4 simple questions(I guess) about audio files in FCP X.

Hello,please help me.
1) Is it appropriate to import my audio files from "Music and Sound Browser" tab into FCPX) or its a better idea to arrange all Audio files
what I am going to use in a folder and then import from finder window?
2)Is it possible to drag and drop music tracks from "Music and  Sound Browser " tab  to Event Browser without put the audio
in sequence?how?
3)How to import a part of a music / soundtrack? (Can I mark in / out  BEFORE I drag to timeline)? I mean, set IN / OUT directly from
Music and Sound Browser"  tab.
4)How to connect music / sounds  what I have in  "Music and Sound Browser"  tab TO  connected clips (NOT to primary story line clips)?
thank you

Actually, you can have music from the Media Browser edit any way you want into a Timeline: either to a Storyline, or be a Connected Clip, or do an Insert Edit.  Highlight the song, click the desired Edit button.  Keyboard shortcuts don't work for this.
Drag-and-drop any selection for the Media Browser to an Event.  It will COPY that audio file into your Event folder, so you'll now have two physical copies.  One in iTunes/sound library, one in your Event folder.

  • Problems importing audio files in FCP 7.0.1

Has anyone else noticed FCP 7 being much more picky about audio files being imported? MP3s, WAVs & AIFFs that all play on my system or in Quicktime are not being recognized by FCP. The only pattern I can see to these files is they were not created on Macs and may lack certain metadata that FCP expects, but generally, I work under the assumption that if Quicktime can read a file, FCP can too - and that is proving not to be the case.

Thanks for the tip re: JPG v TIFF. And I've done a MP3 -> AIFF conversion now as well.
As it turned out, my problem was not a FCP preferences corruption, but was a matter of where the files came from...we were given a DVD with the still & audio files on them. When I copied those files from the DVD to our Server and then to the Raid hooked up to our Mac, the files would not import. If I went directly from the DVD to the raid, the files imported. Not sure how to make sense of that...but good to be aware of it, and hopefully if anyone else runs into this odd occurrence, this solves it for them...

  • Need to export an AC3 audio file from FCP

Does anyone know how to export (or convert to) and AC3 audio file from FCP? My compressor is not currently working, is there another way? I have Sorenson Squeeze and FCP 5.0.4. Thank you!!!
    alex

Upload your audio file to my Public folder and wait 20 mins. I'll compress the audio to .ac3 for you if you're in a crunch. Check back in my Public Folder and I'll have it there for you.

  • ITunes and Finder - how are info about audio files refreshed?

I am now in the process of embedding artwork in my mp3-files using CoverScout. I have also updated info about all my tracks in the iTunes after embedding the artowrk, by selecting all the files and clicking GeitInfo and clicking OK (without making any changes). All albums are displayed correctly with new artworks. This, however, is not the case with the Finder.
Generally, if a mp3-file has (embedded) artwork then the file would be displayed as a thumbnail of the artwork in question. The thing is that the icons for the mp3-files that were recently embedded with artworks are displayed as lacking artwork (they are displayed with the simple iTunes icon). Moreover, the Preview of GetInfo window does not show that the mp3-files contain the embedded artwork. The files are not refreshed. However, if I copy or duplicate those files then the copied files are displayed correctly, with the right getinfo. This, however, does not work if moving files. The files are not refreshed when moved, only when copying or duplicating.
I find it curious that Finder does not refresh the files, even after restarting the Mac, given the fact that iTunes have the information that there is artwork. Is there a way to refresh the files in the finder without copying or duplicating the files?
Another curious thing with albums containing tracks with embedded artwork is as follows: the Finder displays some of the tracks as thumbnails of the artwork in question, but not with all the files. The same goes for the Preview of the files in GetInfo. Some have the correct Preview displaying the artwork, but some lack the info about the artwork in the Preview. Why are not all files displayed as having embedded artwork, but only some, given the fact that they belong to the same album and the artwork was embedded in the same way?
The same goes when I embed the artwork without CoverScout, by updating multiple files through iTunes (dragging the artwork to the Artwork-field in Info). The Finder does not display that the files are embedded. I must copy or duplicate these files in order to refresh the info.
A more general question: how do I refresh files in the Finder? There is no refresh button, as in the Windows.
    I would appreciate your help.
    Kind regards
    Alex

I was wrong about one thing concerning refreshing the files. I said that restarting the Mac would not refresh the files. However, if the iTunes have info about album's/tracks artwork then the Finder will also have this info after rebooting the system. My question is whether the Finder can be refreshed, without rebooting (restarting)?

  • Question marks with some audio files

    Hello all,
I've been trying to understand the problem I'm having with some audio files of my website, but to no avail. Some audio file are not loaded up with Quicktime, and only show a question mark with a blue "Q" around it.
In other words, would any of you be able to help me find out why the audio files in the following pages do not work:

    I really appreciate your help.

You are giving viewers the full title on your web page.
You could cut your files names like < Beethovens_Piano_Concerto_no._2_in_B-flat_major%2C_op._19_-_i._Allegro_conbrio.html >
    to something like BthvnPC2BfM.
Publish to a folder and look in the "Media" folder to see that all your files are there.
A better way to provide a download is to ZIP the music file and link to it via "Link to: A file" in the Link Inspector.
Type "Download" over the file name that appears and select your rollover colors and U or not in the format page.

  • Simple Question Calling methods from Java files through JSP without JVM

    Hi.
I've got a simple question (forigve my newbieness)...
If I'm running Tomcat can I exectue a method in a compiled Java file from a JSP page without having the JVM installed on the server?
Any thoughts or additional comments would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

No... but that's because you can't run Tomcat without
a JVM installed on the server.
If you are running Tomcat, you are running a JVM for
the JSP pages to run in, in which case, yes, the JSP
pages can call the other Java code... as long as it's
in the classpath. Thanks a lot for the replies.
So just to check, if I sign up with a hosting company that offers Tomcat then the JVM will be installed on the server and I can call other Java code as long as it's in the classpath?
I just want to make sure before I sign up with a hosting company =D
    Thanks again!

  • Polyphonic audio files exported to individual mono audio files in FCP

I am working in audio post and can not work with polyphonic files. I need my FCP editor to export (they are currently using XML) the timeline audio as separate mono files, such that if a file in their timeline is polyphonic and has 4 audio files embedded I need them to be 4 mono files so that Pro Tools can work with them.
    Any thoughts?

Just a thought (as no-one has responded) what about using soundtrack pro? First send the time line from FCP (in multitrack form) and then see if STP can deliver what you need.
I' be interested to know of other folks experience of polyphonic files. I've not had chance to play with them but there'll be that day. With a deadline...

  • Can't import audio files in FCP after snow leopard update

i've recently updated to snow leopard. and i'm running Final Cut Pro 6.0.6
i opened a .fcp project i created a long time ago. i tried to import a .aif file and final cut crashes. i converted the .aif file to a .mp3 file. tried to import it, and final cut crashed.
i then went and deleted the preference files for final cut pro, reopened final cut, tried importing both files again, it still crashes.
does anyone have a legitimate answer for why this is happening?

    BenB wrote:
1st, FCP does not officially support MP3 audio files, so don't even use them. I'm running FCP 7 on Snow Leopard, no problems with audio files.
1- How are you encoding them? What software is creating these files?
2- Are you running on an external FW800 drive?
3- How much RAM are you running?
And as my final observation is, NEVER run Final Cut Pro 6 on Snow Leopard! Huge no-no! If you upgrade to Snow Leopard, only use FCS3. I've updated lots of systems for my students and clients, and I've seen lots of FCP6 on SL problems.
    Message was edited by: BenB
I agree that you shouldn't use MP3 files with FCP, the manual tells you that somewhere If I recall properly, but it shouldn't cause Final Cut to crash, at least that has never been my experience, it has just caused a skipping problem, or not playing the complete song.
I don't really understand wht a FW800 drive or the amount of RAM have to do with it, it would sure be interesting to hear your comments on that.
However, in all due respect, to make the statement that one should NEVER run Final Cut Pro 6 on Snow Leopard seems pretty "out there" would you be so kind as to provide your rationale for such a drastic statement as that. Has there been anything official from Apple along those lines?

  • Simple question: sending data from as file to a swf

    hi,
I'm new to AS3 language, so maybe this is a silly question.
I'm using a Flash 3D visualization tool (Flare3D) to display 3D contents in flash.
the project consist of a blank fla project and a .as file (main.as) that manage the creation and the diplay of 3D contents.
Now I want to display the name of the 3D object that I select in a text box created in the fla.
    I wrote:
    in main.as
         var selectedMesh:String = e.target.name                //the 3D object I select
    in step1.fla, frame 1
root.infoBox.infoBoxText.text = selectedMesh;          //where I want to display the name of the object I've selected
When I publish the swf file, it report two errors:
1180: Call to a possibly undefined method addFrameScript.
1119: Access of possibly undefined property infoBox through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
what's the problem with that? maybe I nedd to extend movieClip class in main.as or something else?
    thank you

First, you need to post more verbose errors with line numbers - figuring what lines of code from which object throw errors and will help you to pinpoint the source. Then post these offensive lines.
Otherwise it is practically impossible to give you any suggestions (this is unless one has a christal ball)

  • Simple question, does TM delete oldest files to make room for the newest?

"Time machine could not complete the backup. This backup is too large for the backup disk." (requires 12.37 Gb, only 7.34 available)
On the 500Gb TC, why can't it delete 12.37 and continue?
It was working fine, using TM for three systems, 2 MBAir, 1 MMini.
    Nothing was changed.
Does TM delete oldest files to make room for the newest?
If the backup were bigger than the TC, that seems to be the only thing TM/TC can't handle. True?

I'm taking this Q down because I know the answer is true, so I've stated the wrong Q.

  • Question about audio channels in FCP

Because of the way audio was captured with a few clips in my sequence, the clips audio is only coming through one channel (speaker). The other channel contains nothing. How can I duplicate the channel with audio and assign it to the other speaker?

I did notice that. There are a small few of us on here.

  • Sync Pro Tools audio file into FCP

Here's a quick description of what we will be doing. We are going to be editing all of the video for an event, and hiring an audio company to do the 5.1 for it. They then will send us a final mix of the 5.1, and we need to put this with our video. It sounds like they will be sending us OMF files. From what I can tell, FCP will not import these OMFs. How do we sync the audio to the video for the final DVD?

I usually give my Audio Guy a 2-pop (one frame tone hit) at the 2 second before picture mark..just like you see with film leader. So at 59:58:00 I have the one frame pop. I usually include an 8 second visual countdown at the head for reference.
Same with the end...two seconds after picture a 2 pop...nad flashing the number 2 one more time....visual reference.

  • Audio file for FCP

Hi, ive got something I cut together in FCP and am having a professional voice over made for it. Im wondering what file format it would have to be in if I want the ability to edit the audio track later on (so i can see the actual track(s) itself) without just laying the 30 second clip in? Also, there are multiple tracks because there is the voice and then the underlying music and I need to be able to edit all of it. So in what format should i ask for the file?
    thanks

AIFF, 48khz, 16 bit stereo. That is what FCP likes.
