44.1khz to 48khz

When I film public speakers, I give them a small digital recording device that plugs into a lapel mic, to augment their voice. However, the device records at 44.1 khz. How can I convert the files I get from it to 48khz, so I can mix it with my DV, and not have to slow it down by .015 (or whatever it ends up being)?
I have tried bringing it into a seperate project, with 44.1 as the projec's uadio settings, and then exporting to a 48 quicktime movie, but it has changed nothing.
Thanks for the help!

Sorry...did not understand that you meant out-of-synch tempo-wise or speed-wise. So you recorded your audio on a separate device, (say, a DAT recorder) and intended to synch it with your video? I can not see how audio sample rate (and/or converstions between 44 and 48 kHz) would ever effect speed. I am wondering about the devices you used to record you audio and video, and if you used the same ones to capture to digital. Or, perhaps the power supply to the units was not consistent (between recording and capture) and created a slight speed shift in a tape transport mechanism. Obviously, I have no clear idea sorry. Hope somebody has a definitive answer for you.

  • Why can't I choose 44.1kHz instead 48kHz

When I export video using H.264, I cannot change the audio rate from 48kHz to to 44.1 kHz.
How can I change the audio resolution of 44.1kHz (just like the original file)?
It seems that Encoder produces slight audio glitches when resampling the original audio file.
Your help would be very much appreciated.

OK, thanks. That should mean that you have the latest H.264 installed. I've not used MP4, or MOV Export enough to really help you there, but with my Exports, I haven't encountered any Audio glitches that I could detect.
At least others will have the info, and may have some suggestions to help you.
We've pretty much ruled out the 44.1KHz to 48KHz as the issue, since the resulting conformed Audio performs well in PrPro. Something has got to be amiss in the Export/Encoding step.
    Good luck,

  • Keeping Sample Rates in Sync: 44.1kHz or 48kHz?

After reading about, and working with, sample rates in FCE and Soundtrack, I'm a bit confused about which sample rate(s) to use to keep audio and video in sync.
    For example:
    In Soundtrack Express, I'm working with a music track -- 44.1kHz/16bit/stereo; and a voice track -- 44.1kHz/16bit/mono.
When I export the mix to FCE I get a default option of 48kHz/16bit, which resulted in a 48kHz .aif file.
And since my FCE sequence defaults to an Aud Rate of 48kHz, it seems like the audio and video sample rates in this example would be in synch. Is this correct?
    On the other hand ...
if I imported the same 44.1kHz music file directly into FCE, and created the same 44.1kHz voice over file, I'd have two files with a 44.1kHz sample rate as part of the FCE sequence, which has an Aud Rate of 48kHz. Would this configuration be considered out of synch? And if so, what problems would it cause?
    Finally:
    1. Do the sample rates of all media in a FCE sequence need to have the same sample rate as the sequence?
    2. If so, does this sample rate need to be 48kHz?
    3. Or, am I off in how I'm thinking about this?
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    2. It should all be the same. If you captured video that was 32K then everything should be 32K.
In my example I didn't capture any video: I imported a music file and did a voice over, both of which were 44.1K. So are you saying, that by rendering the media sample rates get synched up with the sequence aud rate?

  • 320 vs 256, CBR vs VBR, 44.1Khz vs 48Khz

Can someone please tell me the difference between the above settings when converting from CD/lossless?
I know the 320/256 is the bit rate, higher = better quality, I know what CBR and VBR *stand for*, and I know that 44.1/48 is the sample rate, but I'm not sure what it actually means.
    Can someone help?
    Thank you.

Constant Bit Rate means the same bitrate is forced in all parts of the music regardless of changes in the nature of the sound. VBR means the bitrate is varied as the music complexity changes, higher for more complex music. Normally you won't see anything as simple as "320" or "256" if VBR is used because a single number just reports the average bitrate (ABR) used across all the music since the number is rarely constant. I usually go with VBR though you are to a certain extent letting the encoder decide what needs to be encoded at what rate. As another poster commented, 320 CBR (which is the maximum bitrate in mp3) is used when you want to be absolutely sure but may result in unnecessarily large files. I rarely see any ABR go above 256 and many are closer to 200.

  • 44.1 to 48khz conversioin......

I'm trying to convert my audio from 44.1khz to 48khz...
    Tried FCP, Quicktime, and Compressor...
All give me squeaky and speedy-like (I think) sounding audio...
What is this sound? And how do I fix it or convert the right way?...
    Thank you!

I've always used QuickTime Pro for this task and it's never failed me. You may want to try SoundTrack Pro or iTunes and see if they work any better for you.

I am running iDVD v 7.1.2(1158).  I used to be able to make dvds that would play in a standard dvd player.  As of today I cannot.  I do not know what has changed and I do not know what needs to be updated.  Can someone assist me?
The dvds that I can make will play from a disk image and they can play perfectly fine in a computer but not in a standard dvd player.  I am using an external dvd burner, (The same one  have always used) to create the dvds.  I am using iDVD to author them.

    • Material used: Video-Codec and Photo file format and Audio file format - matters too. I use
    - Video - StreamingDV .dv or AIC
    - Photos as .jpg (only)
    - Audio as .aiff 16bit 44.1kHz or 48kHz (ONLY - never .mp3 or directly from iTunes - all converted to .aiff first)
With this I do not mean any setting in iDVD - BUT the raw material used in iMovie / FinalCut / Avid 100 / Adobe Premiere
As this usually matters - later in iDVD
How did You Export from Video-editing program used ? I prefer
    • iMovie HD6 - just drop the movie project icon (NOT iMovie Icon - the PROJECT one) over into iDVD big menu window (avoiding - drop-zones as they are for other tasks)
    • iMovie'08 to '11 - Share to MEDIA BROWSER - AND AS MEDIUM - not HD or other resolution as iDVD does a bad downscaling job.
    • iMovie'13 (version 10.0.x) - Share as 480p - Import this into iDVD
    • FinalCut (Pro or Express) - Export as QuickTime .mov - NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION - IMPORTANT
    • Adobe Premiere - I don't know - not tested Yet
    • Avid 100 - I don't know - not tested Yet
Cleaning the DVD-burner - If it Burns DVDs OK then that's may be not the problem - But if it only burns CDs OK then either the DVD-burning-laser is dirty or broken.
It is very easy to kill this DVD-laser as it over-heats if one burns several DVDs in a row. I only burn three at a time - then let it cool down for 30 minutes till next batch of three DVDs.

  • Why does my dvd stop burning ?

I am trying to create a slide show using I dvd.  I imported my IMOVIE to IDVD and go to burn it.. Then it goes half way through and stops with four minutes remaining and then pops out while it says WRITING LEAD IN.. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi
    A. iDVD cares about duration/time only. This is two parts - Movie time + Menu time. Menu can take 15 minutes or more from total duration. Gbs and Mbs is of no interest at all - I've movies on 500Mb that are to large to fit and on 50Gb that fit's nicely. Only time counts.
    B. Brand of DVD matters - Memorex a known problem maker - I use Verbatim (more organic dye in them)
    C. Type of DVD matters - +/-RW usually fails - I use DVD-R as they play on more even older DVD-Players
    D. Burn Speed - matters - I use x2 or x4 ==> Less Burn Errors - Plays on more Players and better.
    E. Material used matters - What video codec and what audio file format and photo file formats was included in Your product ?
    I use
    • Video - StreamingDV .dv
    • Audio - only .aiff 44.1kHz or 48kHz - NO .mp3 .vma etc
    • Photo - only .jpg - NO .bmp (goes red)

  • Bcache setup advice wanted

    Hello World
I have been tinkering with mine SDD-HDD setup with Bcache.
And i was wondering if i did it right ???
Mine Idea was to have a 90GB SDD for quick root access.
And use the rest of the SSD with Bcache to speedup files from the HDD.
Any advice or tweaks are welcome.. and if needed i can put mine whole install wikipage here. (VERY LARGE)
But its 100% SSH install friendly with copy and past commands
Here is a Bcache mounting part of mine private wikipage.
    ==== Mount the partitions ====
    cd ~/
    mkdir -p /mnt/install
    mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/install
    mkdir -p /mnt/install/{boot,home,srv,data,var,mnt/.hdd}
    mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/install/boot
    mount /dev/bcache0 /mnt/install/mnt/.hdd
    mkdir -p /mnt/install/mnt/.hdd/{home,srv,data,var}

For one, forget the SoundBlaster Audigy.  You're more likely to have more pain and heartache with it...
Most likely you are going to want to try the Ultragain on one of your optical interfaces.  The Emu card says it supports optical ADAT and I believe your Event Ez8 does as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that.  If you're multitracking you would only get up to 10 tracks (or 12 if the spdif counts too) per record session (@44.1kHz or 48kHz) from the Emu+Ultragain, but that should be enough in most cases.  With the Ez8 I think you only get 8 tracks.  Since you can only use one ASIO driver at a time and there is probably no way to sync them, your best bet would be to use one PCI card (Emu) and leave the rest out of the system...
You may be able to use the EzBus as a MIDI controller, but you'd have to get advice from others on that one.  I just never really use MIDI controllers in my setups. It would make a really nice 2 track interface for a laptop though...

  • FCP 7 short clip via share export keeps blinking and does not react. Thank you for your support!

Try to export renederd short clip in FCP 7 via Share, but export knob keeps blinking and does not react. Please help,
    thank you very much!

I did notice the "sequence" indicated 32 bit and all the clips, wav music, etc. are 16 bit.  Is that normal?
    May be but I would.
    • Convert all material to formats that FinalCut has easy to use and that match the Final product (Movie)
    • especially the Audio file .wma, wav etc and 32-bit - is no good start
    - convert them to .aiff 16-bit 44.1kHz or 48kHz
    • Set up a NEW Project - BUT FIRST select - right kind of project depending on material - AND FINAL MOVIE PROPERTIES.
THEN FIRST - Start a NEW PROJECT - Else it will not work.

  • IMovie playback problems

    Hello again,
I would appreciate some help with a problem I have with iMovie.
I have created a movie that has taken me all weekend to make so far, it is about an hour long, it is a mixture of still photos and movie clips and is currently made without a theme. I now need to put music against it but before I do I have played it back and the photos come up on the screen in random order, sometimes they are distorted and repeat several times.  When I play back in preview mode and watch the scroll bar move through the movie, it works perfectly.  The problem only exists when I play it back as if I was watching the full movie.
I have had some previous advice to tidy up iPhoto where I rebooted the machine holding down the alt and command buttons and selecting all options to tidy up the photos but this only half helped.  The tidy up was helpful in enabling the playback to be better but now the full move screen play back.
I have made many movies before without problem so it I don't think it is user error.  I have checked to see if I have deleted any of my movies or photos that are used as I have found this to be a problem in the past, but this is not the case this time.
    All suggetions welcome.

    Hi
If You tidyied up iPhoto - then I would
    • Trash iMovie pref files
    • Repair Permissions (Disk Util tool)
    • Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - BUT YOU MUST START YOURS Mac from DVD or External Hard Disk - It can not make brain surgery on it self)
Last resort for me would then be to
    • Make Copy of Project (severals)
    • DO NOT touch Original Project
    • Split one Copy - trash one half - see if other RUN OK
    • This splitting and deleting - is a very rude but functioning way to scale down where the problem originates if it is embedded in the movie project e.g. a bad Clip, Photo or Audio file.
    BTW I do:
Video - Only StreamingDV or AIC - Video Codec
Photo - relative small (10Mb) .jpg - NO .bmp or other formats - all converted to .jmp first
AUDIO - ONLY .aiff 16-bit 44.1kHz or 48kHz - NO .mp3 or directly from iTunes or other ailient formats - all converted to .aiff first
By doing this I've scaresly no problem with my videos.

  • EMU 0404PCI-e and Windows 7 64 bit - No audio

    Hi all
I found you guys through Google after I have been tearing my hair out, trying to sort out my problem with audio and Windows 7. Have just installed W7 Ultimate 64, fresh install about 5 days ago and I can't solve this problem.
First of all, Windows 7 would not play anything in Media Player, gave me the Media Player c00d11b1 error every time. Rebooted and it worked for about 1 minute and then the same error appeared. Tried everything, downloaded codec packs, tried various regserver.dll commands and other. Then I realised my onboard sound was disabled in the bios. So enabled that and hey presto, the sound started, for 1 min again. But this time the mixer (windows 7) was showing signal and WM player was playing, just can't hear anything! But if I play something back through FL Studio, it comes out fine through ASIO and the patchmix. Jut can't hear any wav, mp3 or youtube stuff which I think all plays back through wave. So how do you link the wave output from W7 to the input on the patchmix please?
Cause I think that would solve it, hopefully.
    Thanks
    Paul
    My spec is as follows
    Intel QX6600 CPU
    4GB RAM (DDR2)
    EMU 0404 PCI-e Sound Card

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64
    FL Studio 9.5 Beta

No I didn't its still doing it. Please can you guys help me solve this?
    Many thanks

I'm not sure if this is related directly to your issue but, this type error can happen when samplerate changes from, lets say, 44.1kHz to 48kHz or 96kHz or 32kHz, etc. if the soundcard driver isn't capable for automatic samplerate changing ... which is quite common (issue) with pro cards (if you have used Soundblaster/X-Fi cards or have been using onboard sound, you never needed to worry 'bout samplerate changes (maybe you didn't even know if there were audio files having various samplerate) as far as samplerate didnt go beyond hardware capabilities since, the driver handled this change automatically.
As many software uses DS or MME for output, it's possible that 0404 PCI has same limitation as what 0404USB has ... only ASIO mode switches samplerate automatically "on the fly." To get ASIO mode with WMP, you may try ASIO plugin (you'll find it by googling).

my Ipad 1 won't play Cars2 HD movie how do I fix?

    Hi
To get my Audio working I do
    • only use .aiff 44.1kHz or 48kHz
    • .mp3, .wma etc - all I convert to .aiff first
    • from iTune - I do - Collect needed audio into a new PlayList - Then I burn this as an Audio-CD (not .mp3 - only .aiff) - then I use the files from this Audio-CD in my movie projects
And by doing like this - I have very few Audio problems.
