40" samsung + mini+ isight picture?

After spendig 4 hours at CC hooking up my g4 Ibook and their mac mini to both a 32"& 40" samsng lcd.. the picture
was awesome!! Used the vga dongle to the vga in on the samsung. Pictures, slideshows, web & E mail text very clear.
Now the question. I video conf. every week using my 12" G4
Ibook. We are both on broadband using Mac's & Isight's. I have very good images even at full screen on my I book, not as good as the reduced screen size but still good. Given the resolution of the 32" or 40" Samsungs is 1368x768 somewhat the same as my Ibook and also the mini.. would the isight images on the LCDS be way too blurry at the increased screen size or be somewhat the same as I am getting on my Ibook?
I am going to get the mini this week W/ 1 gig ram.

Works as good with the default size screen

  • Connecting MacBook to Samsung Mini DV Camcorder

I have a MacBook and I would like to get my videos from a samsung mini DV camcorder. How can I do this?  I don't have firewire port on MacBook.  I tried buying a firewire with USB end and it does not work.  Please help.

Sadly you need a MacBook that has Firewire.  USB 2 camcorders exist, but all of them compress video before sending it via USB.  The newest MacBook Airs and Pros are compatible with Thunderbolt which can be converted to USB 3 which doesn't have the capacity of bandwidth issue, but can interfere with WiFi.   Firewire and Thunderbolt are far better standards to deal with.
And there is no way to directly convert a Firewire to USB signal or vice versa.
If your mini-DV camcorder records to media directly on the Camcorder such as mini-DV discs. http://www.macsales.com/ offers tray loading DVD drives that may be able to read those discs.

  • SAMSUNG MINI DV CAMCORDER NOT SEEN BY GIGABIT G4

I have two Macs (a 350Mhz Yikes! PCI Graphics with 512mb & a Dual 450MHz Gigabit Ethernet with 1.5GB). Both machines are running OS 10.2.8, and have iMovie 3 installed. I tried to connect my Samsung Mini DV (SC-D6550) to the DP G4 via Firewire...but in ASP it says "no firewire device found". I just happen to try & connect it to the PCI Graphics G4...and it worked fine! That's cool, but I really want to utilize the CPU speed & extra RAM of the DP G4 when working with video. Currently, or until I resolve this Firewire problem...I've networked the two G4's thru Ethernet, I capture using the slower G4 and then I move the video footage over to the DP G4 for editing. It works this way....but it's a bit of a hassle.

My guess is a bad firewire port. I highly doubt permissions or pram is the issue.
Make sure the camera is off, and whatever you are using to edit is closed (imovie, final cut). Plug the cable in, then turn the editing software on. If that doesn't work, it sounds like your port is bad. Try with another port, or try to hook up a known good device. If you can confirm that the port is good, repost here any more details you can think of.

instead of doing a restore, go to Disk Utility, have your iPod in disk mode and plug it with your Mac, go to Tab "Partition" and click "Partition", go back "erase" and click "Erase". Eject your iPod and do a Reset, open the iPod updater and click "restore"

  • How can I make the Ipad II tether to my Samsung mini smart phone?

I know how to tether as I have successfully tethered my Samsung mini to my Windows laptop but I get an error message on the ipad II saying it is unable to connect even though my phone is listed in the available networks and I have entered the correct password.
I would appreciate a solution please.

Samsung smartphones - or at least the Galaxy line - have a feature similar to the iPhone called a personal hot spot. If you activate that on your Samsung device it will appear as any other WiFi hotspot for your iPad. Connect to that and you will have Internet access for your iPad.

  • HT204154 MBP to Samsung HDTV no picture

Hi, I have a MBP8.3 OSX 10.9.5. I try to connect to a Samsung series 5203 LED TV as an external second display using a Minidisplayport/thunderbolt to HMDI adapter/cable. The MBP recognizes a Samsung device, but no picture. The Samsung recognizes a wire in the HDMI port so the TV 'source' is correct. I have tried both HMDI ports on TV. I have tried all the display resolutions either with mirror or non mirror options. The mini display port--VGA adaptor will drive properly an INSIGNA external monitor. Any suggestions? Love my MAC but out of my knowledgebase here. Thanks

Your display may not be on the "approved" list, or was removed from it. (Sony televisions seem to fail the HDCP handshake more than others.)
Apple's Mac lines includes a form of digital copy protection that will prevent protected media, such as DRM-infused iTunes movies, from playing back on devices that aren't compliant with the new priority protection measures.
The Hollywood demanded technology is called High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) and aims to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across a variety of display connectors, even if such copying is not in violation of fair use laws.
Among the connectors supported by the technology are the Mini DisplayPort found on Macs, in addition to others such as Digital Visual Interface (DVI), High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), Gigabit Video Interface (GVIF), Unified Display Interface (UDI) and Thunderbolt.
Apple has apparently acquired a license for the technology and is now using it across its lines to to prevent transmission of purchased iTunes content (and some DVDs) to devices that don't include support for HDCP.

  • Samsung mini monitor SPF-83H + Mac Mini= Macintosh Plus Upgrade??

So I am trying to complete a project I have had my eyes on for the past few years, getting an old Macintosh Plus up and running with Mac OSX with all new guts. The biggest hurdle I have had is the screen, mainly because a 9" 4:3 LCD screen is pretty uncommon, and I real hassle to get hold of in New Zealand.
One cheapish screen I have come across is a 8" Samsung Photo Frame SPF-83H, which has the capability of being a Mini Monitor over USB..... for Windows only. I have been doing some playing over the past few days on Parallels with the drivers, and ive almost got it working as a monitor for the virtual OS, but what I really want is my Mac screen showing on it, which im nowhere close to.
I have read about some Displaylink drivers for mac which can enable such screens, but I havn't had any luck with them, possibly because of lack of connecting software.
Does anyone have any suggestions? has anyone one else tried this with success? Im hoping im missing just one final component, because I dont want to start looking into another screen.

Several people have done this Mod and there are forums dedicated specifically to apple mods (like apple fritter).

The James Colby system (123macmini link) seems to be the only one I could find with an color display. He went for an LCD, instead of CRT. He kept the original look of the CRT by cutting the picture tube (so the glass face stayed in place, but behind it is an LCD).
Here's the discussion where he specifies the source for the LCD display:

  • Samsung Continuum Issues - Picture messages NOT displaying embedded images + Android 2.2?

I recently purchased the samsung continuum a few months ago and have had a difficult time with the following two issues:
    The phone is NOT rooted.
    (1) Picture Messages are not displaying as embedded images in my message notifications. All i see is "Message Size and the word downloading.  The picture is only 10K, so it should download relatively fast.  The image does not appear in my gallery either.  Please help?  Where is the image and why can't i see it in my message.According to the notes in SCH-I400.DL17, this issue should have been resolved.
    (2) How come the Contiuum has not received an update to Android 2.2?  The Fascinate and Continuum were both released at the same time and the Fascinate received the update.
    Here is my phone specs:
    Phone information:
    Hardware version:  i400.0.6
    Firmware version:  2.1-update1
    Baseband version:  S:i400.0.6V.DL17
    Kernel version 2.6.29
    Build number:  SCH-I400.DL17

I don't understand how the Fascinate has Android 2.2, but is discontinued and the Continuum is still being sold new. What is up with that Verizon? I like the Continuum but would like to see it upgraded.  I still have over a year till I can get a new phone too. Very confusing.
Sorry I can't help you with the picture messages as I don't have a solution.

  • Samsung Mini-DV Camcorder And iChat AV

I have a samsung SCD103 Mini-DV Camcorder and I was wondering, is it possable to use the USB Steam function on Tiger with iChat AV? I want to be able to video chat with my friends. But I don't know it it would work. Would it?

I need some kind of USB stream, becasue if i'm in firewire mode, it is recording to my computer...
Have you actually tried it on a Mac? Your Mac won't record anything unless you open an application, like iMovie, and tell it to start recording.
Perhaps you should post your question in the iChat AV forum since your question is not, technically, related directly to a Mac mini? There are quite a few people in there who may have a suggestion for you.

  • Mac Mini & iSight

I have two Mac Minis, each connected to different iSight cameras. I use the iSight and Mac Mini to connect and talk to friends using Skype.
While talking, I frequently loose the mirophone function of the iSight. The solution is to unplug the iSight from the Mac Mini; sometimes only a reboot resolves.
This happens with both computers and both iSight cameras. Therefore, the likelihood of a "random" hardware problem is very small.
I am surprised that no one seems to raise this issue and all behave as if the iSight works properly.
    Does anyone have any idea?

    Hello all,
Only those who are using two Mac minis can have "exactly" the same problem as Vitor.
If you do not have a suggested solution for Vitor, I suggest that you post your problem in your own new thread. That way, your question can get the individual attention that it deserves.
Having come this far, if your testing shows that your problem is with your mini or your iSight, and if you have tried all the suggestions offered to Vitor, take your mini, your iSight. and your Firewire cable to your Apple-Authorized Service Provider. There are no user serviceable parts inside iSight. I suggest you take your mini, too, because your mini may need internal hardware repair.
If your testing shows that the problem is with Skype rather than with your iSight, you can take advantage of Skype's comprehensive Help features. For instance, one of Skype's Troubleshooter topics is "My mic is not working, no one can hear me."
If Skype's Troubleshooter does not help you with your Skype-specific problem, some of the other Skype Help options will. If:(1) you have tried all the suggestions offered to Vitor, and if
    (2) your iSight works with applications other thank Skype, but
    (3) your problems with Skype continue, your problem is with Skype, not with iSight.
Try searching for answers in the Skype Forums.
If you cannot find answers with a search, post your Skype-specific problem in the Skype for Mac OS X forum. You may get better suggestions from OS X users who also use Skype.
If the Skype forums fail you, too, Contact Skype Customer Support for a direct response to your particular problem from Skype Technical Support.
    Cheers,

  • Samsung LCD LN40B640 Picture Quality

I just purchased the Samsung 40 in. model number LN40b640. I hate the picture quality it has! Commercials looks better then the TV shows themselves and every TV show and movie I've watched looks like a cheap, amature movie. More like a home movie then a tv show. I feel like I'm watching people act instead of watching a tv show. The TV picture quality looked good in the store and I can't figure out what is wrong with it now. Is there a setting or something I need to try to adjust? I use Dish network...is there special wires I need for the picture to be better? Or is there something wrong with this tv? I would hate to have spent this amount of money on a TV to watch everything look like a poorly home made movie. Please help!!

I'll bet $1000000 and a house that the channels you're watching are SD (standard definition). That's why they look so bad. You saw an HD signal in the store. To get that picture quality, you'll need to subscribe to Dish Network's HD package.
BTW, HDTVs display SD content worse than SDTVs do. Your reaction is typical of most consumers who get their first HDTV and don't have HD service. Just think about it: you're inputting a 640x480 signal, and making the TV upscale it to 1920x1080. That's more than a 4000% increase. It's the same thing when you take a small picture from your camera and blow it up.

  • Mini & iSight success

I'm a new mini owner after having replaced my five year old PowerMac G5 that suffered an apparent logic board issue last month. Everything transitioned well with the exception of my external iSight camera due to the lack of a FW400 port. I purchased a NewerTechnology Voyager Q dock as part of this transition, hoping to also take advantage of its multiple connection options, but found that the mini would not recognize the camera using the dock; it had no problem with a DV camcorder via the dock's FW400 port.
I thought about trying a 6 to 9 pin adapter for the mini's FW800 port but read of mixed results with the iSight so I tried a cheap 6 to 9 pin cable instead - success! One downside is that the iSight takes the sole FW port on the mini meaning that I either need to connect the dock via USB or swap the camera's and dock's FW cables to the mini as needed. The other problem is the camera mount; I'm using an aluminum cinema display magnetic mount which doesn't like the "fat" plug of the cheap cable, so I've got the cable jammed in the mount by friction in an inelegant way right now.
Anyway, it's only been a few weeks but I already love our mini! I do miss the G5 in some ways but certainly not the vortex created by all of its fans.

    (1) For many of us, external iSight can be picky about sharing Firewire connections, regardless of how it is connected to either 6 pin or 9 pin ports.
    For more info: http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage6.html
Best thing is to try as many options as are available to see if you can make it work for you.
    (2) Here are some options for ways to connect your FW400 external iSight to a FW800 Mac port:
    • This Firewire 400-800 cable can work: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TP320LL/A
    • Some report that this low-priced alternative cable works:
      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189097"
    • To use your FW400 6pin-6pin cable, you can use a 6pin-9pin adapter like one of these:

  • ISight picture scrambled on Power Mac but works perfectly on iMac

    Hi all,
This is my first post here so bare with me.
My iSight has been working perfectly on my Power Mac G5 over the last few months, but I haven't really used it recently. Last night I decided to fire it up to record something but the picture was scrambled (see the link below). I tried rebooting my computer, and removing the iSight and plugging it in (in the same and different firewire ports), I even went as far as creating a new user account but the problem remains.
I also have an iMac G5 (Rev A) here so I chucked the iSight on that and it works perfectly. I've searched these forums, google, and posted on another Mac forum I frequent but I can't find any information on what I need to do to reinstall the "driver" if that is the correct work on a Mac for the iSight. I am pretty sure the iSight was working fine on the Power Mac under 10.4.3, but both Macs are running 10.4.4 so I'm pretty confused as to why it would work on 1 and not on the other.
Can someone please point me at the file I need to edit, remove, reinstall? If it is something else I'm all ears.
    Thanks heaps!

    Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 (Rev B)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hello, risc. Well done first post! Based on your good info, here are my suggestions.
The fact that you know your (non-iMac) G5 was working with iSight prior to 10.4.4 update makes me suspicious of that update. Give the 10.4.4 Combo Updater a try using the technique suggested in How I Update My Mac OS X. If that does not correct your problem, consider any of the following that apply to your (non-iMac) G5 system.
You can test your iSight on your (non-iMac) G5 by using the suggestions in How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional. Although you KNOW your iSight works, these tests might help you identify the cause of your symptoms.
I understand that your iSight works on your iMac, but perhaps you have other issues that are creating problems on the (non-iMac) G5. In addition to the possibility of Mac OS or Firewire problems or hardware or software conflicts, your (non-iMac) G5 might need Mac OS X maintenance.
You do not specify which app you were using to drive your iSight, but the QuickTime suggestions from Help for iChat AV 3 Problems may help even if you are using apps other than iChat AV.
