4 Th generation ipod does not charge?

It will sync but nothing else.  Does the battery die on these things all of a sudden?

Does the non-connecting iPod charge and sync via USB to a computer?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
-  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My Ipod does not charge when I plug it into my computer.

Does anyone know why? I have a 3rd generation 15gb ipod running on a windows computer. It seems to eat up my battery if i try to charge it in my computer.

3rd generation iPods don't charge over USB.

  • Why is my 4th generation ipod touch not charge? I plug it into the computer and the wall and with 2 different usb cables and its not charging. When its plugged in it shows the icon for charging but the battery never increases and it dies once i disconnect

I have a 4th generation Ipod Touch. It has been working for months when yesterday the battery started acting werid. I was driving and it was connected with the usb charger cable to my car stereo when all the sudden my music stopped and the stereo could not recognize my ipod at all. When I got back home, I tried to charge it so it wouldnt die but even while on the charger in the wall the battery continued to die. I charged it over night (the first time I have ever charged it over night) desperately to have battery for a 4 o clock plane flight so I would have entertianment. The ipod died over night while on the charger. When I unplugged it from the usb charging cable I noticed that the icon telling me the ipod needed to be charged came up. So I plugged it back in. The charging thunder bolt symbol popped up next to the very small red strip on the left side of the battery indicating that the ipod had no charge to turn its self on. I tried plugging it in on the computer, the wall ac charger and a stereo system made just for the ipod that also pluggs into the wall. I have used 2 different cables, the result being the same that the ipod held no charge, and it wouldnt charge at all while on the charger, and it would imediately die once i take it off the charger.
I have not idea what has happened ....
    Please help
    THanks!

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

  • IPod does not charge nor shows up in Windows or iTunes

I bought a iPod nano 2Gb two days ago. After some trouble shooting I got it to work and was able to get some music on the iPod. After using the iPod yesterday I wanted to recharge the battery.
Since the computer was still on I reconnected the iPod the same it was connected when I synced it. This time however the iPod was not recognised by Windows or iTunes nor does it recharge.
    So far I've tried:
    - reset the iPod;
    - restart the computer;
    - reboot the USB drivers;
    - re-install iTunes;
    - restart iPod service on computer.
So far nothing worked. Can anyone help me??

Yesterday I tried to completly deplete the battery so now the iPod really doesn't do anything since it does not want to charge via the usb.
Before depleting the battery I tried forcing the iPod in disk-mode and then connect it to the PC. Results, nothing happened when connecting the iPod...
This evening I'll try the suggestion of adding usbstor.sys and usbsor.inf and restart the pc and see if that works. (link to that suggestion: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=785480&tstart=30)
If that fails I think I'll just return the iPod and see if I can get my money back. It only worked once since I got it three days ago.....
Still open to suggestions if anyone got some.

  • IPod does not charge or turn on but is recognized in Windows and iTunes

A couple of days ago after disconnecting my iPod in iTunes the iPod display went blank. It will not turn on nor will it display if it is charging if it is connected to the wall power adapter. I tried reseting it and I let it sit for 24 hours like the apples website said and nothing happened. What did happen is that Windoes recognizes it and so does iTunes and the hard drive spins and is acessible. I let reset it and let it sit another 24 hours and it still does not turn on nor will the power adapter recognize it. The display does not appear broken and it physically looks good.
    Any ideas?

The only thing you haven't mentioned is whether you've tried to restore it. If that doesn't work, it looks like it will need service.
Restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Put the iPod into disk mode first.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
Restoring erases the iPod hard drive, so you will need to reload your songs from iTunes.

  • Ipod does not charge

When I plug my ipod into my computer it does not light up and charge.  It just quit one day and started back only one time and I had to reset it.  After I reset it I could not get it to charge again.

No, it shouldn't or couldn't have unless you were using a non Apple branded USB charger that was designed with a high amperage output than what the Nano could handle.
Given all the information provided, it seems as though your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.  You can choose to have Apple replace the battery for a flat fee if you'd like, or you could send it to a third party repair service center and have them do the same job for a bit cheaper.
    Here is Apple's pricing.

A Google search for "iPod battery replacement" should give you a plethora of results to work through.

  • HT1665 My ipod does not charge on wall chargers or speaker/chargers made for ipods.

My sister is able to charge her ipod to the wall chargers and speaker/chargers made for ipods and my ipod touch will not charge on these.

    See the not-charging topic of:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    Have you tried another cable?
Another charging source? Does iTunes see the iPod when you connect to your computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.

  • IPod Nano, 2nd Generation. Does Not Charge, and Is Not Recognized

I have Posted: Aug 8, 2007 3:54 PM , but no replies. Also I see a certain user (Jeff) massively repeating posts.
Please help, my friends have got me an 2GB silver Ipod Nano, it goes through the whole routine on my friend's computers, they even put music into it for me, but when I connected it to my computer, the display says its fully charged (green plug inside battery) instead of charging (thunderbolt)!
I did everything, EVERYTHING, they asked online, from resets, reboots, getting latest vs. of iTunes, restarted over 10 times, switched from USB Normal and USB 2.0 ports repeatedly, followed both the tech support automated and live, then (as they asked) searched for a few hours to find the correct drivers, and installed everything I could for my VIA chipset, and it still doesnt work.
I remember one of (the call dropped initially) the tech support guys saying something about USB spor.inm
    Still can't find it.
I need to upload my music and be able to charge my iPod on my own computer! Please help!

I have the exact same problem, and nothing works. When I plug it into computer, it's recognized, it syncs, and it plays while connected. As soon as I disconnect, it's dead. I've charge it overnight, I've let it drain overnight, I've plugged it into a charger with same result, I've used it on two different computers. HELP

  • 1st generation ipod touch not charging/syncing to my Mac.

My ipod touch 1st generation is not syncing or charging to my mac.  In fact I have 2 - of the same ipods and both suddenly quit syncing/charging.  Although I have used the same docking port on my mac for months ... I tried a different port and still nothing.  The ipod lights up with the apple screen and then goes to the home screen - but nothing happens after that.   ITunes shows no devices as well.  The ipod just eventually goes to sleep.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Ipad (first generation) Battery does not charge. Need help

I tried Mac, pc and electric sockets; doesn't work. Same ports and cable I can use to charge my iPhone 4, so I know that cables and USB ports that I tried are OK.
I have 20% batter left. If I turn Ipad off and connected it to the USB cable, the Ipad automatically turns on but still doesn't charge. Also, I the iPad is not getting detected by the iTunes.
Does it mean that my iPad battery is dead?

Try a Reset - (For those who do not know, hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 15 seconds.) even do it a couple of times.
I am a little confused as to when you see or do not see the battery symbol etc etc. You mentioned a 20% battery strength and if that still applies then the following comment would be of little relevance (it may take completely drained batteries 20 minutes or more to indicate that they're actually charging).
As to the iPad not showing up in iTunes, try a different USB port, even a number of times.

I need help to get the iPod to charge its battery and to operate normally with iTunes.

Please supply some more information, such as:
    What version of iTunes?
What operating system (Mac or Windows) and what version?
What iOS version on the iPod?
Have you tried a different cable? Sometimes cables go bad.

  • 5th generation ipod does not show up on itunes

I have tried reinstalling itunes and the ipod hardware many times but there is still the same problem. The ipod showed up once before but since that time itunes has not recognized the ipod as being connected to the computer. Is there something wrong with my usb port??

I have bumped into this problem as well, check the following things:
    - Do you have a USB 2.0?
    - Is there any device conflicting with the drive which is designed to iPod? For instance, I had my iPod ben put under C:\. Apparently iTunes thought that was my harddisk. In Control Panel> Computer Management you can change the name of your drivers. Call iPod M:\ or something.
Doesn't this work? Apple has a Troubleshooter on its website called "iPod recognised in Windows, not recognised in iTunes" or something like that (easy to find). Good luck!
