4000 x 850 image

Are there any problems related to using wide images? (except
for scrolling) The image I’m currently using is 4000 x 850
pixels.
The image is a family tree, which I have saved as a gif with
a file size of 92k. It’s works fine on my computer although
in Dreamweaver it replaced it with a grey image.
Doe’s anyone know of any limitations or problems with
large images except for the file size of course.

Since it's only 92KB, it should be OK, apart from the huge
amount of
scrolling necessary. If it's in a page with other material, I
think it
will display at full size, but some browsers auto-resize
large images to
make them fit the screen. When that happens, clicking the
image restores
it to full size. You'll need to do some testing and add a
note to that
effect in the page.
Better still, try to find a way of displaying the family tree
in a
different way. Scrolling back and forth will make it very
hard for
people to absorb the information that it contains.

I imported over 4000 hi-res images into imovie. Preview screen is black.

I just imported 4774 images with dimensions of 3264 × 1832 (pretty huge, I know). After the 3.5 hours it took to import, the preview screen was dark, and only about 1/3 of the image thumbnails worked (the first third). I moved on anyway, and made all of the images .1 seconds long (it's for a time lapse if you hadn't guessed). So I exported the movie, and the final .mov file was still black. Did I break iMovie? My computer has 8gb of ram and is running on a SSD, so I don't think my computer is the problem.
Any suggestions?

Did you by any chance upgrade your Mac OS from version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to 10.7 (Lion) during the time you were working in iMovie on all these projects?
If not, start by deleting the iMovie Preferences file.
Go to the Desktop
Hold down the Option key and choose the Go Menu > Library
Go to Preferences > com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
Move the .plist file to the trash and restart iMovie
See if the Project files react any differently. Failing that try doing a Repair Disk Permissions:
Restart the Mac, hold down the Option key continuously until 2 hard drive icons appear
Choose the Recovery Volume as your startup disk and let it run until you see the Desktop
Choose Disk Utility from the Recovery Menu
Run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility
Reboot the Mac and when you see the Desktop appear launch iMovie
See if the Project files are the same or different. Next step after this is to one at a time take the Project folders out of users/me/movies/imovie projects. Move one to the desktop and start iMovie. Try skimming the projects that acted up recently. Moving one project at a time might help isolate which project may be causing problems. You can also place project folders back in their original location after doing this testing and iMovie will recognize them on the next relaunch. It won't hurt anything.

PC-cam 850 Image very dark in Yahoo messenger.

I have tried adjustinf brightness in preference but it only becomes completely dark. Only auto works and it is not bright enough.

How to automate multiple output file names from a single input image?

I have about 100 eps cmyk 4000 pixel wide images to process daily. The website needs several jpeg editions of the same image: 1000 pixel wide, 850 pixel wide, and 80 pixel wide.
Question:
Can I load the single source and save three differently named outputs through a single droplet?
I was hoping for an Automation -> Batch answer, but I am a programmer. I haven't touched ExtendScript nor scripted anything in CS, but I can certainly read about it. Any examples I can download or references to methods that would do a "Save As" very similar to the Jpeg Save For Web? Any links would be helpful.

How do i compress an image in PS elements 12

I have a 6000 x 4000 pixel jpg image. The file size is way too large, around 10 megabytes. I cant figure out how to convert this to a 3000 x 2000 pixel image using PS elements 12. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Make sure your in the Expert mode in the pse 12 editor.
Go to Image>Resize>Image Size.
Check Constrain Proportions and Resample Image
Under Pixel Dimensions type in 3000 for the width
(the other number will be entered because you have constrain proportions checked)

Feather radius for selection depending on the image size

Greetings everyone,
I have a question about setting the feather radius for a selection depending on the image size. I'd like make the edge in the resultant layer mask have roughly the 'same' feather appearance for varying image sizes.
For files below 2000 pixels I would set a feather radius of 0.2
For files above 2000 pixels I would set a feather radius of 0.3
However, I started working with 4000-10000 pixel images and I was wondering about the radius for those images.
Is there a more 'scientific' method I could follow? Any thoughts welcome

You would need to use Photoshop scripting to do that. Also using number of Pixels might not be what you want to use. While number pixel is an absolute number pixels you have have no size information till there is a DPI resolution involved. At 300 DPI 300 pixels are 1" in size at 72 DPI 300 pixels are 4.16 inches in size.

Hi. Im making an rpg, and while trying to add the image of the person ontop, i noticed that, unlike on websites, the background of black isnt transparent. Could someone please help. Is there a color that java reconizes as see-through for a .gif?

Would a png reduce the time it takes to repaint?
Not per se, no. Images are decoded when loaded so the source is pretty much irrelevant.
My brother said being able to look at the hex value and not the .grabPixels() array would reduce the time it take to repaint. Is this true?
I'm not sure I follow. What are you doing? You don't need to grab pixels to repaint, are you manipulating the image directly in between paint cycles? If so then you can expect operations to be quite slow.
4000 x 3500 image cut in 2. Would that reduce repaint time?
Possibly. Are you using transforms to render with? If not then you can't hope to render all that on a screen so there'd probably be no harm in tiling it.
Right now what is happening is u can see each picture repaint itself.
I suspect what you have, since you're using GIFs (which are palletised) is an image which has a data transfer type different to that used by the graphics device.
Via GraphicsEnvironment and GraphicsDevice you can get GraphicsConfiguration and query its ColorModel and then its transfer type. In most cases this will be an integer type but it's best to check.
Then, from the BufferedImage you've created, get its ColorModel and the transfer type. You'll probably find with a GIF-sourced image that it's a byte type.
If the two transfer types are different then pasting the image is a costly operation: what you need to do is use the GraphicsContext to create a compatible image, then render your old image into it, and dispose of the old one.
That's a fairly undesirable step to have to go through - it'll obviosusly take a bit of processor time for an image the size of yours and there's the memory overhead of having it in memory twice as well (even though the initial image will be only a quarter the size of the compatible one, if it uses bytes instead of ints). So one thing you can do is store your image as a true-color PNG instead of a GIF - there's nothing magic about this, but what it does mean is that on decoding it you will end up with a color model and transfer type which is integer-based and will render quickly for anyone using a true-color display (which is most people).
You're doing this in an applet and an integer-based image of that size is going to cause you massive problems with heap space. You've got 96Mb to play with and that image will eat 56Mb of it. If you're having to copy a byte image to it then that's going to require an extra 14Mb overhead.
I would strongly question the wisdom of using a 4000x3500 image in an applet. What are you using it for? Can you find an alternative means of rendering the image or parts of it? - eg if a lot of it is plain-colour then can you break it into parts which only cover the non-plain sections? if there are repetitions in the image can you re-use tiles?
Oh hang on, it'd help if I checked that applet link...
WHOA! Yeah - there's no need at all for a huge image like that! You only have two background tiles, a green one and a blue one - use a data structure to lay out the tiles, eg if you wanted four green squares surrounded by a ring of blue squares you might do it like this,

    { 0, 1, 1, 0 },
    { 0, 0, 0, 0 }
}...though you'd be better off sticking the values in a text file and parsing it to create the map.

Lightroom problems with large folders of Raw images

I have a problem processing folders with a large number of Raw images in Lightroom and the same folder is easily processed in Adobe Bridge (without much loading time). The folder locked up Lightroom more than once. The folder has Nikon D2X and D2H .NIF files and it has 850 images. I bought Lightroom to simplify the editing and sorting and sorting process but I often work out of large folders like this. Is Bridge a better answer for what I am looking for or am I doing something wrong (like not waiting long enough).

It can take some ime for LR to import a large folder of RAWs. But once in it should be faster.
How are you importing. Are they already on your HD, or coming from the camera with copy, or a cardreader?

Need advice on organizing project

I've been playing with Aperture for about a week now and would like to solicit advice regarding a project I'm working on.
I'm working on a website focusing on living things and want to create a library of images for use on the site. Right now I'm looking for collections of images in the public domain, primarily images from old books and scientific journals and from government agencies.
So here's what my project looks like so far...
Library = Life
PROJECTS AND ALBUMS
> Library Albums
> Collections
> Smart Albums
I simply created two new categories under PROJECTS AND ALBUMS. So if I create a folder on my computer and fill it with images of hummingbirds from a particular book, I would then import that entire folder into Collections.
The Smart Albums section consists of smart albums that are designed to preview particular kinds of images. For example, a smart album titled Hummingbirds would preview every image that includes "hummingbird" among its keywords, regardless of what collection it's in.

1. So, first question - is it better to import a collection (a folder filled with images) into a folder or project? My hunch is folders would be better, partly because some will be nested inside each other. For example, if I find a dozen old books with pictures of primates, then I might create the folders Mammals > Primates, then put twelve differerent folders (or projects) inside Primates.
2. If folders are a better choice, how can I either change an existing project into a folder or move the images from that project into a folder, then delete the project?
3. How can I import images into a folder? When I click on a folder, then import a folder on my computer, I wind up with a new project.
4. If I make a mistake an import images into a project or folder twice, is there an easy way to delete the duplicates? (I have abourt 850 images in the folder Medical Plants, when there should be 425.)
5. I don't remember exactly how I imported my Scientific Illustrations collection, but I like the way it created subfolders matching the subfolders in the folder I imported. However, each subfolder includes a project, which makes things too complicated. You can see an example of what I'm talking about at the very bottom of the image I published online.
I'd like "Scientific Illustrations" to be a single project (or folder). One reason is that when I click "Projects" near the top of the Library pane, it displays hundreds of projects (many representing subfolders), when I'd prefer to just see a project for each collection (Hummingbirds, Sharks, Sharks2, etc.).
In addition, some subfolders in the Scientific Illustrations collection in turn included subfolders that were imported as projects named "500_data." I'd like to change all those to folders.
Perhaps a better question is "How would you do this?"

How can I hide or arrange alphabetically the folders that show up in 'local photos'?

I have roughly 4000 photos and images in 150+ folders on my android tablet. Most of it is necessary presentation material that will never be opened in photoshop touch. However, when I get to the point in a presentation that I need to design something quickly, I'm faced with all 150+ folders showing up in 'local photos' in no discernable order. I only need 4 folders and about 12 sub folders that I will return to 3-4 times while creating the design. It is really time consuming to find the correct folder as they seem to be listed randomly. How do I isolate only the folders I need to see? Failing that, is there a way to get the folder/sub folder hierarchy to work? Failing that, can they be arranged alphabetically? Failing that, how are the folders arranged?

Do you know how the folders are listed? Perhaps I can just change the folder creation date to some time in the future to get them to populate to the top of the list. I've designed the content so that 130+ of our dealers with android tablets can use the program out in the field to quickly design signs with it --if I can only get over this hurdle.

Keynote ver. 3: setting individual slide sizes?

Hi, this is the first question I've ever posted in an online discussion group (I can't afford to pull out any more hair).
Brief background: I'm using Keynote to assemble a presentation for an annual architectural design awards program; this is my first time in six years not using PowerPoint, one of many reasons being that I could never manually adjust slide orientation but rather had to go with 100% portrait or landscape. The images that firms submit are always a mixed bag of horizontal and vertical images and it's a pain having to resize half (read: 500) of them -- plus I always get a few complaints that I've compromised the clarity of their professionally-photographed building details. bah!
Is there a trick to accomplishing this in Keynote? I'm using the "slide size" feature in the document inspector, but it's only letting me make across-the-board changes, not slide by slide. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm not sure I really understand your question. Keynote can't set sizes for individual slides, but this shouldn't be a problem. All projectors have a "native" orientation of landscape, and a native resolution (800 X 600, 1024 X768, etc.). This is just like your computer monitor. Changing the orientation of the slides in Keynote will not change the resolution or orientation of the projector itself (just as it wouldn't change your monitor's orientation or resolution), and orienting the slides as portrait will only mean that you are cutting off the sides of the display -- it would be exactly equivalent to simply putting the same image onto a black landscape slide of the same height as the "portrait" slide.
As for the "clarity" of the images, the resolution you have to work with is the resolution of the projector -- if you project a 4000 pixel tall image on a projector with a native height of 768 pixels, you will necessarily lose some resolution, and there is very little that can be done.
Can you explain a bit more what you need to do?

After I downloaded 10.6.7 I had a problem with my graphic card, new mac OS version erased something but I solved it when I found on Nvidia forum solution and downloaded new Nvidia 4000 drivers. Resize 4000 images and make sure they have 3 sizes of canvas

Hi,
I require 4000 images in 3 different sizes.
All of the images are different sizes but they need to be resized to be a specific size.
I know that you can set a maximum width and height, but what i want is when they are resized, to be put onto a canvas that is my specific dimension.
Anyone know how i can do this?

You can certainly use ACDSee Pro to do this job. 4000 images is a lot to process for any computer so it will take some time but ACDSee is up to the task. You can constrain proportions or set them to be specific pixel dimensions.
I do not know how to use the batch functions in Fireworks since I seldom use that program. You can check to see if Adobe Bridge can do it but it might want to open Photoshop to do the batch processing which can take some time to do.

How do I replace an image that appears on selected pages on 4000 page doc?

OK, I have a 4000 page document and I want to replace a poor qualty logo with a nice vector version, but the logo only appears on two continuous pages ever other three pages. ie the logo appears on P2-P3, P5-7, P9-11,P13-15 and so on. Cannot find an action or global change that can do that, apart from typing in the whole range in "range" option, which is not an option really.

On a copy of the file, can you replace it with the vector graphic on one page? I am a bit concerned that you can replace it with the vector form since in PDFs a bitmap is considered a graphic and a vector graphic is treated some other way. So a test is appropriate first. If you can successfully do it, then it would be a matter of creating a script to replace the graphic in the entire file.
