4400 failover between WAN sites

I have 2 4400 controllers. Each is located at a different site and the access points at each site will have a primary and secondary controller. Each site is on a different subnet. When the link between the sites fails then each site works fine as a standalone. However, if one controler fails then I am trying to understand what will happen to the clients. The APs will come up on the failover controller which is now in a different subnet. How can I get the clients on the "primary" subnet to get the correct IP subnet address when they are connected to the secondary controller? I know H-REAP offers some solutions but if there is delay in response most users will reboot their clients and then not be able to authenticate. Am I correct in assuming that failover controllers only work if both controllers are on the same subnet?

The failover controllers do not have to be on the same subnet. We have tested this type of failover and have had good results. First of all make sure your WLANs match for both sites. If the controller at site "A" fails and all the AP's at that site attach to the controller at site "B" your DHCP clients at site "A" will issue a new DHCP request and take an IP address from the subnet at site "B". We have staged these failure tests with 100+ access points. It takes about 90 seconds for the APs to connect to the new controller and the clients to get a new IP address.

  • What does Lync automatic/Manual Failover between sites

    Hi,
I have 2 Lync sites. Each site has one FE pool with 3 FE servers. Each Pool has dedicated one BE server
I configured backup pool relationship with each other. no Enterprise voices in my Lync infra.
I would like to know what Lync does exactly when Lync automatic failover while one site goes unexpected down?
will users gets their contacts after moving another site pool?
    also
I would like to know what Lync does when we do Lync manual failover while one site goes for maintanence?
Will user gets their contacts after moving another site pool??
    Thanks

You need to have the CMS available as it's the repository that stores the topology, configurations and policies. If the pool that hosts the CMS goes down you must failover the CMS before you can failover the pool. Presence information and contacts is not
    part of the CMS.
Fail Site B, you'll see that users are in limited mode until you run the pool failover commands even though Site A has the CMS.

  • Multiple WAN site redundancy design review (dark fiber, p2p, DMVPN)

I'm re-designing a couple of wan sites.  I'm using EIGRP over both some leased dark fiber and p2p provider connections.  The attached (pdf) physical topology says it all, I'm thinking of using ip sla to track and inject routes over prefered connections, but really just looking for feed back if someone is interested in taking a look.
I've bought 2 2951's with es3g-16-p modules so I can build svi's and do hsrp between the paths, building redundancy between the 3 available paths back to our enterprise core (1Gbps, 40Mbps, 50Mbps).
    multiple vlans at both sites...
    e.g.: (wan site1 (vlan 10-15), want site2 (vlan 16-20))
    Thoughts and thanks?

    hi there
not sure why you need to use DMVPN if it all internal same internal network unless you need to have all the traffic between sites to be encrypted
anyway in general i would say of use the direct link to reach the directly connected networks per site
example using site one 100M link to reach DC and WAN
and use site2 50M local link to reach WAN as primary path and use the site1-site2 fibre to reach DC as primary path for site2 this could archive a good load sharing and reduce the load on the link between site1 and site2
IP SLA in a topology like your for sure can very helpful to improve failover time and make the routing more topology aware
    hope this helps

  • Reroute some vrf traffic between 2 sites over redundant link

    hey guys,
We have a single client (in vrf) with 2 sites in different states and running over our mpls core.. Our primary link in our core is experiencing degredation of service and want to route this client over our redundant link while keeping all other clients going over our primary link - is this possible?
The client in question has its own vrf (L3VPN) at both sites and is running over mpls between both sites. We want to re-route this particular client to take our backup path, while keeping everyone else between both sites going over the primary. We are not using TE, instead LDP to build MPLS.
I don't believe this is possible to only re-route one client, however I thought I would ask the question.
We cannot failover to secondary link for everyone between both sites because the link doesn't have the capacity.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Using MPLS TE would certainly be an option. You would need to setup an MPLS TE LSP over the backup. You would also need to configure a separate lookback interface on each PE and use this loopback interface address as the next hop for the specific VRF
    ip vrf X
    bgp next-hop loopback 999
    ip route 255.255.255.255 Tu1
This way you would make sure that only the traffic for this specific VRF would travel over the TE tunnel.

  • Exchange High availability between two sites with two servers

    Hi Team,
I have a requirement to deploy exchange server 2010 between two sites. but i have limited resources to full fill this. below the summary.
    2 servers in two sites
different subnets will user for two sites
    Need to deploy DAG.
please let me know the considerations for this deployment.
    Thank you

Hi - In this scenario, you would setup the following: Site 1: Exchange 2010 Multi-Role server File Share location to place File Share Witness for the DAG Site 2: Exchange 2010 Multi-Role server The above will give you 2 nodes in the primary location and
one node in the secondary location so that resources will stay in Site one. You will also need to enable DAC (Datacenter Activation Coordination) on the DAG so that the Cluster group can be managed by Exchange. Last but not least, you will want to restrict
automatic failover of resources to Site 2 by blocking that action on the Exchange server in Site 2 using 'Set-MailboxServer <servername> -DatabaseCopyAutoActivationPolicy Blocked' This will make you manually failover to site 2 and not end up with resources
there after a sudden failure or issue that is not impacting the entire site.Jason Apt Microsoft Certified Master | Exchange 2010

  • Diff between WAN replication and MAN replication

    Hi All,
Kinldy tell me differnece between WAN replication and MAN replication in cluster in weblogic server.
    Thanks in advance.
    Balaji kumar

MAN replication uses in-memory replication to keep the primary and secondary copies of the session
on different clusters. It always attempts to locate the secondary session on the remote cluster.
If connectivity between the data centers is lost, the local cluster will replicate the session within
the cluster. On the first request for the session once inter data center connectivity is restored, WebLogic
Server will relocate the session’s secondary to the remote cluster.
WAN replication uses in-memory replication within the primary cluster and asynchronous
replication via a database to keep a third copy of the session at the remote data center.
The database-backed replication mechanism makes the session data available to the other data center's
cluster should data centerlevel failover occur. The local server buffers its primary session updates in
an in-memory buffer that is periodically flushed. The database-backed replication has two modes of
    operation:
    - Local cluster periodically flushed the in-memory buffer to its local database. Cross data center
replication is handled externally using some sort of database level replication technology
    of your choosing.
    - Local cluster uses RMI to push updates periodically from the in-memory buffer to the
remote cluster. The remote cluster writes these updates to its local database.

  • Error when moving files between Sharepoint sites using 'content and structure' feature

    Hi,
I am using Sharepoint Online 2013 on a mac computer.
I am trying to move files between sharepoint sites/libraries but because the "open with explorer" link does not work on mac computers, I need to do so using the 'content and structure' feature.
When I select a file to move and then select the destination site/doc library, i get the following error:
An error was encountered performing this operation.
Operation to Move '120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf' to '/Ops/internal/admin/General Admin' failed
No items were moved. Please remove 120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf from the selection and retry operation
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Kate

    Hi Kate,
If you mean only one file "120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf" could not be moved, please compare this file to the other files moved successfully, check if there are some differences, like the content types, fields.
Also compare the source library and destination library, make sure they have the the same type of fields.
And you could have a try of moving this single file separately see if it could help, or as a workaround to download this file from source and upload to the destination library.
Since it is related to SharePoint Online 2013, we cannot see the ULS log for more information, I would suggest you post this issue in Office365 SharePoint online dedicated forum via the following link for a better assistance.

  • Messages Stuck in Submission Queue after Database failover to DR site

    Hi Everyone,
Yesterday Night we had a Database failover to DR site but emails were stuck in the submission queue to resolve we failed back the Database. We have Exchange 2010 SP3 Ru4 with Active-Active DAG across 2 AD sites.
After checking the connectivity logs on the Transport server i found out that the Transport server was trying to connect to the mailbox server where this database was residing directly instead of using the Transport servers in the 2nd site.
We have 4 more databases on the same server but for those databases there was no issues and the mail flow was working fine.
Only thing i checked is that we have about 700 GB of log files for this database. Could that can cause this issue.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
I did not restart transport service. I assume restarting transport service might have resolved the issue.
But, i want to know the reason why this happened as we have stretch DAG so this can cause major outage in case more mailbox database fails over.
Removing the logs files is what i am thinking to do maybe within this week.

  • Differences between Publishing sites and publishing enabled document library

    Hi
what is the main differences between Publishing sites and publishing enabled document library
and how to enable publishing for document library?
    adil

Publishing Sites is an out-of-the-box site template designed to publish web pages and it comes with a pre-built workflow or without (depends on which template you pick). It comes with libraries such as Pages library, Publishing Images, or Site Images.
It is configured to fully customized the master pages (or add new ones), and page layouts.
There is no such thing as publishing enabled document library. A document library is not designed to publish web pages. You can have Site Pages library in a team site, but if you are looking to fully brand a site collection, then this is not your answer.
You will need to use a Publishing Site to fully brand your Internet or Intranet site.
You can enable the publishing infrastructure on any site that is NOT a publishing site, but this does not turn your provisioned site to a publishing site. It simply turns on publishing features, such as navigation management, master pages/page layouts management,
    publishing workflows, etc....

  • Receivables question: AR invoices/credit memos between Supplier Sites

I'm trying to solution a client requirement of having the ability to transfer AR invoices/credit memos between supplier sites of the same supplier. Is this possible or is there a comparable workaround available in Receivables R12?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,
are you sure ... AR Invoices/Credit Memos to Suppliers ???  Looks like a typo error some where ... However, we might not be able to transfer transactions from one site to another (be it supplier or customer), what we can do is merge ....in which case all transactions that are appearing against a particular site would be pushed to the new site ......this could be taken as a workaround ...
Merge functionality comes with very less flexbility, you cannot choose the transactions that you wanted to merge ....

  • WLC in two different WAN sites using same DNS

I have two different wlc's that are located in different locations and WAN sites.  I want them to use the same DNS for both sites since there is no need to add a specific server in the small areas.  When adding a DNS entry for "cisco-capwap-controller" for AP discovery, is there a way to make it distinguish which local controller to use?

    Hi,
We had a similar issue with different controllers in different sites, for different wireless networks. I got around the issue by creating wireless specific subdomains to hold the relevant dns records in.
    For example:
    Site A = siteA.rf.mycompany.com
         A Record =  cisco-capwap-controller 10.1.1.100
    Site B = siteB.rf.mycompany.com
         A Record = cisco-capwap-controller 10.2.2.100
    Site C = siteC.rf.mycompany.com
          A Record = cisco-capwap-controller 10.3.3.100

  • WISM at headquarters and 1121G's at WAN sites (T-1)

I have approximatley 100 1121G aps that were autonomous and coverted to lightweight on my LAN with various wlans. I have 13 WAN sites that are connected T-1 with about 20 1121G's currently in autonomous mode. Can I convert those aps to lightweight and configure them from my controller at headquarters? Its my understanding the AP-1121G-A-K9 is not REAP or H-REAP compatible. If it is possible, is it acceptable that the wlan would associate to the same interface or is that bad design?

I appreciate your response. Let me clarify the design to see if we are on same page. The WAN wired LAN network would be lets say 10.1.1.x /24. I would configure lets say a couple local networks on the 6509/720 (headquarters) and create interfaces and associate them to a particular wlans with groups and wlan override. Lets say those two networks are 172.16.1.x /24 (EAP-FAST) and 172.16.2.x /24 (WPA-PSK). So at the WAN site there is an EAP-FAST client. They would authenticate/dhcp and get a 172.16.1.5 ip. At another WAN site, same setup with lightweight ap. Client gets a 172.16.1.10 ip. Is all of this feasible and legitimate design?

  • Windows 2008 AD Sites and Services: Multiple Connection links between same sites

    Hello,
Our AD Sites  & Services is showing Multiple Connection links between the same sites. How is this possible and can i delete extra ones?

    Hi,
As Calin Liviu mentioned, you do not have to manage connection objects. In fact, changes that you make to connection objects that the KCC creates automatically are ignored.
If the site is added to more than one site link, it might be an interim site between other sites that are added to this site link.

  • Failover between ASA5515-X and ASA5510

    Hi,
I would like to know if it's possible and how can we setup a failover between ASA 5515-X and a ASA 5510.
I'm aware that the ASA 5510 requires Security Plus for HA Active/Active.
    Any answer are welcome,
    Thanks !

    Hi Jouni,
Thanks for your prompt answer !
Too bad to hear that we can't achieve that :/
I guess that in the concept, HA must be same hardware (make sense of course, as we need to be "higly" available if one hardware fall down),
but for the concept to "fail" over something, it would have been great to have features within multi device (like you can temporary  "fail" over a 10 Mbps line when your 100 Mbps is down...)
But well, too much concept, it's how it is ! ;= Thanks again for your accurate answer !
    Nice day'
