400 GB of .xyz files?

Having over 400 gigs of "other" files listed, and not seeing anything remotely that size going through my folders one by one, I ran Disk Inventory X and it listed over 300,000 'document' files totaling 359.5 GB. All the file names look like randomly generated names of letters and numbers, the largest one being 427 MB and they go down from there. Most of the file paths are macintosh hd - library - library - file, but the library file that is supposed to be in the main library file doesn't show in the finder. If, through the Disk Inventory X program, you right click 'reveal in finder' it shows the second library file, with similar file names, but not the one's showing as large files, it only shows 21 files, and all except three showing as zero bytes, the other three are 18kb, 560kb, and 3.3mb. Is there a way to find out what these are, where they came from? I don't want delete files that I don't know about, but I have almost no free space left.

If you reinstalled without erasing the disk, it is very probable you have not got rid of those 80 GB. Also, I do not think that deleting files at hazard is a good option. 80 GB means a lot. Are there more users on the same computer? If yes, it is probable that one of them (or all together) have files, which sum up 80 GB. You MUST get to the point to understanding what those 80 GB represent, do not let things vague and unclear. If you do not need those 80 GB you must get rig of them. If you need them, you must know what they represent, or what they represent for another user(s) of that computer.
Erase-and-installed has vanished from Lion terminology, but it is sometimes useful, if you know how to manage backups and restore data after such an operation.

You can download on your work computer, then place the file on your desktop of your home computer, if you want. Then:
Launch iTunes
Option+Click (Mac OS X) or Shift+Click (Windows) the Update button
Select the IPSW update file you just placed on your desktop
Let iTunes update your hardware to the latest version

Export -mailbox to move emails older than 400 days to pst file

my target is to move all emails older than 450 days to a pst file. i ran this on one user and noticed his emails from today to 450th day from today was moved out.
In simple terms, i want to move all emails in all sub-folders that are older than 01-January-2014. Once this is done and when he logs to owa or outlook he must be only be able to see emails from 01-Jan-2014 to 17-Mar-2015.
how can i achieve this with the above script?

I have setup a Windows 8.1 32bit machine with Outlook 2013 for running the export-mailbox cmdlet to export mails to a PST file

I understand this is a permission issue and i have tried all of the below
1. The user doing the export is a member of local administrator group in both source and target machine.
2. the user doing the export is granted the exchange administrator role on EMC in both the source and target machine.
3. Given full access permission to the username moving the mailbox to PST
4. given receive-as permission to the username moving the mailbox to pst
5. Given genericall access to the DB
6. Create a New User account (EX: ExportAdmin)
Add this account to a Exchange Server Administrator Permission Both Source and Target Exchange Mailbox Server
Add this account to Local Administrators Group Member Both Source and Target Exchange Mailbox Server
Make sure this account DO NOT HAVE ANY Domain Admin/Exterprise Admin permission(Just keep Domain User group permission)
Assign Mailbox Full Access to this account by follow Cmdlet
Get-Mailbox -Server "EX-CCR" | Add-MailboxPermission -User ExportAdmin -AccessRights FullAccess

Crashes when running applications from network share - "Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons"

starting a couple of weeks ago, we get the following error(s) when running applications from a network share. We don't know what causes this, we are not aware of any major changes in our network infrastructure or client/Server configuration. We did upgrade
a lot of machines to Windows 8, but the issue also occurs on older Win7 computers.
We figured out a workaround though: The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share (like
\\share.domain.Company.com) and only cause problems when running from
\\share directly. They have worked fine for years without FQDN though.
Any ideas?

It sounds like a DNS suffix issue. When this issue occurs, please try to ping share on the client, then check if the corresponding IP address is correct. If the IP address is wrong, please adjust your settings of DNS to make sure that the client can resolve

Having problems reducing PDF file size.

Really frustrated...
Mac 10.6.8
Acrobat Pro X 10.1.4
I do not have access to the originating files for the PDF in question. Original file is 268MB.
6.25" x 10.25" document size.
I have used Save As Reduced file size. Increased file to 312MB.
I have Save As Optimized PDF with smallest file size. and got the file down to 247MB.
I printed out to a .ps file and ran it through Distiller with a custom Smaller File size taking it down to 72dpi (.ps file was 2.6GB) and got the file to 216MB.
I did another Optimize of the 216MB file clicking everything [flattening, fonts, images, etc.] and the file came out to 530MB. (Really?!?!)
[This also took 3.5 hours.]
Ok, content stream at 97%. I don't know what that is or how to reduce it.
I'd love to get this below 100MB and below 50MB would be great.
Any help / hints / tricks / tips are greatly apprectiated.

I'm not sure that printing to a new PDF is the answer. When I print to a PDF, my pdf size balloons (often by 3x the original size). I've checked the settings in the print profile (verifying I'm printing to black and white, and lowering the DPI from 1200 to 300) but even at that, the finished product is often 2.5x the original. (Background on the document ... it was paper, I scanned it at 400 dpi. The file size was around 3 MB. I added a footer and then printed to pdf. The finished product was 9 MB.) Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do I need a firewire 800 to 400 to migrate?

I am migrating my data from a 2008 era Macbook to a Macbook Pro. (WHEEEEE!!!!) Do I need to buy an 800-400 converter for copying files, or can I use USB or some other method?

Toshiba File Manager - working with custom file extensions

Hi Developers,
I am trying to create an App that handle a specific file extension. I impelemented the required functionality in the Application.
When someone clicks on the file (say .xyz file) in a Third-Party file manager like AstroFileManager or ES Explorer, Android launches my application with the proper Intent ( ACTION_VIEW). How ever, if I browse to that specific directry using Toshiba File Manager, I get a message saying "There is no associated application for this file type."
I tried several things and no dice. Does anyone know how I can register a handler for a specific extension for TFM?

Since every file only contain 1 headers there is no idicator header and detail.
Please advise how to achieve this scenario in the sender content conversion parameters.

Isquint takes over 300 minutes for one file...

Ok I know its apple discussions but I cant find ANY support for iSquint. Does anybody use it here and know why it takes anything for half an hour to 300 or 400 minutes for one file?
There is no real pattern, it seems to be that if I add more than one file it's almost certain to take ages, but a single movie set to convert could take 30 minutes or 300..
The movies are simple mp4's, dvd's encoded with handbrake. between 500mb and 1.2GB in size. No pattern to file sizes taking a specific length.
I literally just thought though, some of these files have already been converted from avi to mp4 using iSquint, and I haven't checked for a pattern to see if these ones take ages and others do not.
Could this be it or does anyone know what might be causing it?
I'm running a 24" iMac with 2.8Ghz processor and 2GB RAM

In handbrake there is an option to encode it to add an iPod compatibility. However as far as iSquint goes, I gave up on it after i began to run out of space on my 'pod. I would suggest to reinstall the application.

Another idea for collecting IDocs consists in using standard functionality of the IDoc. Instead of sending the IDoc directly to the XI via the IDoc adapter, you can download the IDocs gathered in a file with XML format. This file can now be uploaded by the sender file adapter. As the XML structure is the same as the IDoc adapter produces, there is no change of the behaviour of the message, besides there no single IDoc inside, but multiple IDocs instead.
1)As first step you go to WE21 and create an XML file port in the application system. Apply here a function module for creating the file name. You can use a standard module or a self-written module.
2)Schedule report RSEOUT00 with a variant where you assign the IDoc type, the xml port and the number of IDocs which shall be collected.
3)The report collects all IDocs in one file, until the "Maximal number of IDoc" is reached. When you have for example 2400 IDocs and you set "Maximal number of IDoc" to 1000, you receive 3 files, two with 1000 IDocs and one with 400. Inside the file there is one IDoc tag for each IDoc.
Do not gather too many IDocs into one file. The file size should be considered carefully. Too large files might cause memory leaks, when your hardware is not sufficient.
The files can be uploaded by the sender file adapter. When you collect IDocs of the same type, the Mapping can be done the same way as for IDocs processed by the IDoc adapter.

CSV File download error

Hi,
We have a struts wweb application deployed on weblogic 8.1.3. There is a csv file download functionality in one of the screen. On that screen, first user has to select certain filter parameters and depending on selections made, he gets a set of records on screen. After this, he has the option of downloading the filtered records(appearing on screen) or the entire data set in database in a csv file. Now if user selects the option of downloading entire datasets then it throws following error on screen. error 400 Bad Request.
log file shows connection reset by peer.
else if he choses filtered data it will be fine. moreover the error doesnt appear always. it behaves in random manner.
Could you please advice what can be the problem? Thanking you in advance

Managing files in Spaces

OK, Spaces allows me to allocate different apps to a specific space. fine.
Now, is there a way to allocate specific FILES only to appear (and be used) in a specific space?
Because then, i could allocate all my work related files to my 'Work' Space. or all my Project XYZ files to the 'Project XYZ' space, etc...
Personnaly i don't see much use (yet) of Spaces without the ability to ALSO allocate files to spaces (on top of apps).
I mean, if Spaces is meant to remove clutter, i can't think of a better way to only make some files 'visible' (or available) in a specific Space. Now it's limited to just apps, which is feel is poor effort in terms of clutter removing.
Can someone please tell me if i'm wrong and/or if there's another way to do this?

Please Help - Need to convert 400 gigs of giga samples into my EXS24

Does anybody know what would be the fastest and most efficient way to convert 400 gigs of giga file samples from my PC into my logic pro EXS24 sampler on my mac?
I purchased chicken system's translator professional which does batch conversion, but my pc was not working well with that application. I need to find a new way of converting. I know i can convert giga samples one by one in the exs24 but with 400 gigs of giga samples, it could take days and days.
Any ideas wold be extremely helpful.

CDXtract is gettin' third'ed by me.... However, u r into one heu of a conversion armageddon....
I recently did a huge convertion of my samplecell II lib into AKAI format...
My recommendation is to convert on the fly - meaning - convert what u have to convert when u need it.
And make sure when doing batch convertions that the sample programs u really want to WORK like it did in the GIGA gets special attention... Lots of the conversions done by cdxtract - are indeed converted but attack - decay etc... veries from sampler to sampler although the values are the same

This is a very non-Java related question...
That being said; if you're running any Windows OS's, open the explorer (not Internet Exploder) and open the menu Tools -> Folder Options.
Select the tab File Types. You'll se a list of files and their associated programs. Either modify the one you'd like to change the icons for, or create your own.
