42 '' Panasonic pro Plasma display or FSI 17'' monitor ??

i want to buy a second monitor for my grading suite. I already have a Sony CRT ( SD-HD ) that's still in great condition ( bought it new 3 years ago ) and i want to add a nice LCD/Plasma.
Is the Panasonic 42'' professional series plasma good enough for color grading ?? or should i stick to the FSI 17'' even though i already have a nice CRT? Thanks

Apples and Oranges.
I am aware that the FSI-17 is very well regarded and from what I've seen it is very attractive, and its reputation is for reasonable accuracy, not to mention good reports for after-sales support. All very, very important. My quibble is that its way too small. Even before HD, a 19" 4x3 CRT was considered to be a minimum screen size for serious work.
Bigger is better up to a point.
The problem with most plasmas (don't bother with LCD unless it is professionally calibrated and maintained), is that there really aren't any grade-quality models, and the higher-end still suffer from a certain amount of drift, dynamic contrast shifts and burn-in (not as pronounced as in the past) although a very beautiful palette. You will need to support a Plasma with a LUT- or other- interface which will also need to be continuously checked, but will nevertheless wobble throughout a longer session, no matter how iron-clad your calibration is.
Its a tough situation.

  • Macbook Pro not displaying 1080p on my monitor anymore after 10.8.4.

    Hey,
My Macbook Pro 8,2 15" early 2011 unibody does not display on my BENQ g2420hd screen anymore.  I am using a thunderbolt to HDMI cable and it used to work fine.  I have tried my macbook pro with the same lead through a different screen and that displays in 1080p and my friends laptop through my screen and that works.  When I set the screen to any other resolution it works fine, including 1080i, but on 1080p the screen acts as if It reconises it but just remains black.
I have tried resetting PRAM and SMC,  I can't roll back to 10.8.3 as I am not using Time Machine (i know... i should..).  I can't think of anything else I can try or do I have to wait for 10.9 or 10.8.5 for them to fix it.  I know there are other post on this update issuse but mine problem seems to be slightly different.
    Hope some one can help,
    Adam

one more point to add...i installed windows using bootcamp, and through windows the 2560X1440 resolution works. so its not a hardware problem either

Assuming your MBP is a recent model, i.e. bought in the last couple of years, and that your TV has HDMI inputs (if you've bought it new then that's a safe assumption) then you need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable.  The Apple Store sell one:

  • Panasonic 50" Plasma TH-50PH9UK - can mac mini display be set to 1366X768

My mac mini is connected to a Panasonic high definition plasma display (TH-50PH9UK) using a DVI to VGA adapter and a VGA connector. The native resolution for the display is 1366 X 768 but this is not an option under the display settings in system preferences? How can I match the native resolution?

No guarantees, but try this (the following precedure must be performed with the Panasonic attached to the mini):
Download and install SwitchRes X Control Panel (note: not the full version called Universal Installer). Open SRX and with the "Resolutions" icon highlighted in the main window, click on the "Custom" button on the button bar. Click on the "+" in the lower left corner of the window to add a new resolution. A second window will open filled out with timing values of the current timing in use. Make sure the "Use simplified settings:" check box does not have a check mark in it. Fill in the boxes with the following data:
    Pixel clock: 86.18
    Horizontal Active: 1366
    Horizontal Front porch: 40
    Horizontal Sync width: 96
    Horizontal Back porch: 280
    Vertical Active: 768
    Vertical Front porch: 3
    Vertical Sync width: 14
    Vertical Back Porch: 21
Put check marks in "Positive sync." for both Horizontal and Vertical sync.
You should observe that the Horizontal Scan rate is around 48.36 kHz and the Vertical Scan rate should be around 60 Hz. Click on the OK button and and then the Apply button. Quit SRX and follow the directions for saving and restarting.
When the mini is restarted, open Displays preferences and the newly created timing should now show up. Select it and hopefully you will get a native resolution output. Good luck.

  • Problem Mac mini G4 with Panasonic 52" Plasma using s-video (composite)

I am upgrading my mac mini but until then I'd like to watch some movies on my new Panasonic 50" Plasma (TH50PZ80U). The first I connected them together using a DVI-to S-Video adapter it worked but with low resolution (can't remember). The resolution was fine for movies but not reading. When I tried to increase the resolution the screen became all grey and black (like when there's no the TV channel in the old days). I tried all of the following but nothing has worked:
    1) Played with the mouse for an hour to try to change the resolution but kept starting new programs instead
    2) Connected to my apple display cinema, change resolution to the minimum, and then reconnected it and nothing
    3) Asked a friend to bring his laptop to do screen sharing but my OS 10.4.11 doesn't support this functionality
    4) Tried starting in safe mode and it won't start in safe mode. It gets stock on the gray apple screen at launch
    5) Tried getting an HDMI cable but this mac mini is not strong enough for the plasma screen. It kept going black after a few minutes
    6) Tried using keyword shortcuts with SwitchResX but I couldn't seem to find the right sequence.
Remember that I tried to the above blind since the screen was all blurry.
    Can someone help. Thanks

+I tried with an HDMI cble, through a DVI adapter, but it seems that my 1st generation mac mini is not powerful enough for that. It comes out at first but as soon as I start any application, it looses signal+
I'll ask again; what happens if you try starting in Safe mode connected by HDMI? I understand that with a normal start and running 1080p, the mini is not necessarily stable. But if you start safe, or start normally, and quickly change the resolution to something lower than 1080p, the mini should be "powerful enough" to run the Panasonic at 720p for example. That should not present a problem.
If you really just want to get back to using the S-Video interface at 640 x 480, you should be able to throw out the display preference files to get back to a clean start. That usually works. Try the following; in /Library/Preferences find the file com.apple.windowserver.plist and throw it in the trash or drag it to the desktop. Find also in /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost the file com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxxx is a string of letters and numbers and yourusername is the name on the main user account and throw that in the trash, too (or drag it to the Desktop). Then restart and see if function returns to S-Video when connected to the Panasonic.

  • Panasonic 42" plasma HDMI

Has anyone connected a mini to a plasma with HDMI input?
Does it work, anyone tried a panasonic?
Why do manufacturers like panasonic and sony state that HDMI input is not intended for PC input? Does not intended mean not possible?
    Anyone know?
    Thanks

Dan - the panasonic (in my case testing the one at work) th42px25u will work with the mac mini using the a standard dvi to hdmi cable. If you are experiencing overscan, you can go into the panasonic service menu and adjust the settiings there - it works pretty well to position everything on the screen correctly. The other problem ....being that the VGA port on the front of the plasma displays clearer (test) than using the hdmi port. For this I have not yet found a totally acceptable solution. Using the VGA port displays a crystal clear image (which I believe is (720p). Yet using the hdmi port is not horrible, but is certainly not as clear as the vga port. I've tried researching the solution "to death" and i cannot seem to find anyone who knows enough about video in general or about the panasonic model specicially to be of any great assistance. Display Config X and Switchres yield only minor positive gains. I know this is possible because other people have reported success in connecting via hdmi - so I really don't know what I could be doing wrong. Incidentally, its the same problem when connect a Windows PC to the unit....and the unit is not defective in any way. Can anyone shed any light on this??

  • Slideshow for Plasma Display

I'm throwing some pictures together to be shown on a plasma display and was wondering what the best crop and display settings would be to look best on it.
The display is a 480p 16X9 Panasonic. The technical page shows that its resolution is 852X480.
Does this mean that if I crop the shots to 16X9 and set the laptop external display to 852x480, it will look the best?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to use MovieClipLoader and when the
    onLoadComplete or
onLoadInit events occur, you can change the dimensions of the
    target_mc
argument. You can use _xscale and _yscale for example and any
    MovieClip
    property or method.

  • How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display?

How can I open Adobe Bridge CS6 in high resolution on my MacBook Pro Retina display? When I click Get Info, the "Open in Low Resolution" box is marked and locked. How can I unmark this box? I currently run 10.9.1. I can open Adobe Photoshop CS6 in high resolution without any problem. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There is no such thing. In CS6 only PS itself is Retina compatible. You would have to use CC for full Retina support.

Unfortunately, that is not possible. The computer only can "output" your display image, it cannot "input" an image from an external computer and display it on your MacBook's retina display.

  • Will an Infra-Red Adapter work with a macbook pro retina display so I can use the apple TV remote for presentations?

I have always used the apple TV remote for my presentations.  I bought a retina display last year for the betterment of my presentations and now I have to stand near my computer and hit a button to change my slides where as before I used my remote.  Will a infra-red adapter work with the apple TV remote in the macbook pro retina display?  Love my computer, but very disappointed not to have a remote for presentations that does not need the internet.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, I used that and it works great if you have wireless connection.  Im looking for  a remote that worked like the apple TV remote.  My questions is, "Is there a USB infra-red remote that works with mac.  I have found this one: Keyspan EZ1 easy presenter.  It claims with works with PC and Mac and the reviews are good.  Does anyone know anything about it or if it works with retina display macs?

  • I am stumped I do not understand why my roommates macbook pro when duel screened will display perfectly on my monitor while mine refuses to, but mine will display perfectly when using another monitor that is not mine. Please help me out.

One day when using my duel display the second monitor decided it wouldn't display at full resolution in the middle of doing something i was confused. I use a mini display to hdmi then hdmi to the second monitor. I thought maybe the converter or cable died. I bought another another mini display to hdmi and tried another hdmi cord and the same issue. My roommate has macbook pro as well so i decided to see if it was the monitor, when i pluged the mini display converter into his and used the external monitor it displayed perfectly not below resolution. Doing this I knew it was not the monitor or the mini display to hdmi or the hdmi cable. I took it into the genuis bar assuming now that it was my grapics card or logic board. When the genuis went to duel screen it on a cinema display it displayed perfectly. So went home tried to duel screen it again and still not displaying at full resolution. That is where I am stuck, in summary:
My screen used to display perfect resolution on a second monitor and suddenly did not.
Tested two mini display to hdmi and hdmi cords both were fine.
Tested to see if monitor was issue but displayed perfectly when i used roommates laptop.
Went to genius bar and displayed perfectly on second monitor so it can display perfect resolution on apples monitors but will not do so anymore on my monitor, even though roommates macbook pro will display perfect resolution on my monitor.
    I am beyond confused.

Apparently you have tried everything except - take the monitor in question to the Apple Store along with your computer.  If it works there, the mystery continues.
