44k to 48k?

Hello
Many pops in my music bed in an NTSC DV sequence - I checked and the audio which came from a CD is 44k. Seq is 48k. Do I have to change the audio to 48, if so how, or won't FCP 4.5 do it automatically when I render?
Thanks

If you're using FCP, anything in iTunes can't be that complicated, it was probably my explanation.
Anyway, now that you have set iTunes to import at 48 (yes it will only affect future imports) now, in the iTunes library, select the song you want to convert and from the ADVANCED menu select CONVERT SELECTION TO AIFF. The song will convert and be placed in your iTunes library.
Find the song (sort by date modified) and control click it to select SHOW SONG FILE. This will show you the converted song in the finder. Then you can just drag it to an FCP bin.
As you can see, iTunes isn't the easiest way to do this which is probably why X recommended using QT PRO. But it does the job.

So who can tell me why my project in which all the peices are saved 41k are magically transfered to 48k when saved as an MP3?

Because your MP3 encoder isn't set up properly? Have you checked all the options available when you save as .mp3?

  • Out of sync audio - CC 7.2.2

    Hi
I'm quite a newbie in editing. Again a problem with audio synchronization. Last time I had to make a DVD and it was resolved simply with Encore, as a kind person here told me.
    This time, my sequence settings:
    - avchd 1080p square pixel, 25 fps.
    - 48000 hz, audio sample.
    - 1920x1080
I shot at 25fps with Canon 5DII and 650D, 1080p. I recorded audio with Zoom H4N with its crossed mics, mp3 320 kbps, I can't see if it recs at 44k or 48k...
I exported a h264 file for YouTube HD 1080p 25, CBR, and I kept unchanged all other settings. I play the file with QuickTime and I see the problem.
Please help me. Thanks in advance.

    Please somebody help me.

  • Importing into Audition CC from REAPER

I wanted to use Adobe Audition CC for my DAW, but for some reason it won't detect the VST's that I want to use which are EZmix and EZdrummer.  So I will just use my REAPER DAW.  I want to then export the tracks in REAPER to Adobe Audition to do mixing and mastering.  Which files should I export them as for the best quality?

Make sure you have 64-bit versions of each installed in order for Audition CC to see them.  I believe Ezmix is a standard VST, but I'm not certain if EZDrummer is a VST or VSTi (virtual instrument.)  If the latter, it can't be used in Audition.
When exporting from Reaper, the best format is an uncompressed WAV at 44K or 48K sample rates, depending on the project and destination.  Do not export your tracks to MP3 or another lossy, compressed format if you'll be using them for further production.

  • Slow dial up Internet connection with Internal modem

I just bought a Mac G4 with dual 1.25 gig processors and internal modem for my dial up connection to the Internet. My modem connect speed is 28.8K and max through put on a session is 19K.
I can use any of 3 Windows/PC's and plug them into the same phone jack and get a solid 50.6K connection with a max through put of 49K. Get basically the same connect speeds with a Windows Laptop
Any thoughts of what may be the problem with the Mac Internal modem and such a slow connect speed.
Would buying an external modem with its own processor help me in better connect speeds. Simply at 28.8K the Mac is next to useless on the web.
My home is all wired with Cat 5e, all jacks are a direct run to the punch down block.
My goal is to switch my business to all Mac's, but I need to get the connect problem resolved first.
    Thank You

My girlfriend lives in a hill town in a fairly wooded mountain road. She cannot get broadband or DSL either, and the town will, probably never get it. She has satellite, and when it's working well it's great, but in bad weather or cloudy days, the reception is spotty and the satellite provider charges mucho buck for their satellite high speed internet acesss.
So, she has no choice but to rely on the town's phone lines and basically is stuck with dial-up. Unfortunately, the town's phone lines are very old and are analog lines with no digital support. The fastest she can ever achieve is 28k to 30K speeds. Panifully slow dial-up and even small downloads are an experience in patience and time.
Maybe call the phone company to check what kind of phone lines your town or surrounding towns are using.
And if they know what data transfer speeds the lines support
    Also, a thought.
If this Mac was not purchased new, but as a refurbished or used Mac, it could've had a "new" slower modem installed because the original failed and a identical spec'd modem was not installed.
I have a single 1.25 Ghz MDD and has a V.92 56K internal modem and I just found out my town's phone lines can support a 125k data transfer or "high speed dial-up". Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, my 56K will only get me to transfer speeds of between 44k and 48. Not sure if this is fault of my modem, accessing my ISP as the dial-up number dials into a tower at least 20 miles away and my ISP's server is over 40 miles away.
My brother came to visit and his PC laptop could dial-in to his ISP and was able to get transfer speeds of 100k to 120k.
Again, not sure if this was because of a faster modem or not.
You would think that if the phone line in my area can support 128k speeds that my modem should be tapping in and operating at 50k spedds or close to the modem's max of 56k.
This is a stumper becuase I am considering looking for a high speed dial-up provider to replace my current ISP, but if my modem won't clock to any faster than 44k or 48k , I think this would be a waste of my efforts and money.
If anyone can help me shed some light on my situation, this will help me out, as well.

  • 0404USB Pops and Crackles

I have just purchased the 0404 USB audio interface in hopes that it would solve problems I was having with the audio for Proteus X and M Audio Key Rig. So far no luck. My computer is a Gateway 7330GZ laptop running a Pentium 4 at around 3ghz with 512mb of memory. All of the system details exceed the specs for both the 0404 USB Audio Interface and Key Rig. Yet no luck in getting Key Rig to actually produce decent sound for any length of time. Too many crackles, pops and eventually almost straight pink noise. If used with ASIO4All key rig crashes after running for a few minutes. I am sure I could use some additional RAM but do not want to keep buying things under the hopes that one of them eventually will solve my problem. The "onboard" audio on my laptop uses a Conexant Audio driver. I can get Proteus to sound OK but the latency is unacceptable.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers.
The 0404 is connected directly to the computer's USB port and reports USB 2.0 as its speed.
I have installed the production tools bundle of software.
Sonar's playback of audio on one of the sample projects works great.
Have adjusted latency all over the place and have not been successful with M Audio Key Rig. I can get Proteus X to work with significant latency but then I cannot play it properly because the delay is too great.
I have mostly used 44K and 48K sample rates, but I have tried all of the sample rates and latencies available.
I have stopped all unnecessary services, used msconfig to run only a limited array of drivers and programs, disabled the driver for the onboard audio card, and I have then used msconfig to load everything. Nothing solves this problem. I have uninstalled ASIO 4 ALL and ASIO2KS which are other ASIO drivers that I had previously downloaded and used. I have downloaded an ASIO test signal and it has the same problems which is that when a sine wave or a sweep is selected it crackles and pops. You can hear the sine wave frequency and/or the sweep but not without random crackles and pops. I used DPC latency checker and disabled almost everything in Device Manager, one item at a time and latency checker would never render a good report if anything was using the ASIO driver. I could run programs like Microsoft Excel, that do not use ASIO and latency checker would render a good report. But the minute I started a program that used ASIO latency checker would turn its green bars to yellow and red indicating that the system would not playback audio well.
I can play back non ASIO audio just fine. Unfortunately I only have a few days before my return period expires and if I cannot resolve this in the next few days I will have to return the product.
    Thanks for the help.
    Wags.

  • 'Read-Only' is applied to 44k photos while using LR5...can't save work.

    Hello,
    As noted in the title...
Using MacPro (5 years old), OS Lion, full RAM, 4 HD's with 2 TB+ drives, plenty ofroom left over in all.
ALL 44k images located in one LR3 catalog (recent upgrade to LR5 hoping for remedy 2 days ago) show 'read-only' notice, so after doing any kind of work on them in develop, etc. I select all (in specific folder, not 44k photos!) then save it, a notice comes up and says these are 'read-only' files. Thus not able to save any work that is apparent in LR.  BUT, when exported as JPG all changes are saved.
I have opened various folders, NOT via LR, but via Finder (OS Lion) and opened one by one using PS 4 and they open fine in RAW converter window.  Save as PSD, all files look fine.  Same for JPG's.
The issue is LR, or hard drive or something along the chain where the photos, when viewed in LR, say they are 'read-only'.
Via Finder window I have opened various files (denoting read-only notice) and right-clicked to 'get info' on that specific photo. ALL files are 'read and write', there are NO files that are denoted read-only when getting the info.  I checked 50+ photos in 25 different folder locations.
    Laptop test:
I started a new LR catalog in LR5, with ZERO photos and imported a few folders, with images that had 'read-only' notice to make sure I tested the same photos that had given me the read-only notice.
Did a test on photos with 'read-only' files on a laptop (OS Mountain Lion), pulled files from HD where ALL 44k photos are located.  Copied to thumb drive, imported with LR5, copied to desktop in test folder, all photos came in fine, slected all, did global edit to all images, saved all, all images were saved with NO 'read-only' notice.  This is true for a series of folders.
So my test, if it proves anything, is that either LR is messed-up or the HD is messed-up on MacPro tower or something is telling LR to show the 'read-only' notice to pop up.
    Back-ups:
Back-ups were done from HD where all 44K photos reside, to 2 (two) other drives, within MacPro tower.  So ALL 44k photos are essentially the same.  This was a drag-n-drop not using Super Duper or similar byte-verification software.
Any ideas on why ALL 44k images say 'read-only', when viewed in LR5 in MacPro tower but NOT in laptop?  HD is 5 years old...could this be the weak link?
Also, considering to wipe the complete system drive (not HD where photos reside) and re-load everything from scratch to begin anew.  My concern is will this help and then, will wiping all drives and re-loading all images, then re-loading LR5 catalog will solve this.  I am resigned to a week of doing this if it works as right now, I am at a stand still and cannot go forward or backward.
    Thanks
    Sergio

Ok, before we square off on the definition of metadata.  I was saving work done in the develop module, as in developing the photo to my taste.  Once I am done with the work, I either select the one image or all images in a folder and save the work.  If the saving action is indeed called metadata (that is written to the xmp sidecar file) so be it.  All I care about is that the sidecar file hangs onto the work I just did.  Thus if a catalog is corrupted, I can re-load a recent back-up (done every time LR exits) and not have to do the work again.  I also want to make sure my photos can be used even if LR dies, fades away into obscurity or no longer works.  I do not want my photos to be 'prisoners' of Adobe LR or any other software.  That is why I tested the photos outside of LR, by opening them in PS and see if my settings stayed as I had them before.  If LR automatically saves the work to the catalog, great, no worries.
Now, onto the issue at hand.
Why do I get 'read-only' when I try to save work to a photo or a bunch of photos within a folder?
Where do I go to get "permission to write to a folder', whether using LR or any other software?
    thanks

  • How to Convert 44.1 to 48k in the timeline

Working on FCP 5 I imported a couple of music cues iat 44.1. Is there a quick and easy way to convert these tracks to 48K without leaving the project? Thanks

IN FCP? Only way is to render. Best to go outside FCP...
#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
Shane's Stock Answer #5: Importing music from CD or iTunes
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences, click on ADVANCED and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
    AIFF
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well. As long as this is chosen as your import option, when you select a clip and click on the ADVANCED menu, CONVERT TO AIFF will be an option.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • Why does 44k and 88k look different?

    hi,
ive been using some 88k files for high qual recording, now i want all my files at 44k, so i convert them all, but looking the wave overview the 'level' appears to have dropped to nearly 50% of what it was for each file.
is this just a visual artefact of the way logic shows sample rates, it doesnt sound any quieter.

although the sounds are identical in level shown in any level meter i have.....they 'look' different on screen.
the 88k>44k convert is at the top compared to the original 88k file below it.....this  seems to be a naormal artefact as this often happens when i use pitch time machine to change some samples' speeds......

  • Converting Video from 44.1K to 48K

    Hello,
I'm trying to convert a video file from 44.1K to 48K for the audio track. I tried using the "Export" feature, which worked fine in regards to the audio stream itself, but the new movie (which was already compressed to begin with) now looks horrible.
What is the easiest way to simply change the audio track -- Without touching the video part? Thanks!
    Jerome

Open the file in QuickTime Player. Export > Sound to AIFF. Use the Options button to access the 48k setting. Save the file.
Press command and J keys to access QT's Properties window. Click the audio track. click Delete at top left.
Open your newly converted 48k audio. Press command and A (select all). Bring your movie to the front. Choose Edit > Add to Movie from the menu bar. Save the new version of your movie.
    Done.

  • ATV2 upsamples 44.1K CD to 48K

From ATV2 optical audio output my DAC lights up 48K when I'm streaming my ripped CDs (lossless) which are all 44.1K. The Airport Express previously in the exact position streamed at 44.1K. with the corresponding light lit.
I wrote one of the designers who I know at the manufacturer (Bryston) and here is his reply:
"""I would prefer not to have the bitstream converted from 44K1 to 48K, as this
is not an even multiplication, but there may be no choice in the matter, unless you can force the Apple TV to output 44K1. I don't know that this conversion will cause artifacts for sure, but the possibility is there."""
The DAC itself has an optional upsample button that doubles the input resolution.
Any audiophiles or audio technicians care to weigh in on this? What artifacts would be introduced by upsampling twice? Is the original signal being compromised by being changed initially?
I am speaking purely audio… from iTunes to ATV to my stereo. No TV involved.

I am also uncomfortable with this upsampling.
I don't have an atv2 yet but this will result in interpolation of virtually every sample after the 1st, so you won't hear the proper lossless bitstream at all.
Many people may not care or hear a difference but that's not the point, it should at least be able to output 44.1kHz material as is, compressed source or not.

  • How to make EVERY new project open with 48k SAMPLE RATE?

Is there a way to set 48k as my sample rate default setting for all new projects I create or do I have to set it manually on a per project basis?
    Thanks!

Yes, good call! Anything to make life easier. This is why I'm moving towards doing all my projects in 48k. Since it's the standard for working with video,I figure why not just move all my projects up to it so I don't ever have to think about it again

  • MOVIE SCORING: 44.1K -- 48K conversion of audio changes placement of...

Recorded mixes and stems for 3 film cues within Logic and then popped the tracks at the head and tail to match up with the timecode burn of picture. I get really really picky about where my pops are placed and both head and tail pop are tight with picture to within 1 bit. GREAT!
These 44.1 files were then xferred to another system running Digital Performer for sample rate conversion to 48K (file transfer to DP via OMF). DP doesn't let you see timecode bits (or maybe the guy who was running the system didn't know how to display them), so I thought it best to verify the sync of the new 48K files back on my system (files xferred back to Logic via OMF).
I aligned the head pops of these file to be exactly on the money with the picture's timecode burn (+/- 1 bit tolerance) and then looked at how the tail pops lined up. Sure enough I found a small problem: the tail pops were positioned 12 bits early! I know that's not much -- just a little more than 1/10th of a frame or so, but still I'd like to understand why there's this discrepancy.
    Any thoughts?

    X-man,
Maybe you're right, that the math is slightly different, and if so I'd like to understand why.
    Amoli,
To clarify, the reason we processed the 44.1 files in DP was to get that all underway while I continued to work in Logic on other things. When I re-imported the newly converted 48K files into my Logic session, of course I changed the sample rate of the session and lined my 2-pop (head pop) up with picture. It was at this time that I noticed that the tail pop was off by a fraction.
There was no pitch change whatsoever. I would have heard that in a millisecond. The only artifact is this slight discrepancy between the positions of the tail pops between my 44.1 session and my 48 session against the same exact picture.

  • Converting session/song to 48k from 96k

I am working at home on some tracks that were recorded at 96k in Protools. We consolidated the PT tracks and just imported them into Logic as Waves. for the most part they are working but I did have some issues with songs being damaged and getting all kinds of random error messages that prevented me from even loading that song. It's happened twice so far. This is the first time I've had any problems like this AND it is the first time that i am working at 96k with such large files. What is the simple way to convert the songs and the tracks/files to 48K. Is there a simple way? It's seems like the size of the files may be the culprit. Any other ideas appreciated.
the types of error messages that I have gotten on several of these songs are:
    Warning:Project May be damaged
    Minor Problem In Data
    Score Style Fixed 12
    Error: CSong::CreateSeq-Illegal Block Size
then the song will finally open up and no regions or tracks are in the arrange window at all.
    thanks for your time,
    Jdf

thanks alot. I just followed your instructions on one song. Everything seemed to convert over to 48k just fine. I stayed in the same session/song. I may try starting a new empty template next. It did change all of the files to just the name of the song instead of their individual track names but that is probably because of how I "saved" them.
I'm sure I can get the tracks to a new empty template but what is the easiest or correct way to import a number of tracks into a empty project like you described? As you can see I am more of a songwriter/musician than a Mac operator! thanks again,
    jdf
