-42408 error???

I restored my 4th generation iPod Touch the other day because I tried to sync it and my iTunes said that I needed to restore it. Now I'm trying to sync it to put all my stuff back on it and a little popup window comes up saying "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-42408)" I'm going on a long trip tomorrow and I will need my iPod to keep me occupied. How do I fix this???

By any chance, are you running an iTunes version 9.0.3? If so, try updating to a higher version. Does that get you past the 42408?

The 42408 can be produced by trouble with the SC Info folder. Try removing the SC Info folder as per the instructions in the Remove the SC Info folder section of the following troubleshooting document:

I did the Downgrade to 10.7 / How to fix the 42408 error?

I did the downgrade iTunes to 10.7 (Because everybody who is into organizing the library knows that iTunes11 *****)
And im getting this 42408 error?
How to fix it? i really need to Authorize the computer.

I did all the replacement of itunes library.itl

To get rid of error -42408:
1. Close iTunes
2. From a terminal: killall iTunesHelper
3. Unplug any iOS devices
4. Restore these from a backup of /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ - you want to replace the current versions when Time Machine (or whatever you use) asks.

DeviceLink.framework
iTunesAccess.framework
MobileDevice.framework
Reboot before loading iTunes or reattaching any iOS devices for good measure.

ITunes 10.3.1(55) on Mac showing 42408 error when iPhone 3GS is connected for syncing

I am trying to connect my iPhone 3GS to iTunes 10.3.1(55) on a Macbook pro but I am seeing the error "42408" and I am being asked to restore my iphone to factory settings.
Please help as I don't want to undergo the risk of losing all my data.

not sure this helps; but, I've found that if the remote app doesn't connect I close it out (double pressing the home button and 'sliding up' the remote app (ios7)) Then when I restart the remote app - it seems to connect.
Same behavoir now on my iPad since I've update the remote app. Ironically itunes recognizes the ipad WITHOUT having to 'p'air it'! My iphone 5S must be paired to itunes =:0
now that all our iphones are on the most current version of ios7 and have the most current version of the remote app - the connect to itunes is now glitchy; but, still usable with the aforementioned work around. Ironcially, when either the ios7 OR the remote we just the most previous version they seemed to connect to my itunes without issue.

Agreed Apple seems a little remiss in the supporting the backward compatibilty of the app.

Ipod no longer authorized (unknown error -42408)

posted this at itunes site as well.
out of blue, having problem i've never had syncing my 60G ipod.
for years have been syncing this ipod with my itunes on my macbook (only). for the past few times (?month or so), i'm getting an error message when i try to sync that first says, the ipod/macbook is not authorized for this ipod (which it always has been).
then it asks me if i want to authorize it. when i hit "authorize", it brings up an old itunes account i had and asks me for the old password, which i enter. then i get an error message that says:
"unknown error -42408. error in itunes store. please try again later."
how do i fix this so that i don't get this error message and can continue syncing with my most recent account, which has NEVER been a problem in the past?

I have exactly the same problem. My iPod is a 30GB one from 2005 or 2006 (I don't know how to identify its category). When it was new, I had a PC; then a year and a half ago I switched to a Mac and got everything transferred ok, and have been synching the iPod to the Mac with no trouble since then. (Well, slight trouble, because the iPod is now very full, and I haven't figured out the best way to synch "almost everything", but so far I'm managing somehow.) But just before leaving Moscow March 10, I wanted to synch and recharge the iPod, and got the same problem, with the same sequence of messages described at the start of this thread. So I only recharged it. Now I'm in Amherst, tried again, exact same problem. So now only recharging again.
Same computer, same iPod, why does it suddenly not recognize that this computer is authorized to synch this iPod, and why does it make this error when I tell it to authorize it? And how can I fix it?

Itunes 10.6 - will not sync purchased apps - error -42408

I upgraded the IPAD to the new OS and upgraded Itunes on my windows business vista PC to 10.6 - the restore and sync of the IPAD fails telling me that my computer is not authorized to use the apps - I am unable to authorize it (recieve the -42408 error) - i've seen references to an itunes 9 issue but the fixes listed there dont seem to work - any ideas?

These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
Remove the SC Info folder.

in Windows iTunes will load but fails every time with "An unknown error has occurred (-42408)." There is no obvious way to uninstall iTunes. This includes manually starting iTunes from the Start menu and pluggin in an iPad2.

I just finished a re-install of iTunes 10.6.3.25 which worked fine. I am using Windows Vista. I logged off the Admin account and logged into a user account. I plugged in the iPad2 and it never got to the sync that normally happens automatically. then I got the -42408 error followed by another error: iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPad "iPad". Go to the Summary tab in the iPad preferences and click Restore to restore this iPad to factory settings.
If I do this, will I lose all the Apps that were purchased? Or will I need to re-download them? But most importantly, will doing this Restore fix the problem?

ITunes Error 42408 tide to java?

With Apple getting hit by hacker through java I shut down my java in Safari preferences. The next time I open iTunes I got the 42408 error. thinking to only thing that change to my system was the shutting off java, I turned it back on. Open iTunes again and no error. Washed, Rinse and Repete, the same thing happened!

If you restored your library from a backup done with iTunes 11, then that may be your issue. Do you have a backup that was done with iTunes 10?

Error -42408

I've been having a lot of problems with iTunes recently:
Genius syncs take forever and on most cases never stop.
iTunes won't close without killing the task in the taskmanager.
Refuses to add certain songs.
Itunes store won't load.
But finally, I got an error message while trying to go into the store saying 'Error -42408'.
I'm not sure if that's the cause of all my problems, but it's a start. I googled the code, nothing came up,
I typed it into the searchbar but nothing came up so I'm assuming It's a relatively new error?
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Downgrading iTunes to version 9.0.2 fixed this issue for me.
This was happening to me when I connected the oldest of my iPods, a 1st generation nano. Sometimes, iTunes told me that I must authorize my computer for the purchases on the iPod or it would remove them and -- once I had entered my Apple ID and password and clicked "Authorize" -- iTunes kindly informed me that I've "...already authorized this computer." Other times, I got the -42408 error that you've experienced when clicking "Authorize."
If, on the other hand, I synced my iPod Classic (80GB) first, the nano syncs without an issue. I also, however, saw your symptom #2 when connecting the Classic when syncing in various sequences and could never determine exactly what circumstances caused it.

iTunes is telling me my computer is not authorized; when I try to re-authorize, I get an error message (-42408) from the Apple iTunes store. Is this a problem a the store, with my computer, or my iPod?

I've been having this -42408 error problem for weeks. Unable to authorise computer with iTunes store..."try again later". I wasn't able to sync my iPod or do anything, and songs were removed from my iPod (about 100 songs). I tried restoring my iPod and it worked for a day then the problem came back. Talked to a very helpful Japanese guy at Apple who told me to do this...AND IT WORKED!! Evidently my iTunes program was uploaded with a glitch, and had to reload it. He said you have to be extremely careful and follow the exact order deleting and reloading. My music files all reinstalled themselves and everything plays, no errors. (at least not for yet!) this workes for XP but there is a link for other Windows programs. Good luck. (BTW I am not a computer expert so am pleased that this turned out so well.) HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF!

TS1389 It keeps coming up with an Error message when I try to Authorize it.
