4 pin to 9 pin adapter problem

FCP can't see my capture cam when hooked to my new MacPro (log&capture) or any of my firewire drives. The first thing I did was look in the system profiler and it wasn't there. I hooked up to my old imac and system profiler said it was there and the drives work fine. That rules out a firewire problem.
I bought an adapter to go from 400 to 800 firewire so I'm assuming this is the problem. I returned it and got a new one but still no joy.
Anyone else had this problem because if not the only other answer could be all of my firewire ports don't work on a brand new Macpro.

On the contrary, that points precisely to a Firewire bus problem.

When you eliminate the obvious and the wishful, the only thing left, regardless of your ability to accept it as likely, is probably the solution: your empirical evidence points directly at a bad Firewire bus on your new computer. All we have is your description of what is obviously a bad FW bus.

has anyone found an 8 pin to 30 pin adapter that provides for audio via the 8 pin, charge, and all functions?

the motheboard I have is MSI RD480 Neo-2, the case is the XION 2, it is a 450 watt supply.  The 12v line is 18 amps, but I think it is setup for one rail. I am new to all of this. • Does apples 30 pin male to female adapter work with iphone 4s to skydock

does apples 30 pin male to female adapter, work with iphone 4s to skydock (xm radio car cradle/charger)?

    Howdy nanster23,
If you have as yet been unable to use this 30pin to lightning bolt adapter, I would like to recommend the troubleshooting in the following article to help you get that squared away:
If you need help with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch accessories
These sections in particular since you have already done a couple of them:
Disconnect and inspect the accessory, then restart your device
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible.
Inspect the connection between the accessory and device and make sure that no debris or other damage is present.
Restart your iOS device by turning it off, then back on. When the Home screen appears, reconnect the accessory.
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iOS device. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • D10 and nvidia Titan, Best solution to power required 6 pin and 8 pin input

    Hi,
For gpgpu programming and computing I would like to install a nvidia gtx Titan.
This card has a TDP of 300 Watts, and the manufactor requires a 650 W PSU.
So we thought that the D10 should be ok.
The problem is that it needs a 8 pin and a 6 pin power input. The D10 only has 2 6 pin connectors.
I saw some adapter cables on the market:
    the safest seemed using a:
    2 x 6 pin to 8 pin.
    2 x molex to 6 pin.
The problem is that there is only 1 molex.
if i am correct the 6 pins are rated 75W and the 8 pins 150W
There are some people using 1x 6 pin to 8 pin adapters, some say its ok, some say its dangerous.
    What would you recomend?
    (1 x 6 pin to 8 pin) and (6 pin)
    or
(2 x 6 pin to 8 pin) and ([sata to molex] + molex in a 2x molex to 6 pin)
    or
    any other recomendations?

    Hi,
Yesterday i finaly got the 6to8 pin addapter. So i tried using that on the P5 (6 pin) and to use the the P4 as the standard 6 pin, as suggested. In the beginning if i change something about my D10 i always get some boot errors the first few startups that dissapear as soon as i enter and save and exit the bios. But then it worked
My first surprize was that the Zotac Titan amp edition, was really quiete under idle.
I could not really test a lot because normaly i have to work using 2 monitors, and i didnt have the proper addapter to mount 2vga monitors, (i needed a DVI-D to vga adapter or a hdmi to vga addapter, this evening when i finish my regular work i will test it again).
In the 1.5 hours that i used the d10 with the Titan it i got one strange screen blackout and i had to reboot.
When i tried to install the drivers from the DVD, and the DVD started spinning, full power, the display went black, and didnt got back again without a restart. I think that could be a power issue.
I will test it some more, running a gpu benchmark test, and trieng to copy something from a dvd in the same time.
In case it will happen more frequently the Juice box suggested could be an idea, although i think that i dont like the sound of the 3 high speed fans. My D10 is so queiet even with the Titan.
A second isue is that i wanted to try to use the standard nvidia quadro fx 1700 in my D10 next to the gtx Titan.
(to use the quadro for my monitors, and the titan for running gpu programs)
When i tried both together the fan of the quadro (which is normaly very quiete) was running on full power inmediatly after booting, And then gave an error in windows, and didnt give any graphical troughput, but the titan did.
    So open points are:
1)if i can reproduce the black screen when playing a DVD or under high load,
2)trying to run 2 graphic cards in parralel. (the second card beign a low power one)
    I will update.

  • Is there an 8 pin to 8 pin dock extender

is there an 8 pin to 8 pin dock extender

That’s great but have you tried to use anything like this in a car kit? The phone then doesn’t fit. Apple people are a bit thick when it comes to solving problems like this. Why not make an adapter like the Lightening to micro USB? I mean come on! What is the problem. Charge £20 for it and make it at a cost of 20p each and rip us people off who want to use your phones on building sites in toughened cases and not get a new screen every time you breathe on it in the wrong way. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a tiny extender so that we can all use our phones properly and not have to take them out of their cases every time we want to put them in the car kit!  Very poor show. L

  • How to get iMovie version 9.09/2009 Mac version 10.7.5 to recognize JVC GR-DX77U camcorder via 9 pin to 4 pin firewire and import video

My question: Is it possible to get iMovie version 9.09/2009 MacBook Pro/ Mac Os X version 10.7.5 to recognize JVC GR-DX77U camcorder via 9 pin to 4 pin firewire and import video?
My camcorder is recognized with 4 pin to 4 pin firewire on laptop with Windows operating system; however, it will not recognize on MacBook Pro with 9pin to 4 pin firewire. JVC website does not offer any updated camcorder driver software for this camcorder and older version driver on CD will not download onto MacBook Pro.

    Hi
With the reservation of that I us:
    • iMovie 9.0.4
    • Mac OS X.6.9
    see my notes
    NO CAMERA or A/D-box
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toggle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on <-> off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK e.g. recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
    • Is the dip-switches set right ?
    • Set to same standard as recorded/editing e.g. NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    • Try resetting it
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    External device’s (hard disk’s)
    • Should be FireWire as USB/USB2 performs badly and so does Airport or Net-work connected ones too.
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - DO NOT WORK for video due to 4Gb barrier.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited. No Camera or A/D-box
    • GarageBands fix - Close iMovie, Open GarageBand, Play some notes, Close GB and iMove can now be OK
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref. file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    • Screen Saver - OFF
    • Energy Saver - OFF
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.

(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After un-installing Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odw_en_GB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • I have my Canon GL2 connected to my I-Mac OSX version10.7.3 with a Belkin 800/400 9-pin to 4-pin firewire cable not working!!

I have my Canon GL2 connected to my I-Mac OSX version10.7.3 with a Belkin 800/400 9-pin to 4-pin firewire cable and the computer is not acknowledging the camera.

While holding the option key, click the  in the menu bar and select System Information. Select Firewire in the Hardware section and see if your camera shows up as a connected Firewire device. If not, then you have one of three basic problems:
         1. Defective Firewire cable
         2. Defective Firewire port on computer
         3. Defective Firewire port on camcorder
Rule out any of the above by trying a different cable, Firewire device (like a hard drive) or try your camcorder/cable on a different/friend's computer.
If you suspect a Firewire port problem on your computer, you can try resetting it by shutting down and disconnecting the power cable to the computer. Wait for 30 minutes and plug back in and startup. You can also try resetting Parameter RAM (PRAM) on the iMac. (Apple's Instructions for reseting PRAM)

  • Mac Mini to new iMac via FireWire (9-pin to 6-pin cable necessary?)

I can't seem to find a straight answer on this.
Am I correct in assuming that the only FireWire cable that can be used to connect a Mac Mini to a new iMac is a 9-pin to 6-pin cable such as http://store.apple.com/us/product/TP320LL/A?mco=MzE2OTkyOA ?
6-pin cables won't fit in the new iMac? I don't have the iMac yet so I can't check.
    Thanks,

Or you can just get an adapter and use your existing FireWire 400 cable.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/FIR1369AD/
Or you can use a standard Ethernet cable and use +Fire Sharing+. Both your Macs would have gigabit Ethernet ports, so as long as the cable is Cat-5e or better, it would be pretty fast.

  • Maps - how to drop multiple pins/have multiple pins show?

For some reason, I am having a huge amount of difficulty with this. Even when it seems I "save" them as a bookmark, they disappear when I go to put the next address in. What we're trying to use this for is garage sale-ing, i.e. entering the address ahead of time and then going from there. We actually found an app specifically for this, and when you pull it up it does show multiple (red) pins on the map. Problem is, they're incorrect, thus the searching continues. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

This is beyond anything I have ever tried. But I think I know what you have in mind, and you should be able to do it using JavaScript. I did it with still images on this page:
    http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/adventures/tr2005/ohfair2.html
You would need to give the movie container a name so that you can access it from JavaScript, and you have the added problem of needing to control the QuickTime object from JavaScript. Have a look at the QuickTime JavaScript API; it might be helpful:
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/quicktime/Conceptual/QTScripting_JavaSc ript/index.html
In spite of the code on that gallery page I linked above, I really don't speak JavaScript, and I barely understand how my own code works. But I think JavaScript will allow you to do what you want to do, and you can probably even write a custom controller for the movie right into your web page.

  • Mini display to hdmi adapter problem

    Hi,
When I connected my mini display to hdmi adapter to hdmi, and hdmi cable to my ASUS PA238QR monitor, my early 2011 MBP 13" detects the monitor, but the monitor shows "hdmi no signal".
I tried unplugging everything, including the adapter and hdmi, but to no avail. I tried putting my computer to sleep, and waking it up, still, nothing seemed to be the cause of the problem.
I read through some old discussion on this issue, and nobody seems to have a solid solution besides purchasing another adapter.
I tried booting into win7 and still, the monitor shows "hdmi no signal".
I am 100% sure my monitor and hdmi works becuase when I used other laptops it's fine.
Thus, I'm suspecting it's the mini display to hdmi adapter's problem.
Is there a way I can make sure that my macbook pro is outputting the signal?
Any recommendation or advises are welcomed. Thanks for reading.

If you've an HDMI port on your television, you could always try that.
I've used this adapter from Monoprice successfully - not bad for under $7.
Give your TV a try - if no go, then you'll know that it's an adapter problem.
    Good luck,

    Hi Gary,Welcome to Apple Discussions.
All Macs with Firewire have 6pin Firewire 400 connectors. They are superior as they provide power to a device as well as data. Only some PCs and some devices use 4pin FW400 connectors which transfer data only.
For your information please see the diagram below which shows both connector types.
