400+ Ipad 2's Proxy Issues = No wifi
We have 400+ ipads here at a school i am working at, we use proxy which in the settings is configured as Auto which points to out to a wpad file. we are now getting students who have updated to IOS6 which is prompting to a website that it cannot find /library/test/success.html after connecting then timing out and loosing connection.
when i view the settings in the wireless connection the auto tab keeps resetting back to default, and we cannot fill out the proxy tab without re configuring the profile from IPCU,
when i view our TMG proxy which is viewing actions to an IP based on an IOS6 device, most of them are trying to access http://akamaitechnologies.com/library/test/success.html
Any one have any ideas? we have profile manager setup however we need an active wireless connection to get to the url
things i have tried.
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network. (does not work)
Settings -> General -> profiles -> delete profiles -------- IPCU re add (works but do not want to do 400+ through IPCU)
any advice would be greatly appreicated.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Issues with wifi since updating to iOS 6 on iPad 3.
I'm having wifi issues since updating to iOS 6 on my iPad 3. I can't access certain sites and get error messages such as 'servor can't connect' and 'request timed out.' Although some sites work fine. I can't access apps which require internet such as facebook, iMessenger, face time and games which need internet access. I can't use iTunes or App store and get the message 'can't connect to iTunes try again.' All these problems started after I updated to iOS 6. I found that the iPad works fine at another location on a different wifi but not at home. The home internet is not the issue as laptops, phones and iPad 1 and 2 all work fine on the internet here. I took my iPad to the apple store with no help and no useful advice so came back again and they offered me a hardware swap which I took. I now have the new iPad but the issue still remains. I have tried everything and I have done everything that has been suggested. Some things I have done are reset network settings, reset all settings, changed wifi dns, changed HTTP proxy to auto, closed all apps and re-opened, fully shut down the iPad, turned off the wifi router and restored the iPad several times. I have searched for help and advice and found that there are many complaints about iOS 6 on the iPad 3 when it comes to wifi. What else is there for me to do to fix this problem? I can't use internet or apps that require internet, basically my iPad is of no use at the moment. Do I have to wait for a new software update which will address this problem?
Are you losing the connection to iTunes on the iPad or the computer? You are saying that iTunes is updated. Of course iTunes is updated when you update the iOS software. That's a no brainer.
If you mean that iTunes is updated on the computer, that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with downloading and updating apps on the iPad itself so changing the date on the iPad, signing in and out of the stores on the iPad .... Doing any of that on the iPad would have nothing to do with iTunes on your computer.
If .... you have not been able to connect to the iTunes or app stores at all on the iPad - try this ...
Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services (swipe to the bottom of the page to find this)>Location Based iAds>Off.
If the downloads are stalled or "waiting" - try these suggestions.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If you can't connect at all - you can also try rebooting your router. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again. -

I bought an Ipad2 around a month back and it was working absolutely fine on my wifi at home, till I joined the university. Here in my university we have proxy settings in place for the internet. I successfully managed to set up the proxy settings on ipad. But the issue is that I can just browse Internet on Safari and cannot do anything else.
For instance, when I open Maps, it works fine but doesn;t give me my location giving the error "Cannot determine location". Earlier, without proxy settings it was working fine.
When I open Mail, it says that "imap.google.com is not responding" ,while this was working fine too without proxy settings at home.
Also, when i acess the App Store, it works fine but when I download any app it gives the error "Cannot connect to Itunes store"
I tried to google this problem alot, but couldnt find a suitable answer. Please help me solvce this problem as Ipad is totally useless if mail, maps and appstore do not work

But with a very quick read in the first part of the article - it seems like it may be a firewall issue .... I am by no means an expert on this and my knowledge on this is very limited but I think this makes a certain amount of sense in your case - at least with regard to the iTunes Store.
This may be an issue that you need to resolve with your IT department at the university
Isolate the issue: (Mac OS X, Windows, iOS)
Make sure the issue is with the iTunes Store only. (You need an Internet connection to access the iTunes Store).Open a secure website to test if you are online as is necessary for the iTunes Store. This also tests if the main ports 80 and 443 are accessible. If the website works but the iTunes Store does not, it is most likely a firewall blocking the iTunes software or servers. If this is the case, follow the steps in the "Blocked by software firewall" section below. -
IPad (especially iPad 2) issue with WiFi connection 1-minute delay after sleep or new connection
This is a tip and not a question.
I had a customer who was complaining that their iPad 2 would take about 1 minute before WiFi would work after coming out of sleep. They are on 5580 controller with 802.11n APs. If they took it home, it didn't have this issue. They also tried with iPad 1 and it didn't seem to have this problem. It was happening every time on iPad 2, wait until it goes to seep, then wait about a minute, then press home button, unlock and try to launch safari, it won't connect and wifi icon in the top bar is missing, 1 minute later wifi icon reappears and safari works. I was also able to reproduce it on iPad 1 and iPad 2 when creating new wifi connection in the settings, wifi icon wouldn't appear for about a minute.
After some 5580 controller upgrades, trying different wireless settings, researching on google, and capturing with AirPcap, I finally figure it out.
Once it comes back out of sleep or once the connection is created, iPad actually associates to the APs just fine and gets an IP address. You are able to ping it during that first minute of "outage" (when wifi icon is missing), but you can't use any network apps like Safari from the iPad during that minute. It turns out that right after getting IP address, iPad sends out DNS query for www.apple.com and then tries some HTTP query on 184.24.93.15 (www.apple.com). I didn't bother investigating what it's trying to do with that HTTP query, but it looks like if that TCP session is not established, you can't use wireless for about a minute. And indeed, my customer's firewall blocks HTTP traffic that's not coming from proxies. Once they opened HTTP traffic to 184.24.93.15 on the firewall, it fixed the issue, the wifi icon now appears as soon as iPad 2 comes out of sleep and Safari works. (They use it for intranet only in case you are wondering)
Hope this helps.I saw on another discussion thread to shut down the hot spot (in my case my HTC Thunderbolt) for 10 seconds and then restart it. It worked and my WiFi downloads seem to be as fast as before. Thanks Philly_Phan.

[iPhone] Programmatically set proxy (for both wifi and gprs/umts)

i'm new to iphone developing. I need to write an application which programmatically setup a proxy for all the available connections (that said, gprs/umts and wifi). This is for a leading phone operator.
Now, the standard Preferences.app (from what i understood) sets the proxy only for wifi connection. And the CFNetworkCopySystemProxySettings returns just that (and, moreover, i couldnt find any function to save proxy settings)
So my questions are :
1) is there any API i can use to read / write proxy settings for all the available connection types (network locations) ?
2) if not, there's a way to write directly to /private/var/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist ? i doubt .....

valerioI did look at the Settings/Cellular to check the applications. This is one of the steps I did with the person from Verizon who was an "iPhone Specialist". And he didn't see anything unusual. And I can honestly tell you they have very minimal number of apps on their phones.
When I went to the Apple Store the first time with this problem, they had me update the phones iOS systems to see if this would correct the problem. They were each running older versions but different versions. One son had one update to do and the other had a couple of updates needed. So, the problem started before they were updated and they weren't even on the same update. And nothing changed after we did the updates.
I didn't reboot the router and modem, because I'm not having any other issues with my phone, my husband's phone, our iPad, xbox, PS3, or laptops. Would the wifi only affect their phones? -
Issues with WiFi connection to Deskjet 3545

I have number of issues with WiFi connection to my new Deskjet 3545 AIO:
1. Printer is not able to get IP address automatically from home WiFi router (all other devices get IP with no problem). Using WPS allow printer to register in network but after switching off, WPS setting is not stored, so I have to do it again. This I was able to solve with manual entering of IP address, netwrok mask, DNS and gateway address.
2. Official HP software installed from HP site was able to find printer for 3dattempt, and it started to work. But after a while, "HP utility" program loose connection to printer, so I can not see any parameters, and I get "can not find printerä message when start to to print. After a some time (minutes to hours), whithout any action from my side, connection to printer seems to be restored, so I can see printer parameters in "HP utility" and printing is started.
3. Official HP software installed from HP site on PC (Windows 7) is not able to find printer on WiFi at all, works only with USB.
All this is disaponinting and unexpected, as my office HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color works perfect.Hi @DmiBro,

Tips for troubleshooting wireless connection issues

Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.

MMy wife had bought an iPad from a friend. My wife already has an iPhone, which is registered to iCloud. She cannot acces iCloud from the new iPad. It says her username and password is not authorised. What do we need to do.

I have an iPad 2 and am iPod touch 5. Yesterday, my iPad all of the sudden did not want to pick up ANY signal at all in my house. It's like it completely give up on wifi, while my iPod and my laptop works just fine in the same spot. (I have an upstairs bedroom, while the router is downstairs in the kitchen).
So I have been trying yesterday to get it to work so what I have done is completely wipe the memory clean after I backed it up on iTunes. After resetting it, I restored it. Still nothing. So I tried to take my iPad down nearer to the wifi router, and OMG it picked up the wifi signal! WHUT?!? It didn't yesterday though...
But now whenever I am up in my bedroom, my iPad would not pick up the wifi at all, or if it did, the wifi would be super duper weak! But two days ago, it was PERFECTLY okay! My iPod and laptop that is sitting right next to the iPad up in my bedroom pick up the signal completely fine.
Can someone help me? What should I do? Is it problems with my iPad or would it be my router that is the problem?Some things to try first:

My iPad mini no longer recognizes any wifi networks (at home, at friends houses, Starbucks, etc.) It's not that I can't connect to networks, the iPad won't even give me the option to connect to any networks anywhere I go. Nothing appears. Under Wi-Fi it's completely blank. So let me just get this out of the way.... I've researched every possible thing I could do and nothing has worked. So don't tell me to make sure my airplane mode isn't on, wifi is turned on or I'm in range, reset my network settings, reset my router, go to Starbucks, update iTunes etc. etc. because I've done all of that and more. We have 3 other iPads in the house who all connect to our home wifi just fine, so it's not that. I literally cannot find any solution to this problem and I find it ridiculous. Please help!
So having done everything you have, it sounds like a potential hardware issue. You didn't mention a "restore" of the device, but I imagine you did that as well. I would plan a trip to the Genius Bar.
By the way the work you have done is admirable. You did a thorough troubleshooting process. -
I have the iPad 2 16GB, bought it in August 2011, I worked perfectly but in mid-August 2012 I took her to the store because the microphone did not work reviewed and changed me, but to my surprise that the new iPad had the problem is disconnected WIFI signal I have to be glued to the router, and I did everything he says is supported by the Apple and all other pages and forums regarding this problem is not solved and always disconnects when connected always disconnects again!! passing will be settled as no longer factory warranty although it has neither the three months I renewed new, please help because the investment has been great and I can not use only as "a mirror" I'm waiting a true solution, thanks ....

CatlosThis does help me because I am pondering on wether to buy an airport extreme to solve my ipad 2 connection woes. I have an extremely old router dLink 524....but I have NEVER had any problems with it at all ever. My xbox connected great to it and netflix ran flawless through my xbox.....now I have an ipad2 and an apple tv and they are BOTH having horrible connection problems. I have read most of the forums on how to fix it by changing the settings on my router but since mine is so old I couldn't do some of the suggested solutions. So here I am debating on whether to spend all this $ on an airport extreme? I am just hoping that if I go and purchase this, my connectivity issues problems will go away like yours did. Just wondering if you have ATV as well and if the AE solved its problems? I have read about AE solving ipad2 wifi problems, I'm just hoping it will solve my ATV as well.

WiFi on iPad 2 randomly goes out, but WiFi on other Apple devices is fine???
I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 2. Randomly, the wifi on my iPad will just disappear. I know it isn't a problem with the wifi shutting on - because it is still working completely fine on my iPhone. If I leave it for a few hours it usually turns back on, but until then, it can't even find the network.
It's very frustrating, as most of what I do on my iPad I need Internet for - especially since I don't have a computer right now.
Restarting it, airplane moding it, etc, etc. doesn't help.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Since I upgraded to OS 6 my ipad will not connect to my WiFi unless I am right next to it. if i walk more than three feet away it looses connection. I have tried the brightness, resetting the network settings, changing the channel on my router...help. I have century link in Phoenix arizona. modem/router is a
ZyXEL - PK5000Z. It seems to work ok on my work wifi.
My iphone and netbook work perfectly with it. I do have an upgrade to the software on my iphone, but I fear that will loose wifi as well.Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

My iPad can't find my specific Wifi network
Hello,
About two days ago while on my iPad, my wifi connection suddenly dropped from my network. I didn't think much of it because my room is far from my router, so I went downstairs and tried to connect. However, my iPad couldn't find my wifi network. It showed all the other networks around my house that it normally does, but not mine, I thought my router may have possibly shut off, but my iPhone, computers, and Xbox all connected fine. I tried restarting the iPad, resetting network settings, turning airplane mode on and off, restarting the iPad while airplane mode was on... nothing. I restarted my router several times, nothing.
I'm not sure what the issue is, as again it is specifically my wifi network that the iPad can't find, even though there's 5 iPhones, one mac, one laptop, 2 Xbox's, and 2 other iPads that can all connect to my wifi without a hitch. Is this some sort of known issue with the iPad? It's an iPad 2, by the way. Or do I have to take it in to a store?

Why wont my iPad connect to the closest/strongest wifi at home? It alway defaults to the one upstairs even when I am right next to our extender in the kitchen?

Ipad Air is extremely slow on wifi. Ipad 1 worked fine.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
