42" Regza with Red Line

Looking for help.  I'm so disappointed by the service I just received when I called for technical help.  I've owned a 42" Regza for a little more than a year.  A pink/red vertical line appeared a couple of inches from the right side.  I searched online and found this issue to be common.  Prevalent might be overstating it, but common certainly isn't.  I called the toll free Toshiba number and the rep I spoke with denied that it was an issue, and offered to troubleshoot over the phone for a fee.   I declined.
I can't believe Consumer Reports ranked this product and Toshiba's service so highly.  My next stop is to contact CR so they can perform third party research and hopefully "correct" their ranking next year.  I'll also include it when I receive their annual product information questionnaire.
Has anyone received better service?  Any ideas (other than to buy a new TV that does not have Toshiba's name on it)?

You could try leaving it unplugged overnight, but it likely needs servicing.
Phone support is free for the first 90-days.

There is no other response at all no matter what I do, including holding both buttons down for extended period.  My other kid got one and it works perfectly.....I have interchanged usb cables ports etc. but still no response....I would really appreciate any help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem with the iPod. This is because as you said the same cable works with another iPod.

I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry.

Though I have doubts for success, you might try a SMC reset.  It can do no harm.  Otherwise, barring suggestions from others, the Apple Store or qualified repair facility is the last option.

    Agree with Richard:
-Your device needs both the CR and LF. To accomplish this:
option 1: Concatenate the "end of line" string constant (this is a combination of CR and LF, located in the string pallete) to all your outgoing commands. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is false.
option 2: Concatenate only a CR to your command's strings. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is TRUE AND that the termination character is set to 10 (meaning LF) which I think is the default.
Details can be seen in this link:

"Adding Termination Characters to VISA Serial Writes in LabVIEW"
Interesting would be to configure the serial port to accept not one but two termination characters. The above links refers to the document "Developer Zone Tutorial: Termination Characters in NI-VISA.", where this is supposed to be possible. The document however is 404'ed.
If someone find a working link please post it.

My Imac is showing gray screen with red line when booting and restart again, I can load it in windows 7 safe mode with red lines across the display, pls help

The graphic card is damaged. You can't do anything more than taking your computer to an Apple Store or reseller and getting your graphic card replaced.
Sometimes, when the graphic card is damaged, operating systems can't start. That's caused because the drivers that make the graphic card work detect an error, telling the operating system that the graphic card is unusable, so the operating system can't start and it restarts. However, you can start in safe mode because operating systems use a basic driver in this startup mode

  • Solo Button in Channel Strip with Red Line

Solo Button in Channel Strip with Red Line through it and it won't solo?
How'd it happen and how do you get rid of it?
    Thanks!

    Try This----From the Manual
Logic Pro, Express: Solo Safe mode may not remain disabled for a particular channel strip
    Symptoms
In certain projects, "Solo Safe" mode for a channel strip may enable each time you load the project, even after you disable it and save the project.
    Resolution
When a channel strip in Logic is "Solo Safe", it remains audible, even when other channel strips are soloed. Solo Safe is indicated by a diagonal red line through the solo button on a channel strip.
You can manually toggle the solo safe status of a channel strip by Control-clicking its solo button. There are times when you may find that a particular audio channel strip in a project reverts to solo safe mode when you load the project, even after you manually disable solo safe. Here is why that may happen and steps you can take to prevent it from occurring.
A Logic project contains a special audio channel strip used for pre-listening to audio in the Sample Edit window, Audio Bin, and Loop Browser. When you create a Logic project from one of the factory templates, this channel strip is assigned to "Audio 256". This channel strip stays in solo safe mode so that you can always preview audio. The image below shows the channel strip for a new, empty project.
If there is no audio channel strip in a project assigned to "Audio 256", Logic will use the highest-numbered available audio channel for pre-listening. When the project is loaded, that channel strip will be put into solo safe mode. You may find this happens in older projects that you open in Logic 8, or in cases where you have deleted the "Audio 256" channel strip in a Logic 8 project. To prevent this from affecting channel strips you are using in a project's arrangement, follow these steps:
    Choose Window > Environment.
From the Environment window menu, choose New > Channel Strip > Auxiliary. A channel strip will appear in the environment.
Select the channel strip. It will highlight.
In the Device parameter box in the upper left of the Environment window, click the arrows to the right of "Channel" and choose Audio > Audio 256 from the menu.
Select the text tool, click on the name below the channel strip and name it "Prelisten".

  • Battery Icon with Red Line on BB 8310

So, how pervasive is the problem of theBlackberry 8310 and its icon with the red line across from it?  Is it a problem with the battery? Or is it a problemwith the phone?  IS there any fix?
Mine came brand new in a box a few daysago. It came with a blue battery (C-S2). As soon as I put the battery into thephone, the dreaded Icon (battery with a red line through it) showed up.  I charged it, thinking that means the batteryis empty and left it charging for over 5 hours, hoping the Icon will go away.It never did, and now 4 days later and an infinite number of battery pulls, some with a twist or two, it is still there. If it was any otherpiece of technology I would dismiss it as junk. But, oh, this is the famous BB.
Instead, I did some research, have spentupwards of 15 hours over the last 4 days, trying to figure it out. I ran intolots of things on the Net, including the crackberry postings with people sayingthat they got rid of the problem by dropping (!!) the BB from 3-4 feet, sometimes repeatedly, until it fixed itself. Others report the problem aftersome time of use (flaky construction?). On this forum alone there are at least4 recent postings with the identical problem (search for “8310 battery line”and find the post of “Spyridonas” 12-13-08, of “black_black_b” 06-10-09, of  “hades” 09-27-09 and of “Alien_X” 09-28-09.  None of those seems to have got the attentionof anyone from RIM, and nobody offered any meaningful solution.  As people have reported time and again, it isvery unlikely to be the problem with the battery, so we are left to conclude thatthe phones are lemons.
We spend lots of money for a useless pieceof junk and nobody at RIM cares. If this was a car, it would have been recalled a long time ago. I will get my money back and buy somethingelse, maybe a Nokia or even a Moto. Watch out RIM, you are pissing off a lot ofpeople, and some of them are the wrong people to piss off.

I think you did. You pointed out each instance you could find when this fix did not work. You failed to point out the dozens of times this fix did work.
So, to answer your initial post questions:
So, how pervasive is the problem of theBlackberry 8310 and its icon with the red line across from it?
Not very pervasive. It certainly is not one of the top ten problems judging from the questions I see asked here and elsewhere.
Is it a problem with the battery?
Could be. Have you tried a brand new battery (I forget if you said).
Or is it a problemwith the phone?
Again, could be. There could be an issue with your battery contacts on the device.
    IS there any fix?
For most, yes. We've been over that.
Try cleaning the contacts on the device. See if that helps. Try a new battery... and often new batteries are very low or close to dead upon purchase so follow the directions above to charge and bootup.

Oh, thank you so much. You know, you get what you give. Your initial post above did not state what you had tried several times. We don't read minds, well, I don't at least.
    Alien_X wrote:
Anytime you buy a brand new item and it fails to work after 4 days of trying anything you can find I”d say you got a lemon.
You've had it four days, brand new, and you haven't returned it for a new device? That would be my first suggestion had you stated that first off. I would not keep that device if first off it didn't work. But a lemon? Nah, it's not a pervasive problem inherent to the model, which is what a lemon is normally defined as.

  • Battery icon with red line

I have a curve that only displays the battery icon with the red line thru it.
I have tried 3 different batteries in it and have also tried reloading the OS thru DM but no luck. I have a second Curve that works just fine with all the batteries I have for it.
Is there anyother way to reload the OS without using DM to do it? or any other cure for the battery problem

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Try doing the application load with the battery out.  It will error out and give a message similar to "unable to connect to device during a multi-stage load operation".  Once you get the error, put the battery back in and try the application load again.
You may have to try this four or five times, but if you can "spark" it for the second it looks for the PIN and gets connected you can finish the load.
    Make sense?

  • Battery symbol with red line thru it

how do you fix the blackberry with a battery symbol with a red line thru it?

    Try this first:
Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
If it doesn't boot--try using a wall outlet charger if you are not. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed, which you can download below.
Make certain your USB cable is connected to one of the PC's main rear USB ports. Not a USB hub, nor a monitor USB port, nor a USB port on the front of the PC.

  • Icon with red line through battery.

    Please help me!
I have an icon on my blackberry that has a battery with a red line. I bought a new battery and yes, it is the correct battery. Battery works in another phone, but not in mine. I think it is not recognizing the battery. I have tried linking up with Blackberry desktop, but my phone is not turning on because it is not recognizing the battery and therefore has no power source. I have tried everything. I cannot download new software because whenever I hook it up to the computer it says it is waiting for the device to turn on. I have pushed the reset button and tried a soft reset, but nothing.
I would really like my phone to work again, but what I want most are my contacts and a recorded voice note and I am not sure they are backed up.
    Sarah

And the issues started after the dropping of the BB? If so, that may void your warranty path...if it's still within the first year, that is. Given what you've described, I don't hold out much hope. Hands-on hardware-level assistance is what I think you need...which we naturally cannot provide here. I suggest you decide if it's worth what you need to go through to get that assistance (warranty or not, voided warranty or not, etc.) and then proceed accordingly.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Battety problems - blank screen wit battery sign with red line

I have the blackberry 8900 curve. Recently when I put my phone on charge it would turn my BB off and turn it self back on again. My battery was about 2% and I put it on charge and the phone turned off but when I looked at my phone the red light came on and then blank screen with a battery sign with a red line through it.
I got some advice to take out battery, sim card and memory card. Which I did and my BB turned back on. However my battery was still dead so I put it back on charge and it turned off and since then my BB hasn't turned back in. I've left it on charge and nothing.
Would really appreciate it if someone could help me out on this.

  • Blank screen showing battery sign with red line - possible solution

    Hi to everybody,
I had a little issue with my Blackberry curve 8350i, but I think this might go with several models. One day my Blacberry updated an application and restarted, but when restarting suddenly I got a blank screen showing a battery sign with a red line. I took out the battery and put it in again, but no luck. I searched on many forums if anyone experienced the same as me. I found a lot of topics but no solution. I called tech support of my service provide and fortunatelly I talked to a tech guy who was willing to help. He said that this error message usually might appear when the battery is faulty, not original (not my case) or device is not working, but before taking a final statement he wanted me to try something first. He said to take out the battery, the SIM card and any extern memory card. Then to clean any contacts with air. I followed his instructions and after that the device worked again without any problems. I would like to share this experience on this forum maybe this will help other to to solve similar issues.
    Best regards,
    Julix

Excellent advice! I just had the same thing happen to me and your post solution fixed my phone.

  • Encore / Images Blacked out with RED line on top

New at this. I have 1.67gb left in my project. (I have a lot of photos) Any way when I add more (Shift / Ctrl / g ) When I look at the bottom Left where the slides show up I just loaded 2 of the 60 photos I can see but the other 58 are black. All 60 have this red line above them.
Can anyone teach me what's going on here:)
    THANKS

    Joseph,
You are possibly (note: "possibly") on the right track with the elimination of each slide show, until you find the one that is "possibly" causing the problem.
Get a spool of DVD-RWs (rewritables), and do a Project with one of your slide shows, then burn to DVD-RW and test that. Does all work as it should? In that Project, add another slide show, repeat the DVD-RW burn again. Still OK? Add another, and another. If the process hangs, errors out, on one, check it completely to see if you can spot a problem with it. Sometimes, it's some tiny glitch that ruins the whole Project, and you have to spend some time searching through tons of good assets, just to find the offending one, or ones.
As for the size concern, take a look at the Disc Tab in your Project Panel. There will be a diagram of the DVD with the used portion colored in. Does it show that you still have room? If not, check the CD-ROM area, just below, to see if you accidently added some content there. If you have exceeded the capacity of a 4.7GB DVD, Encore should give you an error message, suggesting that you go with a DVD-9 (Dual Layer), instead of a DVD-5.
Question: where did you get the info, that you still have 1.38GB of space on this Project, the Disc Tab in the Project Panel? If so, that should tell you that you DO have room, i.e. the Project is not too large. It would then follow, that you likely have some problem and my first statements might help you track these down.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[EDIT] PS, Harm is only trying to help you explain your problem in enough detail, so that the folk who hang out here, can, in turn, help you solve your problem. As you can see from my response, I'm doing a lot of guessing, and much/all of it might be wrong. With more detail (per Harm's link), others will see what you started with, what you have done so far, and maybe even some hardware issues. The first couple of folk, who responded to you, are some of the best on this board.
