4 stream Multicam stuttering in playback

I have a 4 stream multicam timeline with 1080/30P footage, 2 streams from XDCAM EX cameras and two from 5D Mark III's.  Clip is 29 minutes long and after the first 4-5 minutes playback is stuttering regardless of where I have playback resolution set.  I double checked that I was on Cuda render.  I'm using an internal 7200 rpm drive with write speed at 150.5 MB/s and read speed at 179.1 MB/s.  Any suggestions on how to remedy this rather annoying issue.  If I pause and restart it will play for 5-10 seconds then starts stuttering again.  Trashed preferences & restarted with no apparent effect.

You're right, I have changed the frame size and adjusted an inconsistency in settings (in one place, I had audio set to 44 GHZ). It's working fine in playback now, BUT I still have the problem in print to tape mode, audio stutters in different place every time.
(I am playing out over Firewire through a Canopus converter ADVC 110 to tape on a Sony SX DNW-A225 edit deck.)
Where else do you suggest I troubleshoot?

  • Stuttering flv playback issue- need help asap

We need help asap. Have a project is due to deliver today (5/14).
We have a video to go on a dvd-rom, live action with Motion Graphics behind.
When output is done thru Projector the Motion Graphics stutter as they scroll.
    Here is more technical info:
    Stuttering flv playback issue:
Prores 422 timeline 29.97fps 1280x720 output from fcp using current settings.
Mov file is approx 7gb, plays relatively smooth on a mac pro with no raid.
Frame by frame analysis shows all frames are present with no jumps tears or skips.
Tried several output paths, programs and settings to create a smooth flv file to no avail.
We adjusted data rates from 2k, 3.5k, 4k and 8k, no luck
We adjusted keyframe rates from low to all frames, no luck.
We tried cs3 flash encoder, cs5 media encoder, squeeze ect, same results.
Playback in the flash projector seems to choke slightly no matter what we do.
Have also posted in the Director Forum.
    Any help much appreciated!

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
Try playing the file using a different xtra, sometimes different ones will work better.  If you have Director 11.5, there is a native flv playback xtra.
You can build a player easily in Flash using the flvPlayback component, then bring that into Director as a swf.
Once you have the video in Director, try making the member Direct To Stage (DTS).  If it is already DTS, try making it not DTS.
Make sure the video is not transparent, and nothing in Director overlaps the video... in fact, when the video is playing, nothing should be moving at all, and try to keep the amount of code that is running to a minimum.
Try lowering your video's data rate further or try using a different codec.
Using VBR (Variable Bit Rate) compression often makes the video appear to play smoother.
Try compressing the flv with different software.  FFMpeg, for example, is free and does a very good job, often better than the Flash Video Encoder that comes with Flash/Creative Suite.

  • Timeline frequently stutters during playback after upgrade to Premiere Pro CC 2014?

I recently upgrade to Premiere Pro CC 2014 and I have noticed that my timeline playback frequently stutters on playback if I jump around in the timeline. Other times if I just hit play the sequence will start playing back fine but then it will start stuttering after a few shots? This never happened before. I'am playing back C100 AVCHD media using create sequence from clip option for my timeline settings. I recently upgraded to Yosemite OS on my mac pro and I have not noticed any improvement. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info Kevin. However on doing more probing into my problem I
realized the problem was being cause by my Kona LHi card. The Kona card has
started to whining sound, so I disconnected the card. When I went back in
Premiere Pro everything in the time line played back really fast with no
stuttering. The response time in the timeline is very fast. And I can jump
around the timeline with no problem. I will be getting my Kona Card looked
at by AJA, I'm sure there is a problem with card.

  • Experiencing lots of audio stutters / choppy playback

With Adobe Flash Player in Youtube I am experiencing lots of audio stutters / choppy playback.  The problem started happening only recently and seems to be getting worse.  I am running Flash Player 11.2.202.208 in Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP (SP3) with a pentium 4.  I cleared my internet history / cookies.  I did a disk clean up and defrag.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Player, and also turning off hardware acceleration in Flash Player.  What else can I do?
    Thanks.

    Hi Daniel,
I think the best approach at this point would be to gather system information and open a new bug report at bugbase.adobe.com.  Could you take a look at the following FAQ and gather the info needed and open a new bug report?  Once opened, please post back here with the bug URL.
How do I troubleshoot and report problems with Flash Player Video?

  • How to fix stuttering song playback?

Over the past week, I began experiencing stuttering song playback in iTunes.  I tried to lower the sound enhancement settings to no avail.  Please help.  System:  XP Home, 32 bit.
Note:  Am using iTunes 10.7 because I had problems with missing tracks and error messages in the most recent version of iTunes.  Haven't had any other problems since the downgrade.

    Hello Ayanna R
Verify that you have done some of the other steps in the article below to resolve issues with audio playback. The only other advice I can give is updating iTunes.

  • Airport streaming and stuttering

setup = imac g5, airport express
    software = iTunes, RealPlayer
issue = streaming radio, mp3 streams, real streams
    problem = stuttering streams
for a long time now, my streams all stutter. they drop out as well, but it's the stuttering that has me flummoxed. doesn't matter if it's an mp3 stream or real stream. they are almost intolerable. i strongly suspect that the issue is with the airport express, or at some point along there. the issue is not the stream as it originates from the sender
i also have no idea what to do about it. may i have some tips or suggestions? i devote considerable time to listening to radio streams. i don't want to give them up. but this is horrible. thanks

It sounds like an interference issue.

thanks for your response. have considererd all these things. indeed, we have a known issue with our neighbors cordless phone, which knocks our wifi network out every time they make a call. i don't feel that explains the sudden stuttering of my radio streams.

  • (CS5.5) Nikon Files Stuttering on Playback. Canon files were fine. Do I need a different sequence setting, computer upgrade?

I have been editing in Premiere CS 5.5 and have always enjoyed a generally seamless experience, but since switching camera systems from Canon to Nikon, I can't play back more than 2 Nikon layers without playback stuttering. I could easily stack 3 or more Canon layers without issue.all
I believe I am following best practices for my hardware, and like I said, I have been successful in the past, but it seems my machine doesn't respond to Nikon video anywhere near as well as it did with Canon. Has anyone else experienced this?
    Here is my system info:

    1TB WB Black (Projects, Data)
    1TB WD Black (Previews, Export)
GTX 560 Ti 2GB (enabled Mercury GPU)
Any thoughts or suggestions on getting things back up to speed, or do I need an upgrade? It's just SLR footage, I feel like this system should be more than capable of 2 streams.
    Thanks!

  • XPS 8700, Sound stuttering during playback

I have a new 2 month old Dell XPS 8700.  I notice the other day a sound problem that is strange to say the least. When I play back a .flac or .mp3 file, the sound stutters. It's like it comes out in pulses once a second. It's quite un-listenable. Not sure when this started. I'm running Windows 8.1 fully updated as of 2/6/2015. The problem shows up with Windows 8 music player, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center and vlc. All show the exact same playback anomaly. It also happens when I use the same players to play an .avi or .mkv video. The sound is bad no matter which audio port I use. I also get the same artifact using USB Headphones with their own DAC. What is weird about this symptom is that if stream Pandora, Somafm, or watch a youtube video, I do NOT get this symptom. The audio is perfectly fine. I ran the  Dell PC Checkup and no problems are detected. Device Manager says all my drivers are up to date. Any ideas about what is going on and how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

I did.  I tried the update, but it failed because I already had the update.  I had installed it a few weeks ago when I was setting up the PC and downloading all the Windows, Office and Dell updates.
Ironies of ironies is that the failed update helped me resolve the problem.  I thought I would uninstall the Realtek drivers via Device Manager which I did.  But, before running the update again, I checked to see if the symptom was still present. The stuttering went away!  Problem solved.
It seems that this is working with an Invidia sound driver from what I can surmise from Device Manager. So, I'm just not going to install the Realtek driver unless there is a change in the symptom.  I'm beginning to think that it was the updating I did a few weeks ago that broke my sound!
    Thanks again for helping.

  • Audio stutters in playback

    Hello,
After my ibook has been on for a while I get intermittent but fairly consistent stuttering in all audio playback (regardless of app). I'm running 10.2.8 w/classic active but can't seem to narrow it down to a conflict w/any other app. It usually takes some time to occur but once it's there, only a restart will resolve it (until it starts happening again).
I recently switched out my 256mb chip for a 512, but if the ram were the culprit wouldn't it happen right away?
Thanks in advance for any ideas

Thanks for the response and ideas Klaus,
I tried what you suggested but, unfortunately, the problem persisted. I'm fairly certain it's not an issue of inherent speed of my machine or its architecture or the os or version of quicktime. The same machine w/same system, playing the exact same types of mp3 files, has been working without these stutters for a long time, and nothing has changed w/my audio apps or the os. Also, the stuttering occurs on all and any audio app, even ones that I believe don't use quicktime (VLC etc...). This problem started only recently.
My hunch is that it could be a bottleneck of some sort or RAM or cache not letting go of or not flushing unnecessary data, or maybe a conflict w/an another app (though almost none are running when the problem crops up and the ones that are have been in use for a year or so w/out these problems).
So if I take the machine/speed out of the troubleshooting, I'm left to wonder if it could be the new RAM I installed. But, again, the stuttering doesn't happen right away and sometimes takes a day or so of the machine being on to start happening. but once it does, it doesn't go away until a restart.
**If it were faulty RAM, would the problem show up right away?
**Or is it a corrupt preference file somewhere, but, again, wouldn't that cause the problem to show up right away, too?
    Thanks again

  • Windows 7 (64bit)  itunes choppy stuttering audio playback

    Hi All,
I'm new to these forums so apologise in advance if this topic has been covered already....
I recently upgraded my Dell to Windows 7 64 bit and also upgraded iTunes/ QuickTime to the 64 bit version which resulted in audio playback in iTunes stuttering every few seconds. I waited for the latest release thinking it must be a bug which apple are addressing. Just installed it (ver. 10.1.056) but the problems is still there. I’ve tweaked quick time, installed the newest possible audio drivers, for my soundcard nothing makes any difference. If i use windows media player to play my music its absolutely fine , no stuttering , no problems at all. So why can't apple get their act together?
Has anyone else experienced this problem or found a fix? if so please get in touch.
    Thanks for reading
    Dave

I have a similar problem. I recently got a new laptop with Windows 7 64-Bit. I've started to rebuild my iTunes library and it was all going well. However, I noticed a lot of my files are starting to loop the first second or so of the intro for around 6 seconds before the song plays normally. At the time, I didn't think of this as a problem, but the exact same looping occurs on the iPod itself on the same files, at the same time, everytime.
After deleting the broken files and getting new versions of the same songs, I decided to test them in Windows Media Player first and there was no intro looping. Assuming all was well, I added these files to iTunes, tidied up the song info, added album art and then played the tracks to see if the looping was still gone. Some of the tracks were fine, but others had developed the intro looping. Playing these same files in Windows Media Player again, after running them throgh iTunes, also now has the looping which it previously did not.
iTunes seems to be destroying my files. Is there any way to fix this?

  • Stuttering movie playback

    Hi!
I have recently noticed that movies I watch using VLC and Quicktime halts for a few second during playback. This occurs every few minutes.
I have checked the Activity Monitor and it seems like there is a peak in the Disk Activity coinciding with the moments of the halts.
I have tried repairing disk permissions, and also disabled the "Put disk to sleep..." option.
I also seem to get the same thing when watching streaming movies.
Does anyone else experience this? Is there any problems with my hard drive?

I'm having exactly the same problem. It started in the last few months. The only way to watch a movie from My 1tb Western Digital External Drive in front row is to back out of the movie and resume playback. Every ten minutes or so the screen gets pixilated and when it clears the sound is out of sync. I have tried using the other common video playback applications such as VLC, Quicktime, Plex, etc. Nothing seems to straighten out. I did notice that a large MKV file that I had ended up being corrupted. I'm hoping that all of my video files aren't going to end up that way. There are a few hundred on there. Can a hard drive just take a dive like that or is there some underlying issue with the reading of information by the Mac itself? Thanks for any insight.

  • Hanging/Stuttering During Playback

Has anyone else experienced their iPod Classic hanging or stuttering: sometimes when my 160 GB black iPod Classis is playing a song, it will, out-of-the-blue, stop playing the song for about 3-6 sec, only the come back and resume playing where it had left off? It's as if I had paused the track for a few seconds, but I use it at work with the iPod just sitting on the table (no jogging or rough treatment that could have possibly accidentally bumped the pause button) and it will do this about 2 or 3 times a day.
I haven't found what makes it do this, so it would be hard for me to take it to the Apple Store and show them that it is happening. Just wondering if this is happening to others or if my iPod is defective...

    Hi.
Will you all try the following in iTunes.
    Edit>Preferances>Playback & Uncheck Crossfade.
    Then resync your iPod.
Give it a week and see if you notice any differance. It happened to me in iTunes but as I don't use the iPod much I can honestly say I hadn't noticed it happen there, But I went through every thing in Itunes until I cured it and haven't had the problem since. I got fed up with Ella Fitzgerald sounding like she was gargling.
Logicly speaking it had to be something we were doing to enhance the way the Music we listen to sound better.
So I switched everything off to do with sound and then switched them back on one by one. As soon as I turned Crossfade back on Ella had another gargle.
Feedback would be appreciated as regard the iPod doing the same.
    Thanks.

  • Video stuttering on playback

    Mac Mini, mid 2011 (2.3Ghz i5), 8G RAM, OSX 10.9
    Intel HD Graphics 3000 512MB
I've tried both Quicktime and VLC.  When I playback HDTV.x264 mp4 videos I get periodic stuttering / hesitation.  They do seem to occur most often when there is a moving, wide shot (although not every time), but they occur at other times as well.  It makes watching a show/movie tough.
80+% CPU idle, Memory is in good shape, disk activity is low, and the monitor is connected via an Apple Thunderbird/HDMI cable.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this?  Is there a different media player that would work better?  Or a setting somewhere?
