsb) - so i seem to think that i may be missing something.
Also, each stick of the memory works fine on it's own, got it to ddr 440 without flinching (220 fsb... ), and stable, no crashes or nothing - hours of use and numerous benchmarking. But 2 sticks just sends the ddr clock back to 107 unless i lock the memlock.
I've run memtest whilst locking the memlock at 200 and it showed no errors. Im going to do the same thing overnight tonight with the ddr clock knackered at 107 - see what shows up.
My other memory works fine - 2x512 2700 kingstonX.
    Can anyone help? Much thanks

    Try a BIOS upgrade.
Maybe it's no coincidence that my OCZ 3500EB was also limited to 214 mhz on my K8N Neo (not Neo2) with BIOS 1.4. Both sets of RAM use ICs made by Micron so perhaps it's no coincidence (not to say they're exactly the same.  They're not.)
Upping to beta BIOS 1.52, 1.55, or 1.56 fixes things for me.
Maybe for the Neo2 you should try beta 1.36 or 1.37 then? Worth a try.  I believe that K8N Neo BIOS 1.4 and K8N Neo2 BIOS 1.3 are total clunkers.
    Good luck...

  • Very Low 3dMark2001 score w/ MSI GeForce4 MX440SE-T

    HELP!!
    My System:
    AMD Athlon xp 2000+
    ASUS A7V333
    256 DDR 333MHz Kingston RAM(Latency 2.5)
    (MS-8878)MSI Geforce4 MX440SE-T
And With that system I am getting very low scores about 4070 at 3Dmark2001 SE! It seems to me impossible, it is near to my old Geforce 2MX.
I think there is some problem with my configuration, but yet I couldn't find anything.I tried alot of things, checked all drivers they are all up to date.(Via 4in1 drives:latest hyperion thing,NVidia WHQL certf. 40.72. etc..)I enabled fast write, enhanced agp performance control from bios and eveything I know from display settings i.e. Antialiasing disabled, d3d tweaked and still the problem persists.
I need someone who can help me under these hard and strange conditions.. ?(

I have to agree with sqersch, I've run at 60 mhz and got way more than 60 fps, refresh rate doesn't have alot to do with card performance.  Sure you get a fps boost when you increase the refresh rate but nothing significant and it certainly doesn't "cap" the frame rate, it can just improve it slightly.  Besides about the only thing you would want to increase the refresh rate for is so that it would be easier on the eyes, (less flicker).  As for the guy complaining about his benchmark, what exactly do you expect to get with an mx version of a geforce 4?  I'm not saying that score isn't wrong, just wondering what score you hope to achieve with an mx card.

  • Seagate Black Armor NAS 440 / 420 with Apple OSX 10.5.8-10.6 is a BAD IDEA!

Heads up to Apple users. We purchased a Seagate Black Armor NAS 440 for use with a multi user environment and found it was incompatible with any 10.5.8 or 10.6 OSX users. This fact was confirmed by Seagate Tier 2 or "Very Hard Problem" (they call it this not me) support office.
We confirmed the tech specs as published by Seagate and unfortunately the development of this product was timed prior to 10.5.8 and 10.6 and has yet to be patched.
After migrating 6 TB of data we discovered the issue, and had to rollback. If Seagate had published the correct tech specs we could have avoided wasting 2 days of work and inconveniencing our users.
Bottom line save yourself the trouble, and do not buy a Seagate NAS if your running OSX in your environment.

Have to agree. And it would take a simple fix (according to the linux/unix geeks on the forums) which seagate doesn't see viable enough to implement. Most of what I read says go WD.

  • Why is Shockwave 11.2.202.440 disabled?

I have Linux Mint 17.1, and Firefox 35.0.1, and I tried to update Shockwave, Adobe says no more updates, "https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-9163" says problem is with 11.2.202.425. I have version 11.2.202.440. Why is my latest version blocked and removed from my pc?

Because it is vulnerable and 11.2.202.44'''2''' is the latest (critical) security update from Adobe. Adobe has been trying to fix some critical exploits that have been proven in wild for a couple months now.
The previous 11.2.202.440 was available as early as Jan 25.

  • Nvdia Geforce 4 mx 440 Video Card

I have a MSI Geforce 4 MX 440 AGP 4x Video card and when i install the drivers and reboot i have 2 features (MSI Clock and MSI Information) that show up right by my settings icon in display properties.  When i click on those i get a dont send or send error.  What is doin this

    cjms,
Since my crystal ball is still in the shop and you really did not give me any information on your system, I am going to resort to guessing.
I am going to guess, you at one time loaded the MSI drivers and then you switched to the nVidia Drivers.
Even if you did not load the nVidia Drivers - go download them from the nVidia Website and install them.  Then go in to your windows directory and delete the file msicpl.dll
    For the extra features:
Use notepad to make a new file and put in it what I quoted below and then save it with the .reg extension.
    Quote
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARENVIDIA CorporationGlobalNVTweak]
    "Coolbits"=dword:ffffffff
    "NvCplEnableAGPSettingsPage"=dword:00000001
    "NvCplEnableAdditionalInfoPage"=dword:00000001
    "NvCplEnableClearViewPage"=dword:00000001
Double Click on it and it will make an entry into your registry.
That will open all the extra options in the Detonator4 Drivers including the Core and RAM Speeds for your GF4.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • MX440SE-T enabling 2x AGP traffic?

I have just installed the MSI MX440SE-T graphics card on my MSI MS6195 K7Pro motherboard, cpu AMD Athlon 700, o/s Win 98SE.
Everything is working.  But I noticed in Display Properties > MSI Info that "AGP Information" has not got any AGP data transfer enabled.  The motherboard supports 2x and the graphics card supports up to 4x.   How do I enable 2x traffic to make full use of the card? Or am I missing something?  I downloaded the Powerstrip utility recommended by nVidia which will enable the data traffic to 2x but it doesn't stay after shut-down?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for advice.   Therein lies another problem!  My bios seems to have decided it wants a password.  I never set one up.  Not that I can remember anyway.  I recently ran a Belarc utility that checked my system so maybe that tweaked something.  You don't have any advice on how to get around this?
    Anyway, thanks for your help.

  • 440s errors and now BSOD

440s came preinstalled with win7Pro, used RDVD for win8Pro then updated to 8.1 Pro.
After initial install, was copying some files off old laptop and was planning to put on new one left 440s  on to find later it had restarted and had an issue with the HDD ( SSD) - error 2100: Detection error on HDD0 ( Main HDD), press esc to continue. Then day later it suggested it had a non genuine battery which would not charge properly. Then later same day started to blue screen whenever it was either hibernated( via shutdown menu) or put to sleep ( close lid) - suggests it due to SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (vwififlt.sys). Lodged ticket Monday for initial errors expecting lenovo to contact me to do diagnostics to confirm HW is OK, now Friday arvo they still have NOT contacted me despite numerous updates to the ticket giving as much info as I can. Anyone had similar issues?
Also ran all windows updates, Lenovo updates etc, 440 is fully patched in all respects.

    Hi Collew,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m really sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad T440s is having multiple issues.
If the machine started showing 2100: detection error on HDD0, try reseating the HDD and check. Also, try using the HDD with another system if possible and see if the error appears. This error comes up usually when Hard disk drive is failing. If there is any critical data in your HDD, I would suggest you to take a backup at the earliest.
Regarding the battery not genuine message, try updating the BIOS and power management driver. Install Lenovo settings dependency package and check if the issue gets fixed.
BSOD seems to occur due to vwififlt.sys (Windows Virtual Wi-Fi Filter Driver). I would suggest you to reinstall the Wi- Fi drivers completely from device manager, reinstall and check if BSOD occurs.
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • MSI GeForce4 MMX 440

I recently bought this card.  I also had to format my hard drive, reinstalled everything.  Now, I am encountering these:
    1.  No check mark beside 4x AGP option in the MSI info screen.  And currently only lists 4x and 2X only when it previously listed 8X also
    2.  Most of my simulations report a choice between Primary display driver or GeForce 4 mmx 440.
    3.  Random CTD's while running the sims.
    4.  No 3D stereo when enabled in the control applet for some games.
    My specs:(Dell Dimension 4300)
    P4 1.6Ghz
    WinMe
    512 MB PC 133mhz RAM
    20 G HD
    SB Live
    Direct X 8.1b
    Saitek x36 USB HOTAS
    CH Pro USB Pedals
    Edimensional 3D stereo glasses
Drivers are currently detonator 30.87 (stereo also same version)
I would love to here any ideas on fixing this!

Thanks for pointing out the problem and you were right. it was the mobo agp drivers or more specifically the onboard chipset drivers.  so if anyone is planning to reformat their hard drive do not forget to reinstall the chipset drivers.

  • G4MMX 440 Problems

Having problems with certain game graphics being messed up (looks like a broken mirror). Lately it is only with "No one lives forever" (which came with the VC Package). Also it will start up fine then once you get to the game screens certain parts of the graphics will flash in and out, making it impossible to play.
When I first installed the Video Card I was running Windows 98, and the game ran fine. I upgraded to Win 2k and it ran fine.  The only problem I had at this time was that I couldnt make any changes to the MSI Inofrmation or MSI Clock in the Properties Menu. When I upgraded the driver to Detonator 3, I was able to view and change settings in the Properties menus and everything was running smoothly.
I later tried upgrading to Win XP. Everything ran fine except all games would quit and boot me back to the desktop after about 30 seconds of playing.  I figured it was Win XP that was causing the problem so I switched back to Win 2k(and also reformatted to clear the clutter).  A few days later I found out that the GPU Fan had died and was causing all games to kick me back to Desk top after a few minutes of playing.  Called the Techs the sent me a replacement fan, installed and that problem is fixed.
After the reformatt and installation of Win 2k no matter what drivers I use, when I try to view the MSI Info, or MSI Clock settings in the properties menu I get the following message. " Error occured while windows was working with the Control Panel File C:\winnit\System32.desk.cpl.
I have used a registry cleaner, there are no double registries. I have tried all nVidia drivers available and I get the same problem.
I am using 40.72 at the moment and I can only the vew the information in those menu's by going throught the advanced settings to look through the N-View, close it then I can open those two menu's.  I am able to view MSI Information but cant change anything, and MSI Clock shows my Mem Clock at a max of 7 mhz, and the Core clock can only be changed from 7 to 10 mhz. If I hit the Default tabs I get the C:\winnit\system32.desk.cpl error, or if I close them and try to reopen I get the same errors.
I also ran the Benchmark 2001SE program to se where I rate, My score was 5446.
Any suggestions will help, I've tried everything I can think of but going back to Win 98.  My Card ran for at least 3 days with out the fan cooling it due to the fan crashing un-noticed(now I have it plugged into the MB wich will trigger an alarm when it dies or goes under like 3k rpms), so I'm not sure if something on my card fried or not.
    Again any help will help.
    My system:
    Intel P4 1.8a
    512 DDR333 ram
    GeForce4 MMX 440-T
    Asus PS333 MB
    Onboard Audio
    Creative 52k CD
    Win 2k Pro

If you had that problem with the heatsink, maybe it is a good idea to return your card to the vendor and ask them to replace it as well.
About the MSI clock, I guess that error could happen if you are using a non-MSI driver. As I saw in another thread it is not that easy to get rid of that clock. Here is what Stone says about it:
"do a search for those and then delet it!!!!!!
    msicpl.dll
    stone"
    So, delete msicpl.dll.

  • Compare-- Nvidia-cards

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how can i configure ok my msi, video card
    i have a fx5200 t-128.
I`m asking this because i´ve compared a lot my card with other video cards of some friends and the results are bad, their cards (64 megs mx 440 evga ddr 8x, 64megs mx440se xfx SDR) worked better in all of the games where i´ve proved. games like grand thieft auto-vice city, quake3, wolfenstein, max pain 2, need for speed 6 etc (I though that in this game having 128megs of ddr, would improve the image and running, but it only managed to run the game the same as the other two cards).
I´ve done all the recomendations the forum has to offer, but it just doesn't work it only works ok (ok, is to run Gta vice-city, on 1027-768-32bits, without slowing never, or sometimes)  when i put the clocks on captain (MSI drivers), and i dont like that; the card is suposed to give better resolution on games, than this other 2 cards, on its normal clock numbers is,nt it?.
When i bought my computer I had the chance to decide between the fx5200 t-128, an mx440-128 megs 8x ddr(evga), and a mx440 64megs 8x ddr (evga), now i think i chosed bad i though that MSI products with other MSI products worked better, but i think i was wrong.

The 5200 is the problem not MSI.
The 5200 is the MX class card of today, so yes, you made a poor choice in the class of card. Thinking that MSI products work better with each other seems logical in theory but it is naive in nature. The same applies with any manufacturer.
You basically stepped sideways instead of forward in other words.
It may even be configuration issues with the system you are using it on. I noticed that on the KT6, you are using DDR 400 and an AMD XP2000+, I do know that on the nvidia chipset, you have to run the memory and the CPU with the same ratio 1:1 or you wil have a performance loss, even if your RAM is rated higher, but I think it is ok on the VIA board.
BIOS settings, OS configuration, driver optimization/version & monitor used can all impact gaming on a wide variety of hardware, so it's really hard to pin it down to any one thing. I can tell you it's not MSI's fault as far as hardware goes. I would consider downloading the latest drivers from nVidia here --> nVidia Drivers
    Bottom line the 5200 class is a weak card...the GF4 TI4200 performs better...way better.

  • MSI 3D TURBO EXPERIENCE Doesn't Work

I was told that I could read my GPU tempertures with this program that I got with my MSI Geforce 4 4400. I installed the program but the window closes after about two seconds and it says that the temperature is 0. Anybody with this program know how to fix this? Thanks.

It appears my suspicions were partly correct.
Evidently there are versions of the GF4 that do not support Hardware Monitoring. If you find any discrepancies, please notify me by PM.
