400 mhz G4 PB not recognizing Airport card

HELP!!! i'm a PC girl learning Mac, and bought a used G4 powerbook to try it out. I then purchased a used Airport card to go wireless. However the computer is not recognizing the card. It is installed correctly- barcode up, all the way in, but no go. Is there anyway to test (like will a trip to the Apple store help or will they look at me like i'm from the dark ages?) the computer or the card? I was going to attempt to harvest the card from my snow base station but don't have a star tip for my screwdriver to get into the thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!! THANKS!

Thanks brody. That is the card I have. I was guessing at the OX I have as I bought this machine used and truly have no idea where to find half the stuff much less what it is. since I figured out where to find it, I'm running 10.4.11.
I appreciate everyone's help. I've had the hardest time figuring out just which model I have. i've yet to find a picture just like it. I'm not even sure it's a 12, since dummy me didn't realize they're like tv's and measured diagonally. I think it might actually be a 15 inch if that makes a difference. 2 hinges in the back, all the ports in the back under a cover (I must have looked rather comical until I figured that one out) card slot is on the left side, dvd drive in the front. I was told it was a titanium but honestly it didn't matter to me so I didnt' check to make sure. I just wanted something relatively cheap to see if I really liked a mac before i plunked down a couple of thousand on a new one. It wasn't until I had trouble with the card that I found out all these different ones existed.
also, it looks like there are actually 2 slots to the card reader, although I cannot access it from the battery bay. The slot I can access that the card does actually fit in is from the left outside. the other slot is under it (I can see it with the keyboard off and the card removed) and looks as thought the card would be inserted similar to the one i can use, except the body of the powerbook is in the way. I'm afraid to do much more than I have hardware wise as my PC kicked the bucket so this is my only working computer right now. Let me know what you guys think!!
THANKS!!!

  • Older iMac not recognizing AirPort card

I manually installed an AirPort Extreme card in my G4 iMac. I followed the instructions exactly. However, it's not showing up anywhere in the Network Preferences. It's like I never installed it. I think I did everything right, I even went back and did it again, still to no avail.
Is there something I'm missing here? Remove screws, plug in card, restart computer, right?
Part of what be my problem is I'm using a newer iMac that does have an AirPort card built-in as a base station, (or, at least, that's the plan- is nothing showing up because I don't have a real base station?). Maybe I'm totally wrong about all this, but I don't think that should stop my computer from not recognizing the card.
It is an older card, bought refurbished from the Apple Online Store.

Which G4 iMac did you install the card into? Does it have a clock speed of 1 GHz or faster? Click on the Apple menu and select "About this Mac".
Assuming the clock speed is 1 GHz or faster, run System Profiler and look in the "AirPort:" field. If the card is not recognized, the field will be blank.

  • IBook not recognizing AirPort Card

i have an iBook G4 800mhz, which i determined would need an AirPort Extreme Card to work with my Extreme Base Station. i was able to order this from an online source, and downloaded instructions from here for the installation, which seemed simple enough. i have now installed the card three times, but when i restart the computer, and open the AirPort utility, it says that I do not have the correct hardware. it also seems like when i reinstall my keyboard, that it does not exactly lie flat. any suggestions?

Are you sure you have a working Airport card?
Have you tried a guide from here?

If you have installed the airport card right, the keyboard should be exact the same as before. Otherwhise you did something wrong.

  • EMac on OS 10.2.8 will not recognize Airport Card

OK, I'm not loving Mac so much any more . . .
Here's my situation, please feel free to talk down (way down) to me:
    Have eMac OS 10.2.8
Very recently bought iBook running Tiger
    Bought Airport Express
Bought Airport Card so eMac can go wireless and share connection on Airport Express with iBook.
eMac will not recognize Airport card, and I've followed ALL the steps numerous times in all the support online here and NOTHING.
    What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to upgrade my OS to something higher? If so, WHAT? No salesperson OR tech support person has told me to do this when I tell them I'm on currently running 10.2.8 . . . I am tearing my hair out.
Every time I call, I'm told buy this. Then, it doesn't work, and I'm told, "I dunno who told you that, but that's wrong. You need this." Hafta go through return process. I buy the next thing they tell me, it doesn't work.
I appreciate any guidance you can give me and again, I'm not techno savvy, so talking in the most simplistic terms is awesome!!!!!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to proceed--I ran "software update", and nothing turned up.
I tried to install Airport Express/iTunes software, and it told me I needed 10.3
OK, so I installed Airport Extreme, which came with the Airport Extreme card, and it gave me an option to install for 10.2.3 or 10.3, which I don't have, so I went for 10.2.3
Installed the airport card as instructed on this site in help/support areas.
    Nothing.
I ran "software update" as you suggested, and it found nothing, so I must apologize that I am not certain exactly what to do now . . .

  • PB will not recognize Airport card...

I always take my PowerBook G4 to class with me for the purpose of taking notes during class. I was connected to the internet there, over the wireless network (on campus) with no problem.
When I got back home, my PowerBook wasn't seeing the wireless network (at home, seperate from the wireless network on campus), but I knew it was working because my iMac is connected to it just fine, along with two other computers in my house. I tried restarting a couple of times, and actually typing the name of the network into the Airport drop-down menu. This all did nothing, as did repairing the disk permissions.
I find it very unlikely that the card is not seated correctly, because first of all, when I brought the PowerBook back from campus (when it was working properly) it was tranported in my TUMI bag, which has a dedicated padded holder for PowerBooks, and then immediately took it out and sat it on my desk next to my iMac only to find the PowerBook no longer seeing the wireless signal.
And at this point, I could still turn Airport on and off, and I restarted the computer a couple of times to see if it would pick up the signal, all the while Airport was still recognized by the system (I could still turn it off and on from the drop-down menu, but no wireless networks were present).
So, I popped in my OS X DVD to boot from it to use the Repair Disk feature. It came up with an error that said something to the tune of "incorrect number of threads." It repaired the disk without any probems, or so I thought (and so it thought).
Now, the computer wouldl not function because it runs into a kernal panic, forcing me to hard shut-down the computer. It happened everytime, sometimes during startup, sometimes not until I got into OS X, but always soon after the OS starts.
I then booted the computer as a "Safe boot" and this seemed to stop the kernal panics, and I shut down the computer and started it again with no panics. There was no longer any recognition of the Airport card, either. Not even through the Airport Setup Assistant. It keeps telling me there is no card installed.
I have tried two seperate cards, as I thought maybe the one went bad, but nothing came of this. I tried zapping the PRAM, booting into Open Firmware to reset to defaults, all leading to nothing. I even went so far as to completely erase the drive and do a clean install of OS X, which now drops my system down to 10.4. NOTHING.
Please, anyone willing to help that would be great, even if you would like to contact me through iChat and we can discuss this over iSight to get to the root of the problem. Screen name is CoreyAtMiamiU.
Sorry about the long post and thanks for taking the time to read it.

You should probably consider reinstalling your operating system. Usually, if there is a problem with the card it won't be recognized at all--no turn on or off options offered.
You should back up any of your important critical data.
Then do a reinstall using the Archive & Install option.
Most likely that will get you back to a clean starting point (though you can be more thorough and do an erase an install).
Note: Airport does not work in safe boot... so it not appearing there should not affect your evaluation of your problem:

  • Iphone not recognizing SIM card

Since I bought my Iphone about 5 months ago, a few times it would say that there is no SIM card inserted, when in fact there had been one. I would remove and reinsert the card or do a hard shut down and restart and the problem would go away. Yesterday, as I was scanning my applications a error message came on saying it did not recognize a network. Then I noticed the functions on would not work. Basically it froze. So I restarted it. Once the apple logo went off there was an icon of a USB to be connected to iTunes, with no other functions working. I then patched it to my laptop and the error message on the laptop said that there was no SIM card in the Iphone. thinking its a SIM card problem I inserted someone elses SIM in my iphone. Same problem. I inserted my SIM in another iphone. No problem. It was not a SIM card issue. Without the iphone recognizing the SIM card the phone could not even be reset.
I took the phone to the Service provider in Malaysia MAXIS. They said the iphone is defective and had to be taken in for repair. The problem is they will most probably replace the phone, However there policy with Apple they say is that I have to WAIT 6-8 WEEKS for a new set. How ridiculous is that?
The worry I have now is that all my apps that I bought, what will happen to them? All the online games that I have been leveling up for months, what happens there? I could never sync my phone with my laptop when it came to the apps. It just would not sync!
It is disappointing to think that Apple does not have a solution to customer software and program issues.

You're right - it is ridiculous however thats not a decision made by Apple, but by Maxis. If Apple were asked to rpovide immediate replacements, they would do so and Maxis would have to pay the price. Under warranty, in other countries we can go into an Apple store and get an immediate replacement.

  • BB Pearl not Recognizing Media Card

I have a 2GB Kingston MicroSD card installed in my BB.  It has been working fine for the past month or so (since I got the phone) and has 4 or 5 pictures and another 5 of 6 ringtones stored on it.  Earlier this week, I had been hooking the phone up to the computer using the USB cable and it would prompt me if I wanted to access the media.  I would say no and go on from there.  Then Wednesday, all of a sudden the BB started no longer recognizing the card.  Today, I went into the settings and they are:
    Media Card Support - On
    Encryption Mode - None
Mass Storage Mode Support - On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - Prompt
A media card is not presently inserted in the device.
I take the media card out and plug it into the computer and it is still showing all the files on there.  When I plug the phone into the computer, it is not being recognized by the computer.
    Any suggestions?

  • Not recognising Airport card

    hello...
i've recently bought an airport extreme card for an older g4 powerbook. I've installed all of the appropriate of updates, but the computer refused to recognise the fact that it has a card now - although when i reboot it makes an electronic tone that seems to indicate it does...
    any ideas?
    Thank you!

Hm... i bought it around that time, but i'm not sure exactly - is there a simple wat to tell if it is a titanium one??
How old a "G4 Powerbook" is this?
All G4 Powerbook's released prior to January 2003 (ie
the so-called "Titanium" Powerbook G4s) require an
original Airport card. You cannot install an Airport
Extreme card into one of these older Powerbook G4
    models.

  • IPhone 5 not recognizing SIM card, I can't activate the phone.

    Hi, everybody.
A couple of days ago, I bought an iPhone 5 from a friend. I have an iPhone 4 and, as you know, they both have different SIM card sizes (4 uses micro size and 5 uses nano size). When I got the iPhone 5, I restored it to factory settings, but couldn't activate it 'cause I didn't have the nano SIM card (or SIM nano card, anyhow it goes), so I just turned it off. Next morning, I went to my mobile carrier to buy a nano SIM card (they took like 28 hours long to activate it…anyway) but the iPhone is not recognizing it, so I cannot activate it.
I've gotten stuck in the white "Hello" screen for like 3 days already and I'm running desperate 'cause I wanna use my stupid iPhone 5…
    Please, guys, any help?
EDIT: It cannot be restored via iTunes 'cause I get a screen saying that there's no SIM card in the iPhone I'm attempting to activate. The friend who sold me the phone showed me a way to restore it on the phone itself, without having to send the command through iTunes 'cause he said that from iPhone 4S onwards all phones have to be restored with a SIM card inserted. Thing is, I tried this two or three times on the iPhone 5 but the device still doesn't recognize the stupid SIM…

EDIT 2: It cannot be restored via iTunes 'cause I get a screen message saying that there's no SIM card in the iPhone I'm attempting to activate. The friend who sold me the phone showed me a method for restoring it on the phone itself, without having to send the command through iTunes (connect the phone to computer, turn it off, hold both Home and Power buttons until the Apple logo disappears, release the Power button without releasing Home button, iTunes shows a message about an iPhone in restoring mode, restore, etc.). Thing is, I tried this two or three times on the iPhone 5 but the device still doesn't recognize the stupid SIM…
    Please, help

  • Powerbook G4 - Will Not Recognize Airport Card (Wireless)

    Hi all,
I've had my Powerbook for about 3 years now. I upgraded to 10.4 sometime last year.
Last week, my Powerbook stopped recognizing my airport card. I see a small dent in the back corner of the laptop's base so I am thinking my toddler got a hold of it.
Anyway, everything else appears to work fine. What can I do t get it to recognize the airport? Does the card need to be replaced or could something have come loose? If so, how can I access the card?
    All help is appreciated!

could be loose AirPort card connection.

  • Just got new phone, not recognizing SM card?

Hi I just bought the droid incredible 2 by HTC and received it yesterday.  I tried to take a picture and it told me there was no SM CARD.  But there is one, its just not being recognized??  any suggestions would be great

I can understand how frustrating this could be.  It is a good measure to take out the card and reinsert it.  Since that didn’t work then (leave the card in the phone) go to settings> sd & phone storage>  pressmountsdcard.  This should resolve your issue.  If that doesn’t work I would try a different sd card. I hope this helps.  Thanks.
